What do you think? Is this battery a fake / counterfeit or is it real / genuine?
Confirmed fake. Check the comments.
Comparing the battery bought online with a EN-EL15 battery that is genuine.
To be sure, buy only from well known shops and distributors.

There are some differences in the aspect of the two batteries when compared side by side.
We will use both batteries and come back later with information on the new battery. Especially to see how it compares to the old EN-EL15.
When you have 2 or more batteries for your camera, you can re-charge one battery while using the second battery.
Like this you will not have to wait for the camera battery to re-charge. You always have a charged battery ready to go.
Shown on the Nikon D810 camera.
Shown batteries:
EN-EL15 Genuine
Type: Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
Rated capacity: 7.0V, 1.9 Ah
Code: Li-ion20
EN-EL15a, new battery:
Type: Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
Rated capacity: 7.0 V, 1900 mAh
Code: Li-ion20
The EN-EL-15a can be recharged with the standard battery charger that came with the camera and was made to recharge the EN-EL15 battery.
The D810 battery charger MH-25a charges both batteries perfectly.

Well, thanks for posting it. Some time ago, I bought on eBay two "original" batteries exactly like that (in the box, with manual, holographic sticker, etc). They are very similar to the original I own and I didn't notice any physical difference between them, so, I really thought I had purchased two original Nikon batteries at a cheaper price. However, after using them for no more than six months, both batteries started discharging quickly - while my original one, does not even discharge an iota after using it for several hours. In a nutshell, I had to dispose of them because them did not last more than 20 min whether recording a video or taking pictures. So, I have learnt a lesson: never buy anything like that from China anymore. Chineses are expert in faking any product, even when them affirm it is "original".
I'm editing this text to add one more information: I realised that original Nikon batteries do not have that letters/numbers you showed up at 01:27. My fake ones have that similar codes.
Yeah those markings are strange.
Maybe a reject from the original factory.
Have no idea.
Was lucky with mine. I can't tell any difference in performance between them. I use the camera for some videos on this channel so swapping them all the time.
In general its best to buy from a known good source.
@@IONHowTo , I have just found out another issue on those counterfeit batteries: on the original battery the hologram turns out green when we see it on a flat/horizontal position; on the fake ones it does not occur. As you have mentioned, it might be 'rejected items from the original factory' and they put a fake holographic sticker on it and sell on eBay and other sorts of online markets. Good luck! Cheers!
@@jbfalcon6584 checked it now, you're right! Original is deep green and the fake is yellow-ish with a bit of green. Original is a lot greener under some angles.
@@IONHowTo , thanks for replying, mate. Perhaps you could make another video explaining it. For sure, you're going to help several persons with those findings. Greetings from Brasil. Cheers!
@@jbfalcon6584 will see about video, comments are here 😅
I have a genuine EN EL-15a battery that I got with my D7500 camera. The sticker on the back of the battery looks exactly like the one you have, down to every detail. The only difference that I can see is on the top of the battery. The text on the top of mine is more distinct, like on your black one. Also the +/- signs are more distinct.
I looked at a genuine one at the camera shop and the bin details I mentioned match your old battery, not the new one. I believe your new one is a fake, like almost all I see for sale on EBay and Gumtree. They claim to be genuine but they get the bin details wrong. They are not likely dangerous to use but won't perform as well. They put the Nikon sticker on and produce a fake box rather than legitimately sell them as third party batteries because if they pretend they're Nikon they can get a little more for them. I would be far more concerned about your card. I suggest try loading it up with some photos and video and see if once it gets about half full if it starts rewriting over files.
The battery is a fake :/ I've changed the title and description confirming it's fake.
Can't send it back now so I'll just use it and maybe get another original battery.
Thanks for making this clear :)
The memory card is ok.
I've copied files on it (full) and copied off the card. Speed is ok, files are ok. Writing file to both card slots, one can fail.
Just video files could be lost but we can recreate any video made and files are transferred to the computer during the same day.
Dragos Ion ok.... sounds like the card is real. But personally I would only buy cards from a shop, not online, they are too important to take risks with. You might find the battery at some point in time starts losing its charge rapidly so you might be out somewhere thinking you have plenty of charge but then it's flat, so best to keep your old battery with you as well.
Yeah, these batteries will always go together.
Main reason to get this second battery was, to be able to continue when the other one is depleted and while charging one, we use the other.
Is not fake is just a replacement made by OS ELECT., Adorama sells them ,they tell you is not original.
I understand 15a is a higher capacity battery than thec15 I have for d800
I got all my Nikon gear on EBay but I would not buy extra batteries or filters that way, too many fakes. I only buy those things that are mostly faked from the camera store.
You’re right. I feel lucky that it works and it didn’t fry our camera. 😅 Got a Sandisk card on ebay and it’s real. Retail sealed package, fast, size is real.
But this battery, I don’t know...
Thumbs up if you liked the way he says "But-tary" :D
What's your opinion after 4 months? :)
I’ll make a quick video about how to tell if it’s real these days.
It’s good!
I did some research and looking at you new battery I can see something that would tell me it's a fake. If you look at the dot inside the bin wheel you will see it is different to your old battery. The old battery the black line around the dot is not as large, and the dot itself is larger. I have checked all 3 of my EN-EL15 batteries and the wheel looks like your old one, and I have looked at close up images of genuine EN-EL15a batteries and they also look like your old battery. It's a very small indicator but the dot in the bin wheel of your new battery tells me it's a fake.
Also look at the rectangle box on top of the bin, it sticks up higher on the fake.
LAZY DOG yeah the bin design does look different. 🤔
Edit: I’m 99% sure it’s a fake now.
Your comment is spot on, thanks!
So no camera batteries from eBay! 😕
Dragos Ion I have to go to my camera shop in a few days to pick up something. While I'm there I will look at the EN-EL15a battery to confirm the bin details. I'm sure Nikon have not changed it. The wheel dot and rectangle on bin lid look incorrect on the fakes. Sometimes they get the wheel dot correct but the rectangle on top is incorrect. They seem to get at least one of these things incorrect. I will let you know after I go to the camera shop.
Heeeey! :)
👻
Looks fake, but who knows if this pack is made for the asian market....
It might be but from what i've seen they make them different depending on where they're meant to be sold.
Will see if it performs the same as the confirmed original.
Dragos Ion so the pure asian photographers get the shit?
if it’s real, it would work the same as the other ones 😅
