      Hi, Jane! No problem. Glad I could help out! I think there’s a little saying like the queen wears her crown on the outside….meaning the lighter color (white) variegation is on the outside along the edges of the leaf while the princess variegation is on the inside. Both are just stunning to me 💚.

    This was a nice video. I loved seeing all the Hoyas! I just bought a Caudata Sumatra 6” cutting and I’m a nervous wreck I’ll kill it. The directions were to either root in water or in a pot of equal amounts of perlite, coco peat and bark. I chose the pot method because I too worried it might rot in water. I love this plant so much I’ll be so upset if I kill it. I never purchased a cutting before. Just potted plants. Thanks for showing all yours. 💚🌱🌿🪴💚

      Hi, Karen! Thank you so much! Good luck with the new plant! I've used water rooting and I've used sphagnum moss for my cuttings. Water rooted were just in normal house humidity conditions. Sphagnum were in a greenhouse setting. Both did just fine. I'm sure yours will turn out great. I love buying cuttings because I can choose how I want to grow the plant. Plus you get to watch them grow up. Like raising a child from birth :). Have a great day!

    Hi Gena....you are so happy talking about hoya and we are so happy listening about hoya!!! I was happy to see the title of your video....I really love your first pick....Verticulata Var....it is so so pretty, NEED ONE!...and your 2nd one, C Sumatra...I love that pot!! Mine I bought from you is still doing fine....and the Quinquenervia I got from you is still doing great too! I love it as well :) I do not have the pachyclada...sorry I am not spelling right....I would like to own someday....all your hoyas look so lush and big!I have a few hoya in pon because they shipped in pon, but I feel uneasy with it...and 2 hoya I transferred out ended up dying....it was the new mix I used, but it has made me scared now...I hate feeling scared like I do...but they seem to be fine...your Kerrii is so amazing....wow...I do have a smaller one, 5 or 6 leaves...my M Albo Mar....is slow for me...I put it outside on my North porch and it gave me a new leaf, but I would say it is not thriving :)...your var hindu rope looks so stunning in its hanging basket...the mealies like my Australis for some reason....it is easy to treat at least...I have some more that you featured as well....wow wow wow to your Queen....love the new spot she is in! She is so beautiful...nicest one I have ever seen! I Should have took notes while watching...to tell you how many I have that you featured.....this is the 2nd time I have watched! You always have my full attention and just love you and your channel.....glad your Pub splash got some air time! Your string bean is huge and so pretty....well I am all excited and just enjoyed this video so much...look forward to your next one butterfly

      Hi, Tina!!!! I guess I am pretty happy when I get to talk about my plants :). It's been a while since I really talked about Hoya...felt good. Glad to hear your babies are still doing well. I hear you on the uneasy feeling about pon. I feel that way about Leca! I too lost a plant, or almost lost a plant, that was rooted in leca. I tried moving it to soil and it absolutely did NOT like it. I ended up having to reroot the plant (in sphagnum). That was my variegated obovata. I ended up propagating it into two plants. The one plant is the one in this video, the other never took off and died. It was just a 2 leaf cutting so not a huge loss, especially when I still had a healthy portion of it. I won't ever propagate my plants for sale in anything but soil or sphagnum for this reason. Soil and sphagnum moss are just so much easier to transfer out of when/if necessary. WOW...you've watched twice??? THANK YOU!!!!!! I feel honored :). Thanks for being such a great plant friend. LOVE YOU!!!!

    Some species are slower in growing. Generally, some are easy to plant and fast growing. Maybe they're not stressed in the environment. Some keep on blooming. They're much easier to grow than orchids, I think 🤔

    I've been growing hoyas for many years now, and I find that if you have several different kinds of one particular hoya, they will not all grow well. It seems that location, heat, humidity will affect them all differently. With time, I decided to down size the number of hoyas to those that grow well for me and leave the fancier ones alone. I still have 25 varieties and they take
    up a great deal of time. I love them all. In the meantime, take care of your babies and good luck!!

    • @ThePinkTrellis

      Hi, Loreta! That makes total sense. I feel like I’m at the point in my collection of Hoyas that I will no longer be adding any additional varieties. They are definitely time consuming and with the growth I’m getting, I will quickly run out of space for what I currently have. At which point I’ll probably start dwindling down my collection to those that grow the best for me or have really stolen my heart. Thank you!

      Yes, I've always questioned it's validity. I'm going to link the seller I purchased it from on Etsy, and I see at least one person saying it's not fungii. I haven't gone through all of the feedback though so there may be more. Tell me what you think? Even if it's not fungii, which I really don't think it is, it's still pretty. But I am annoyed that I didn't get what I paid for.

    I'm new to hoyas, but I have been into plants for a while now . Hoyas are becoming my one of my favorites move over philodendron ❤ Gena your Hoya plants are gorgeous love watching your videos you are my favorite plant person you give such great information what is your best advice for Hoya the big leaf varieties??

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi April!!! Thank you so much 🥰. I think my biggest advice would be centered on watering. Don’t be afraid to water your Hoya. Once you figure out the watering needs of your plant, you’re golden. Use a moisture meter to help yourself figure that out. And if using a soil mix substrate, make it chunky with orchid bark, charcoal, pumice. Well draining is key. My next best advice is to give the highest indirect light you possibly can. Not always possible, but the more light, the more growth.
      This is actually a tough question for me because I feel like there is so much that goes into having success with these plants, including your dedication to them.
      They are sooo much fun, and you’ll have failures. I certainly have!!!! But each failure is a learning experience and it helps you grow as a plant caregiver 😊.
      Thanks again!!!! 💕💕💕

      @@aprilfreeman8554 I used to like to put my cuttings in sphagnum moss, but now that I have a grow tent I just plant them directly into soil. That only really works well if you have an extra moist environment/high humidity, warm temps, and bright lighting. I wouldn't try that in normal room conditions. There are a few ways to root them, you can even do cuttings in a glass of water. If you can give high humidity, warm temps, and bright light, that's the ideal but it's not the only way to root cuttings. It just goes faster in that sort of environment. When I first started with cuttings it was sphagnum moss and then placed in a dome covered tray to keep the humidity in. That worked very well for me. Thank you!!!! Happy Thursday to you :).

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Anna! Thank you so much. I think this is the time of year the bugs really start coming out of the woodwork (yikes). Seriously, you think your plants are completely bug free and then out of no where they show up!!!!! Sorry about your thrips :(. I always try to go the "natural" route with no chemicals but I'm at the point now that I'm going for the more powerful stuff. I'll only spray outside though so no harsh treatments through the winter season. I just don't like using the harsh stuff...only as a last resort. Just picked up some Captain Jack's "Deadbug Brew" from Ace Hardware yesterday. At least this stuff seems to be more gentle???? It says it's for organic gardening. I have some spider mites that just refuse to go away and I'm hoping this will do them in. Yup! Just part of having plants.

      @@ThePinkTrellis Exactly!! Plants can be doing amazing and then next watering we are like what happened??!! Plants are expensive now.. Our Costa Farms in Canada are 30$ and small 4" pots are 7$ so it gets expensive to keep losing plants due to bugs. I also use insecticidal soap now which seems to work better so far! It sure keeps us busy 😄🌿

    Absolutely Beautiful Hoyas 🙌🙏🏼💚 do you water propergate and/or propergate in moss when are rerooting your Hoyas? Does it take a long time to reroot before you put in pon?

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  2 роки тому

      Hi! Thank you!!!! So for plants I’m rerooting I almost always water propagate. Definitely water if I’m going to be transferring to my homemade Pon. The Macrophylla I rerooted in sphagnum and then transferred to soil. So basically if I’m planning to transfer to soil I’ll use sphagnum moss, if it’s going to pon I’ll use water. Water rerooting time is faster than sphagnum moss in my experience. I can’t really give exactly how many days because I usually procrastinate when it comes to repotting 😊. The rerooting process is fairly quick in my experience. Maybe a month? I’ll have to pay more attention to timelines in the future.

    Hello. I’m from the Philippines. Can you help me? What is the best potting medium to use for my hoyas? Yours are soooo pretty and very healthy. Thank you 😊

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  2 роки тому

      Hi! I think there are a few great choices for potting medium. What I have experience with is a chunky soil (homemade), pon (also homemade) and sphagnum moss. All three work equally well for me with my Hoyas. And I can’t recommend one over the other. I do have a video showing my chunky soil mix recipe if you want to try duplicating that. I think any of those mediums can work great but the most important part to having beautiful plants is dedication. Don’t miss waterings. Remember to fertilize during the growing season. Look at your plants often so you can spot pests before they get out of control. Researching the plants needs so you can give them optimal living conditions. Things like that. I hope this helps! Thanks 😊.
