Hey Zeos, great video. 8:56 The letter U in a circuit diagram stand for "Unity" which is the position on a potentiometer where there is zero gain, zero attenuation. It's (mathematically speaking) 1:1 which is unity. This is significant, because the circuit is (in my layman's terms) a pass-through circuit where nothing is being electrically done to the signal. In practical terms, it's my starting point for any signal; because I know the signal isn't being affected by the circuit.
BTW, tilting the speaker to the left or right vs upright or upside down has absolutely no affect on timing differences. Phase correlation is a function of time = distance * speed of sound. Whether your tweeter is 3” from your mid/woofer to the north or to the east doesn’t matter as much as the angle of incidence. This is why some prefer the co-axial monitor options. Personally, I can’t tell bugger all when listening on such tiny speakers. Though, when you start working on front of house mixes with speakers spread throughout an auditorium, the difference is much more noticeable and absolutely needs to be time corrected to prevent phase cancellation.
Without watching this video, i for myself can just say that i went with 1500$ to a music store hyped for the Neumann KH120 and end up buying the Eris for 300$ / Pair ! after hearing all different kind of music on them. I was shocked how good they are....so now i will watch your vid...

Been running these monitors with their studio sub for years now,,,, I put the piece of electrical tape over the LED logo. The combo of the Presonus monitors and PreSonus sub (8") rocks hard! It plays a lot louder cleanly than I can stand(a good thing). Want loud and clear? check! Also, if you get the matching subs from the same company the in/out are REA, 1/4 plug, and XLR. You can set the gain, slope as well as cut off the output at 80/100Hz. So if you want to use it with other speakers/amp or other studio monitors you can without a lowpass cut off if needed. for my setup I'm running all XLR cables.
Was weighing between these and the 305Ps. Went with the Eris 5s due to the flatter response as I'm looking for accuracy over a good listening experience. Thanks for this comparison/review!

I really want to see Z review the coaxial horn loaded Sceptre S6 or S8 by Presonus. Been on the fence about getting a pair but can't demo any nearby. They just look so interesting.
I'm in the same boat. I want them, but they're a little too expensive to just buy on impulse. But no stores has them available for demo. It's frustrating haha
I have the Sceptre S6's and I would highly recommend them. I don't have a whole lot of experience with studio monitors so not much to compare them to other than my passives, but from the moment I set them up I was freaking impressed. Play some well mixed tracks and you will be in love. I'm also picky about aesthetics since I don't have a studio, these sit on my desk at home. The S6's are ridiculously big (imagine the 8's are even more ridiculous) but the sound they produce just wins me over, stopped caring about how much space they take up as soon as I heard them. I've bought and sold quite a few speakers but Sceptre's are too damn good to even consider selling. Hope that helps!

probably a dumb question, but do you need an audio interface for these speakers? and if so, which one would you recommend getting? (im a total beginner)
Thanks for this. Was considering buying these speakers for (amateur) homestudio use and to upgrade my current cheapo computer speakers. After this video it seems confirmed that they would be a good choice. However did you say they use 130W? Is that during idle or load? A piece or combined? They will be running pretty much all day and that number seems fairly high, would expect that with class A maybe. Do you find thats typical for powered speakers that size?
To answer my own question, they luckily dont use 130W. They use about 25W for the pair. Adam T5V however uses only 1W per speaker at typical volume. So T5V are definitely the more suitable ones for keeping on 24/7. These are measure values, not theoretical.
so for music mixing, which is better the 305's? or E5's? Im confused right now, next week Im gonna buy speakers for mixing, and Im guaranteed for 305's but hey, Z reviews Eris and changes my mind, help please :D
I got a pair of these for $120 after selling my JBL 305's for $180. Pretty happy. I feel like i upgraded, but I'm about to try my first mix with it this week.
I agree it does get warm in the back and I do turn them off. Astute observation. Mine has the rf signal / cell phone noise issue, too, but they still sound sweet. I hope i get into a building with better power, or buy a good conditioner, etc.
@@prodnoyse The sound is very nice and the controls on the back are great. The rf interference can be annoying when they are next to you on a desk. I got to know them really well though and they are valuable tools for me. Someday after I get a pair of bigger monitors, and then a nice monitor controller, I will try a subwoofer with my E5's. I think it might integrate well and give me an exciting feeling during production.
@@prodnoyse For sure. I have the -2 setting on it right now. It sounds balanced and punchy. With smaller monitors you're going to have to check sub lows on headphones anyway. I think the lows, mids, and highs sound great on these. My best speakers in the past were Adam A7, but I had many other brands of monitors too. These punch above their weight sound wise for me.
Zeos do you think these would sound different when used with an audio-interface? Given that these are powered studio monitors, producers will be connecting those to their audio-interface. According to some producers as well, most audio-interfaces are superior to most commercial dacs/pre-amps. For example, motu 2x2, audient id4, and SSL2 come to mind (maybe even focusrite scarlet, or presonus).
Have had the E5s for a few years now, absolutely love them. Added the Temblor T8 sub a few months ago and it really completes the system. Doesn't go down into those ultra deep subbass frequencies, but it's still surprisingly powerful for the size. Also got the iFi iTube 2 and use its bass boost at +6 to compensate for those lower freqs...sounds incredible.

Is there any hiss from these? I tried a few pairs of JBLs and the hiss was too much for me at a desktop distance. These have been out for a little while. There's an updated version E5 XT which has a tweeter waveguide. They're even the same price right now, although that varies a bit the MSRP is the same. It would be really nice to do a direct comparison.
I wonder if they work with mobile devise ( android ) ?I want set a turntable but I want also listen online music on them something , there is no issue/.problem on that side , don't care wire-it. Thank you .
Yesssssssss more Presonus stuff. These were in the running for me against JBL LSR 305s(Adam T5Vs are double the price of E5s or 305s here). IMHO they have better bass than the JBLs, but since I was planning on adding a subwoofer I ended up with the JBLs. I hope to see more of their range in your testing. I've heard good things about their subwoofers, and I'm super curious about their E66 MTMs.

@@glenis83 I just ordered a pair of Sceptre S8's online, and reading your comment makes me even more excited! I also have two of their Temblor T10 subwoofers, I can't wait!
@@andreashansen5313 Nice! I imagine the S8's are where its at. And with the 2 Temblors that setup is going to be insane. One day when I have a studio it will be setup like that.... one day. :p
@@glenis83 Patience is key - save up money and build your system step by step. If you want it badly enough, you can do it :)
And if you want, I can send you a picture, maybe even a sound demo of my setup when the S8's arrive :P
I happened to run into a pair of presonus eris 8 xt for 300 at a music store and bought them immediately i am more than satisfied.
probably a dumb question, but do you need an audio interface for these speakers? and if so, which one would you recommend getting? (im a total beginner)
A Focusrite Scarlett Solo is good quality and not too pricey in my opinion.
Hey Zeos, what is your favorite set of powered monitors?
so for music mixing, which is better the 305's? or E5's? Im confused right now, next week Im gonna buy speakers for mixing, and Im guaranteed for 305's but hey, Z reviews Eris and changes my mind, help please :D
You can cover the blue lights with black electrical tape. So not sure why it would be a factor for anyone interested in buying these speakers.
Hey! [Z reviews] I would like to buy studio monitors for mixing. Should i buy Mackie 524/624 or Presonus?
Search for eris e5 on here. There are comparison videos.
Where's the link for another wallpaper, you know, the horizontal one? Asking for a friend.
I hope i get into a building with better power, or buy a good conditioner, etc.
did u end up loving you eris e5’s?
@@prodnoyse The sound is very nice and the controls on the back are great. The rf interference can be annoying when they are next to you on a desk. I got to know them really well though and they are valuable tools for me.
Someday after I get a pair of bigger monitors, and then a nice monitor controller, I will try a subwoofer with my E5's. I think it might integrate well and give me an exciting feeling during production.
@@TheBeeOBee do you feel the bass is sufficient enough without a sub?
@@prodnoyse For sure. I have the -2 setting on it right now. It sounds balanced and punchy.
With smaller monitors you're going to have to check sub lows on headphones anyway.
I think the lows, mids, and highs sound great on these.
My best speakers in the past were Adam A7, but I had many other brands of monitors too. These punch above their weight sound wise for me.
Have you tried the new E5's with the EBM waveguides on the tweeters?
I have the e8's always thought it was weird that the sound, sounded like it was coming from behind my computer screen.
Fernando Moreno I’m getting the e5s soon because I’m going to upgrade from the e3.5s👍
5:05 Sparks - Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth ! 👌
PreSonus Eris E3 - are these also recommended?
Hi i'm a new on music production. I saw a lot of reviews for pair monitors. If you have to choose beteewn JBL LSR 305, Presonuns e5Xt, Mackie Mr524, and JBL 305Mkii. wich you choose? and can you give me your order of these 1.2.3.4?? Thanks. You have a new suscriber.
can you please tell me what speaker stands you’re using? need some asap and really considering the eris e5’s. did not like my adam a5x’s because of the super piercy high end. do you think i’d be happy with these? i need front ported speakers and non metal tweeters. do you recommend these over any other ones? i’m definitely working on mixed and making my own music.
and do you recommend to turn them upside down instead of keeping them regularly upright?
whats your pick for a sub $400 powered monitor with bluetooth? I already have a hifi setup in another room but im looking for something in my work space that I can use as desktop speakers/monitors for occasional mixing. The Kanto YU6s? these? audioegine? edifire? Thanks
Running here the cheaper Eris 4.5 after some testing... Also pretty awesome. The smaller 3.5 are also great (4.5 had more punch i needed)
i still like my E8's, however my Sceptre S8's are on a whole different level
of course when I go looking into this shit again I find you here haha
Greetings from Finland! I have been watching your videos for about two months now. You are super funny (and pro) and make me smile in this shitty world! Just four days ago I bought this Eris E5's with 10" sub (both used under 1 year) for 160€. I tested Adam T7V for 2 weeks and these are so must better to my setup and room size and sub gives (with a very low volume) hint of kick and warmness to these. This is honey to my ears...btw... What is that vertical monitor? Your setup is so cool!
Is there annoying hum?
Damn Dude that Head cam would make a Sailor Sea Sick!!! Very Good review though!!
Anyone know if it is possible to connect these monitors to a 3.5 output?
I bought the E5s and my dumb ass thought it would be a good idea to get xlr to 3.5 adapter please don’t do that all you get is static shit and not that great stereo imaging get an audio interface the PreSonus ione is the interface I have it’s pretty good.
Can you tell me what monitor you use?
These vs LSR305s??
Can you review Focal Alpha? 😀
I'm pretty sure U = Unity. It just means 0db. I see it on older mixer boards.
hey zeos not sure if you still hav ethe magni3+ and heresy but if you do i saw how you liked one with some headhpoens and one with others but since theyr also marketed as preamps would love to get your opinion on using one of them to preamp the other
I have a pair of Eris E8's and you definitely need to hear them. I would love for you to compare them with the Adam T8v for example.
These sound really nice. I might upgrade to these from Behringer MS16's.
Well in my opinion in the shop the tannoy gold concentric driver series 5" was a better speaker I'm surprising you didn't go for that. The 7 or 8 you can get away without a subwoofer. Why did you take the rebel amp video down
Thank you! This review helped me a lot :)
so it's better to have lf cutoff, + a sub. than a sub with hf cutoff + full range speakers?
I'm not into mixing or producing any type of music, but I LOVE THEM.
am planing to buy them but does i need that controler or amp or whatever it is?
look at the eris e66 or e44, nobody reviews them
really interesting speakers tho
Exactly my point! Mtm design. I'm yet to come to across anyone not happy with any Eris line up.
How do these compare to the emotivas
Is there any hiss from these? I tried a few pairs of JBLs and the hiss was too much for me at a desktop distance.
These have been out for a little while. There's an updated version E5 XT which has a tweeter waveguide. They're even the same price right now, although that varies a bit the MSRP is the same. It would be really nice to do a direct comparison.
Yeah theres some hiss. I think almost all monitors in this pricerange (and a bit more) do
I wonder if they work with mobile devise ( android ) ?I want set a turntable but I want also listen online music on them something , there is no issue/.problem on that side , don't care wire-it. Thank you .
Just bought E5 XTs for mixing. Curious how they stack up to these as they have a waveguide on the tweeter.
Can you review some of the last or current generation Focal speakers? Like Focal Chorus 706 (last gen) or the current gen? Thanks!
Used to cost $400 a pair 2 years back. I've owned it for 5 years. Good listening speakers.
200€ for a pair now.
the best way to use w audio interface its monitoring speaker not hi fi stuff
4:00 dude tf were you watching on the tv
These or Neumann KH80/120?
Yesssssssss more Presonus stuff. These were in the running for me against JBL LSR 305s(Adam T5Vs are double the price of E5s or 305s here). IMHO they have better bass than the JBLs, but since I was planning on adding a subwoofer I ended up with the JBLs. I hope to see more of their range in your testing. I've heard good things about their subwoofers, and I'm super curious about their E66 MTMs.
I would highly recommend the JBL sub, 310s I believe it's called.
got it in 2.1 with my 305s and it's absolutely magical
i think its better to use xlr inputs when you can because they are sounding better in my experience and you can go louder
filip krstevski electrically there is no difference between the XLR and the TRS connections... both balanced. The RCA is, of course, is unbalanced. For short cable runs it doesn’t matter, but for longer cables or when weaving betwixt sources of potential interference, balanced wins for noise rejection.
@@jdillinger2307 they can handle more power and inputs are not as sensitive as rca if you try it you can hear the difference
These or the Mackies? Mr624
The camera moves so fast that it simply cannot be viewed. I can't look at your material how much my head hurts. He would have a lot more reviews if he solved it.
How many reviews more do you think?
i have a pair of these, i run them sideways. not sure i'd trade them for much of anything.
oh, and they do get warm. not hot, just warm.
this or a yam hs5s for a second setup ? i already have the hs8 and they are fuc*&%^ perfect.
Presonus Specter 8 aren't cheap, but I think you will like them. You might be able to get them still. They're a budget studio monitor.
They cost $1500 a pair, they better be good.
there's no link for wallpaper from gaming pc...
It would be interesting to hear your take on the Mackie XR824
Can someone who owns these speakers tell me if they sound good "on the side". Like here they are on their head, I would place them on their side, but sound image concerns me.
Hey do u anyone know a good replacement power unit for the liquid spark. Thanks n advance
Speaker wall 2020??
Tascam pm0.5d good?
Hi, can you try Kef LSX? you have already heard them, I should take them to use PC speakers but I hate monitors because they are not very musical and too analytical, in short, a listening that tires
Hi Z,can you review Takstar MT5 powered monitor??..its a 1st generation powered monitor from takstar..
well I feel like a nut sack... I've always pronounced it Pre - Sow - Nus .
Keep saying it like that. I could very well be wrong
U = "Unity Gain" (+/- 0 Decibels).
Gonna do the E8s too?
Upside down?
This or kanto yu6??
5:42 _"Mr. Robot"_ is incorrect - This is the *Gone Girl* soundtrack
hey zeos, love the review. Was watching a different review from another guy and he was saying that there was an annoying buzz in the tweeter when no audio was playing (but the speakers were left on). Just wondered if you experienced this at all?
Taylor Best Hi, I have a pair of these and they don’t, instead, when I plug-in a fucked-up pc charger who makes a lot of noise through every audio device I have, these don’t. Hope this was helpful
Bellamoli Riccardo hey man, thanks for the response. i have actually picked up a pair of the eris5 XTs. for anyone who’s considering the XTs they have a very subtle buzz when no audio playing but only because they’re next to a powered monitor (screen). when the screen is off there’s no buzz :)
Many of your fans watch ONLY to see your speaker reviews.
Can you do the presonus e8 xt please?
You need to review the PSB P5's already upside down for you! And sound very nice :)
