I've just finished my bench press session and it felt completely different from the very first time: no usual wrist pain, easier to breathe and faster recovery between sets. You rather feel explosive than dull, fatigued, sore and stiff. Totalled around 16 reps and finished with 96 kg x 8, doing deadlifts along the way. Added some kettlebell snatches and push ups - not tired at all
What are your instructions to the person handing out the bar at meets on the bench press? - I see some lifters get involved in a detailed conversation and others that just count 3-2-1 and take it. As a 3-2-1 merchant, I'm sure i could get more consistent handouts if I knew what to ask for.
If you don’t know the person. I feel like the more details the better. My words are “ready” then I take a big breath, “up”. Out on “up”. Then I will show them where I want them to bring the bar out to
OK, but why? Stretch reflex is neuro thing, your body has built-in functions to deal specific situations and will be triggered when your body detects certain signals, this particular reflex helps you to push the obstacle away when it's crushing you with gravity, and that's exactly what bench press is. It's the most "natural" thing to do, and while utilizing the stretch reflex, your main driver muscles will have way higher efficiency being recuited, extra balancing muscles will work harder to protect your joints and ligaments, and nerves will work harder to for commands being delivered better, if anything, involving stretch reflex in a lifting move would drop the injury rate, it's just not gonna be totally safe, bench is not supposed to be totally safe. If what I said is wrong and you have something helpful please share, I don't care if that's the famous Jen Thompson and you are just a guy on the internet, if you helps me more, I'll listen.

Do you squeeze your glutes the whole time?
I don’t really squeeze my glutes. I drive my hips back towards the bar. The act of trying to extend your legs makes your glutes and quads contract.
