Looks like a fun time; ArkanSTOL this year, perhaps...? Would like to try this myself, should I ever get current again; my choice of plane would likely be a Zenith CH750 STOL...interestingly, they use flaperons and are a tri-gear, but get some pretty impressive numbers for T/O and landing...not quite Steve Henry territory, but...Happy flying for 2024!
Your honesty and good info about your plane it’s awesome brother. I have a buddy he’s got tundra tires on his challenger ll for stol to lake islands and adventures.
A few questions: Do you have enough room on the nose wheel for a larger tundra type tire? And how many feet do you think you would need to clear 100' obstacle and also to drop in over same 100' obstacle and land full stop? My back yard is 1500' deep to the tree line.
@user-ts5wf3jv8i so many factors from the location like the altitude and weather in your area? Do you plan to have a passenger? 1500 is plenty in most cases but if you're heavy with two people or have a larger fuel tank that might be an issue! Yes some people do a bigger front tire I just keep mine stock for now but definitely can be larger
@@TheJonjonj Thanks for the reply. I'm early in my training. I have about 10 hours in Evektor Sport Star. But now really wanting to transition to an affordable STOL (undecided on tail wheel). I'm almost 6'2 280lbs and yes plan on sport license to carry 1 passenger. Live near the Mississippi River in SW MS. We have a camp on the homochitto river with two gravel/sand bars both about 2700' long and 300'-400' wide. Wanting a STOL to fly from my home which is 68 miles away to the camp. And hop from one gravel bar to the next along the river.
so I've got a Challenger ll that's basically the same as yours, open, 503, 150_hrs, already has it's N number. really wanting to stol it as much as possible since i'm redoing thing on it now. going to get a VG kit an try those. bunch of other things floating around in my head. every time I turn around something comes up and life gets in the way. hoping to have it back in the air by June. I had seen a few of your vid months back. I thought, boy you sure like to land going fast. If you happen to do anymore vids like this, if you could include some of that secret info, wind speed, density altitude, etc. it could be helpful. if you get that Levil Aviation BOM you'd be hooked up. seen one on marketplace for $800. I know raising kids comes before toys. anyway, I subbed and will follow the challenger adventure.
Absolutely I will definitely add that info! My next few videos will be in the same realm so I'm glad you pointed that out! Yea those BOM are sick I do plan to get one at some point! Hope you get airborne again soon! What part of the country are you in?
That would be awesome but it would be better with an airplane that has flaps! The flaperons don't give me any help in the challenger! Thanks for watching!
Yea I'm an idiot I aimed the go pro and started it and when I was done I went to upload it to the go pro app and my camera said it required an upload before I could do it so I did the upload! Then it was gone.. on more then one occasion I've had go pros let me down unfortunately.
@@TheJonjonjI have a long wing kit with a 503 I’m about to start on. Will be flying in/out of my backyard, which is 750’ total with 500’ of smooth grass. This video was helpful because I was wondering of 500’ would be enough room.
@oxman1971 it really depends on the trees and other obstacles in my opinion! Do not hesitate on going around that's my advice! If anything is not right add full power and climb don't say I can make it because if you get into enough ground affect you will rum out of room quickly! Where about do you live?
@@TheJonjonjit’s open field on one side and trees on the other end. I’m probably going to take down the trees to give me an open approach from both directions. I’m in eastern N.C.
I really enjoyed your video. Another challenge maybe? Have one of your boys in back seat blow up balloons and see if you can turn complete circle and…. Lol. Idk. Pop it with a pointed nose cone since the prop is in back
Great Video!

Lol I'm not thinking the challenger is Arkanstol worthy 🤣 but it would be fun to go in it!

You should go compete in Nation STOL

At what flap setting did you do those T.O. and landings?
It was neutral with one full spin in the nose down position! Have you seen my flaperon video? I discuss them more on it!
I understand, you never moved the Flap position @@TheJonjonj
I would be interested to know the stall speed difference, with your weight, no flaps and full flaps

How much without flaps?
Can you inclose your cockpit??
Yes most challenger ll have doors it's a kit you can get but I live in Texas! So I don't want them!
Are you clipped or long wing?
Long Wing! I would love to get a clipped wing one day!
