Sakaguchi: we need a party member to die and not be able to be brought back, because this game is going to primarily be about dealing with the premature loss of a loved one -- in honor of my mother who recently died. Nomura: okay, sounds good! (I'm gonna ruin this man's whole career)
Yeah! How dares him to introduce tragedia and loss into media?! All media shuld have corny and cheesy happy ever after endings! Everyone should be happy!
As many people stated in these comments, the company died when they merged with Enix. Wada is a truly disgusting CEO whose only goal was money. The mere fact that there was never a direct sequel prior to this pos taking over the company showed us the contrast and creative genius of Squaresoft and the corporate greed of Square Enix under Wada. Hironobu Sakaguchi WAS Final Fantasy and in my personal opinion it died with his departure.
I'm so glad I can hear someone say that Square died when they merged with Enix. I remember intuitively knowing the golden era was over when that happened. The passion it takes to make the kind of games that are masterpieces is long gone. They can come back, but they must start letting their talent work without the executive interference. Those in their late 20s and 30s know what I'm talking about. And we're jaded from this mediocrity.
It has nothing to do with the merger itself but the BS that led to said merger - namely the dogcrap CEOs by the name of Wada and Matsuda. Sakaguchi was more or less ousted under the guise of "stepping down" and multiple talents within the company (Including Nobuo Uematsu) left under Wada's management. Matsuda succeeded Wada but he's really not that different as CEO. If anything, Enix's getting bogged down by Square at this point.
It is another example of the cultural decay and creep towards historical revisionism. Destroy the spirit of the original to replace it with substandard nostalgia crack. It exists in all retro media. And it's purposeful and directed.
And it's especially insulting when these people change the actual game or piece of art into something subpar because it fits their agenda. This video just proves that Japan isn't immune to this cultural decay and creep either. Although I will say that I very much think Japan is in a better state of mind than western society. But who knows how long that will last.

I agree with literally everything, it’s sad. And realizing that ff has peaked decades ago, and that my favorite, such a legendary series, is never coming back is so sad. It truly hurts
Thank God. Someone who's ACTUALLY SANE! This shit so damn insulting. This remake is painful. I will NEVER stop HATING this remake. I didn't think it was possible for me to hate something so much for so long. Now every time I think about my favorite game of all time i can't help but have the remake pop in there. And every time it does I start hating again. Now it's causing me actual pain thinking about my favorite game. I've mentioned this before, but it really is equivalent to the live-action Netfix adaption of "Death Note". Except filled ads that if be forced to watch. Btw the Death Note is fucking TERRIBLE. The ads would be equivalent to the padding. The only difference is that I love ff7 so damn much while Death Note is just really good anime. I really wish that damn remake didn't exist. I almost wished I wouldn't have played the damn thing. But I still would've hated it. Damn dude...... I just can't understand why they did this. Even from a business perspective I don't understand. They could've done the same damn thing. Just not mess with the story, and take more time to make the padding that doesn't suck ass. The quality dropped off big time when you reach the slums. They could've took another year the fix the textures and change the environment so it's not so damn bland. The customization of items and materia is shitty too. Even the summons are useless. Holy shit Everytime I start talking about this game it turns into a rant because I hate so damn much. Even if it want Final Fantasy 7 I'd still hare just like Kingdom Hearts. They're just bad games and yet it feels like most can't see it. How do people not see that?
I'm impressed that you managed to display so much displeasure without even mentioning how the Yuffie content is seemingly PS5 exclusive, shafting those who bought the the game or even the extra pricey collectors editions on PS4. Maybe they'll release on PS4 too but so far i haven't heard anything. That said, I agree with you for the most part. I don't feel quite the same level of resentment in regards to the compilation and remake(ignoring the issue mentioned earlier). I enjoyed at those entries on some level, but I could always separate them from the base game when I would replay it. REMAKE doesn't really let us do that. I find it easier to think of it as a different game. It is NOT Final Fantasy VII, It's REMAKE. This way, it doesn't bother me as much, and maybe, when it's all done and is playable on something I own, I might play past part 1. Assuming it isn't shit. Also I laughed when you mentioned the thing about Yuffie's shorts being unbuttered as that was something I was sure they'd change and was unironically happy to see was kept intact in the trailer. You got me haha.
Lets not add, that the PS5 is expensive as f, the games that are do for that consoles are even less that for PS4, also thanks to sony, for closing the japanese brand many game syou want, wont be made for PS5, so basicly PS5 is just a waste of money, is sad
What happened to at least 2 parts if 7 remake was ps4.so many people bought a ps4 just to play remake only to have to buy a ps5 for the whole game lol we were played hard body lmao
Modern Nomura FF are a complete corruption compared to the older games that square produced in the 90's. Luckily people have caught on the fact that Nomura should never have been more than a character designer at most.
Square Enix has been making unpolished bland garbage for 20 years now. Their fans developed an acquired taste for that garbage, that’s why you see them defending FF7R and FF16 They actually think FF16 is a serious contender for goty KEKW
the golden age, when squaresoft released a 4 disc ps game with like 100 hours of gameplay and suck your life away, now it's split into paying parts and exclusivity to a console that a third of console owners acquired lol.
A FF7 Remake is LITERALLY the easiest project that could have ever been created. An exact copy of the original PSX game, completely redone graphically, zero additional story elements, with modern QoL adjustments like speed up battles a bit. Add a few little extras, like an option to use an orchestrated soundtrack, or some kind of fun throwback blocky PSX character models. That's it. Winner of best game ever. Best company ever. Easiest.business.decision.ever. An absolute slam dunk w/ the glass backboard shattering into a million pieces. They make billions and their stock is through the roof. But no. Just let Nomura destroy it all.
I wasn't personally opposed to a remake. I was fully expecting a new gameplay style considering JRPGs seem like a harder sell nowadays unless they're ADHD adjacent like, idk, Pokemon or Persona 5. My issue came from those god awful Whisper moments. You wanna expand on the AVALANCHE members? Cool. Wanna show us more SOLDIER dudes? Okay. Stupid as fuck compilation sequel inclusions? Fuck off. It really wasn't that hard to make your game titled "Remake" an actual remake, but whatever. They already lost us
You are absolutely delusional if you believe repackaging FF7 without changes would somehow net them a massive payday. They already made their money off that game 25 years ago. You are seriously not right in the head if you think you can ride your business on that. You would end up fired if you were the director.
This is SOOOO true. After Sakaguchi left, everything has collapsed into boring, anime paste spread all over wheat toast. I haven’t been interested in a FF game since X. Not even a little.
The release of the Yuffie DLC, and its contents, have only proven you even more right than you already were. Without spoiling anything… oh, what the hell; I’m gonna spoil the ever-loving shit out of that terrible DLC: -Four new anime boy characters, including one from Dump of Cerberus -They completely overblow New Anime Boy 1’s backstory in an attempt to make everyone cry a river, and fail miserably at that. They also Aerith Backstab him to try to convince you that this is some deep emotional moment, but fail miserably -If you liked Yuffie in the original, you’ll hate her way overblown anime trope-y antics in this one -The fourth- yes, *fourth* - post-credit scene confirms that they did, in fact, revive Zack, and are hinting at a Return To Aerith/Save Aerith From Death storyline in the same cutscene they show him in In short, everybody knew you were right; they just didn’t want to admit it. I’d imagine the people who still don’t want to admit it will have to find out the hard way by Re:make Part 764. By then, the grandchildren of their grandchildren of their grandchildren will pity them for giving into this cash grab in the first place.
You have no idea how happy it makes me to know other people are as sick of this bullshit as I am Not to mention having the DLC be exclusive to an out of stock console

Well, Sakaguchi did create the series after all and when he left the company, so to did the spirit of FF. The FF7 we got in 97 that more or less revolutionized gaming but story telling media amongst other forms too, was because of Sakaguchi. Without him, FF7 wouldve been something completely different. In interviews he spoke of the conflicts between Nomura, Kitase and Nojima during the brainstorming of what FF7 should be and everyone apparently had outlandishly opposing ideas to Sakaguchi's vision. I would argue most arent aware or interested in these sorts of things sadly. I guess were seeing some of those idea in the Remake. Who knows were it will go, now
Do you have a link to that article? I'd really love to read it. I really dislike the storytelling tropes, styles, and topics Nomura and Nojima keep reusing. And reading what Sakaguchi has to say would really be interesting

Its sadly something what happens every single time when a rich subculture and its arts/products get embraced by mainstreet. Besides the visual updates all its unique caracteristics will be scaled down or completely removed.
I'm late to the party, but I've been stewing on this since Intergrade came out and I saw the god-awful ending. I have no idea if you'll even see this. All I want to say though, is I completely agree with you. 100%. The more I think about the "remake", the more pissed off I get. I even tried replaying the remake again last night, for the nostalgia, but the changes they made, the Whispers, the meta stupidity, the needing to merge Crisis Core and Dirge into the original story, is beyond stupid, and lazy. Nomura is the worst person to happen to Final Fantasy. The guy was given WAY, WAY too much fucking power and say in Final Fantasy, especially 7.
Nomura is not a healthy person both physically and mentally. He still thinks he's this hot shit and sadly no one in square was bold enough to break his delusions of grandeur. How is this mentally stunted manchild fit enough to lead such a big project like final fantasy? And why square making a big deal out of him? What makes him so special from the rest of other more competent guys at square?
It's always sad to see when a company that holds the copyright to a franchise that they do not respect in the same regards as the original creator be the custodians of said franchise. Bethesda and Bioware are Western examples of this phenomenon.
If you’re referring to fallout, yes I think I see what you mean. But their treatment of the series is still magnitudes better than what squeenix has done to final fantasy.
its amazing what they have done. i have no idea how they arrive at decisions. this shows that the vision of the company informs the content exactly. i want to kill Chaos??!!? WTF
I'm surprised and pleased to see more people come out hating on this compilation shit. I got crucified by "nu square" fans when I said the remake was bullshit. I have ALWAYS said enix merge was the point where the developer went straight to hell.
here's the deal. The longer you're a fan of japanese gaming, the longer you become adjusted to punishment. Japanese game devs literally have the worst business minds in the entire tech-based consumer market. Square enix is just another notch in the belt of misery.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. Thank you for your thoughts. I want FF7R to succeed, it's so nice seeing the old characters, just feels like old friends you havent seen in a while, but I'm very worried about the direction.
The soundtrack is the only thing about the project that feels like it was really made with heart, like Hamauzu and the other composers and arrangers actually gave a shit about honoring the legacy of Uematsus work. The rest of it feels like an insult to Sakaguchis design orthodoxy for FF.
Agreed the soundtrack is easily one of the best. My biggest problem with this is that the DLC is probably gonna cost like $30 at least just like KH3: Remind which is ridiculous for something that should of already been in the original release. They are trying to milk ff7 for everything it’s worth now.
The soundtrack was okay. The issue I had was I got sick of hearing some of it constantly. Specifically the regular battle soundtrack and the soundtrack when in the tunnels. Any section that I needed to grind a little, I had to mute the game because I already heard the battle music for the two hours in the chapter. The boss music was what I looked forward to. And the intro, I have always loved that.
Final Fantasy and JRPGs in general have always been heavily anime-influenced. Case in point, Cloud's spiky hair and giant sword... not to mention Sephiroth's edgelord persona. It's not weebification that killed the franchise. It's become a victim of it's popularity and becomes dumber and dumber by trying to appeal to the masses who think turn based combat is boring.
Finally someone understands my issues with square Enix I hate this sequel so much from a writing stand point it’s lazy not not creative what’s so ever. All the new concepts where lazy of you asked me I could of wrote things far more interesting with these ghosts poor execution. The main themes of death, loss, identity and morality have been stripped and turned into a a kingdom hearts fate vs destiny and defyinging bull. There hasn’t been a good ff game since 10. I’m playing ff14 and the story and characters harken back to the good old days of square. A lot of these changes destroy characters in this so called sequel for me this is ff17 with final fantasy 7 characters and butchering or the lore and world. I said this before this game came out sqaure Enix in my opinion are trying to line themselves to be bought out by Disney it all makes sense. Making ff7 a multiverse with spin off games for decades to come. The writing in this game is lazy predictable and insulting why people have been raving how much of a masterpiece this game is especially content creators. This game for me is the biggest scam ever done in gaming. We are remaking ff7 got ya it’s a sequel by the original so you understand now here is the episodic garabage of all of ff7 but on mobile not console I’m so sick of this game
It's because it is made by satanists, the hate that Satan is fated to be defeated by Jesus so they have to make fan fic's where someone breaks away from their fate/destiny but it just won't happen
Thank you for making this video and saying many of the things that we OG fans are feeling but feel we can't as effectively. As an OG, fan, I feel fortunate that I'm old enough to be able to say that I played Final Fantasy 7 in its purest form before all this nonsense It's too bad that it's gone this way. One thing I tell myself for some consolation is that there's only one final fantasy 7 story, and it was made in 1997. There are no others It'll always be there and I can play at any time I like All of this other nonsense is non canon fan fiction, and it's no different than a fan fiction story that you would find online somewhere The real story exists on a disc from the late 90s. At least we still have final fantasy 6 and 9...for now
I agree with you completely Sakaguchi era with square was the time they were trying to make good games. After sakaguchi left square and it became square enix their main focus is now money instead of good games
Square was bound to be bought out at some point. Sakaguchi was a talented calculated gambler. For a long time, all of his gambles paid off, so he kept gambling with Square. When it didn’t work out and his gambling streak ended (in a perfect storm of bad cash flow). What he understood that is really missing from Square Enix, is that to create games that were art; one had to take risks. Almost anything the company released from Ff6 through to 10 was a gamble and usually it worked out, and when it did the payout was huge. He understood that to create important games, you had to let people with big ideas, bring them to life. His focus was on pleasing the driven creators, even when he didn’t agree completely with them. Square enix is now driven to please the investors. Which means pandering to what fans think they want, not what they really want. Great example with Ff12: I’m one of the very few that really disliked 12. I can appreciate why people liked it though. You just have to pretend Penelo and Vaan don’t exist. Why do Penelo and Vaan exist? Because the people with the cash found out that fans disliked strong male leads and wanted more androgynous looking leads. So we ended up with a stupidly written unimportant drop in character as our “lead”. That’s a perfect example of listening to the investors and not the creator and that’s what square enix continues to do. And so long as that method continues, they will never create “games as art” again. Full disclosure though: I loved 90% of the remake and agreed with any decision that didn’t involve trying to completely change the spirit of the original story. In other words, whispers were unnecessary, changing fate is unnecessary. If they want to please investors and fans, add a new game plus to part 2. The first play through adds to the original story without changing the story beats at all. New game plus; fine go save aerith and have Genesis, Zach and Angeal join your party to defeat an incarnation of Cissnei, Weiss and sephiroth in an alternate timeline where they fused together using Hollanders cloning. Have new game plus be where you can completely butcher the spirit of the original story and pander to the masses. Then you can “please” everyone.
Final Fantasy has been shit ever since 7. It was obvious that Sakaguchi was tired and washed up. Square should've died in 2003 rather than dragging the superior company Enix down with it.
The only way that the remake could have done the original justice was if it got a 'R' rating instead of the 'Teen' rating from the E.S.R.B. the original had technical limitations so the violence (example Shinra slaughtering everyone in Corel), gore (example Wedge falling ten stories to his death and becoming a pile meat when he splats on the ground), torture (example all of Hojo's human experiments), sex (example clouds date night with Tifa/Aerith at the gold saucer where they totally bang on the gondala ride or the night before descending int the North Crater to fight Sephiroth when Cloud and Tifa spend the night together, alone, and definitely bang), Prostitution (Example the Honeybee Inn. Those things are all vital for characterisation and world building and it is impossible to do them justice in the remake without making the game rated R, so instead these elements have been cut out of the game: Wedge doesn't splat and anyone that dies does so off camera, instead of the Prostitutes at the Honeybee Inn we get to have a dance battle and I never saw a Shinra Soldier even point a gun at a civilian let alone shoot any of them. In the original you know the Shinra troops were walking the streets and disappearing people that caused problems, making public examples of others (you don't need to kill them all, just shoot one and the rest get the message kid of deal).
@@Shadow-gm9ct Do you mean that the remake had an M rating? I don't think that is what you meant I think you meant that there is no R rating from the ESRB and the remake should be given the M rating by the ESRB, which is the "Mature 17+" rating and I'd agree with that.
I totally agree. The original is much more mature, while also being goofy. The remake tries to appeal to a younger audience and comes of childish and immature. One of many flaws.
@@Theo-pd4ju I replayed the original FF7 and instantly fell in love again. Great soundtrack, memorable characters, compelling storyline. Well crafted and satisfying turn based RPG gameplay.
I hear your frustration, and I understand where it is coming from. I grew up with NES/SNES and Final Fantasy was a bit of an escape for me. I remember when Final Fantasy left Nintendo for Sony and I felt this way lol. I think on the PS1 Era Square had a dream team of storytellers. They also took risks that generation as well. I miss turn based rpgs quite a bit.
Rebirth still blows. Story is ass.. I can't believe people, grown adults who get paid to write and direct, can write and direct a story as poorly as Remake and Rebirth's are. Especially so when basing it off a story as good as the original! Rebirth was serviceable for the first 1/4 of the game then stagnated before dragging it down til the very end. It turns into a massive slog. I have no idea what they are thinking. Holding off on making Cid and Vincent playable so they could give players more of a reason to buy the 3rd episode is also pretty funny. 3rd episode should be called FF7Re***d, because someone would have to be one to buy and expect anything memorable at this point after the last 2. SquareEnix can do graphics, they can do marketing. They tried to push a trash gacha mobile game as the "faithful" remake for 7. I even played that, and finished Midgar in it, it was a terrible game.
Square Enix is definitely a shadow of their former selves, which I've also felt for the last two decades. However, with Square Enix embracing ESG and their "ethics department" I don't really think they're interested in a "coomer" market. If anything, they're playing it extremely safe by toning down anything that could be deemed even slightly offensive in modern times. They're in it for mass appeal to maximize profit and keep their ESG rating high enough to get funding so they don't go under.
Wow. I'm not alone- been playing the ff series from day one (in America anyway) and have completed most of them to 12. And I agree 100% they've destroyed their IP and continue to exploit the name without end. 10 and 12 were the last decent games in the series. 10 gave gave me high hopes for the newer generation of ff... but then they put out x-2 which was a joke! 12 rekindled my love for the series but then I remember when xiii came out... how disappointing that was! what a lousy excuse for a game. The saddest part is: that I eventually used to go out and buy these weak ass games with the hopes and prayers that maybe this time they got it right. 15 almost did it but it just felt wrong. Another thing I can not stomach anymore is the absolute bought and paid for support that reviewers give as a community. RIP FF
For me the series definitely fell off after FF13. I have some hope for FF16 because they have a competent team making it in the FF14 team but we shall see. I do agree though that they’ve but trying to milk FF7 way too much.
As soon as it was announced that FF7 Remake would be directed by Nomura and would be episodic I wrote it off, because I knew it would take over a decade (or more) to complete and would be milked dry before then. Oh what’s this? FF7 Remake Intergrade exclusive to PS5? And look over there! A mobile exclusive FF7 game? Wow…how terrible it feels to be proven right. 😩
Noticing a lot of new people here who are pissed off by this video, so this comment is for those guys: While I now know that a Remake shouldn’t be a full-on copy-paste of the original, I would much prefer if the remake just simply... A. Fixed as many possible story issues and/or plot holes from the original B. Update the dialogue to more modern standards C. And most importantly, fit the entire game into one release (not including moments from the “Compilation”) ...as opposed to using the word “Remake” as proof that Square Enix is, in fact, afraid of that god-forsaken word: “Reboot.” I would be able to excuse side story DLC if they were to somehow do the FF7 Remake correctly, but... well, let’s be honest: they already set it on fire and are refusing to put it out. Even if you could somehow understand what weird new shit Nomura put in the game, that doesn’t make it any less out-of-place. But of course, unexpected always equals good, even if it doesn’t. If future parts of the Remake “franchise” are going in Nomura’s direction, you can bet your ass that we’re gonna fight multiple versions of Sephiroth in the end, and Yen Sid from Kingdom Hearts will magically jump in to save the day. If not, that’s too bad, because there’s now no point in Nomura’s fever dream in the first one. Simply put, they’ve really done the unthinkable and put themselves in a literal lose-lose situation. Also: “But Nomura didn’t write it!” Yes, he did. But even if he didn’t, he’s responsible for everything that goes into/doesn’t go into the game, because he’s the director. Surprise! Even if Ptolemy’s video goes over the top, I can assure you he is right for the most part- especially in the sense that FF7 is about to be milked to death.
@@gonhunter3994 it clearly not a reboot, if it's a reboot how does Aerith and Sepiroth have their memories of the original game? Geez you people don't pay attention

Hilariously enough, I know of waifu wank simulators with competent writing. Some of the Senran Kagura games actually have competent character writing that emphasizes concepts of heroism and responsibility. I'm referring primarily to the two DS games. I'm just saying that there are these mostly garbage fanservice games that still manage to have original stories with important moral concepts woven into them, along with some occasionally good character writing. FF7 Remake may even hit a slightly lower tier of lowest common denominator entertainment. Nostalgia and boobs are some of the absolute cheapest ways to try and sell things to people.
You say that but after playing Crisis Core Reunion, I say that was a passion project, and yes I played it on PSP and am amazed with all the care they put on this remaster/remake, so while I m not expecting them to ever pull out something like FF VI again, but Square Enix seems to be recovering from some of their past mistakes. Also I like what they are doing with FF VII remake, but since I never finished the OG, I m currently finishing that one, before I ever get into the Remake and incoming Rebirth. The problem when companies get bigger and bigger is that sometimes creativity is crushed and finances and economical decisions came to matter way more, there is no avoiding this, knowing that, I m still pleased with the recent story of SE. Sakaguchi indeed had a very prominient role, but it is not like all the FF games he had a work on where that good, FF V sucked, same for FF III. There is an excuse for III, but not for FF V coming after IV. Thought starting VI, story was again a focus, I honestly still have a lot of FF to play, I do understand your point but then again, same could be said for what happened after Xenoblade 1, which was a game lacking all those anime tropes, then watch what become of Xenoblade 2... as long as the games have strong plots that I can care about, I dont mind the anime tropes/focus. Also FF XVI seems to be appealing more to what you wanted, and I for once couldnt be more excited after the last trailer. And about Sakaguchi again, could you say the projects he done after Square still have that flame and passion you say it is missing from the FF series after his departure? My point being, you cant say things would have been that different if he had stayed.
for people who agrees with this game just wait until they change it so much that moogle eats the comet and saves the world........at this point anything could happen and its scary :/
You're the first one I've ever heard talking about the merger like that. You're saying what I've been saying from the beginning. What I thought would be awesome, merging Squaresoft's epic storytelling with the innovative gameplay of Enix's IPs, ended up being a huge disappointment. Stories stopped being epic and the gameplay design started mimicking what was already out there.
Square died when Hironobu Sakaguchi left the company...but they openly stated after 10 that they were going to milk the franchise .....hence why x-2 was the first sequel.. FF7R feels like they wanted to make another game...but instead of making an original they use the name and the likeness of ff7 to sell their new game..this game shouldve been called ff7 verses

@@skippertheeyechild6621 Criticism is the act of analyzing, evaluating, and expressing judgments or opinions about someone or something. It involves offering feedback or commentary on the perceived strengths, weaknesses, or areas for improvement in a particular person, performance, work of art, idea, or any other entity. Criticism can take various forms, such as constructive criticism aimed at providing helpful insights and suggestions for growth, or more negative and judgmental criticism that focuses on pointing out flaws or shortcomings without offering constructive solutions. Effective criticism is often based on objective observations, informed analysis, and thoughtful consideration of the subject matter. It can be valuable for fostering personal growth, driving improvements, and stimulating discussions and debates. However, the manner in which criticism is delivered is crucial, as it should be respectful, fair, and focused on the matter at hand rather than attacking the person's character. The "Remake" turned out to be nothing more than a high budget fanfic aimed more at the younger gamers who _think_ this is what FFVII is supposed to be, but have probably never played, nor even care much about, the 1997 original.
I've just almost randomly stumbled upon this video while watching relevant to the topic, and I really liked the words author put here, to rephrase them: original FF franchise was about a vision. Now it's mostly only to appeal to anime fans. Good thing that at least FF 16 spared me this teenage horny edgy anime style, where characters are adults in behaviour and actually can die. FF7R... gosh.
Honestly, I love the direction that ff7R is going in right now but I can appreciate your takes on it too. I feel like the Yufie dlc is just about world-building. Like it doesn't look like she'll interact with the original cast at this point so why not just show what she was doing during that time. Also, I think they just showed off deep ground stuff for shock appeal and it won't play a huge role in the future of the game. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. From someone who loved this game, I can appreciate criticism because I think we all just want it to be great. Good video.
“Show don’t tell” We don’t need to know in detail or see what yuffie was doing anymore than we needed to know what Zach was doing in crisis core. The best bits of storytelling is showing just enough in regards to the past and FF7OG did this perfectly. It’s the same reason we don’t need to see a FF10 prequel of braskas pilgrimage, because we already know everything we need to by playing X.
This whole thing reminds me of the situation with Bethesda, after Julian the original father of Elder Scrolls left the series aftet thh 3rd entry has just become dumber and dumber, After they acquired Fallout it too became more simplified, dumber and dumber becoming not a world but an amusement park. Fallout fans had a gasp of air with New Vegas from the original devs but it was right back to stupid with 4. As there is Classic FF fans and Noruma Fans there is Classic Fallout Fans and Bethesda fans.
SquareSoft would take the same approach as SQEX is taking today. I think the blame isn't exclusive to the new era of the company (as of FFX-2, like you said), but to the industry as a whole. Think about the big picture like indirect competitors like The Pokémon Company: 0 Effort cashgrabs.
I still haven't played this remake at all... And I love FF7. I am good with the psx classic. Why would they butcher the story like this... It's ridiculous.... Sorry but Yuffie is an annoying "ninja" thief. She is not your friend at all. Why is she even in the party? Everytime I play FF7 I ignore her.
My god, thank you for existing dude...keep preaching and let the elephant in the room out. Every single thing you mentioned in this video I whole heartedly agree.
Oh man it feels so good to hear this. It's exactly what I think and then some. You know, I'm a big fan of FF8. And I'm kinda glad that Square is not interested in ever touching it again.
I'm a little late to this, and I'm sorry that this is my third reply to this video alone, but Square Enix cannot stop digging their grave through this game. In The Game Awards, they said FF7 Remake is releasing to PC... as an Epic Games Store Exclusive. And to make matters worse, its cost is being bumped up to $70. Yes, the base cost, no deluxe editions, no DLC, whether you bought any of it on Playstation or not. It doesn't help that the PC version is about as bug-free as a Bethesda game, but I guess it's superior because some people figured out how to mod Cloud's gloves off...? As for Part 2, with Nomura finally gone from the Director's chair, replaced my Naoki Hamaguchi, you'd think things would get better down the line. Unfortunately, Naoki Hamaguchi was the one who came up with the idea to make the Compilation of FF7 canon in FF7 Remake, and *he will use Nomura as his main consultant for Parts 2 and beyond.* Plus, he directed that sorry excuse of a DLC, including all the *four* post-credit scenes. Fucking hell, this game and its endless supply of sequels are going to age like the League of Nations. I'm not even rooting for it to improve anymore, I will happily watch it burn to the ground.
The failure of FF Spirits Within ushered in an opportunity for corporate interest to command decision making at Square. The company no longer retains the talent that put them on the map and any talent that resides within is tainted by those left in charge now.
I like how button mashing Devil May Cry fans are like hey it’s still fun. But what they don’t get is if Devil May Cry suddenly becomes a tactics rpg it makes it a whole other game. Obviously fans will be like wtf you took my game from me. The gotcha stuff too needs to go.
I disagree with the "Anime trope" stuff since There are a Lot of Anime that don't use them. Call them Shonen and Echhi tropes and not Anime tropes. Anyway this Remake is awfull
Couldn’t agree more with every word of this (as usual). These were my exact thoughts upon seeing these cringe new trailers. I think the only thing worse are these terrible reaction videos being put out by these idiots like Maximilian Dood and other NPCs with seemingly no standards or taste. You can tell by looking at these people that there is no hope for the future.
Greetings from TBYS post.
Square Enix is now under Blackrock. Look up the company that is a subsidiary of them.
I just need to see 1988 in your name to know you're a guy in his 30s who like me, is also upset with where Square ended up.
They haven’t died because they still make great games, but business wise they make some very questionable decisions
"Square died when they merged with Enix" 100
Talent: "FF7 remake!?"
Executive: " Zack and Aeris romance??"
Talent: " ... plot hole ghosts?"

Hit the nail on the head. FF series actually ended after 10 with the departure of sacaguchi

The release of the Yuffie DLC, and its contents, have only proven you even more right than you already were.
Without spoiling anything… oh, what the hell; I’m gonna spoil the ever-loving shit out of that terrible DLC:
-Four new anime boy characters, including one from Dump of Cerberus
-They completely overblow New Anime Boy 1’s backstory in an attempt to make everyone cry a river, and fail miserably at that. They also Aerith Backstab him to try to convince you that this is some deep emotional moment, but fail miserably
-If you liked Yuffie in the original, you’ll hate her way overblown anime trope-y antics in this one
-The fourth- yes, *fourth* - post-credit scene confirms that they did, in fact, revive Zack, and are hinting at a Return To Aerith/Save Aerith From Death storyline in the same cutscene they show him in
In short, everybody knew you were right; they just didn’t want to admit it. I’d imagine the people who still don’t want to admit it will have to find out the hard way by Re:make Part 764. By then, the grandchildren of their grandchildren of their grandchildren will pity them for giving into this cash grab in the first place.

6:05 - Yep, this pretty much sums up my opinion on modern SquareEnix. Specifically when it comes to Nomura LMAO.
They are trying to milk ff7 for everything it’s worth now.
i disliked it myself
Final Fantasy used to create art and cash came as a result. Now they only think how can we optimize cash using imagery from past popular games.
The Final Fantasy franchise is being milked to death in real time right before our eyes and the mindless sheep are oblivious to it.
You mean FF7, all the other FFs outside of 14 barely get enough love compared to 7.
You clearly don't know what a scam is, and the game is a remake, it's just more literal in the wording if you actually payed attention
As an OG, fan, I feel fortunate that I'm old enough to be able to say that I played Final Fantasy 7 in its purest form before all this nonsense
It's too bad that it's gone this way.
One thing I tell myself for some consolation is that there's only one final fantasy 7 story, and it was made in 1997. There are no others
It'll always be there and I can play at any time I like
All of this other nonsense is non canon fan fiction, and it's no different than a fan fiction story that you would find online somewhere

Great example with Ff12:
I’m one of the very few that really disliked 12.
I don't trust square enix I knew that square is going down hill when they emerge with enix.

I do agree though that they’ve but trying to milk FF7 way too much.
ffx-2 battle system was actually top notch, its just the wierd story that dragged it down
XIV is great too
As soon as it was announced that FF7 Remake would be directed by Nomura and would be episodic I wrote it off, because I knew it would take over a decade (or more) to complete and would be milked dry before then. Oh what’s this? FF7 Remake Intergrade exclusive to PS5? And look over there! A mobile exclusive FF7 game? Wow…how terrible it feels to be proven right. 😩
I'm glad to have found your channel! You speak for the gamer who just wants to game to escape reality, the way it was meant to be.
You can literally do that.....it’s still a video game
Now there's a highly sexualized Tifa figure so its not that hard to figure out its all abt fanservice now.
This aged well.
What the fuck are those dislikes? Are people this delusional?
Delusional? I'll say they are in denial.
100% Agreed with your assessment of SquareEnix as company.
Noticing a lot of new people here who are pissed off by this video, so this comment is for those guys:
While I now know that a Remake shouldn’t be a full-on copy-paste of the original, I would much prefer if the remake just simply...
A. Fixed as many possible story issues and/or plot holes from the original
B. Update the dialogue to more modern standards
C. And most importantly, fit the entire game into one release (not including moments from the “Compilation”)
...as opposed to using the word “Remake” as proof that Square Enix is, in fact, afraid of that god-forsaken word: “Reboot.”
I would be able to excuse side story DLC if they were to somehow do the FF7 Remake correctly, but... well, let’s be honest: they already set it on fire and are refusing to put it out.
It isn't a reboot though...anyone who played n beat the game knows that by now. Remake is the BEST way to describe what the game is narratively
@@zelohendricks51 no it is a reboot
@@gonhunter3994 it clearly not a reboot, if it's a reboot how does Aerith and Sepiroth have their memories of the original game? Geez you people don't pay attention
They put themselves in a lose lose situation? Majority liked the game
this rant was very therapeutic, thanks man
yup, earned my subscription
It really is😏
Remake itself was already a shitty cash grab, but now, Square Enix is having its way with a sloppy fucking mess.
They dont even try to hide it anymore.
How was it a cash grab lmao
@@asdf_asdf948 It’s obvious enough that it requires no explanation.
@@stygames5450 nah. A shitty cash grab is ever crisis, the mobile game they're making to pander to you purist whiners.
@@stygames5450 Oh yeah, a risky reimagining project is more of a cash grab than a lazy 1 to 1 remake that this guy is crying for... they make no sense...
TBYS sent be to you.
I agree with you entirely and the sad part is the game could so easily have been amazing if they had just made it a proper remake.
My point being, you cant say things would have been that different if he had stayed.
for people who agrees with this game just wait until they change it so much that moogle eats the comet and saves the world........at this point anything could happen and its scary :/
lol mickey saved the day through interdimensional travel.
100% right. We have the same oppinion.
I miss sakaguchi man hope he comes back someday the man was full of creativity even if u play his new mobile game fantasian its a masterpiece
The Remake/Rebirth games have been so disrespectful to the OG and the fans
Now I know why FFT and FF9 are so good. Because they were from Square and not Square Enix.
@Orlan Nobuo Uematsu said that FF should have ended once Mr Sakaguchi left Square.
I’ve accidentally wandered into the “more miserable than an alcoholic with an eviction notice” section of UA-cam again.
Anytime you wander here just leave immediately. Trust me, this side of UA-cam is full of blunt and simpleminded haters and nitpickers.
@@DanielKevin-lg2fbIt's criticism.
@@skippertheeyechild6621 That ain't criticism it's simpleminded nitpicks at best. Though I can't blame them, most of these type of people are naturally wired to hate anything regardless of quality except it appeals to their nearly unrealistic expectations. This is why I've come to conclusion that the gaming industry's consumers are the most problematic people ever with several toxic fanatics (like him) and several hatedoms.
@@DanielKevin-lg2fb That's your opinion that his criticisms are nitpicks. It is still criticism.
He only focuses on the NEGATIVE side of games and game developers (mostly the ones he hates) and doesn't give a damn about the positive side (except if it's a game or game developer he personally likes)
It's biased.
FF7R... gosh.
Squaresoft: golden era of jrpgs.
Enix: made Star Ocean 2 that I love.
Squeenix: *groans in pain*
My friend, you are not alone on this. I agree with every word you said.
Good video.

It's just a cash grab that should been in the main game like the KH3 ending dlc.
They need to cancel it.
“Show don’t tell”
We don’t need to know in detail or see what yuffie was doing anymore than we needed to know what Zach was doing in crisis core. The best bits of storytelling is showing just enough in regards to the past and FF7OG did this perfectly. It’s the same reason we don’t need to see a FF10 prequel of braskas pilgrimage, because we already know everything we need to by playing X.
FF7 remake looks great but has no soul. It feel like the writers are a bunch of teenagers. It's cringy and immature.
I agree with everything you said. Yes FFX-2 was a piece of shit, everything they've made since is ass. I feel the exact same as you.
The best Square Enix these days weren't even developed by Square Enix.
Squaresoft>Square Enix
The best Square Enix games are being released on Nintendo Switch (Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default, the new strategy RPG just announced).
What about FFXIV and DQ11 ?
@@Bahamut-bj3bh Those are definitely the exception nowadays. Maybe the Trails of Mana remake as well.

finally another kino video to listen too. I was wondering if you were gonna make a video of this!
Ew don’t call it kino, that’s our word.
This is going to age like fine wine after the remake finishes sh*tting the bed with Part 2.
8:05 "While Gackt plays in the background". BASED.
Sakaguchi directed Spirits Within
Knowbody is talking about how they neutered Clouds personality.
Case in point....Ever Crisis
