We really appreciate all the work that went into this video. You gave the viewer a lot of valuable information that can be found nowhere else. Thank you.
@@selkinshome Fantastic content Scott. I am travelling from New Zealand in June/July of 2023 to ride to Tuk and many of these surrounding roads. Very informative. Cheers.
@selkinshome Thank you for offering information with the viewer in mind rather than selfies on location. Thank you also for not treating the Yukon like it's just that thing on the way to seeing the ugly oil fields of Alaska. (The non oil field parts of Alaska are beautiful, but sadly the massive privately-owned and inaccessible oil fields are the destination, the start or end point of the PanAmerican highway and only access to the Arctic Ocean--if you can call a mandatory there-and-back bus tour "access.") I wish the PanAmerican had the alternate spiritual beginning or ending in Yukon & Northwest Territories--so people wanting to make the "PanAmerican" journey can choose Tuktoyaktuk and support a local indigenous community living in harmony with nature, and beautiful scenery and culture you can explore freely. I just watched a travel vlog from a lovely Texan couple (the adventures of A+K, if I recall correctly) and their experience of Tuktoyaktuk could not have been more different from what I saw in the Alaskan oil fields, which was just soul crushing. In Tuk it was like they'd be wandering around and the deputy mayor of Tuk would grab them to take them to see a pod of Beluga whales (no, autocorrect, I did not mean Belgian waffles...Although that does sound good.) Contrast that with an industrial nightmare, a war on nature, where the oilfield owners barely suffer you to take a strictly regulated bus to the water's edge and back. North America deserves a better choice to cap the PanAmerican journey, and after all, there's a choice at the southern end, a choice between Argentina and Chile, so why not the northern end as well? I've saved this to re watch and take notes, so much good info to chart a course through and around Yukon! Thanks!
Nice video! I spent almost my entire early childhood growing up in a cabin that my dad built off the Alaska Highway at Morley Bay, seven miles south of Teslin. That was back in the 1970s before the highway was paved. We left the Yukon in 1980 when I was 13 years old and I haven't been back since. Many of the roads and towns in the video I experienced via my dad's gold colored,1965 Chevy pick up. Your video took me down memory lane. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, James! If you can track it down, you may enjoy documentaries from the 1960s by Gordon Eastman. Some beautiful images and experiences in the Canadian north from that time.
Great video! We drove the Top of the World Highway from Alaska to Dawson City and the Dempster to Tuk and back in Summer 2023. It was wonderful to relive those drives through your video.
A friend of mine forwarded this video to me. He and his good friend did a lot of motorcycle riding in the same area. He said your video was an excelent example of what you'd see. My other interest was that my father had been stationed in Alaska in the Army. He used to talk so fondly about That part of the world. I feel like I got a taste of it in your video. Thanks so much.
One of the best videos we've seen. Excellent and understandable commentary and beautiful video. Very, very well done. (*there is no ferry service from Haines to Anchorage)
I have always had a fascination with the Yukon. Now 65 yo, I doubt I will see it “with my own eyes”. Your “eyes” helped me get a taste of what I desire. Thank you.
This is THE BEST video of its kind I have EVER seen - for ANY destination - by any video producer. I've seen quite a bit of the Yukon on two trips each of multi weeks duration. And I've also done a fair bit of Yukon travel 'research'. You are incredibly brief and pithy and HIGHLY informative - accurately so from what I've seen. WOW! WOW! You must be an amazing person - no show boating - just the facts with great pictures. Really practical facts! Thanks for your GREAT work. In time I'll go through every one of your videos now that I've seen your work.
@@selkinshome You are very welcome. I've now seen a lot of your other uploads and it seems this video is a distillation. That should not be a surprise. Most beautifully done.
Wow! An accurate description. Thank you so much. You only made one error. 'Enter by one route and leave by the other'. A standard Yukon joke is "I came for a quick visit thirty years ago".
I traveled the Alaska Highway in 1997. Much of the road was not paved. I remember well Watson Lake and Whitehorse. The first time I saw the Northern lights was at a lodge called Iron City. This video brought back wonderful memories of my adventure. Thank you. 😊
Great video, awesome photography and drone footage. Some of these roads are on my bucket list. Thank you for the comprehensive coverage of the roads in the Yukon territory.
This is a great presentation! It brought back memories of my trip on a KTM 640. Now, many years later, I'm ready to go again, but in a Jeep this time. Luxury, with a heater and a fridge! I'm looking forward to the roads I haven't been on before and am pretty excited. Now, off to find more of your videos!
My wife and I were in Chicken in 2018. Very neat place. We panned for gold in the chicken creek. We had dinner in the chicken creek cafe. Guess what was on the menu? CHICKEN!!! It is my favorite place that I've been in Ak. Probably will never get back to Ak. but we have great memories of our trip there. Round trip from southern Michigan was 11,465 miles. We were gone 8 weeks.
My wife and I drove the Cambell Hwy. several years ago.......totally awesome! Tourist center in Watson Lake gave us really good maps and briefs as to what to look for along the way. From Watson Lake to Faro (250 miles.??) we saw no cars or trucks.........none.....zilch except for 3 trucks going the opposite direction. Stop in the middle of the road to take a pic......and the silence......wow.....not a cabin .......nothing in sight.....except for beautiful scenery...not even a jet's con trail in the sky. Thanks for the memories.
That doesn't surprise me. That stretch is the quietest road I've been on in the Yukon; possibly excepting the North Canol. Sounds like you had a great time!
I drove some of these roads last spring/summer. Using Dawson City as a hub I traveled the Dempster and the Top of the World into Alaska for a couple of weeks and then home eventually down the Cassier to Stewart/Hyder and Highway 16 across BC to Casper and south back to US. Two months of bucket list exploring. Thanks for take on beautiful Yukon.
Fantastic video, Scott. I’m trying to do my homework in preparation for one or more trips through BC, and to the Yukon, NWT, with hopes of dropping my kayak into the Arctic Ocean. I say one or more trips, because the first will likely be with my truck (for kayak transport), but doing this on a GS may have to happen as well. Thank you for educating and inspiring us all. I hope you continue to travel and make additional videos, and for me, the more detail, and longer the video... parts 1-10... the better. Thank again! Kind regards,, Andres
Glad you enjoyed it! If you're a big kayaker, there are outfitters who can set you up with multi-day drop-in routes in the Yukon backcountry. Have a great adventure!
Excellent video, great filming and editing, and love your calm narration. I hope to travel the North by truck camper next year, and this info was invaluable.
Wonderful summary. We have driven almost all the roads in Yukon, in various types of vehicles, but have not yet taken the Nahanni Range road or the North Canol road. Yukon and Northwest Territories are amazing places.
Thanks for the kind words, Andy. The North Canol is definitely worth the effort if you can get the right kind of vehicle. A lot of variety of landscape, and dramatic views on the latter half.
I am considering a trip out to Yukon, but with a daily driven sedan. Would you recommend I use a SUV instead or am I OK with using my sedan to explore most of the Yukon?
A very nice and well done video. It is really well spread out but so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your travels and wish you many more safe journeys. Take care and keep the rubber side down . Cheers !
I have lived in Dawson City since 2009, and I found your video amazingly accurate! While I have traveled many of the roads in Yukon, you have been on even more of them than I have. I highly recommend the trip to Keno though. It is a very special place.
Mr Elkins great well put together informative video.. Did a lot of these roads in2004... Great scenery in Kluane area.... stayed over in Dawson did the free ferry and remember seeing wonderful scenery traveling north from there.. the little pit stop of Boundry Alalska I saw on a vid is no longer there... has gas gifts and some cabins I believe. Chicken Alaska had about 27 folks and a three legged dog...drove out to the village of Mayo ..did Haines.. Haines JCT , Skagway ,, saw northern lights in Skagway mid September I believe it was ..had a tremendous cinnamon bun in Johnsons crossing.... this was a great video with great narration.... give you lots of props doing it solo and the drone is a great touch !!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you sir for this valuable information. Haven't been to the Yukon since 1997, we are planning a summer to travel most of Yukon, you provided a wealth of information. Thanks again. Have a great day.
I just love the Yukon and Alaska. We had a blast there in 2017. Drove a 1994 F250 long bed 4x4 pulling a 25 ft 5th wheel. So many nice places to boondock
Thanks great information my wife and I are planning to drive to Alaska 2024 thanks again we live in BC Canada have done 49 States leaving the best for last. Can’t wait to see the most Beautiful place in the world 🙏🇨🇦🇺🇸
Thank you for a great, in-depth video. Tons of information. I am giving serious thought to making a move to Canada, and the Yukon is the place I would like to go. I can't get over the endless miles of untamed beauty. I could spend the rest of my life there, and die a happy man!
Great video Scott, excellent presentation, thanks for posting. A little trivia here: Alaska highway is known by many names one of which is Highway-97. Alaska highway mile-zero is of course in Dawson Creek. However, highway-97 does not start there. It starts in the city of Weed in California, at its intersection with old highway-99 also known as Weed Blvd. At that intersection is a totem pole that marks the start of the Alaska Highway!
Thanks for the bit of trivia! I checked out a map and it looks like I've traveled about 2/3 of that route from Weed to Dawson Creek. But now, of course, I want to ride it all in one go!
What an awesome video. Spent about a month exploring the Yukon and Alaska this past month and yearn to return. Passed the Dempster while going north on the Klondike and will definitely venture up her on my next trip. Thanks.
Sure a nice video to watch! I live here and have traveled all the roads for work or fun. Like you I never get tired of the country. Thanks and save travels in the future.
Agreed! The Yukon enters your psych and keeps calling one back. Planning my 5th trip in 45 years for 2025....Canol is figuring into the route for sure as is the Top of the World....To date, the Cassier and route to Stewart and Hyder remain a favorite as does the track back in the early 80's when the Alcan included 1000 miles of gravel. The Best!!!! The people, better.

Did it this summer. A transcendent experience.
Kluane was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Very interesting. Drove all of the Yukon roads in 1992, traveled the whole of the ALCAN highway. Alone and camping in a tent. Best trip of my life.

Very informative.
