Teslin has a few awesome museums. The wildlife displays beside the motel are world class and free. Check it out
Beautiful. Late summer or early autumn in Canada? What kind of drone are you using?
Late August and early September is the best time for changing colors (and fewer bugs) in the Yukon. I used a Mavic Air (first gen) for the bits in this video.
This video is every bit as good as your "Traveler's Guide: Yukon Roads and Towns" video. Shame it hasn't gotten the same quantity of views. I hope you will continue to publish videos like this from time to time. Quality 'Road Trip' ideas are always appreciated. Best regards Scott, and TWO thumbs up! 👍👍
Thanks for the supportive note! I'm slowly progressing on a similar travel guide for northern British Columbia. Hopefully that will be posted before spring. Best wishes and happy travels!
Well, I wasn't thinking about a road trip to Far West Texas . . . . . until I watched this video. Now I am planning one! Thanks for posting.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this.
Superb. Thanks!
In 2021, there were 9,860 actual incidents of Criminal Code violations (excluding traffic) in Yukon. Of this total: • 22.1% were violent Criminal Code violations (2,175 incidents) compared to 24.6% nationally; • 44.9% were property crimes (4,424) compared to 56.6% nationally; and • 33.1% were ‘other’ Criminal Code violations* (3,261) compared to 18.8% nationally.
Thanks for all the details and descriptions you provided. I recognize the work you put into this. Safe travels always. 😊
A lot of info here and a lot of work and hrs compiling this video. Thank you for sharing . Awesome stuff.
Great video. Is there a place to park your car at the end of the north canol road at or just beyond the border?
Interesting question. There are so few vehicles that unless you're planning on being out there for multiple days, you could just park the vehicle on the verge. If this is an extended time, there is a pullout and landing strip about 5 or 10 mi before the border that would be better suited. Be sure to leave a note on the windshield noting your route and estimated return time.
Wow, great video!! We are doing the Dempster and that area next year. Best info I have seen yet, thank you for sharing all of you knowledge on this👍
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos have been very informative. Just curious how you made out for gas on the Canol Rd with the motor cycle? Did you carry extra gas?
Glad to hear that it was helpful. At moderate speeds (40-50mph) my bike's range is over 350 miles, enough for North Canol out and back. But yes, many bikes will require a strapped-on gallon or two.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thanks for bringing us along on your trip Jerry. Those views of Dawson at midnight are epic for sure. Can’t wait to get up there some day too. Sure hope Aubrey did the sourtoe shot lol!
You're welcome, but I'm not Jerry, though I did have the Sourtoe Cocktail. 😀
Planning a trip here next year! Great video thanks for the share❤
One of the best videos we've seen. Excellent and understandable commentary and beautiful video. Very, very well done. (*there is no ferry service from Haines to Anchorage)
This is by far the best video about Yukon I've seen
Wonderful video and thanks for putting it together. I have a question about the north Canol road. Are there any significant river/water crossings that might make it difficult for a decent offroad vehicle? I read articles about this road and its on my bucket list but I've heard that there are two crossings that are only passable a few weeks of the year as other times the water level and flow is too high/strong. My truck has a decent 10 inch clearance (4runner). thanks for sharing and the knowledge!
After the ferry at Ross River, all of the significant water crossings are bridged to the NW Territories border. You're likely to be fine in that vehicle to that point. To be safe, check on conditions in Ross River in case a bridge has washed out. Past the border is another story, but I hear that it becomes unpassable by any motorized vehicle within 20 miles or so.
@@selkinshome thanks!
Superbly done. Ford my interest to head to Yukon
Excellent video, great filming and editing, and love your calm narration. I hope to travel the North by truck camper next year, and this info was invaluable.
Just bit of trivia..Hiway 97 starts in or near to Weed California... continues north through BC 's Okanagan Valley and onward through the BC interior and the old trappers and stage coach route 100 Mile House etc from Kamloops on northward, through Cache Creek, Quesnel and eventually Prince George BC it where it angles north to Chetwynd , Dawson Creek then north and west to Fort St John, Fort Nelson and eventually Watson Lake YT. There are few services for hundreds of KM stretches in the section from Prince George to the "Forts" and then from the "Forts" to Watson Lake. For all intents and purposes..Hiway 97 is the Alcan Hiway from Dawson Creek west, all the way to Whitehorse YT and beyond to Haines Junction YT and onward to the Alaska Border north of Beaver Creek ..tho' from Watson Lake west it's known as Yukon 1. Toured BC,Yukon and Alaska for 7 summers on a variety of motorcycles..always making attendance in Dawson City for the solstice party and gathering known as "Dust to Dawson"
All great videos stumble on poor audiblity .this one is no exception
As a Sourdough of the 50's and 60's this is a very informative video!! Thanks Scott for a great trip down memory lane!!
Wonderful video and information, really great video. Ive watched it several times. Thanks tons for putting this together.
Agreed! The Yukon enters your psych and keeps calling one back. Planning my 5th trip in 45 years for 2025....Canol is figuring into the route for sure as is the Top of the World....To date, the Cassier and route to Stewart and Hyder remain a favorite as does the track back in the early 80's when the Alcan included 1000 miles of gravel. The Best!!!! The people, better.
Great outline! Appreciate the detail you put into this
Thank you. That was great no nonsense or hype pertinent information. You have piqued my interest.
Thanks so much!
I’ve always wondered how they get large amounts of fuel up there in the most remote towns? Seems like it wouldn’t be very cost effective to haul by tanker truck
The fuel, and everything else, is definitely more expensive in the remote towns. And yes, they bring the fuel by tanker truck.
@@selkinshome wow. I wondered if maybe they did it by ship and then offloaded from a ship into tanker trucks. Thanks for the reply
This is a great presentation! It brought back memories of my trip on a KTM 640. Now, many years later, I'm ready to go again, but in a Jeep this time. Luxury, with a heater and a fridge! I'm looking forward to the roads I haven't been on before and am pretty excited. Now, off to find more of your videos!
Enjoyed watching!
I have lived in Dawson City since 2009, and I found your video amazingly accurate! While I have traveled many of the roads in Yukon, you have been on even more of them than I have. I highly recommend the trip to Keno though. It is a very special place.
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I'd love to get up to Keno in the not too distant future...
Great video! We drove the Top of the World Highway from Alaska to Dawson City and the Dempster to Tuk and back in Summer 2023. It was wonderful to relive those drives through your video.
Very informative, thanks for making this video.
VERY well done, Scott Elkins. Thank you for the effort. Enjoyed it!
This was an amazing video and very thorough on the route. Awesome job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video! I always wanted to know more about this region!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Im planning a trip there, any issues near the border with crime? Cartel? Etc?
I really appreciate your honesty and beautiful voice ❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful desolation. Thanks for posting!
Thank you too!
The highway starts at Dawson Creek not Watson Lake.
u lost me at the toe..
You're not the first!
Wow! An accurate description. Thank you so much. You only made one error. 'Enter by one route and leave by the other'. A standard Yukon joke is "I came for a quick visit thirty years ago".
We don’t have miles in Canada it’s KILOMETERS for the past almost 50 years
I'd say Canada has many thousands of miles of lovely roads to travel... And 1.609 times as many kilometers of the same! 😁
Thank you very much for sharing your video of Yukon....I enjoy watching your travel ..❤
Thanks for the video and insights
Breath taking scenery. And you didn't mention the northern light shows. Up close you could hear them
Everyone seems to make kinda the same videos they stop at the same places mention the exact scenery other record for their videos.,thank you anyway for showing the experience.
Very nice to watch, thanks. I am going there in May.
Excellent guide, thank you so much!
Thank you for the detailed descriptions Hoping to travel some of these roads someday
