review their first huge hit "MAKE IT WITH YOU".. released in 1970 and reached #1 right after the Carpenters number #1 hit (also their first huge hit) "CLOSE TO YOU"... talk about 2 incredible all time classic hits number #1 back to back....
Bread reminds me so much of my brother. I'm not sure why. He had to have played these albums when I was a little girl. He passed in 2016. I miss him terribly. RKH Jr. RIP
Much respect to you young man. You’re not afraid to talk about religion that’s something hard to find these days.God bless.Your wife is alucky young lady.❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
I've read that they named their group "Bread" because they got stuck in traffic on the way to the studio, behind a big Bread truck. Their song "Aubrey" is a very sweet song like "If". I believe David Gates wrote it after seeing actress Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffany's". He just changed the name a little.
I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "If", "Make It with You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Everything I Own", "Diary" "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender" & "Aubrey". In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".
Hey Devin! I am a huge fan of Bread, they had a soft rock sound and David Gates soothing voice will lull you to sleep. They were popular in the 70s and I'm glad you finally are going to react to them. "It don't matter to me came out in 1969 and "Baby I'm-a want you" in 1972 are a couple of soft ones to start you down the rabbit hole. 😌💕
Hi Devin! This is my first time seeing you react to anything, and you just so happened to react to one of my favorite groups; BREAD! I certainly agree with the other suggestions that were made! Here are mine: BABY I'M-A-WANT YOU, MAKE IT WITH YOU, EVERYTHING I OWN, SWEET SURRENDER, IT DON'T MATTER TO ME, GUITAR MAN, DIARY, AUBREY, LOST WITHOUT YOUR LOVE, and LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE. The group also had a few good uptempo songs, MOTHER FREEDOM, and LET YOUR LOVE GO. When DAVID GATES finally went on to have a solo career, some of those hits were: GOODBYE GIRL, NEVER LET HER GO, and CLOUDS. He also had quite a few other good songs that didn't chart, but are certainly worth hearing as well! I'm not positive, but I think he also has a Christian song titled: DO YOU BELIEVE HE'S COMING. He also has a Christmas song: PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS.... Thanks again for reacting to BREAD, Devin! God bless you, and have a great day!
So glad that you reacted to this song "If" back in 71 and to this was my Highschool sweetheart song fortunately we broke up because he was one religion I was another but the good news is that in 2002 we got reconnected visit internet and we are back together now so bread has a special place in my heart we used to listen to the first half of the best of bread when we were dating
A very beautiful song, those lyrics, OMG I think I have that album. I used to buy lots of vinyl years and years ago. I hear this again and brought back those chills and goosebumps. The physical youth part of me might be gone, but the music lives on and takes me back to that time.
Nice reaction, Thanks for that! Guitar Man is another great song by Bread. They have a unique sound but it's very soothing & really good! Cheers from Canada
Love your reactions devin. Your energy is contagious. I’m an old soul from the 60s ,70s. Really enjoy your take on music I grew up on. Time for Beatles. Greatest all time!
So GLAD you've found the group, Bread, Devin! I've been a tremendous fan for over 50 years. They have some wonderful music: "Aubrey", "Diary", etc. but the absolute MUST LISTEN is "Everything I Own" that David wrote for his father. It is fabulous. ❤
My uncle, Larry Knechtel ( OHMYGOODNESS you prounounced it right!) is the keyboardist, bassist, for bread. Thank you for your reaction!! He has passed on so I appreciate your words!
Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but music back in the 70s just seemed to have more of an emotional element to it. maybe it's just the memories I've formed along with these songs, but I've never cried to an Adele song, but these guys make me cry every time. If you'd like to try another Bread song, please allow me to suggest Everything I Own. the bridge makes me blubber like a baby, and if you react to it, I'll tell you why. it's an achingly beautiful song about loss. It sort of sounds like someone mourning the loss of a lover, a relationship, as if the lover broke up with him, but David Gates actually wrote it upon his father's death.
I wish you the happiness of listening to Bread's overwhelming song "Everything I Own" (1972) and to David Gates, his masterpiece: "Suite: Clouds, Rain" (1973). Thanks.
I'm a new subscriber and I really like when you react to songs I grew up listening to. I really like also when you react to the BeeGees, they're my favorite group. You have indicated once about Morice not getting enough attention, check out Man in the Middle and Walking on Air. Keep up the excellent reactions ,and God bless!
GUITAR MAN!!!! ( not the one Elvis did) this one was written by David Gates. He is from Tulsa OK. He became a rancher after he retired. He retired again. To show you how old that song is David Gates with that baby face is now 81 years old and has been married since 1958!!!!!
Check out "Mother Freedom" it's a real good groovy harder guitar vibe. Our church youth group went to a Valentine's day banquet with other church youth groups in the area and they played this song. ♥️
Devin, do you ever listen to a song and apply the emotions and sentiments in the song to love for God (or the love of God), instead of thinking of the song as being a romantic song to a sweetheart? I do that sometimes. And this song is perfectly suited for that. It fits perfectly as a worship song. Re-read the lyrics with that in mind.
Now, you go to your wife and tell her you have a song to dedicate to her......trust me on this one. 😊 David Gates is all good...all songs are fantastic.
It's cool this old song shook you. It did me too! Whether someone is God-fearing or not this guy David Gates hits all heart strings don't you think? A gorgeous melody. Does he have a current equivalent?
Please do Everything I own. David Gates is another amazing artist. Glad you brought him out. Do some others. Please. You will love them. I hope you turn your wife on to these songs once you've listened. Everyone should be able to enjoy this music. I grew up in the best of music times. 60's and on.
This was back when music was original. All songs sounded different. The love songs of today can't hold a candle to the ones back then. They're just not as deep in meaning or have that softness of sound.

Don't need no sugar, syrup or sweetener when it comes to BREAD.... what a voice .
I LOVE that you always give GOD and Jesus so much credit. I find it so amazing that GOD LOVES sinners, like me. GOD BLESS YOU!!
Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but music back in the 70s just seemed to have more of an emotional element to it. maybe it's just the memories I've formed along with these songs, but I've never cried to an Adele song, but these guys make me cry every time. Love Bread
They were great
I say it proud and loud,I need and love Jesus!
No interruptions. Excellent review.
I love this song and I think of my late wife Lin.
David Gates also sang the theme song for the 1977 romantic comedy The Goodbye Girl with Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason.
I haven’t heard this in years, and I still remember the lyrics.(no, I I wasn’t reading them).
Love Bread
"Baby I'm-a want you,"
"It don't matter to me"

( not the one Elvis did) this one was written by David Gates. He is from Tulsa OK. He became a rancher after he retired. He retired again. To show you how old that song is David Gates with that baby face is now 81 years old and has been married since 1958!!!!!
It’s much more difficult to sing softly than to scream!
Check out "Mother Freedom" it's a real good groovy harder guitar vibe. Our church youth group went to a Valentine's day banquet with other church youth groups in the area and they played this song. ♥️

David Gates is all about Jesus and sings a little country every now and then.
David Gates voice!!!!
This was back when music was original. All songs sounded different. The love songs of today can't hold a candle to the ones back then. They're just not as deep in meaning or have that softness of sound.
