its mt 39th year of going to sea. I have lost track of the number of times I have made landfall at scilly or ushant. .. its always a good feeling having made it across the Atlantic and you can seek comfort being in the channel after a rough crossing. the song bring back some good memories. thanks from an old Cap'n
When I was recovering in hospital from sepsis, one of the nurses who saved my life was a beautiful Spanish girl named Belen. L fell desperately in love with her. This lovely Spanish Lady always makes me think of her. Thank you Helena.
thanks for a fantastic performance, i am british and a service man an heard this song a billion times but this is the greatest ive ever heard sung! beautiful!
Really great cover Helena. This song is such a man's song about the pain of having to leave your woman and making that choice between your commitment someone you love and commitment to your country. About living with a bunch of other guys in an enclosed space like a ship and how thinking about your lady can give you solace. Totally changes the perspective when a woman does a version of the song. Can't help but think about what the woman is thinking about having her man go away for a long time. Even better having a Spanish Lady sing it just kind of deepens that. Thanks so much again.
This is the only song I have ever heard from Helena Cinto but it is one of my favourite songs ever. My father and I sail together in Scotland and I love it. Thank you Helena! :D ;)
We are entertaining a Spanish lady to dinner next Saturday and I've been singing the lines 'farewell and adieu' etc. My wife wanted to hear the whole song and that's how I found you. What a lovely voice and style you have. With all good wishes you have a new subscriber
I've had this song on my favorites list for years now and I never get tired of listening to it. Back when I was reading the Aubrey-Maturin series I especially enjoyed listening to it. I'd always liked the song but didn't fully appreciate or understand it until I read the books. Thank you Ms. Cinto for sharing such a beautiful version of this song with us.
Im from Spain and when I hear this song I forget about conflicts between Spain and England, specially when I hear this cover sung by this Spanish singer lady.
@@HelenaCinto Thank You Helena, I only found your Wonderful Voice yesterday morning when I heard you sing Dacw Nghariad. I had never heard this song before, and so you brought to me the extra pleasure of filling in an hour by writing a modern lyric to it. So, Thank 'You' once again. Best, Jamie
Ms. Cinto, your voice is very melodious and your accent and pronunciation are beautiful; I cannot listen to your amazing rendition of this song enough times... Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful song!
Wow - amazing voice and song. Never heard it before and found it per random. Haunting and mystical. I have now heard the other versions of the song incl Sarah Blasko but somehow Helenas version stand out to me; slowing the tempo benefits the song and the words stand clearer. Something in the chorus gives is some extra power although I cant really point the magic out :)
A COMELY, EYESOME PLEASURE FOR THE EYES AND EARS TO ENJOY! Three cheers and bravo, Helena Cinto! Marvellously well done, may the Almighty replenish your ingenious resources a thousand times more!

@@HelenaCinto You're very welcome! Your voice is mesmerizing. I find myself listening over and over....I'm about to go listen to more of your music. You have a new fan!! :o) God bless!!
@@HelenaCinto Thank you, Dear Lady, I shall!! In fact, I'm a historian teaching college classes in Louisiana, USA. I love to include films and the music of the time periods I lecture about during the course of my daily classes in order to give them a "feel" for the periods being discussed, even as I lecture. I'd love to use this and some of your other historical renditions, if that's acceptable to you. For instance, I lecture on the contributions of the British navy to British Imperial history, and I'd love to play this song as we discuss the topic, if you don't mind. :o)
Tipper Glenmar of course you can! You must be a good teacher 😊 I love the idea of music/history. And in music, that’s my favorite :Finding old songs, very old songs with a big charge of history in them. The phrasing is immaculate, particularly on the line "from Ushant to Scilly is 35 leagues" . Really brings out the melancholy and wistfulness of this shanty, not so obvious in other versions.
Oh this is very lovely! I stumbled upon it while looking for Spanish Ladies, and then I listened to your other songs and they're all really good! Will be forwarding this to my sea shanty fan friends. Please do more sea shanties! I recommend the Mingulay Boat Song! We used to sing it on peaceful evenings at sunset when I was on the sailing vessel Hawaiian Chieftain.
