Awesome video! How did that clearance work that you did in cylinder 2 work out? I've heard that we need to account for things flexing a bit at high speeds. It looks like maybe you accounted for that, but it wasn't clear. Thanks for the great video!
Its always good practice to weigh your pistons, rings and rods and be as similar weight wise, otherwise try to mix and match or even take some material out. This makes a huge difference in high rpm engine vibrations.
Pinchaels garage is all you need he has complete engine removal strip down rebuild and refit videos with all torque specs I fully built my ARZ in my living room watching his videos
hey sir i found on an audi manual these specs -Cylinder Maximum deviation from the specified dimension: 0.08 mm. -Piston Maximum deviation from the specified dimension: 0.04 mm. So the standard diametre + max deviation is 81.01+0.08=81.09mm and piston 80.975-0.04=80.945mm is it normal to have a clearance of 0.145 (81.09-80.945) ? even tho the standard clearance was 0.04 (81.01-80.975) so the clearance of this engine can go from 0.04 up to 0.13 ?
Stumbled upon this video I just bought a MK4 Jetta 1.8t and I was just searching on how I could get 300whp reliably if you could help with that would appreciate it very much
1.8 t has the problem with ring, they are low quality, made a not good seal, then engine has a oil problem in motor, audi change this on models from 2012 till now, i drive 2003 1.8t and 2009 1.8 t , this can be fixes u buy a new 4mm ring i think from titanium and dont”t have problem any more, i don’t know did u get new od use old i se u do overhaulim on this engine
Been following you for a while ..........your a wizard at this 1.8t thing

bla bla bla...
that was 20 yrs ago, not anymore
THANK YOU! I’ve been looking for a video on how to do this... Very helpful!

how many should it be 1.8t aeb factory stock engine connecting rods torque specs?
What did you ever do with this motor and car?
Are you using nom-OE connecting rods, is that why you had the clearance issue on cyl #2?
Yes - Manley connecting rods.
@@vsvenson I didn’t have this problem on a BAM coded (1.8T 225hp Audi TT 8n) engine with aftermarket rods?
its with early engines and H beam rods
To be specific I believe due to the block being 058, apparently there would be clearance issues.
What is the engine displacement now with the Alh crank?
How is the engine holding on after the build?
Blew up cause he didn't balance them
WOW WHAT A FANTASTIC VIDEO
Nice we're u located looking for someone to do the same for me
How much go you running and your using the stock pistons correct?
I know someone running 700hp on stock pistons it's a drag car so dno about longevity reliability but 500hp is fine with them
Do you have a link for the ring compressor tool.
Is this an o58 block??
yes
I would love to learn , how to do bottom end . how can I learn that?? thanks for the video 👍
I have a video about measuring and putting the crankshaft in on this engine.
do you have to be a mechanic to do all that?? because I am not a mechanic but I am a body tech
1.8t have a problem piston ring ....No stock here in the Philippines..
did you re-use the bolts or replace them again ?
These were new rods and new bolts.
@@vsvenson arent the main cap bolts stretch bolts? if you had to take the crank out did you use new ones?
@@vsvenson what torque spec and sequence did you use? yhanks
Can you rebuild my 1.8t?
Pistons can handle all that power so only the rods are the weak links?
That's what a good friend of mine tells me... time will tell. If you can afford new forged pistons, I'm sure it's a good investment.
Over 300 hp on these angines require new cranks and lloottss offf others.
@@KowalDWR lol shut up
I hear the cranks are rated at 1000hp the head and valvetrain around that area as well from people that have tested it who knows just rumored
Because the rods are subject to the torque loads. It's not horsepower or combustion pressure that blows rods. It's torque at the crank.

Thanks for sharing. U r patient.
T so true! I’m hoping Van just saved the cursing for off the camera. Otherwise, that is just super-human levels of patience!
no plasti guage ?
No, I measure clearances with a micrometer and bore gauge.

The block is plenty strong. Just upgrade the connecting rods and maybe the pistons, then turn the boost up!
058 block? Will the same work be required for EAGLE rods?
I'm not sure about Eagle rods.

Is it okay to shave a small amount? Should I shave a large amount considering the effects of heat after starting?
