NOTE: 11:20 Stacked Transitions - You HAVE to use Fusion Transitions (scroll down in the Transitions list within Effects Library!). The Regular Transitions cause a weird bug in Resolve where it makes the preview window black. I wasn't aware of this at the time as always used Fusion Transitions (or my own free to download ones!). Thanks for those that mentioned it in the comments 🙂👍
On of the most useful time saving workflow videos ever. Love your content. I share it all the time. If you could create multiple types of compounds to speed you and your editor up, how could you prevent the edit files from having to be relinked each time. Tried a Dropbox workflow to share assets. Make clump outs clip shortcuts for template project. But files break Due to different download paths. How would you work to share edit assets to speed you and your editor. Using same assets. A library of compound shortcuts that can be shared and added to without breaking or making clips go offline. I know nobody pulled my string but I always will shoot my shot lol. Keep it coming bro !
MrAlexTech you read my mind. I was just searching yesterday for information on compound clips, and your tutorial has expanded that knowledge and given me new creativity tips. Thanks so much!
HA HA HA, really glad I watched it through to the end… and didn’t embarrass myself by bringing up the power bin limitation - which is a major gripe of mine… this would be immensely useful. Once more, great video Alex, mahalo.
Wow. Just starting with DVR. So many fantastic things it can do so easily. Your vids are so useful. Lots of rewinding and pausing, but so worth the effort. Thanks MrAlexTech
The last one with the combined transitions was a great idea. 😃👍🏽 But one downside on compound clips I realized was the increased workload on the hardware. As I made a compound clip with 10 layers of only PNGs my system died. Having the same clips without compounding them, it works.
Bloody marvellous!!! Definetly use it in my projects going forward. Such a great way of keeping projects clean and less chance of messing things up. THANKS ALEX!
Thank You Thank You Thank You - I'm new to Davinci Resolve and this explanation of compound clips is fantastic. Its😀 going to allow me to do some interesting things far more quickly whilst staying organized!!! LOVE IT
I'm making my new GTA garage tour video where each garage has 21 titles. Last year, it was a right 'mare, keeping everything together. I had no idea I could just compound each garage when done then easily re-arrange stuff! You are a star and gratz on the 100K subs!
Thanks. I didn't realise that breadcrumbs type project navigation in the bottom left of timeline, that is helpful. There is one extremely important thing missing in this video, which is surely worth adding (unless I skipped past this)... a shortcut to 'open in timeline'. I am unsure if there is any native shortcut or quick way I'm missing (because right click > open in timeline every time is a huge deal breaker) - I have just set it to ctrl+alt+T.
Hi Alex, they may not add the option to save compound clips to power bins, since if you open one in a new timeline, you are able to save it as a standalone project and use it that way. Love your videos - you make me look amateur. Keep it up please
I've been using them, but I didn't know you could open them up and make changes. I've been duplicating my tracks first I need to revert, so this is very helpful and more efficient.
Whoa. You just made my left so much easier! All this time when I wanted to edit something in my compound clip, I was doing the decompose in place! Always an easier way. Thank you for continuing to come in clutch!
Wow. Another brilliant set of tips and tricks. That one at the end using multiple Compound clips to create a multi-effect transition was the BOMB! I have got to use that! Thanks so much. P.S. And YES, please let us add these to our Power Bins.
hello alex love from india, pls provide a tutorial over davinci resolve all keybinds shortcuts and explaining each key what it is for i hope you understood what i wanna say there is no tutorial for such as there are many keys set by default and i only know about start to playhead and all but still there left many keys to which i wanna know that what they are useful for, pls help and provide a full guide tutorial.
I've had similar issues with clips that are the wrong type, e.g. a mono clip with a 7.1 track. So, if you haven't already, check that the audio is the same on the original file, in the compound clip, and on the track it's on on the timeline you're using.
Well, I'm chuffed that you got to 100K - you worked hard for that, but it looks like it was fun. Compound clips could be saved by making the project as a template. Then you start every project by opening "template" and rename it straight away.
Wow - this was unbelievably helpful Alex...thanks so much man 🙏🏻. I had no idea you could go back into a compound clip to re-edit it 🤯 So many cool uses here man - thanks so much 🙏🏻
Another awesome tutorial Alex! Every video I make is a little better than the last... why? Because I watch your videos and pick up new tips and ideas before I start editing each new project! Keep up the great work mate. Cheers, Nick
I'm currently learning DaVinci after having spent 12 years in Adobe Premiere/After Effects. So the translation is just that Nested Clips in Adobe are the equivalent of Compound Clips here in DaVinci
Thank you!!! The borders or Polaroid effect will improve the look when I share photos in my photography vlog. I’ve been struggling to find a fast and easy way to add borders, and this is drop-dead easy! 😁😁😁
Hi Alex, You are my go to on Davinci Resolve, always have been...THANKS! Question...you had a video out some time ago on Q and W clip trimming. DR 18 messed this up for me and now I have to recreate the shortcut and can't remember how. Your how to vids have always been GREAT step by step and at just the right speed to follow along...I can not find this video anywhere...I'm 100% it was you, ok, maybe 98%, 95% for sure! can you point me in the right direction? Once again thanks for all you do...it really does make a difference!!
Compound clips and Audio. How does that work? I'm often dealing with Cameras that record multiple files per take (take 1 = 3 contiguous media files). These cameras often have different things on audio channel 1 and 2, but compound clips also make 2 audio channels into 1. If you decompose a compound clip that's been edited, it's doesn't restore both audio channels. The goal for me is to remove this huge transcoding step with cameras like this. It's sadly not as simple a thing as I'd like. I believe my best solution is to separate the Audio from the Camera files before bringing into the NLE, then treating those as independent sync audio. A mess, but if I believe that's the only way to preserve the audio channels for mixing. Thanks for the help.
So you’re telling me instead of having multiple assets, stacked on top of each other each time I want to make or adjust a logo I can use this… Hell yeah awesome video
Awesome video! I use compound clips but your tutorial vastly expanded what I was doing with them. Unless I’m wrong, the other downside of compound clips is losing transparency. Example, if I have clips sliding in, make it a compound clip, instead of placing the compound clip above other media in the timeline (showing the footage below the compound clip) you only see black. Maybe I’ve missed the solution, but did google the issue and couldn’t find anything. Keep up the great work and congrats again on this growing channel :)
Hey! Thank you :) Someone else mentioned that but I'm wondering if it was an older bug in 17 as transparency seems to be totally fine in 18! I've done some other quick tests and all seems to be working :)
@@MrAlexTech This is great news! I’m stuck in 17 until I finish my current project (not tempting the editing god with changing over). There are lot of things that have me excited about 18, this news just adds to the list!
@@AnotherBrightIdea Ohh hang on, I might be wrong here ha! Are you talking about when specifically using Transitions within Compound clips?! As just tested and THAT does still seem to be an issue. I actually don't use Transitions often within compounds. I generally use the transitions ON the compound itself, rather than inside it.
@@MrAlexTech oh well. No biggie. Davinci Resolve is so much better than anything else I’ve used, including Premiere Pro, more than happy to work around the small things :) thanks for checking!

game changer!
For me the coolest thing ist the multiple transition. Thanks for sharing!!!😉

Fab Mr Alex Tech. Bringing us all up to pro level (ish) at no cost. Love it. My customers think I’m a genius.
U just jammed so much worthwhile info into that tutorial - brilliant Alex. Thx a million.
WOW, that's a lot of great ideas. So much info, so fast. Great work!
Fantastic and clear video, thank you so much for sharing!
It's time we get to see compound clips in Power Bins... 🥺 By the way Heartiest Congratulation on 100k ☺👍🏻
it's 2 years later and guess what?, we can't still add compound clips to Power Bin! 🤦♂

Ik 😢 to preview my footage with smooth playback I had to disable the track that has all my compound clips.
Thanks, Alex, you're the best. I just need a compound clip for the first time (a credits page with multiple company logos) and here you are ...
Yo Squarespace is the sponsor now. The come up has happened. Congrats Alex. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
