Not many know this interesting trivia about New Krishna Bhavan, Malleswaram, that until the recent lockdown this restaurant had not closed its doors even for a single day ever since they opened for business in 1954! Quite in contrast to the popularity of this vegetarian eatery.
NKB, as it is fondly referred to by the locals who flock here not just for the satisfying tiffin and lunch fare, but also for tasty innovations like the green masala idli and the button idli, which apparently was made popular here first. In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, we catch the making of the intriguing and rather tasty green masala idli and also partake of a sumptuous breakfast at New Krishna Bhavan. Hope you enjoy this one; take care, stay safe and happy eating.
Note: This episode was filmed a couple of months ago when dine-in was permitted.

Sir..... Thank you sooo much... This was a very nostalgic episode. As a little girl growing up I stayed in the apartment behind this hotel. My dad would give me money and I would run from the back of our apartment gate and bring him his favorite set dosa and sagu. I remember the grandfather of the present owner talking to me. I also remember going into the kitchen and waiting for the head chef that ypu showed in in show making the dosa. The present owner's father also used to talked to me and my mom. About 2 or 2 1/2 years ago when we visited he was there and we had a conversation with us. Oh yes!! I also remember playing hide and seek in this hotel. It used to house a lodge above the restaurant. We as kids were always warned not to go up those stairs.. and we were scared to even go near them. So many many little stories and it's just pure NOSTALGIA..... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR IT......My parents me and my family still visit this restaurant. It's our Favorite....

And with the news coming up on it's closure I feel very disheartening and I think I will miss this place. But Kripal sir has made this place immortal through this video.

At 8.35 the way the owner pushes forward the cook to explain ingredients of button idli.

    Kripal sir,
you are the first food blogger who is more interested in reviewing food the way it is and less interested in making click bait-y videos of food for likes and views.
Also, like your approach of selecting only those restaurants for review who doesn't serve food with loads of cheese, mayo, butter, schezwan sauce etc. Excess of These things spoils the taste of food and majority of food bloggers are only covering those food items which includes alot of cheese, butter, schezwan sauce etc.
Thanks for giving us such quality content❤
    Love from Mumbai❤

I loved your interaction with the owner and the chefs. I have seen so many episodes of your show and what I usually notice is that owners of a lot of long standing establishments don’t really appear too friendly(sometimes bordering on arrogance) or don’t seem to encourage their chefs to claim attention for the wonderful food they have been cooking. The owner of this eatery really came across like a supportive and encouraging employer. The one other episode where I felt this was true was when you were at Dwarka Hotel at NR colony.

The original old Bengaluru is still clean and green because it is maintained by the local dominated Bangaloreans. The areas like Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Vijaynagar, Malleswaram, Banashankari stages, Rajajinagar, Girinagar , RR Nagar and few other areas over south Bengaluru are local dominated areas. If you go to those IT areas like near by electronic city, Marathahalli, Bellendur etc.. dominated by outsiders. Hell lot of traffic and those ppl don't maintain their surroundings good. It's just destruction in the name of development. All outsiders say that the weather is awesome, beautiful bla bla but forget to maintain their surroundings. None of the anchors of the food shows across India, showcase their love for food more brilliantly and in detail as you do. You've in depth knowledge of culinary. (One exception being Rakesh Raghunath) Many try to copy Highway on my Plate- Rocky Singh & Mayur Sharma and end up with poor performance of reviewing only the ingredients which can be seen in the food. You're just amazing and extraordinary. Please visit Subbanna Mess in Melukote. The authentic Iyengar Puliyogare and Sakkare Pongal needs a review from you. The dish comes to limelight after you relish it and exclaim.... hmmmm.
That expression is worth watching. Can feel the taste without eating any. You rock as always. (Visit Mangalam Hotel in Krishnagiri, for their Meals and Biriyani)

The old saying is true, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". 70 years old, so they've been doing something right.
It must be really special to eat at a restaurant where your Grandfather ate, and eat the same food, cooked by the same chef who cooked for your Grandfather. It would feel like eating at home, with your family and that's why their customers keep coming back 👍

Chef who cooked for my grandfather may not be living now.
But it is the tradition, cooking method and may be thier unique style in still carried forward, may be the reason for maintaining the taste.

Thanks Kripal for visiting our favorite place and all our fond food memories got rekindled! Love their green masala idli, button idli and Ragi dosa! Their filter coffee is just perfect!

I grew up in this area - coming here with parents after a movie was a HUGE treat! I always used to look at the menu but ate what was ordered - mostly a shared "plate meals" - that gave us the comfort of the food we knew but in an established "hotel" - this episode brought back many many fond memories.
Even with the evocative details on the green masala idly, as interesting as it seems, if I do go back (and I hope I get a chance some day), I will revert back to the comforting plate-meals 😋😌

This video made us time-travel back to the mid 70s, early 80s when we enjoyed rava idli, masala dosa and carrot halwa at NKB! Sri. Prabhu, the senior with his sons would welcome all customers with a smile! Pleasant memories. On the other side (Namma Metro side) of the road stood two movie theatres and the famous "Raja Mill". Thanks for this episode.

I really liked the owner for couple nof things. First retaining the 72 year old Chef. It is really great. Second he has not changed the interior and seating. Now a days all the restaurant are using new seating which are vey good for looks but not for a comfortable seating. Great.

This seems out of context but I tried the earthloaf (Naviluna) chocolates from one of your previous videos, and they exceeded our expectations. The phrase "fragrant taste" held very true.
