Pest control technician here! I would highly recommend some PPE darling like the label says to do. You do not want to get that stuff on your skin when wet it’s not safe and you are in fact slowly poisoning yourself. But great job otherwise!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I won’t sugar coat it I can be a bit lax on ppe from time to time especially when it’s 85 degrees out 😆 no excuse though. Like I’ve said in other comments I like to take a shower when I’m done spraying and I scrub my skin down really good and put on fresh clothes after I’m done spraying. So hopefully that helps rinse it off my skin so it’s not sitting for too long. You should see some of the supposed “professional” spray companies around here they are a buncha cowboys sometimes the house across the street the company that sprays he literally just wears rubber boots no gloves, t-shirt, that’s about it lol considering he’s exposed to this 5 days a week I’d say I would definitely be taking PPE a LOT more seriously if I was exposed to the stuff more frequently than once every 30 days 😆. Thanks for watching!
Forreal! Here in California it’s long sleeve, eyewear, mask, boots, pants and the THICK gloves. Stuff is no joke! Especially spraying overhead I would definitely take the PPE more seriously. Good luck out there
I used to be a pest control guy I’d recommend switching between bifen in any capacity and a talstar same active ingredient but the other is switched up so you don’t run the risk of insects passing along resistance to your pesticides.
Ross Carpenter excellent advice! I actually do the same thing here, I shop domyown.com a lot and they have some articles on the same topic with a lot of good advice. Same as herbicides, I try to mix things up and selectively spray only the areas that need it. Plants can build up a resistance just like pests can. Chemical rotation. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I'm in Puerto Rico doing volunteer work. Omg I have like 30 bites from mosquitos and gnats. I bought OFF which is the mosquito tick and bug repellent. Smells horrible. I'm doing a huge clean up yard work. I'm definitely going to try this once I'm done with the clean up. I'll keep you posted. THANK YOU so much for your video. I appreciate the time you took to make your video with excellent explanation. Blessings :)
Glad you found this video useful! Keep in mind the products I use are NOT designed for skin contact like OFF and others are. These are for preventing bugs from coming into an area in the first place. You can also spray this stuff along foundations, in basements, around windows and doors, cracks and crevices to help provide a barrier to bugs coming inside a dwelling. So it does a lot more than just mosquito control as well which is nice. As for OFF, which uses Deet as the ingredient, is totally safe for skin. Try the cutter brand I find it’s less oily and smelly than the OFF brand. The 25% deet should work well. Good luck in Puerto Rico! Sounds like a very rewarding experience. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYDad1 Yes I know they're not for skin application :D But, once I'm done with this yard work I will use it for the entire yard and around this house. Can't wait. I love what I do. This island was thrashed back to back by hurricanes in 2017 and then earthquakes. It's so beautiful. It's relentless. The locals in the mountains still have needs. Not all of the elderly in the mountains can manage yard work. Though I've seen a 96 year old kick butt and his art in using a machete is priceless. Lol. I'll never complain lol Amazing Thank you :)
@@guardingheroes haha just wanted to make sure, I’ve been asked some crazy questions on here before so I’m sure you can believe it 😆. Yeah I can’t imagine what those people are going through that beautiful island was totally wrecked. I know a guy from Puerto Rico who visited there a year or two ago and it was just a mess. Nice to see there are still people going there to help out when they can. Enjoy your time there I’m sure you’ll make some lifelong connections as well 😍. Stay safe, and God bless.
@@DIYDad1 LMAO I believe it. No question is a stupid question. Buttttttt, there are some that make my head spin lolol BTW, what you do helps me help others. So your putting your little grain of volunteer work here too. Gnats, mosquitoes ticks, fleas, exist here too. Ugh. I thank you, the enchanted island of #PuertoRico thanks you too. You should put it in your bucket list. Plenty to do here. YOU ROCK!
@@guardingheroes thanks for the kind words! That’s what this channel is all about is helping people and spreading knowledge about what I’ve picked up along the way, being self reliant to fix things yourself. Of course I try to have fun with it as well 😁 I like to stay busy. BTW, should have a new video coming soon testing a fogger application of Bifenthrin. Just another way of applying it if you have a very large area to cover. Should have that posted up in a week or so hopefully. Thanks for watching! Don’t hesitate to ask questions if they come up!
Thanks so much for this!!! This stuff works amazing and this vid literally saved me 100s because I don’t have to pay anyone to do my own insect control. And this stuff is pet safe!!!
B Wilson glad this video could help, that’s what these are here for! Remember, it’s pet safe once the liquid is dry, so after about an hour or two it’s totally safe 😁. Thanks for watching!
If you like Bifen I/T, you should try Bifen XTS. The XTS variant is oil based for a longer residual plus it has a baked in surfactant and ~3x higher concentration of bifenthrin.
Clay A yes I’ve heard of the XTS version. At the time I asked about it, the people at domyown had suggested using the standard version. But I might try the xts at some point as I think it would be really good as a broadcast lawn application or something like a deep soil soak application. Thanks for commenting and watching!
@@DIYDad1 I was just providing a little feedback Besides the loud music Your video was great imo Made me interested in your hose video I will see if you have one Thank you
Hi, I sprayed my yard and house all over with bifen.... I sprayed the patio light right outside my door..... so far so good with mosquitos and keeping bugs out, but tonight, 6 days after spraying (no rain for 48 hours after I sprayed) when I was out at night with patio light on, the flies were BAD right at the light... swarming the light.... I sprayed the light and surrounding part of the house by the light... this was the 1st time since I sprayed that I went outside with patio light on..... will the flies that kept hitting the light eventually die off from the residual of the bifen it (7.9%) or is bifen just not effective for flies that are attracted to the light?
Interesting, I never thought to actually spray the light they are attracted to. But you’re right, you’ll definitely get flies and bugs attracted to lights regardless. If they land on the light and come into contact with the Bifenthrin it could kill them off probably. As long as the heat doesn’t burn off the Bifen. I honestly don’t know if the light would generate too much heat to render it ineffective or not. Interesting. Spraying your entire yard or back yard where you hang out most can definitely decrease their numbers but you’ll still get flies especially with lights on. I try to leave the lights out and that always helps lol. But yeah I bet it would probably help decrease their numbers if you spray the light. Doesn’t hurt I guess!
Pest control Technician here! Nothing stops attractants such as light from attracting pests but you could make sure that they die if they touch the thing attracting them if it’s treated with a pesticide. A better way from stopping insects from being attracted to light is to change out your light bulb with what is called an “insect light bulb” it uses a yellow frequency of light that does not attract as many species of insects. Hope that helps!
I don't know if that would work as an emulsifier, dish soap is usually used as a surfactant, allowing something to better adhere to the surface, so a few drops of dish soap might work well during application to stick to the surface of tree leaves and shrubs, however I probably wouldn't try to add it to the concentrate, I don't believe that is recommended anywhere on the label and I'm not sure if that would affect anything. You just have to shake it because it begins to separate. A large full new bottle like this I shook like crazy, but now that its about half full now a couple years after I made this video I just give it a quick shake and its all good.
Trim that tree some, that will keep a lot of insects and skeeeters out as they get more exposure to sunlight, also critters use it as a ladder to get onto your house
Carlos Acosta I usually re-apply every 30 days. The label on the bottle of product will tell you how often to reapply depending on how much you use and where you use it. Applications not directly exposed to rain like selling house foundations and a garage for example will last a bit longer than if you’re spraying directly to a tree or something. Hope that helps!
Jason it’s safe once fully dried. As long as animals and kids are not within the application site during application, I usually wait about 2-3 hours before re-entering the area then it is animal safe. I’ve been spraying this in my back yard for years and I have two dogs that eat grass and everything, they are perfectly fine after all these years and they are 11 and 10 years old!
I would wait til after rain. Of you apply it too soon before a rain it could wash away reducing the amount of time that the chemical is active for. It will still be there in the soil and on plants but greatly diluted. Best to wait til after a rain and it will dry and stay there for longer. Thanks for watching!
Victor O just as long as the application is totally dry before it rains it should be okay. They recommend 1-2 hours dry time before re-entering the area as well. But if you can apply it a full 24 hours before rain is in the forecast you will get maximum efficacy out of it. Otherwise yes some of it will go into the soil. Soil applications are more for grub control so this product still works even after its watered in, just not as effective against mosquitoes that land on the surface of leaves if that makes sense. But you shouldn’t have to reapply more than every 30 days unless you get a lot of daily torrential rain. In that case you might wan to reapply every two weeks I think that would be safe. But if you apply Bifenthrin on a regular basis just remember that you need to do some sort of insecticide rotation so the insects are not building up a resistance to it. So rotating every other application with another type of product is a best practice. Hope that helps!
I love the Bifen products, but I use the Bifen XTS. It has more of a "yard life", meaning it stays around much longer. I treat my property 2-3x depending on how bad my problem is. I haven't had ticks/scorpions/spiders in over 2 years. But those little black ants are my Achilles hill! I'm dead set on killing them!
One question: does it work to kill all kinds of insects? My concern is about bees, as I have a garden with lots of flowers, it attracts lots of bees, and don't want to kill them
Yes this stuff will target a wide array of insects and arachnids i would be careful to not apply to anything you don’t want to harm bees. My friend has honey bees and he doesn’t go anywhere near them with this stuff. I would be careful with overspray and maybe only use this is a perimeter control around the foundation of your house if you’re going to use it if you farm honey or anything like that. I like to go to this website and check the list of insects it will work on they also have the entire label with instructions on application methods and application area you can check out here. They might even have something on their website that is bee friendly. www.domyown.com/bifen-it-p-226.html#!specs reach out to their customer service if you want something that’s bee safe they might be able to help out. They have always been very friendly and helpful. Hope this helps. Good luck and thanks for watching!
I also have the gf either spray or have the backpack blower on, and we spray way up into the trees. I live in GA about 40 southeast of Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport, kinda out in the country. But my neighbors only use a subpar pest control company
For mosquitoes and general applications I usually reapply every 30 days in the worst of the infestation in the summer months then back off to every 60 days this time of year when bugs aren't as bad. It's also a good idea to rotate pesticide use every few months so you aren't applying the exact same active ingredients every month so the insects don't build up a tolerance.
This stuff works, haha! I sprayed outside foundation perimeter last night and in the morning I found gang of dead roaches and dead earwings around the foundation! I’m just overnight. How long does the residual last ?
Nice! Glad to hear that it worked so well for you! It depends on the strength that you mix it at and what the target pests are, it should be further in on the label where it tells you how much to mix for what you’re trying to target, but just as a typical rule of thumb mixing for the all purpose pest perimeter pest control you should see about 30 days residual control before you need to re-apply again. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYDad1 I mixed like 4 ounces for 1 gallon haha! And I sprayed all over windows, doors, foundation and roof eaves. I’m still seeing dead roaches and earwigs and dead ants every morning in the foundation perimeters.
@@joseleon7444 haha that’s a pretty heavy dosage lol I bet your residual is going to be 60 days or so at that rate! Just be sure to not over-apply too frequently because bugs can build up an immunity to it over time and it can lose efficacy. Similar to how we rotate fungicides annually, you should also rotate pesticides every few months just to ensure that they continue to work long term.
@@DIYDad1 I will use other separate treatments that are not bifentrin every 3 months. That way insects don’t build resistance theres tons of different termiticides out there
Jordan Sorrick at the rate I spray at, I usually re-apply every 30 days but depending on what target pests you are going after and if you follow a different usage rate on the bottle it can go up to 60 days between applications. I only spray this during the summer months so if you live somewhere warm that you need pest control year round it’s typically recommended to rotate between different kinds of insecticide so the bugs don’t build up a resistance to any single type that you are spraying. Just something to keep in mind if you are going to be spraying 12 months a year. Hope that helps!
@@DIYDad1 I live in Missouri and simply need it for mosquitoes. I think I will just need it for the months of May-September. I've been reading up on how mosquitoes can build a tolerance to bifenthrin. What other insecticide do you utilize to prevent buildup of resistance? I'm not sure how much resistance they will build up if I'm spraying through about half the year.
Jordan Sorrick yeah you probably shouldn’t have too much of a problem with insect resistance but you could alternate apps of Bifenthrin and deltamethrin if you wanted to. If you have a very heavy infestation of mosquitoes or you have heavy woods or ponds near your house you can look into using insect growth regulators and larvacides. Domyown.com has some kits available with most of the products you would need. www.domyown.com/mosquito-control-kit-heavy-population-p-14629.html for deltamethrin look at a product called suspend sc. it’s also great for indoor pesticide apps.
Sorry, I didn't see this comment earlier. Here's the sprayer from Harbor Freight that I use. www.harborfreight.com/4-gallon-backpack-sprayer-63092.html?_br_psugg_q=4+gallon+sprayer I added this one and the Smith Contractor 2 gallon sprayer to the description in the video. Thanks!
Despite his lack of protective pants and shirt, and face mask, this is a good informational video. Pleasant music in the background and clear video of exactly how and where to spray. I just sprayed my own yard, trees and plants this way. I however used a product called “Suspend SC”.
Depends on the type of grass you have the amount you apply varies a bit. The spectracide herbicide is usually 4-6 ounces per gallon for northern cook season type grasses. Tenacity is anywhere from 2 teaspoons per gallon up to 5 teaspoons per gallon depending on if you’re applying to a specific grass type or if you’re targeting a specific type of weed. But for general use just use the syringe it comes with it had markings on it that will help you measure precisely. Hope that helps answer your questions. Thanks for watching!
Jacob Morales the nozzle actually came in the box with the harbor freight sprayer that I bought believe it or not! It came with like 5 different tips which is surprising considering how cheap the sprayer was to begin with! I did a review here ua-cam.com/video/KJI1G4bBATg/v-deo.html
I don't think it's labeled for fleas specifically but you can check the domyown website search for flea control from their website. They might have a specialized product.
About every 30 days. Depending on if it’s been a dry season like this year I might only spray every 60 days but the residual for Bifen is 30 days between applications. I only sprayed once in may and again last week because we haven’t had a lot of rain this year so the mosquitoes haven’t been too bad this year.
BEGA'S PR yep, totally safe for pets and kids once it’s dry. Just keep them out of the application area while it’s wet. Read the product label for more safety info. It says on the back to wait 2 hours before re-entering the area. I have kids and dogs running around the yard all the time so it’s safe!
Lol I try to avoid some of that when I can 😁. Once it’s completely dry it’s totally safe for pets and kids. Been using this in the yard for years and my dogs are 12 and 13 lol so it doesn’t seem to be any problems for them at least. And yeah Windows do get some streaks but that can be avoided by using the pin point stream on the sprayer and just hitting the edges.
Felix Ramos roaches it works for. Bifen IT is good with about 75 different pests. It’s a very general broad application for control of a lot of stuff check out the product label for the complete list of insects controlled. It’s a very versatile product! Domyown.com has a lot of resources check them out here you can find the product label pdf. www.domyown.com/bifen-it-p-226.html
tomasito12211984 yes I have two dogs as well. Keep pets and children outside of the application area until the product is fully dry. It is pet safe usually after two hours or until it completely dries. I usually wait about 3 hours just to be safe but my dogs have not had any problems. As with anything read the label on the back on the bottle and follow all warnings. Hope that helps!
Hey, I bought bifen i/t and cutter.... I have a deck in backyard... do you recommend spraying deck down too for mosquito control or only grass areas and bushes/ shrubs? Also do you recommend mixing cutter with the bifen in my chemical sprayer or only use bifen alone in the sprayer at its recommended dose? Thankyou
Yes I spray the deck too, under the overhangs on the house, and even spray a perimeter around the house. Bifen targets more pests than just mosquitoes so it’s a good perimeter pest control application as well for ants, spiders, and other stuff too. The cutter probably has a different active ingredient. Look in the bottom corner of the bottle and see what the ingredients are. What you could do is apply them alternating every 30 days so you don’t build up a resistance to one of the chemicals. Chemical rotation is important. So every couple months or every other month I would rotate anyway. So that’s a good thing that you have the two products. So don’t apply them at the same time just wait 30 days and switch to the other one. Hope that helps!
Bifenthrin is NOT rated for use on edible plants. Check out domyown.com they have some products that are acceptable for use on crops and edible plants though.
first last yep, Bifenthrin is safe for anything that is NOT edible. Totally harmless to plants, trees, grass. Always read the label to confirm if everything is safe for your particular application site though just to double check but I’ve never had any problems killing plants or anything like that.
@@joe3055 yes that’s a good point. There’s a couple of flower bushes that I don’t spray this on for that reason, but generally we don’t really have a huge honey bee population around here, not unless you go a couple miles down the road to the more heavily wooded areas, so for me I’m concerned with wasps that make it very unpleasant to be in the backyard for the kids so I spray where we hang out a lot. My friend who has bee hives a few miles down the road he doesn’t use chemicals like this for obvious reasons, because he’s farming honey.
Ozcan Dogan for me, typically it’s less than a day. Results are pretty fast at least for the mosquito numbers that I’ve seen. But typically you get about 90% reduction after 48 hours. Doesn’t keep all of them away, but it seriously helps a lot this time of year with all the rain, I can finally enjoy my back yard again!
Alan Hunter I always wear gloves, eye protection, and shoes as a bare minimum. Good advice, and if I was spraying this indoors in an enclosed area a respirator might be recommended ppe as well. I try to stay up wind when I spray so it doesn’t blow back on me as well, so just being aware of the environment you are in and reading the label on products for what the manufacturers recommend is something I push in a lot of my videos. Thanks for watching and commenting!
DIY Dad insecticides are a lot safer today for both humans and the environment than a few decades ago. But it’s always good to minimize exposure as much as humanly possible. Great video and techniques. I’d only recommend wearing long pants. I often get hit on the legs
Should be safe for flowers I spray all the flowers and shrubs in my front yard just don’t use it on anything edible in your garden that’s all. It’s not approved for agricultural use. But otherwise it’s safe and shouldn’t harm the plants. I have Kentucky bluegrass in the front yard and a typical cool season grass mix in the back yard with fescue in the back yard. Thanks for watching!
I would avoid spraying on flowering plants directly to avoid killing your bee population. For one it’s typically illegal to kill honey bees, and honey bees are actually very beneficial.
@@tanker242 that’s a good point to be aware of thanks for mentioning that. We actually don’t have a honey bee population at all around here so I don’t worry about it too much. My friend’s place about 20 miles away has hives and absolutely no pesticides there for that reason.
@@kittykatxox845 oh really? I must have missed that. Interesting. I’ll have to recheck the label. Domyown.com has the latest version of the label saved as a pdf on their website for these products I’ll have to check it out thanks for the info.

@@DIYDad1 with your 4gal, do you actually use all of it or end up having leftovers? I dont have a crazy back/front yard. But definitely dont wanna repeat the filling process. Also curious how you clean it if there are alot of mixes remaining - any proper cleaning tips?
@@Ricebow11 I have it figured out pretty close with how much mix I need to make to cover my front and back yard, it takes a little bit of practice with the sprayer to know how fast to walk and how much to spray over a given area. Typically these sprayers are calibrated for 1 gallon per 1,000 square feet. I have a video on how to use a sprayer properly check that video out it might help. ua-cam.com/video/s54_zxVkhow/v-deo.html How large of a yard do you have? I would recommend starting at 1 gallon mix per 1,000 sq ft just as a general rule for a starting point. You can mix each gallon 1/2 ounce or up to an ounce per gallon of water. If there's a significant amount of product left over after spraying you can empty it into a sealed container (just make sure it's properly labeled so you don't forget what it is!) and it should be good until you have to apply 30 days later and you can re-use it. If it's just a little bit left over I usually dump it into my flower beds in the mulch right along the foundation of my house since I keep a barrier application around my house as well, so you can do a band spray around your foundation as well.
Are you familiar with defense sc or suspense sc? I use it around / outside the house - ARound the foundations to rid bugs, ants, silverfish and etc... will this product, the bifen help with Insects for your home or is Bifen just to treat mosquitoes? Great video!! New subscriber.
Defense SC and Suspense SC are both great products, different modes of application. In fact, I believe those can also be used for mosquito control. Defense SC is deltamethrin. Suspend SC is the same ingredient as well just a different brand. I would actually alternate which product you use, as bugs can build up a tolerance to chemicals if used for extended periods of time. So maybe spray one type for a couple of months, then rotate to Bifenthrin for a couple months, and rotate back again. Same thing when using a fungicide on the lawn, lawn fungus can develop a resistance to chemical treatment when used repeatedly. So since you already have the other products, just use both. Just check the label and make sure you are applying at the suggested intervals. Hope that helps answer your question! Thanks for watching!
@@DIYDad1 awesome thanks so much! Last question, your 4 gallon sprayer, does it have all the nasal head or dual tip whatever you call it all together? And I assume it have lines for 1,2,3,4 gallons? Trying to avoid getting a separate 1 gallon and the backpack one that your using.
@@Ricebow11 the 4 gallon from HF comes with several different tips and they just unscrew easily so it’s pretty easy to swap out. And yes there are markings on the side so you’ll know exactly how much liquid you are filling.
@@Ricebow11 haha no worries, that’s what this channel is all about is to help people, so ask away! Following the label on the Bifen I/T they say to mix 1 ounce per gallon of water. I went through about 1 gallon per 1,000 square feet for a broadcast application. It takes me 4 gallons to spray a my 4,200 square foot back yard (give it take, it’s close enough). I usually have to mix up an additional 2 gallons that I use to spray the trees, under awnings, and shrubs so that usually is enough to cover most of my back yard and side yard so I do have to fill it up again half way a second time. Here’s the label for the insecticide if you want to read up on it pages 8-15 are the important bits www.domyown.com/msds/Bifen_IT_Label1.pdf
The chemical I use here in the video, Bifenthrin, is rated for non-porous hard surfaces inside only, and crack and crevice application. It can stain fabrics so be careful with application. It's great for around unfinished basements, window sills and door frames. Check out domyown.com they have a ton of guides and a lot of pest-specific information. There's several other chemicals that can safely be used indoors as well. I would start here and read the basics guide and reach out to their customer support if you have questions they are extremely helpful! www.domyown.com/integrated-pest-management-a-455.html
This will repel pollinators like bees and such, I haven't had had too large of a bee population in this entire town to be honest so it's not a huge concern where I live, however you can also be a little more selective with where you spray this and skip over plants you care about. Just spray in your most common outdoor living areas like around decks and patios and a good 3 foot radius around those areas and that alone will be a HUGE improvement with mosquitoes just with that.
Check your label again. The label suggest UP TO 1oz. per 4 gallons of water for 1000 square feet, which is basically the perimeter of an average sized home. You're basically using 4x what the label suggests.
So I did just check the label again and they recommend anywhere from .33 ounces to 1 ounce of bifin I/T to 127 ounces of water for crack and crevice and surface treatments. The number you are referring to is for termite mitigation and soil drenching and/or drenching soil around foundation both post and pre construction they recommend mixing 1 ounce to 4 gallons of water in a bucket per 10 linear feet per foot of depth of the trench, or 1 gallon per 1 cubic feet of soil. Page 11 and 12 of the pdf available on domyown.com. The usage rate I was looking at is a table on page 14 of the instructions. They also have a usage rate double that of 0.12% final mixed rate using 2 ounces of bifin to 1 gallon of water. The usage scenario I cover in the video is covered on page 27 of the pdf under "General surface application" usage rate of .33 to 1.0 fl oz per gallon of water.
@@DIYDad1 I guess you're right. Usually I don't see that kind of volume unless it's for indoor treatments. Talstar is the same way must be a bifenthrin thing. Might want to look into Cyzmic. It will go a lot further, and it's basically just a synthetic pyrethroid like Bifen is. These are the mixes for Cyzmic: 0.2 fl. oz. (6 mL)/gal. of water - 0.015% - light infestations, maintenance, general pest prevention 0.4 fl. oz. (12 mL)/gal. of water - 0.03% - most indoor applications, turf and ornamental pests 0.8 fl. oz. (24 mL)/gal. of water - 0.06% - Severe infestations, clean-out, tough pests like roaches, scorpions 1.5 - 5.0 fl. oz. per 100 gal. of water for Ornamental Pest applications 3.4-7 mL per 1,000 sq. ft. (5 - 10 fl. oz. per Acre) for Lawn and Turfgrass Pest applications
SheepAmongGoats yeah cyzmic is definitely a good one as well. I use it indoors because a little goes a long way but it’s more expensive. I stick with bifenthrin outdoors around the lawn for mosquitoes I usually only do 2-3 applications a year of the bifenthrin and then rotate a few other things later on in the year. Luckily we don’t get many bugs in the winter time because of the snow so the chances of insect resistance is lower overall just due to the low volumes I only spray 5-6 months a year for this area. Further south rotation of pesticides becomes much bigger importance that’s for sure. Thanks for the feedback! I could go way deeper in explaining this but then the video gets insanely long 😁
@@weshale51 I’ve had very good luck with it, been using it for a couple of years now. Same active ingredient in a lot of other products and professional products. What is it that has failed if you don’t mind me asking? Perhaps with mosquito control specifically, it can also be paired with an IGR to help control the lifecycle of the mosquito population as well and that has had great success. In fact, I called up a local lawn care company about what products they use and they Use Talstar P, exact same ingredients in fact as Bifen I/T this is just a different brand is all. Of course if you use it too much they could build up a resistance which could be what you’re experiencing. If that’s the case check out throwing ExciteR into the mix as well from time to time.
@@DIYDad1 I work in the professional pest control industry and have dealt with many active ingredients over my 26 years in the business and of all the things I have learned, the fact that bifenthrin is one of the least reliable active ingredients is an absolute. Especially when it comes to longevity of residual. As for its effect on mosquitos it’s even less reliable and your just as likely to be successful spraying plain old water. There is a reason it’s so cheap to buy.
Can you spray this on your whole lawn was going to get the 4 gallon tank to spray . Or best to spray around the house , I do patio area . Will spraying the whole lawn be a waste ?
I just do my back yard and around the front door and garage area where people spend the most time in the yard. You definitely could do the entire yard if you have a significant mosquito population or you really want to knock out as many mosquitos as possible. I just like to spray the most common areas where people spend the most time. We really only have bad mosquitoes for a couple months a year so I’ll typically spray June through august typically where I live here in the Midwest. But if you’re having a mosquito problem year round I’d also recommend rotating pesticides every couple of months so they bugs don’t build up a resistance to the chemicals. That’s a real problem in the south where people are spraying most of the year so make sure you take that into consideration if you’re doing more than a few apps per year. Hope that helps! @@DIYDad1 I don’t have any ponds just .50 of land . Woods across the road from so don’t know if there is a pond or not . But I might get maybe 2 or 3 chemicals and rotate them. Thanks for all the information
@@RaccoonFederation007 yeah I typically rotate two different formulas considering here in WI the mosquito season is pretty short so there’s a bit of variability there for everyone depending on the region and how bad the local mosquito population is, and local water sources. But sounds like you’ve got the right idea. Good luck! Hope the spraying goes well for you! Let me know how the results are, and thanks for watching!
Typically I get about 30 days of residual coverage outside, depending on precipitation sometimes longer, like along the foundation of my house where its drier. Initial application of the year I do full rate of 1 ounce per gallon, then back off to about 1/2 or 3/4 ounce per gallon mix rate and still get decent results, unless I need a faster knock-down for any issues that come up.
Yes, once the product is fully dry then it is pet safe. Pets and kids should stay out of the application area during spraying, once you spray just wait about 2-3 hours before entering the area that you sprayed but it’s safe once it’s dry to the surface. Been using this product for years myself and I have two kids and two dogs and never had problems. Just make sure you read the product label as follow directions. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYDad1 Yeah, but great content! I purchased the hose, the sprayer, and the Bifen. You're an influencer! So, one of the things about the battle against mosquitoes is that there's a distinction between killing lots of them, and getting bitten less. Obviously, we care more about getting bitten than we do about the number we kill. That's why the DYI traps with, say, alka-seltzer, don't work. Sure, they kill lots, but not enough to influence the number of bites you get. Have you personally witnessed a "before and after" with Bifen? And, I assume, if you grew tomatoes and vegetables, you would *not* spray then with Bifen? We've been using Neem oil for our veggies, and I plan on using Bifen for the rest of the backyard. Would you feel safe spraying it where your kids play?
@@dontwanttojoingoogle1799 hope all that stuff works out good for you! Bifen is totally safe for kids and pets once it’s completely dry. So just make sure everyone stays out of the application area when you are spraying and typically 1-2 hours after application or until the liquid you sprayed is completely dry then it’s totally safe. I have two dogs and two kids that play in the back yard all the time and haven’t had a problem. One dog is 13 years old and eats grass so I think she would have had an issue by now 😆. Neem oil absolutely is probably the best all natural organic pesticide for edible plants. I just got a bottle of it myself to try this year once my garden starts to come in I’ll be trying it out. So I’m excited to try a new product out this year. Bifenthrin totally helps with mosquitoes. If I let it go too long it gets really bad. Usually the first application I do right around now, since it’s still pretty cold out until June but the bugs are just starting to come out now so I’ll be spraying again soon for the first time this season. I’d say I usually notice a pretty big drop off of mosquitoes really fast, usually within the first 24 - 48 hours or so after application. If you have a really bad infestation you could try an insect growth regulator (IGR) which helps lower the future generations of mosquitoes and lowers the population over time. Just as long as you are rotating pesticides every few months or they tend to build up a tolerance to them over time. So I usually say if you’re applying 12 months out of the year in a warmer climate just rotate every month or two so they don’t lose efficacy. Anyway, hope that answers your questions. Don’t hesitate to reach out! Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@dontwanttojoingoogle1799 I have a new application method I’m going to be testing out soon. Had a company reach out to send me a fogger for testing. I’ll probably try and get that video posted in the next couple of weeks, I’ve never used a fogger before. But I’m looking forward to trying it! Should work great for getting into the trees and shrubs.
So Bif IT doesn't have a lot of fast knock-down power for an immediate kill unless you mix with another ingredient as a "kicker" but just alone it will kill them off as well as provide a barrier that when bugs cross that barrier or touch it they carry it off and it will kill the mosquitoes. According to the website, Bifen IT is a synthetic pyrethroid that works by disrupting an insect's nervous system causing a weakened state followed by death. It is a repellent as well since it acts quickly enough that social insects such as ants cannot create a pheromone trail. Pretty technical explanation but I hope that helps :) thanks for watching and commenting!
Dor Friedman oh yeah I’ve been using Bifenthrin for a couple years now this stuff is great at killing all sorts of pests in the lawn. Good stuff! If you have a serious infestation you can add in an insect growth regulator which helps control the mosquito population even further. 👍
Ana Forever31 some important safety information on the label packet, as well as more usage and mixing instructions for other insects that would make this video twice as long if I explained it all lol. Thanks for watching!
Do as I say not as I do lol. Yeah i know. I wear protective disposable gloves, long pants and shoes when I spray. I'm also conscience of wind direction so I dont get drift in my face. I figure, glasses and gloves at a bare minimum. I always wash my hands, arms, and face with soap when I'm done. Either way, I try not to bathe myself in it :P thanks for watching!
jeffreylc LOL right? I mean, it’s not like I’m bathing myself in it. Depends on what you are spraying and what the label tells you for protection. Sometimes gloves are just fine and I still wash my hands and face afterwards just in case something drifted into me. I’m not wearing a full suit when it’s 90 degrees out 😰
Yeah but what about all the wonderful insects you might be killing as well! What about bees and lady bugs. Does this kill them too? I love lizards and hummingbirds! They are big insect eaters, so if the bugs are sprayed with poison, then the beautiful ones die too!! Earthworms are also so important and will be killed if chemicals leach into the soil and of course eventually getting into the water. Spiders are predators who also eat the bad bugs. Highly intelligent and less than 30%, 10% of 1/10 have caused harm or death to humans, yet people are so deathly afraid of spiders. Predators come in small numbers where their prey are large in numbers. Few lions. Lots of gazelle or zebra or wildebeest, etc... Same with spiders. So predators are the important ones and shouldn't ever be destroyed because of there not being many to begin with. Spiders play a huge part in keeping the bug world in balance. Instead of killing them and making a disgusting mess on your shoe, grab a cup and place over the spider then gently slide a piece of paper, preferably paper that's thicker like a to go menu or a postcard, under the cup. Do it slow, so you don't hurt the legs and so it can have a chance to get on the paper. Put your hand under the paper as you're holding it flush to the cup. Keep hand flat keeping the cup covered. Take outside and toss under a bush or tree. Literally takes 2 minutes and so easy. Nature needs our help and protection which takes very little effort to do. Bees should never be harmed also or their hives destroyed. Ever. They are responsible for all vegetation and it's a myth that they're dangerous!! They won't hurt you unless you hurt them!! They have to protect themselves and their home just like anyone of us would. Respect them and all of nature and let them beeee. LoL. They deserve our consideration and concern. Insect sprays are so toxic and dangerous to everything. There are hundreds of simple solutions that can illiminate nasty pests just as easily as with deadly chemicals. That's why I so appreciate people who take the time like you guys to make their own combinations with natural and safer ingredients. You guys are the ones who are helping nature to have a healthier life so we can too. It's safer to go down the drain. Safer to breath and better for the environment. Put honey or syrup away from the house. Ants will take off for the sticky down the way. If you have a mouse in the house, look up a diy live mouse trap. It's just as easy as the alternative, except you toss away down the block or alley instead of in the trash. If you have aphids populating your favorite plants, get some ladybugs to take charge. They are natural aphid destroyers. Plus, they're good luck especially if they grace you with their presence and are just so cute to look at. Bees and ladybugs are on the decline as well as many other wonderful creatures, so we need to be careful and put a stop to chemicals. Thank you and for practicing greener and healthier living.
I agree with your sentiments, I only apply as needed and I like to do integrated pest management, which only targets specific pests that are a problem. I wish I had lizards here, I've only seen those in FL! But we do have a ton of hummingbirds, my wife loves them. We have probably 4 or 5 bird feeders, in fact our town is known as the bird capital of the state :D it's nice to have lots of wildlife here. Luckily at the lower application rates that I use these chemicals it hasn't harmed the earth worm population either, every time it rains I see tons of them popping up in the lawn and on the driveway, it's nice for healthy and balanced soil structure. I didn't dive into the details too much in this video for the sake of keeping the time down, but having proper insecticide application practices, pesticide rotation, and proper targeting, as well as treating the actual SOURCE of the problem are all paramount to proper treatment of pests in the lawn. The only reason I treat for mosquitoes here is because around here where I live they have very few natural predators that eat them so we have extremely high population of mosquitoes, and I'm mostly concerned about the health of my kids and dogs in the back yard, so treating mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas, I don't have to use tick and flea treatment with the dogs either which is nice. It helps prevent the spread of zika and other mosquito-borne illness, so like everything in life it's a balance that has to be taken into consideration. No need to go scorched earth or the nuclear option! Thanks for your thoughts.
If I remember I think the windows themselves were closed but several of the older windows have a second outer storm window that can be closed and I think those were what you saw were open, can’t remember when I made this video it’s entirely possible there was a window open lol. But that’s definitely good advice don’t want any overspray getting inside. Although it wouldn’t be too bad, this stuff is generally pretty safe and the label says it’s good for indoors in cracks and crevices so around window frames would be totally fine to help treat and prevent bugs from entering your house as well. I usually spray a perimeter around the windows and doors and foundation every 2 months or so.
Lorna Woessner oh did I have windows open I couldn’t tell lol. I did this video last year I can’t remember haha! If it gets on the window screens not a big deal just as long as it doesn’t land on anything in the house that I’ll eat 😜 but good point nonetheless.
That’s the worst application I’ve seen in a while, walking into the mist spraying around the kids toys, spraying areas that are touched, call a professional.
Yep absolutely, follow the ppe recommendations in all products that you use, do as I say not as I do lol. When it’s hot I cheat sometimes but yeah no excuse lol. This stuff I believe they recommend gloves, long pants and long sleeves. Mask is only required when spraying interior applications in an enclosed space according to the instructions. I usually shower after I’m done with an application like this just to wash any overspray off my skin. www.domyown.com/msds/Bifen_IT_Label1.pdf
guys like this give professionals like me who have been doing this for 5 years such a bad name.. you need so much more PPE then what your wearing. long sleeves, safety glasses, long unlined gloves.. and you need to be applying this stuff in the target areas BY LABEL.. NOT JUST ALL WILLY NILLY BECAUSE JOE BLOW AT HOME DEPOT WHO WORKS IN THE PC SECTION TOLD YOU!!!!!
Robert Craig I never claimed I’m a professional but thanks for the concern! Funny enough though my neighbor pays a company to spray their lawn and the guy who does it wears shorts and a cut off sleeve shirt when he does this. And he was using one of the backpack foggers! Arguably I wear more ppe than some of the so called “pros” wear 😁. But truth be told, the label for this stuff changes the ppe based on the application site for example indoors it’s different. I wear glasses too so that helps protect my eyes. Also I usually shower right after an application so anything that gets on my skin is washed off immediately after. If I’m going to be spraying yards all day long I’d for sure be wearing long sleeves and pants though and several changes of clothes throughout the day.
This video also illustrates what not to wear while spraying insecticides.
Ross Carpenter and if it gets really bad this year I was thinking about trying out an IGR.
I'm in the pest control industry now. A igr product like tekko combined with bad infestation works well
Ruel HINDS is “ bad infestation” a product or statement. Ty
Are those 2 products the very best pesticides???

Thank you for the nice video. But the music in the background is so loud.
Its meditational while you say goodbye to those blood suckers!
Bifen xts is double the price
XTS not recommended for mosquitoes, not necessary. Kind of overkill. Stick with I/T. Personally I like proflex.
@KrahDad What exactly is XTS recommended for and whats so good about Proflex??

@@kittykatxox845 good advice thanks for the feedback!
Is this product or any product with Bifenthrin available in Canada? We got mad mosquitos over here as well
I didn't know you had to shake the stuff vigorously. Can you mix it with a little bit of dish soap to try and slow down the settling ?
Thanks for sharing.. For how long will the application or repel effect last? how often do we need to re-apply?
Thanks again..
How long thw wait for the little ones to play in the backyard? When sprayed
It only really lasts a week in my opinion…need to add an IGR
Is this safe around children and animals? Also what about adding pivot 10 igr?
Jason it’s safe once fully dried. As long as animals and kids are not within the application site during application, I usually wait about 2-3 hours before re-entering the area then it is animal safe. I’ve been spraying this in my back yard for years and I have two dogs that eat grass and everything, they are perfectly fine after all these years and they are 11 and 10 years old!
thank you
Can I spray this after rainfall or before rainfall?
I would wait til after rain. Of you apply it too soon before a rain it could wash away reducing the amount of time that the chemical is active for. It will still be there in the soil and on plants but greatly diluted. Best to wait til after a rain and it will dry and stay there for longer. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYDad1 awesome thank you! You now have a new subscriber and thanks for the link for that website very useful too
Can this product be used in a ryobi electric fogger.
Yes absolutely! Same mixing strength 1 ounce per gallon. I actually just got a fogger I’m testing and I’ll be doing a video on soon!
@@DIYDad1 kool
Do you have to reapply if it rains
I'm dead set on killing them!
heel
How often would you recommend doing a spray ?
For mosquitoes and general applications I usually reapply every 30 days in the worst of the infestation in the summer months then back off to every 60 days this time of year when bugs aren't as bad. It's also a good idea to rotate pesticide use every few months so you aren't applying the exact same active ingredients every month so the insects don't build up a tolerance.
@@DIYDad1 Great, thank you. Nice property btw
@@TheDylan6908 glad to help! Thanks for watching!

That way insects don’t build resistance theres tons of different termiticides out there
Who did the fence work?
I did the fence all myself!
How often do you have to spray?

I just sprayed my own yard, trees and plants this way. I however used a product called “Suspend SC”.
The music is way too loud. Could you please put how much of each you add in the 4 gallon sprayer? Thanks
Where did you get the double tip nozzle?

I don't think it's labeled for fleas specifically but you can check the domyown website search for flea control from their website. They might have a specialized product.
How often do you spray?
About every 30 days. Depending on if it’s been a dry season like this year I might only spray every 60 days but the residual for Bifen is 30 days between applications. I only sprayed once in may and again last week because we haven’t had a lot of rain this year so the mosquitoes haven’t been too bad this year.
Is it safe for kids to step on it after a couple of hours?
BEGA'S PR yep, totally safe for pets and kids once it’s dry. Just keep them out of the application area while it’s wet. Read the product label for more safety info. It says on the back to wait 2 hours before re-entering the area. I have kids and dogs running around the yard all the time so it’s safe!
Thank you Sir. I really appreciate it.
BEGA'S PR my pleasure, that’s what this channel is here for! Good luck!
Great video but the music put me to sleep before I can get to the end.
Thanks for sharing
Did you spray the door knobs and your kids toys too? 😬 How spotty are your windows after it dries?
Lol I try to avoid some of that when I can 😁. Once it’s completely dry it’s totally safe for pets and kids. Been using this in the yard for years and my dogs are 12 and 13 lol so it doesn’t seem to be any problems for them at least. And yeah Windows do get some streaks but that can be avoided by using the pin point stream on the sprayer and just hitting the edges.
Music overwhelms your dialog
Will this work on water bugs/ roaches? Thx !

I have at dog. If I orden same product do you know if is not danger for my pet ? Thanks you if you respond my question
tomasito12211984 yes I have two dogs as well.
DIY Dad thank you very muchhhhhhhh
Does anyone know why the product can’t be used in ULV fogger
Which is the original brand?
Talstar P I believe is the original brand with the same ingredient.
Half to one ounce per gallon huh, that stuff must be super concentrated,im going to try it....
That's really all you need for the proper dilution! Thanks for watching!
Will this poison my garden veggies?
Bifenthrin is NOT rated for use on edible plants. Check out domyown.com they have some products that are acceptable for use on crops and edible plants though.
i see you sprayed this on bushes, but is it safe for flower beds?
first last yep, Bifenthrin is safe for anything that is NOT edible.
How soon you start to see the benefits of mosquito control?
Ozcan Dogan for me, typically it’s less than a day. Results are pretty fast at least for the mosquito numbers that I’ve seen. But typically you get about 90% reduction after 48 hours. Doesn’t keep all of them away, but it seriously helps a lot this time of year with all the rain, I can finally enjoy my back yard again!
You've got kids mate... Wear proper protective equipment so you get to see them grow up. Where is your resporator and arm/leg protection.

Minimum long sleeve and long pants
Can you spray this on flowers? Also what type of grass do you have ? Looks nice
@@DIYDad1 The label literally says it’s illegal to use it on flowers just an FYI.

Pay for a 4gal. I cheaped out on a 1 gal and had to fill it 8 times to do our small yard.
Oh yeah I love my 4 gallon backpack sprayer. Makes a huge difference and saves a ton of time. Spoiler alert, I’ll be testing a new 6 gallon sprayer on my channel soon!
I have a video on how to use a sprayer properly check that video out it might help. ua-cam.com/video/s54_zxVkhow/v-deo.html
How large of a yard do you have?
@@DIYDad1 thanks so much, last question I promise. Maybe I missed it but can you shared how much water or gallon you used? Was is the whole 4 gallons?
Can you spray this throughout the interior of your home?
The chemical I use here in the video, Bifenthrin, is rated for non-porous hard surfaces inside only, and crack and crevice application. It can stain fabrics so be careful with application. It's great for around unfinished basements, window sills and door frames. Check out domyown.com they have a ton of guides and a lot of pest-specific information. There's several other chemicals that can safely be used indoors as well. I would start here and read the basics guide and reach out to their customer support if you have questions they are extremely helpful! www.domyown.com/integrated-pest-management-a-455.html
@@DIYDad1 I'm pretty sure they were referring to the open windows. But it went right over, didnt it.
Lorna Woessner right. You can spray in cracks and crevices as well so if it gets in the window sills it’s alright.
I have No lawn and the mosquitos are awful. Am am concerned about pollinators and my pets (&me) using this.
@@DIYDad1
I guess you're right. Usually I don't see that kind of volume unless it's for indoor treatments. Talstar is the same way must be a bifenthrin thing. Might want to look into Cyzmic. It will go a lot further, and it's basically just a synthetic pyrethroid like Bifen is. These are the mixes for Cyzmic:
0.2 fl. oz. (6 mL)/gal. of water - 0.015% - light infestations, maintenance, general pest prevention
0.4 fl. oz. (12 mL)/gal. of water - 0.03% - most indoor applications, turf and ornamental pests
0.8 fl. oz. (24 mL)/gal. of water - 0.06% - Severe infestations, clean-out, tough pests like roaches, scorpions
1.5 - 5.0 fl. oz. per 100 gal. of water for Ornamental Pest applications
3.4-7 mL per 1,000 sq. ft. (5 - 10 fl. oz. per Acre) for Lawn and Turfgrass Pest applications

Bifen for mosquitoes is as poor a product as you can buy
Beware with Bifen! You er what you pay for
@@weshale51 I’ve had very good luck with it, been using it for a couple of years now.

I work in the professional pest control industry and have dealt with many active ingredients over my 26 years in the business and of all the things I have learned, the fact that bifenthrin is one of the least reliable active ingredients is an absolute. Especially when it comes to longevity of residual. As for its effect on mosquitos it’s even less reliable and your just as likely to be successful spraying plain old water. There is a reason it’s so cheap to buy.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for posting it.
Glad you found this video helpful! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!

@@RaccoonFederation007 yeah I typically rotate two different formulas considering here in WI the mosquito season is pretty short so there’s a bit of variability there for everyone depending on the region and how bad the local mosquito population is, and local water sources. How long would this give you coverage? I have used it indoors in the past for centipede control. Never used it outside! Now I know. LoL

@@DIYDad1 Very awesome. Thank you!

Should work great for getting into the trees and shrubs.
Okay so does this method kill the mosquitoes or does it just keep them away just a curious question

Thank you and for practicing greener and healthier living.
dude, no music, wtf was that, wait don't tell me, just don't play anything.
Please MUST wear gas mask and goggle, not using short, then must using pants, or full coat before filling chemical then using spraying, PPE
You should of definitely closed all your windows.
Close house Windows first!
Also...for the video you should be wearing long pants and sleeves,mask...no.?
Yep absolutely, follow the ppe recommendations in all products that you use, do as I say not as I do lol. When it’s hot I cheat sometimes but yeah no excuse lol. This stuff I believe they recommend gloves, long pants and long sleeves. Mask is only required when spraying interior applications in an enclosed space according to the instructions. I usually shower after I’m done with an application like this just to wash any overspray off my skin. www.domyown.com/msds/Bifen_IT_Label1.pdf
Pants, long sleeves and a mask. Slow down, that was poor coverag.
guys like this give professionals like me who have been doing this for 5 years such a bad name.. you need so much more PPE then what your wearing. long sleeves, safety glasses, long unlined gloves.. and you need to be applying this stuff in the target areas BY LABEL..
If I’m going to be spraying yards all day long I’d for sure be wearing long sleeves and pants though and several changes of clothes throughout the day.
get some proper gloves and a pair of pants please. long sleeves facemask and hat also good idea.
Oh man, for a fracking youtube video you reduced your expire time, so sad.
safety glasses how about a mask at least
Can u say OVERKILL!!
Lithium Lounge hey when the mosquitoes are biting you like mad, just be glad I didn’t break out the flame thrower 😂
