DIY INSECT KILLER FOR YOUR LAWN | BEST Lawn BUG Killer | BIFEN IT

  • Today's video will cover how I control insects in my lawn. I like to practice DIY pest control because it's much cheaper and can be just as effective as hiring a pest control service. The product I'm using in today's video is called Bifen IT. Bifen controls over 75 different insects including ants, mosquitoes, and fleas. It's important that you rotate between insecticides because if you treat with one product over the course of several generations of insects, they can develop a resistance to your products. The other product I use is called Permethrin. Make sure you always put down at least 1/2 of water after you make your applications.
    NOTE: It was brought to my attention that it would be even more beneficial to rotate modes of action on your insecticides as opposed to just active ingredients. With that being said, I suggest using Dominion as your secondary product. Link is below. Thanks for watching!

      yes switching IRAC or group number is important. you can even combine 2 IRAC groups but the rate needs to be adjusted lower with each chemical.

    There is no pharmacological difference between Bifenthrin and Permethrin. Both are pyrethroids so insect resistance to one will offer them the same resistance to the other. Permethrin is a very old and over used chemical so if bugs are resistant they are likely resistant to permethrin. Bifen is better for lawns because of its extended residual. It is not really water soluble and remains bound to soil longer. Permethrin works well for misting it is very effective for flying insects. I have also found it works well indoors especially in coat closets. It provides year round protection against clothes moths. A good insecticide combo to alternate with on lawns is Bifen IT and acelepryn or Bifen IT and imidacloprid.

      @@LawnInsider nice. My dad went there years ago. R. G. LeTourneau was actually a hell of an innovator, but doesn't get a lot of mention in the history books like Edison and some of those other guys. My grandfather knew him, only reason I know about him. He was actually 3D printing houses back in (I think) the 50s or 60s, with a cement machine, kinda like what they're doing in Austin now. But they weren't real nice back then so they didn't sell well. I think he built them for rentals. Pretty sure some of them are still standing in Longview.

    I'm reading so much conflicting information about watering-in the Bifen after application, some say it should not be applied if rain is forecast within 2-3 hours as it needs time to dry and bind to the grass.... do you have a reliable source (like maybe from the manufacturer) that says it must be watered in immediately after application as I can not seem to find that information in the instruction leaflet that came with the product... I am applying it to control Chinch bugs
    Thanks for any more detailed information you can share
    Cheers

    • @LawnInsider
      @LawnInsider  3 роки тому +2

      From the label:
      Lawns
      Use Bifen I/T as a broadcast treatment. To accomplish uniform control when applying to dense grass foliage, use volumes of up to 10 gallons per 1000 square feet. To ensure control of sub-surface pests including Mole Crickets using low volume treatments, (i.e. less than 2 gallons per 1000 square feet), immediately follow the treatment with irrigation of the treated area with at least 0.25 inches of water.

      @@LawnInsider Thanks very much for your prompt reply, I actually read that as well but it doesn't seem to apply to me as I am not applying it to "dense grass foilage" but rather on a well manicured lawn of Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass cut to about 3"... I am applying the Bifen at a rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water over 1000 SQ Ft as per their instructions for chinch bugs.
      I find the instruction somewhat confusing... like what exactly do they mean by "dense grass foilage".... is a well manicure lawn considered "dense grass foilage" and why do the same instructions say to apply at a rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water over 1000 SQ ft for chinch bugs

    Hi, I sprayed my yard and house all over with bifen.... I sprayed the patio light right outside my door..... so far so good with mosquitos and keeping bugs out, but tonight, 6 days after spraying (no rain for 48 hours after I sprayed) when I was out at night with patio light on, the flies were BAD right at the light... swarming the light.... I sprayed the light and surrounding part of the house by the light... this was the 1st time since I sprayed that I went outside with patio light on..... will the flies that kept hitting the light eventually die off from the residual of the bifen it (7.9%) or is bifen just not effective for flies that are attracted to the light?

    • @LawnInsider
      @LawnInsider  3 роки тому

      Hey Bifen does kill flies, so if they made/make contact with the Bifen they will die. It’s trickier with flying bugs because they’re not necessarily making contact with our applications and they can just fly in wherever/whenever they want. Flies have been bad this year around here. If it becomes a real nuisance you may want to consider using a Dynatrap and staking it as far as you can from your back porch area as you can.
