    It doesnt take a genious to see where this is going, forcing good workers out just to retain slime balls, as they ride on our work...mgt could care less about the customer, just the carriers care & mgt is doing their best to force carriers out before retirement. When dropped my papers, PM promised me a lot to stay 1 more year, said no & 1 week before retirement the PM xferred to another Post Office so was just smoke up my ass. 10yrs in my high 3 is close to 10k....combined with mil ret & 2 SS cks we do fine. BTW politics are a major reason the post office is so fucked up & you know it. Love what you do J and do know political statements get you cancelled. With those limittations you do a wonderfull job. Thanx

    My stepmom is a 30 yr clerk. She said she's taking the buyout, because she'll make more money between social security & her pension, than she would staying at the post office.

    They need to get rid of alot of management. We are too top heavy as a company. supervisors, managers, post masters, pooms,, district manager, area manager and the list goes on. Just ridiculous.

    • @derektoussaint1538
      @derektoussaint1538 21 день тому +6

      Definitely too top heavy. Too micromanaged. Station manager and zone managers have no authority to make decisions about anything that goes on at their station. Not enough clerks or truck drivers if you ask me. 20 years of seeing inspections teams, area manager walk throughs and other operations inspectors come around and it gets progressively worse. Makes absolutely zero sense.

I love my college educated folks because they are so easily can be in the unemployment office. Do not let this deter you from choosing another career path. I remember hearing about this when I was in high school back in the 1980’s schools across the different states taken trade classes out of high schools in the 1970s where kids did not have any other options but go to college if they can afford it.

    My opinion, they’re not going to fill those positions, just put more work on the ones that still there. This is something the big corporations have been doing for a while. They gonna keep chiseling away at our contracts untill we have no protections.
    And how about cut back on some of those fing supervisors. Everyone needs to wake up, we have to get new like minded people in our unions.

      The payout amount should definitely be higher if they get to the carriers. I mean if you look at the top pay is around 36k more then starting pay. So in one year the post office saves 36k per carrier replaced.

      @@derekrice5203 They will never do it for the carriers. The last time they did this in the early 2000s over 25% left and it hurt. They can't afford to get rid of us. We are the postal service. City carriers can run any route, city or rural. They can throw packages. They can do practically everything in the post office, but the other crafts cannot do what we do. This makes us more valuable and worth a whole lot more than 1.1%

    A sneaky way - a prelude to 'privatization '. I bet the strategy is to reduce the # of salaried workers that remain then get contractors to bid on bringing 'their' crews in to do the work. Contractors who bid the lowest price to provide their manpower win the bids ( they pay their crews minimum wage). By paying contractors a flat contract amount , the post office reduces and gains full control of their wage budget. 😢. Also, might give them means to abolish or decertify labor unions -- because not enough salaried employees in membership, and no obligation to negotiate union contracts

How much sick leave can you burn up use it to lose it. Annual leave. Short and/or long term disability. Social Security. Military and/or disability. I took the last 15k buyout for clerks and never looked back. Used up my sick leave, had used up my annual leave and was receiving short term disability later for 4 yrs. Long term disability. Back in 80's they were like, hey all these ppl making 6 figures are retiring, let's encourage and then save money by hiring young ppl at lower wages where everybody is the same at same rate. That's when merit raises ended.

    Horrible changes that makes your job more difficult is the true motivator for getting older vets to leave their job early. Not a cheap bribe. More people would opt to early retire if they were forced to commute and relocate to those stupid super centers lol.
    I'm willing to bet a lot of older craft employees are doing well contributing to their TSP's. 15k doesn't sweeten the pot. For most senior employees, that'll probably be the equivalent of 2 or 3 months of TSP gains for them.
    People, especially carriers WANT to retire early. Do you know why most don't? It's not because "If only I had 15k then I'd be outta here! I'd show them!!!" No. It's because they've come too far to duck out now and not get that pension and medicare benefits. Maybe even that 1% bonus match. 15k doesn't buy that kind of security. And of course being of age to collect social is a huge part of it too.

    This company is backwards. The carriers make the least. UPS the clerks make $12/hr and carriers make $49/hr. Think about the clerk in my 1800 person town making $40/hr to scroll on FB all day while the RCA makes $20/hr or the carriers start at $25/hr and get 50 cent raises every step.

      Bingo ! I always thought that. For the money they make more things need to be done. If they are already scanning the packages they should also be putting the sequence and section number on these as well (just like Fed Ex, Amazon, UPS) that would help us carriers out so much

    Unfortunately, the buyout is not offered to letter carriers because management would have numerous vacancies and difficulties filling the positions with able and willing employees. Letter carriers who have been fully vested into their retirement would take the measly $15,000 (minus 20% taxes and other fees to hopefully clear at least 10k-11k) and run. There are T-7 clerks making top tier pay with over 45 years of service. Not sure they would take the bait. Clerks, mail handlers and other employees affiliated with the APWU have been making loads of overtime hours while management is constantly limiting overtime hours, and harassing letter carriers that are working hard everyday risking their lives in today’s unsafe work environments. The NALC should follow APWU’s lead by working hard to improve workplace safety and conditions for letter carriers. And to add insult to injury, there is still no new NALC contractual agreement for letter carriers. SMH
