I think it’s because she killed Deliah and basically ruined Ellie’s life for no reason. It was pretty unnecessary really and he always justifies to himself why killing people was “necessary or had to be done”.

To be honest, I’m not fully convinced that Joe letting Will go wasn’t a delusion which will be revealed in a later series. His video call with Will was a bit weird and like a fantasy (Will telling Joe what he needed to hear)... Then again, Will seems to have had a shady past too, so isn’t necessarily going to be fully in touch with reality and morals.

I couldn’t agree more. One thing that bugged me (which I haven’t seen anyone else mention, so maybe it’s just me?)...is the choice of actor to play Joe as a teen, when he would get locked in the box by Mr. Mooney. They didn’t even try to get someone who resembled Joe. Such lazy casting. It’s not a big role, or all that important, or challenging...so why give it to someone who literally only had the same hair color. I found this incredibly distracting. They should hire whoever cast the music video “Unsteady” by X Ambassadors...now there’s an example of how it’s done.

The fact that Joe became so uninterested in Love once he realized she was as fucked up as him spoke volumes to me. He want control and fantasy, he didn’t wanted “real love”, or better said: he doesn’t know what love actually is.

I think it was to do with the timing. Joe was in the box and for the first time stopped lying to everyone and most of all stopped lying to himself. The whole show he’s lied to himself to justify his actions but at this moment he realises how truly fucked up he is and he hates it. And then love shows up and reveals that she is also fucking crazy. Joe can now see how truly crazy it is. I think season 3 she’s going to be the crazy one that joe has to escape
Joe can’t love Love anymore because she is not “good”. The whole point of him finding love was to become good just like the “pure” girl he would fall in love with and he sees that Love is NOT good, she is twisted just like him.
No, he doesn't like "good" girls. He loves damsels in distress because his mother was a damsel that was always being abused. Beck and Candace were bad girls too. Beck was having affairs with random guys and married men and professors. She was far from pure and good. Candace had a record. Love is a psychopath but a problem solver, never in need of a man to save her. She saves men such as her brother and Joe.

It's the fact that Love knows and accepts who she is and what she's done (which is scary in this context), whereas Joe tries to change and become a "better" person (though not really, he is just deluding himself). Love accepts her dark side and wants someone like her - which is also a bit scary because she is content with what she's done and who she is and wants the same darkness in a partner; Joe hates and is disgusted by his dark side (which is why he is disgusted with Love when he finds out she is just like him - the only difference is that Love CAN accept and love a psycho, Joe can't - because he lives in a fantasy where he imagines this perfect partner that does not exist). Joe's inner monologue might also make him SEEM less scary than Love to the viewer. Objectively they're both scary psychos though :)
I think in a way that makes Joe the blind one. Love knows he is the same as her, which is why she still loves him. Joe is still under the delusion that he isn't a monster, and all he has done is justified. He sees Love as crazy, but not himself.

It makes sense to me. Love has become just like Joe. Joe hates himself. He would have killed Love had it not been for their child. Joe wants someone who's innocent and not like him.
I don’t think it was a pointless moment though. In a way Joe is tortured by his actions (mental illness). When he threw his key out of the cage I think that showed that he did feel guilt in the moment because he thought he killed Delilah and felt that he should be punished.

Nimbus Tbh I kinda saw it coming. The whole way she introduced herself was a red flag for me. Almost just like Joe. The show did make me think that wasn’t going to happen whatsoever though, so when it did I was still shocked.

@@TheCommun3 Yeah and I think part of that was because her actions led to a child getting hurt in the process and because she pretended to be someone she wasn't and someone who Joe loved but after she took off her mask it became wholly apparent to Joe that what he himself did was wrong.
Joe doesn’t love Love in the end because of two things. One he wants a more ethereal woman. Remember he tells Love his mother was a saint. Although we know that to be false. He really wants the wholesome girl next door type lady. This goes with point two. He wants a woman who loves him because he is a good man. This is what he wants because his mother told him he is good. That he just did a bad thing. She justifies his actions by making it seem like a necessity. You see these thoughts are echoed in both seasons. He can’t love Love because she loves the dark him. The person he is trying not to be. So they are not soulmates but personalities are compatible. It’s not a good fit for Joe because he lives mostly in an altered reality where his actions are minimized and he doesn’t accept ownership of his actions. But the big part is that these type of killers tend to have an order or code which they live by. Her killing Delilah went against his code and made Ellie a target. He doesn’t believe in putting children in danger. He understood that Love’s code is to protect the ones she loves. This meant that Ellie could become a target. Although they are essentially killing for the same reasons they just have different train of thoughts to get there.
And also the scene where he wears a mask and takes it off after Henderson told him that they're the same. Represents joes mask slipping off and seeing his real self. The mask "fell off".

Which is the ultimate irony. Candace was right, he did see who he really was, in Love. And he was scared of her. And STILL he doesn't connect the fact that he is JUST like her. It kills me, lol.
I believe that Joe has never truly loved a woman as he's never been truly, unconditionally loved by another in his lifetime. Most ppl would recover from a childhood like his but he is also clinically insane. I wonder if the show will eventually come to a close with him behind bars? Will all of his past crimes come to light? Will he be murdered? Will he just keep going until he's too old to hold captives and kill? This show is wonderful, I love it. I binged season 2 in a weekend lol. I can't wait for more and I'm gonna read the books in the meantime. It would be cool if the writer also released Beck's book for a deeper dive into her perspective and the story in general. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is seeing women gush over the character in a romantic sense. It’s just beyond me how psychotic Love is and yet when she smiled in that last scene when she was on the porch you would NEVER think she’s crazy or a murderer. Like AT ALL! With joe it’s kinda there in the eyes and just his face but with her it’s a complete 180 from the first scene we see her in. She just looks like your average LA chick who dresses like a prairie girl and is into those natural food, non-GMO markets (I forget the name). Then when she cries, you start to see a bit of a scary side. She just looks like she could hurt you when she’s sad. And then when she kills Candace she looks terrifying and then she goes to Joe and cries and you’re just left staring at your screen like what the actual fuck. And then she wants to smile at the wedding like she’s normal. Idk she played her role really well. Best season out of the two.
Am I the only one who actually sympathized with Candace in season 2? I mean you've got a girl who nearly got killed by some crazy psycho and after being told by the police that there is nothing she can do she doesn't lay low in fear for the rest of her life but tracks that mofo down and tries to catch him in the act because he knows that he'll trip up. She wasn't sneaky about it either and boldly told her almost killer to his face that she's not afraid of him and is determined to bring him to justice. But of course she slipped up in the end and got herself killed. Instead of calling the police she called Love when finally caught him with a dead body and had him trapped in his own cage. Like whyyyyyy?

The “neighbor” is NOT another romantic interest and here's why. It’s because of that bubbly song played every time Joe meets a woman he’s attracted to. That soundtrack when he met Beck, when Candace re-entered the library and when he met Love. That sound missed when he saw the neighbor. 100% not a love interest.
But if u listen real closely, u can hear a bell ring as he approaches the neighbor, just like the bell from Mooney's when Beck first walked in, and when Candace re-entered it
My theory: Joe is in prison and is writing (or wrote) a memoir simply because he’s narrating. He’s lived in the moment and is just giving us his POV of what went down. Just a thought .

Honestly I’m glad they didn’t make joe finally have his “perfect family”, we all clearly see that after Love revealed her true self, joe could no longer feel love towards her, as he compares it to his punishment being stuck now with Love. Plus, with his savior complex and underlying needs for true and REAL lasting love, it makes sense that with his ill mind that he’d continue to search for someone to truly fill that gap. It’s interesting though, as I read the comments, a lot of people are saying it looks to be a older woman, either saying it’s his mom (which I find hard to believe) or just someone new, and I think the idea of an older woman is a very interesting take and idea that I hope follows into season 3.
Nora H the love he’s looking for is from his mother, that’s probably why those flashbacks. The mother kept putting herself over him and never really loved cause if she did, he would’ve been different & she would’ve never left him in the all boys house.

I obviously knew he wasn't well, but the show makes you root for Joe since he is the protagonist. So, it made me believe that all Joe wants is to find real true love, and someone who really understands him. Even the dark parts. But after seeing the last scene of season 2 I realized that Joe doesn't want real love, he's just in love with the idea of true love. And the fantasies of how he thinks the women he's attractive to should be.
Watch Bates Motel. I feel like they steal some things from that show. Also Lucifer is the best show on Netflix. It's the only show I've watched straight through twice.

I think it was to do with the timing. Joe was in the box and for the first time stopped lying to everyone and most of all stopped lying to himself. The whole show he’s lied to himself to justify his actions but at this moment he realises how truly fucked up he is and he hates it. And then love shows up and reveals that she is also fucking crazy. Joe can now see how truly crazy it is. I think season 3 she’s going to be the crazy one that joe has to escape

It's the fact that Love knows and accepts who she is and what she's done (which is scary in this context), whereas Joe tries to change and become a "better" person (though not really, he is just deluding himself). Love accepts her dark side and wants someone like her - which is also a bit scary because she is content with what she's done and who she is and wants the same darkness in a partner; Joe hates and is disgusted by his dark side (which is why he is disgusted with Love when he finds out she is just like him - the only difference is that Love CAN accept and love a psycho, Joe can't - because he lives in a fantasy where he imagines this perfect partner that does not exist). Joe's inner monologue might also make him SEEM less scary than Love to the viewer. Objectively they're both scary psychos though :)
I think in a way that makes Joe the blind one. Love knows he is the same as her, which is why she still loves him. Joe is still under the delusion that he isn't a monster, and all he has done is justified. He sees Love as crazy, but not himself.

The show is about the mental process behind his actions. He lies to himself about who he is. And when he came to realize how disgusting some of his actions were he accepted that he deserved to be locked up until realizing Love is equally as crazy and pregnant. I find it really sad cause he was in his right mind for a minute and he knew he was pretty much a monster showing he does have morality and doesn’t want to be a monster. Then Love convinces him he did nothing wrong. Ironically he was disgusted by Loves action when he had done the same but he acknowledges his hypocrisy as well. Joe doesn’t love Love in the end because of two things. One he wants a more ethereal woman. Remember he tells Love his mother was a saint. Although we know that to be false. He really wants the wholesome girl next door type lady. This goes with point two. He wants a woman who loves him because he is a good man. This is what he wants because his mother told him he is good. That he just did a bad thing. She justifies his actions by making it seem like a necessity. You see these thoughts are echoed in both seasons. He can’t love Love because she loves the dark him. The person he is trying not to be. So they are not soulmates but personalities are compatible. It’s not a good fit for Joe because he lives mostly in an altered reality where his actions are minimized and he doesn’t accept ownership of his actions.
But the big part is that these type of killers tend to have an order or code which they live by. Her killing Delilah went against his code and made Ellie a target. He doesn’t believe in putting children in danger. He understood that Love’s code is to protect the ones she loves. This meant that Ellie could become a target. Although they are essentially killing for the same reasons they just have different train of thoughts to get there.

I believe that Joe has never truly loved a woman as he's never been truly, unconditionally loved by another in his lifetime. Most ppl would recover from a childhood like his but he is also clinically insane. I wonder if the show will eventually come to a close with him behind bars? Will all of his past crimes come to light? Will he be murdered? Will he just keep going until he's too old to hold captives and kill? This show is wonderful, I love it. I binged season 2 in a weekend lol. I can't wait for more and I'm gonna read the books in the meantime. It would be cool if the writer also released Beck's book for a deeper dive into her perspective and the story in general. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is seeing women gush over the character in a romantic sense. Joe is the kind of guy we should avoid at all costs, keeping in mind that we can't fix anyone but ourselves.

It’s just beyond me how psychotic Love is and yet when she smiled in that last scene when she was on the porch you would NEVER think she’s crazy or a murderer. Like AT ALL! With joe it’s kinda there in the eyes and just his face but with her it’s a complete 180 from the first scene we see her in. She just looks like your average LA chick who dresses like a prairie girl and is into those natural food, non-GMO markets (I forget the name). Then when she cries, you start to see a bit of a scary side. She just looks like she could hurt you when she’s sad. And then when she kills Candace she looks terrifying and then she goes to Joe and cries and you’re just left staring at your screen like what the actual fuck. And then she wants to smile at the wedding like she’s normal. Idk she played her role really well. Best season out of the two.

Am I the only one who actually sympathized with Candace in season 2? I mean you've got a girl who nearly got killed by some crazy psycho and after being told by the police that there is nothing she can do she doesn't lay low in fear for the rest of her life but tracks that mofo down and tries to catch him in the act because he knows that he'll trip up. She wasn't sneaky about it either and boldly told her almost killer to his face that she's not afraid of him and is determined to bring him to justice. But of course she slipped up in the end and got herself killed. Instead of calling the police she called Love when finally caught him with a dead body and had him trapped in his own cage. Like whyyyyyy?

The “neighbor” is NOT another romantic interest and here's why. It’s because of that bubbly song played every time Joe meets a woman he’s attracted to. That soundtrack when he met Beck, when Candace re-entered the library and when he met Love. That sound missed when he saw the neighbor. 100% not a love interest.
But if u listen real closely, u can hear a bell ring as he approaches the neighbor, just like the bell from Mooney's when Beck first walked in, and when Candace re-entered it

My theory:
Joe is in prison and is writing (or wrote) a memoir simply because he’s narrating. He’s lived in the moment and is just giving us his POV of what went down.

Honestly I’m glad they didn’t make joe finally have his “perfect family”, we all clearly see that after Love revealed her true self, joe could no longer feel love towards her, as he compares it to his punishment being stuck now with Love. Plus, with his savior complex and underlying needs for true and REAL lasting love, it makes sense that with his ill mind that he’d continue to search for someone to truly fill that gap. It’s interesting though, as I read the comments, a lot of people are saying it looks to be a older woman, either saying it’s his mom (which I find hard to believe) or just someone new, and I think the idea of an older woman is a very interesting take and idea that I hope follows into season 3.

I obviously knew he wasn't well, but the show makes you root for Joe since he is the protagonist. So, it made me believe that all Joe wants is to find real true love, and someone who really understands him. Even the dark parts.
But after seeing the last scene of season 2 I realized that Joe doesn't want real love, he's just in love with the idea of true love. And the fantasies of how he thinks the women he's attractive to should be.
