Andrea Hischak well hes obsessed with protecting a vulnerable woman ever since he shot his dad as a child. hes in love with the idea of innocent woman (such as his mother) who needs protection, so i doubt he actually loves love. she isnt what he wants after exposing herself

It’s all got to do with his mother, which is why they focused on her so much this season. Joe’s says he’s mother was a “saint”, so he falls in love with women he has convinced himself (emphasis on convinced) are “saints”. Because I also don’t think his mom was a saint. Wasn’t she a prostitute or something? When Beck finds out what joe does, she isn’t grateful like his mother was.. she doesn’t tell him he is still a good man who did what he had to do..she instead says he is disgusting. Joe goes back and forth about whether he is bad or good in his head bc not only is he trying to convince himself the ladies he obsesses with are saints, he is also trying to convince himself he is the man his mom said he was. We see him react the way he did with beck again this season with Hendy, who tells him they are the same and psycho analyzes joe to be a man who does crappy things but tries to compensate for that with being a “hero”. Essentially, joe wants a woman to be like his mom, and see what his mom saw in him.
When Candace tried to break into Joe's house and Delilah stopped her to ask why she was there, Candace described the earrings that Beck wore most of Season 1.
When Love leaves the storage after seeing Delilah's corpse, she throws up outside. That detail was not indicative of Love feeling disgusted, but of her being pregnant. After a few scenes, it is obvious that Love handles blood and corpses like a psyco.
It could be that she is pregnant, but I took it that she wanted Candace to see her vulnerable and freaking out so she went to make herself throw up in the trash can and grabbed a broken bottle from there to kill her with as well!
When I realized how similar his relationship with Ellie was to the one he had with Paco I was shocked. They are both young kids who lacked stable parental figures as he did as he got through to them with books.
I feel like he's just portraying the fact that his childhood was fucked up aswell hence books were the only things that helpd him get through with it, so he's doing the same thing to help these other kids I guess.
I think its the writers illustrating the fact that Joe can only see himself as a good person if he's "saving" those kids. It shows that he's selfish because its not actually for them but proving that he's good (this idea really hit home for me on ep 3 s2 and i realized i only liked him in s1 because of his relationship with paco). But he's ultimately ruining the kids lives (paco knowing joe kills beck, ellie knowing he had something to do with delilahs death etc.) its honestly sad really thinking about his relationship with the kids and how he influences them
i think he subcontiously ruins their lives so he can swoop in and act like he saved them. since he never had a real example of a father figure he doesnt know how to act like one hence why he pretends.

And also what her mother meant when the next morning Joe went to meet forty and she said she knows his secrets too... Like forty didn't had any clue about delilah's murder.. Then what secret she was talking about?? And what forty meant when he said before dying that he had always known about how love tiptoed around... Like did he meant he knew how love killed the girl he loved and blamed it on him.. Basically ruined him. He could've never known that because he himself confessed to Joe about that in lsd trip episode. Ughh... So many unanswered questions... I didn't understood so many things... I don't get if these were writing mistakes or pre planed.

SG 008 the secret forty’s mother was talking about was joe “fucking” Delilah during the LSD trip, because that’s what Forty thought happened, and he probably told her. The mom likes joe and therefor - “your secret is safe with me” Well at least I think, idk

Joe is only interested in “pure” women (he’s constantly referring to how “good” Love is throughout the season). As soon as she revealed her true colours, he lost interest. And woosh, onto the next.

Alexander Garcia honestly I’m the same like tbh can’t say I liked Forty all that much till the episode he died in lol that’s when he redeemed himself for me. But so slack to kill Delilah and Candice, the ONLY characters I liked and then to just fuck off Ellie. I feel you, this season and the characters in it were just a mess!

I also noticed that Love didn't react at all when Ellie came into Joe's apartment and asked him if he's done hooking up with Delilah (in front of Love). A hint showing she had already taken care of that problem.

Sadness exactly. Joe finally meets his literal soulmate...someone who loves him the way he wants to love and be loved, and what does he do? He immediately casts her as a villain. It goes to show you that Joe is never actually going to have the loving relationship he so desires. No relationship will ever live up to his fantasy.
I think that's a good observation of the general hypocrisy of humans. The whole, albeit obviously much less lethal, "I want someone to accept me for exactly who I am, but I also want someone who meets this checklist of desires" concept.

both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were ambitious for the throne similarly to how Love and Joe are overly and psychopathically ambitious for love. Perhaps in the end they both will be wracked with guilt which results in death..
I love how this series uses Joe's character development and thought processes in order to manipulate audiences from Joe's perspective. It's like, the audience is fully aware that joe is a psychopathic serial killer, but somehow the writers make it so he can be sympathized with and still have audiences "rooting" for him in a way. It's like we're being put in the victim's shoes, every time he kills somebody the audiences adjust after an episode or two to like the character again. very clever
Not me haha I was still hoping he would get turned into the police for his crimes. But not actually die just so everyone who thinks he's innocent can see he's really a crazy murderer.
I was never disgusted by his murders. It's not like I was angry and only after authors made me empathize with him again, I liked him for the whole time. Speak for yourself.
if you read the book, it’s completely different. joe is completely different. in the show, there’s a certain humanity left in joe and we can reason for why he’s doing the things he does. there’s also the good things, like helping paco, that seem to even out the bad things in the show. however, in the book, paco doesn’t exist. he doesn’t hesitate killing benji. he doesn’t mind dismembering his corpse at all. he’s scary, and the reasons that he commits the murder seem more selfish than helpful. you also get to see beck’s death in the book and how much he battles between it being her fault, then he feels guilt. he eventually strangles her, but moves on almost hours after burying her. it’s very cool, i recommend reading it.
Whenever Candace would say something on the lines of “murder has a way of following you”, “murder finds murder”, “murder follows murder” to Joe it was really foreshadowing Love’s past and present.
In the final scene where Forty was shot by the cop... Here is my theory - The gun that Forty held against Joe was never loaded. It was part of the scheme that Forty had with Love, to test Joe. Remember Love asked Forty to "walk me through the plan" when Joe was waiting outside? Unfortunately, the cop came in and killed Forty "accidentally". Love cried hysterically and if this theory held true, the cop will suffer to death in next season.
I feel like Love knew the cop was following Joe so the plan she had with Forty was to get Joe to confess to the murders but since Joe actually never confessed Forty was going to try to force him to confess but the cop that was following saw this going down and shot Forty

When Love told Milo that she'll cook him in the oven if he'll call her babe, is a reference to Karen Minty calling Joe Goldberg 'Babe' in season 1 and he hated it.
In the scene where love is cutting the meat it’s an homage to the short story by Roald Dahl called Lamb to the slaughter. It’s about a wife that kills her husband with frozen lamb chops and serves it to the detectives. I thought that was very clever. Lambs also symbolize innocence and she’s chopping up lamb.
I also guesses it because in the scene where they met after she introduces herself and they go their separate ways she calls him Will even though he never told her his "name" and he wasn't wearing his name tag either
Yes! I think Love poisened him. When Joe was in the box and hesitates to eat the muffin, Love got mad because she thought Joe thought there was poison in it.. weird explanation, but do you get it?
Ellen Biesmans I wondered about that moment as well. Not only was it a quick response to his hesitation but she was so immediately angry about it too. Idk if she’s the one who made him sick initially or not, but the whole “doctors couldn’t find anything” made me think she poisoned that poor guy w/foxglove or something. It was odd that she didn’t speak ASL to her husband that much either, and he seemed completely deaf - not hearing impaired, as though he could speak & chose not to. That struck me as weird & kind of made me not like her, until I realized she was actually a murderer & therefore cool, lol. Disclaimer: I’m a fan of the baddies; I almost always root for the villains, lol. 😬

I really got the feeling that the new neighbor is his mother. Her hands looked aged, and she was married. He’s always felt connected to her, and he knew right away when he heard her.
The same way he felt connected to Candace and kept having flashbacks in season 1, the Mum flashbacks became way more prominent in season 2, that could possibly mean she will come back somehow.
When fordy is ranting, he is also holding the two weapons that love uses to kill people. A knife and the beer bottle. He also makes reference to subliminal messages while he’s holding the two items. So it’s super meta.
Kara Wie In the book Forty was a novelist who wrote a bestselling book called the Third Twin and he and Joe were trying to adapt that to the screen. Joe did most of the work on the screenplay and he gets pissed when Forty denies him credit for his hard work but is willing to compromise because it may be the only way to stay with Love.
It's weird because 'the third twin' is an actual book, I read it a few years ago. In it the twins/triplets had a housekeeper who would kill people who they thought would hurt the twins to keep them 'safe'. They found out at the end that their 'protecter' was actually the one who killed the people who died. Pretty similar to Joe and/or Love 🧐
Maybe I missed it in the video, but Joe also sees all the things you need to see to be a real citizen of LA according to Love’s friends, which already foreshadows that he’s not going to leave LA.

When Delilah’s death was shown I had a feeling that it wasn’t Joe that killed her because her throat was slit. That doesn’t fit his character and it would have been super predictable if the writers had him kill her.
Why does no one know the coincedence that the actress playing love was in "the haunting of hill house" where her Character also had a twin Brother & and had a husband that died 🤷🏼♀️ coincedence? I Think not.
beck's book is called "the dark face of Love." EDIT: since this is getting likes. this is something i would like to see in season 3. u know what would be brilliant in the show "YOU"? if there was a character (maybe a cop or a long lost brother) that had an identical backstory to Joe's. but didn't end up a sociopath. a lot of joe's justification for murder is traced back to his childhood trauma. that could have been part of the reason why he does what he does, but that still isn't enough to garner sympathy. this season was brilliant of how joe came face to face with his wrongdoings through Love. feel the effect would have been larger if someone else (someone not a sociopath) also made him come in terms with his mistakes. i gave a beck analogy earlier, a lot of people commented on it. which why i said, beck's backstory wasn't explored as much and doesn't come near joe's.
Unity Because at the end of season 2 we find that Love has a dark, evil side to her just like Joe. The title of Becks' book was foreshadowing the whole time.

I don't believe so. If you watch Episode 8 where Joe grabs the glass to hurt Forty, Joe's mom has her hand on the back of Joe's neck which exposes her ring and it doesn't have a stud like the neighbor has on her ring. But who knows, she possibly married someone new.

I'm so glad that the second season didn't suck like the second book did. Honestly Hidden bodies is one of the most frustrating things I've ever read. One of the rare moments when the adaptation is better that the book itself. Props to the writers

And at the end Joe is madly in love with Love, wants to marry her, but goes to jail and has some sort of epiphany and from there the novel starts sounding like a rom-com. It's pure trash honestly.

The actress who plays Delilah played a tiny tiny role, Denise Martinez, in Crazy Ex Girlfriend, she appears in season one saying only “hey girl” and in season four as the same character just for a minute. CEG takes place in WEST COVINA. In You, Delilah talks about her past and says she used to live in Covina. I thought the cameo in season 4 had something to do with that.... maybe someday we’ll know...
yea noone really rooted for joe ... those who did, they better visit a therapist. Cus it's definetly not normal to like a creepy stalker/kidnapper/murder-serial killer. I was rooting for candace obviously... she was the real deal and a very interesting story line. But she didn't expect that psycho joe would actually meet a psycho girl and that they would go killing spree into the sunset together -.-... the girls that joe finds were supposed to be the victims, not the villains. She couldn't predict that... Delailah was also a fine character but the moment i saw her , like literally episode 1.. i knew she is dead... she had this vibe that she will get raped and die i don't know why. And actually she was MAYBE raped? And then she died.. too predictable
@@akhsdenlew1861 Its kind of unfair to say, people who root for character A = insane people who need to be locked up 1. its just a show, entirely fiction. IRL is a different story though. 2. The entirety of the show is displayed from Joes POV and he is the central character we follow. You get to see all the good (helping others), humour (him roasting everyone in his head) and the darkest parts of joe (stalking/murdering others) of him. 3. the show manipulates the viewers into liking joe by making the characters unlikeable in some sort of way by revealing their bad traits/wrong doings, occasionally making joe seem to care about innocent children and lastly the fact that we barely ever get to hear other characters thoughts for much of a substantial time 4. He is just interesting, its not to say he was a good person because he clearly isn't. but going in-depth into his hypocritical thought process, obsession with books and his own idea of love. Even at some points he sees from his own BS and realizes he is the bad person but just like in real life he would quickly throw it as far as possible in the back of his mind because its something people don't want to confront. 6. they give him a boohoo backstory, my dad beat the crap out of me!, I had to murder my own father!, my mother used to abandon me!, and my step dad locked me in a glass box. To be honest though that would really mess up a child. Not excused at all.. but it shows the viewers that all his crazy came from nowhere. 7. Every time joe has killed someone the people, he has been raised by having blame shifted away from him and both of his caretakers have justified it as "not your fault", it kind of explains why he does it himself a lot " I didn't kill her" as if he doesn't have the potential to do it intentionally. When he killed his dad his mother absolved the crime and hid it. When he pushed the guy off the ledge killing him, his step dad covered for him and also told him it wasn't his fault. 7. If he died/or got caught by the police, then the show would end. I like this show. I want joe to fully develop before we get an ending for him good or bad. Right now he is starting to question himself and I think spending time will love would be good because now he has the time to see himself in the mirror for what he is not what thinks he is.
When Delilah broke into joes “basement” he caught her because he put up a security system, so couldn’t he just go back to it and find out who killed Delilah.. that’s the only part that confused me.

i loved his character too but honestly. he didn't even have an hard evidence against joe (even if he was guilty) and he was going to KILL HIM! after joe keeping his murder secret and dealing with his shit for the past month. you'd think he'd have a bit more sympathy
Watch the scene when Ellie asks Joe and Love where her sister is, Love looks extremely suspicious but it is not picked up on due to the belief Joe killed her but her facial expressions show it all

When I realized how similar his relationship with Ellie was to the one he had with Paco I was shocked. They are both young kids who lacked stable parental figures as he did as he got through to them with books.
I feel like he's just portraying the fact that his childhood was fucked up aswell hence books were the only things that helpd him get through with it, so he's doing the same thing to help these other kids I guess.

I think its the writers illustrating the fact that Joe can only see himself as a good person if he's "saving" those kids. It shows that he's selfish because its not actually for them but proving that he's good (this idea really hit home for me on ep 3 s2 and i realized i only liked him in s1 because of his relationship with paco). But he's ultimately ruining the kids lives (paco knowing joe kills beck, ellie knowing he had something to do with delilahs death etc.)

I love how this series uses Joe's character development and thought processes in order to manipulate audiences from Joe's perspective. It's like, the audience is fully aware that joe is a psychopathic serial killer, but somehow the writers make it so he can be sympathized with and still have audiences "rooting" for him in a way. It's like we're being put in the victim's shoes, every time he kills somebody the audiences adjust after an episode or two to like the character again. very clever

if you read the book, it’s completely different. joe is completely different. in the show, there’s a certain humanity left in joe and we can reason for why he’s doing the things he does. there’s also the good things, like helping paco, that seem to even out the bad things in the show. however, in the book, paco doesn’t exist. he doesn’t hesitate killing benji. he doesn’t mind dismembering his corpse at all. he’s scary, and the reasons that he commits the murder seem more selfish than helpful.
you also get to see beck’s death in the book and how much he battles between it being her fault, then he feels guilt. he eventually strangles her, but moves on almost hours after burying her.
it’s very cool, i recommend reading it.
Whenever Candace would say something on the lines of “murder has a way of following you”, “murder finds murder”, “murder follows murder” to Joe it was really foreshadowing Love’s past and present.
In the final scene where Forty was shot by the cop... Here is my theory - The gun that Forty held against Joe was never loaded. It was part of the scheme that Forty had with Love, to test Joe. Remember Love asked Forty to "walk me through the plan" when Joe was waiting outside? Unfortunately, the cop came in and killed Forty "accidentally". Love cried hysterically and if this theory held true, the cop will suffer to death in next season.

In the scene where love is cutting the meat it’s an homage to the short story by Roald Dahl called Lamb to the slaughter. It’s about a wife that kills her husband with frozen lamb chops and serves it to the detectives. I thought that was very clever. Lambs also symbolize innocence and she’s chopping up lamb.

When Delilah’s death was shown I had a feeling that it wasn’t Joe that killed her because her throat was slit. That doesn’t fit his character and it would have been super predictable if the writers had him kill her.

u know what would be brilliant in the show "YOU"? if there was a character (maybe a cop or a long lost brother) that had an identical backstory to Joe's. but didn't end up a sociopath. a lot of joe's justification for murder is traced back to his childhood trauma. that could have been part of the reason why he does what he does, but that still isn't enough to garner sympathy.
this season was brilliant of how joe came face to face with his wrongdoings through Love. feel the effect would have been larger if someone else (someone not a sociopath) also made him come in terms with his mistakes.
i gave a beck analogy earlier, a lot of people commented on it. which why i said, beck's backstory wasn't explored as much and doesn't come near joe's.

I don't believe so. If you watch Episode 8 where Joe grabs the glass to hurt Forty, Joe's mom has her hand on the back of Joe's neck which exposes her ring and it doesn't have a stud like the neighbor has on her ring. But who knows, she possibly married someone new.

I'm so glad that the second season didn't suck like the second book did. Honestly Hidden bodies is one of the most frustrating things I've ever read. One of the rare moments when the adaptation is better that the book itself. Props to the writers

@@melissasmith9242 that Joe feels like a total different person, is not the character that was presented to us in the first book. A third of the book is completely boring, almost nothing happens. And at the end Joe is madly in love with Love, wants to marry her, but goes to jail and has some sort of epiphany and from there the novel starts sounding like a rom-com. It's pure trash honestly.

The actress who plays Delilah played a tiny tiny role, Denise Martinez, in Crazy Ex Girlfriend, she appears in season one saying only “hey girl” and in season four as the same character just for a minute. CEG takes place in WEST COVINA. In You, Delilah talks about her past and says she used to live in Covina. I thought the cameo in season 4 had something to do with that.... maybe someday we’ll know...

I was rooting for candace obviously... she was the real deal and a very interesting story line.
But she didn't expect that psycho joe would actually meet a psycho girl and that they would go killing spree into the sunset together -.-... the girls that joe finds were supposed to be the victims, not the villains.
She couldn't predict that...
Delailah was also a fine character but the moment i saw her , like literally episode 1.. i knew she is dead... she had this vibe that she will get raped and die i don't know why.

1. its just a show, entirely fiction. IRL is a different story though.
2. The entirety of the show is displayed from Joes POV and he is the central character we follow. You get to see all the good (helping others), humour (him roasting everyone in his head) and the darkest parts of joe (stalking/murdering others) of him.
3. the show manipulates the viewers into liking joe by making the characters unlikeable in some sort of way by revealing their bad traits/wrong doings, occasionally making joe seem to care about innocent children and lastly the fact that we barely ever get to hear other characters thoughts for much of a substantial time
4. He is just interesting, its not to say he was a good person because he clearly isn't. but going in-depth into his hypocritical thought process, obsession with books and his own idea of love. Even at some points he sees from his own BS and realizes he is the bad person but just like in real life he would quickly throw it as far as possible in the back of his mind because its something people don't want to confront.
6. they give him a boohoo backstory, my dad beat the crap out of me!, I had to murder my own father!, my mother used to abandon me!, and my step dad locked me in a glass box. To be honest though that would really mess up a child. Not excused at all.. but it shows the viewers that all his crazy came from nowhere.
7. Every time joe has killed someone the people, he has been raised by having blame shifted away from him and both of his caretakers have justified it as "not your fault", it kind of explains why he does it himself a lot " I didn't kill her" as if he doesn't have the potential to do it intentionally. When he killed his dad his mother absolved the crime and hid it. When he pushed the guy off the ledge killing him, his step dad covered for him and also told him it wasn't his fault.
7. If he died/or got caught by the police, then the show would end. I like this show. I want joe to fully develop before we get an ending for him good or bad. Right now he is starting to question himself and I think spending time will love would be good because now he has the time to see himself in the mirror for what he is not what thinks he is.
When Delilah broke into joes “basement” he caught her because he put up a security system, so couldn’t he just go back to it and find out who killed Delilah.. that’s the only part that confused me.
Kristina Y I don’t think it was security in the basement, I think whenever she was snooping around in his apartment, she seen the keys and got them. He knew about it because he said he had a nanny cam or a cam in his house.
I think Joe tells he has a 'Nanny Cam' in his apartment. He saw delilah finding keys to storage room. But yeah i thought of it too, why not have a cam in storage room too.
I think he only put a security system/camera in his apartment, not the storage unit.

I dead ass want season 3 so bad that I’m gonna rewatch season 2 right after finishing- what a great put together show man. Shoutout to Joe & Love the most *DOWN* for each other couple ever.
