I think Joe wants to be someone who is not like him, because he know what he is capable and with the reveal at the end, he sees that Love is exactly like him and that scares him. So he is not happy and is only staying for the kid

They gave her a much better character in the series. In the book she's fairly bland and her only personality trait is that she has sex with different guys. I like what they did with her character in the series.
