    Those lights are usually AC running directly on the stater not the battery. It usually depends if it has a DC or AC CDI. If it has a AC CDI, the stater is likely center tap grounded creating 2 'phases' and the lights and CDI are one one phase and the charging system is on the other. While AC CDI equipped engines typically use grounded stater's with half wave rectifiers, engines equipped with DC CDIs sometimes have full wave rectifiers with the stater ungrounded. Speaking of stater's they can have a 6, 8 or 11 pole stater grounded or ungrounded. The wrong stater or upgrading the stater without wiring changes and damage the CDI and/or blow all the light bulbs as ungrounded stater's typically produce twice the voltage Another thing to note the flywheel that comes with a 6 pole stater will NOT work for the 8 or 11 pole, there are 2 different flywheel designs. If you are planning to put lights and stuff on it for max charging go to a 11 pole ungrounded stater with a full wave bridge rectifier and a racing DC CDI with no rev limiter or at least a higher than stock rev limit. DC CDI's provide better spark but will not kick start with a dead battery. If your wondering usually the kick start is where the muffler bolt is mounted. But that's right ladies the rev limiter is electronic on these. ;) I have something similar and mine hit 35 MPH on Go Power Sports Street Tires when the engine setup was completely stock with a stock CDI. Lightly modded on street tires I've hit 45 MPH and can easily climb some pretty decent hills with 2 people. The GY6 CVT's can really torque through some pretty nasty terrain even with 22x10-10's on the rear. www.gopowersports.com/long-lasting-tire-set . As they say though 'mileage may very'. I have something similar to a Tomberlin Crossfire 150R with the 9.8 HP GY6. While you can get a 'BIG BORE' 180CC or bigger piston,bigger jug and head kit for these CHEAP, they tend to run hot and fail quickly. I kept mine 150CC and ordered a new $30 Carb, racing CDI and 11 pole stater and fly wheel from Amazon.

    A couple of cautions here. The original spindles bend very easily. Also, these carts are top-heavy and don't have that wide of a wheel base. They will roll easily if you're not careful.

Ended up rolling it and bone was sticking out of his arm and rocks inside of his arm also. Ems said if he would have went head on it would have killed him. I love the steering you can handle the hell out of that big buggy and it feels amazing my favorite part on the buggy. Good luck guys hope all turns out well one of my favorite buggies. Yerf Dog really liked those GY-6 engines. We have two Scouts that have GY-6's with reverse in them. Neither one runs right now, but when they did, they we're gutless and slow. The engine in better shape is going to be made to run again, and the other one is getting a Predator 301 swap, with torque converter and F-N-R transmission, and re-geared so that it'll at least keep up with our tractors to be used as a chase vehicle when moving equipment.

    Im experienced in gy6 engines. They are low quality engines but you can get some miles out of them by maintaining the service intervals. These are cheap copies of a old honda engine, they are mass manufactured in China. They usually come in 4 versions per CC, 2 shortblocks (10" wheels) and 2 longblocks (12" wheels), 1 version of each is marked with a "-J" or "P" in the engine number, the P or -J model has a little taller cylinder and head from what I've noticed. A normal problem are usually defective carburettor (diaphragm). They can also be very picky on the valve clearance (hard to start when warm etc). And if service intervals haven't been maintained they can blow, leaving you to replace the piston, cylinder and sometimes crank. A few times I had to replace the crank on the 125cc models since they started to knock (normal problem?). And in a few cases the stator has given up. Feel free to contact me incase you need any further information.

    In general leave the black lead attached to ground and move the red lead around to check voltage levels. It is easier to spot voltage drops across connections and banged up wires..

    bmi karts ounce sold a axle upgrade kit that gave a larger axle with bearings wheel hubs and wheels. The wheels were bigger and the axle was longer and thicker. I then ordered a front spindle and wheel upgrade kit. This things was more like a side by side when it was done and went through anything you put it through. would never get stuck.

    Not saying you “should” do this, but if you want to disable the starter safety switch, you can do it in a way that it can easily be switched back n forth. Pull the rod of the switch out which is in the start position. Then drill a small hole through that rod of the switch switch right up next to the switch body. You can then insert a cotter pin in the hole which will keep the switch out which is in the start position and Bobs your uncle.
    Anytime you want to use the normal safety position, just pull the pin.

    Gy6 are mainly used for scooters but they have a super great performance market and everything is generally pretty cheap! You guys should get a couple 50cc scooters and start a scooter series!

  • @christianlucatino1910
    @christianlucatino1910 5 років тому

    I have a gy6 50cc Chinese scooter with a 100cc bore kit. I’ve worked with theses a lot and performance parts are dirt cheap I highly suggest you mod that engine rather then swapping it. It’ll probably be cheaper. That looks like a gy6 150cc you can buy a 171cc bore kit for pretty cheap along with a performance camshaft if you look into upgrading it a lot.

    The GY6 is a very common engine in Chinese based scooters. Chinese built based on a 1980s/90s Honda scooter engine. They come in 125/150/200/250cc. The 50cc is slightly different. Actually good engines if looked after but terribly underpowered and the materials used are cheap. There are tons of spares available (here in the UK) and simple to work on.

    It’s a spider box gx150. Front ball joints are prone to fail. The gy6 is 150cc and can be bored easily to 180. Top speed stock is like 28-30. Rear axle is crap tent to strip at the splines. Carb upgrade would be a 38mm makuni with a 130 jet. Btw it will rev to 9k no problem.

You guys should check out and maybe see if you guys could pick up a Joyner buggy they use to make a few different models all with manual transmissions and 500ccs even up to 1100cc car motors! Most also had 4x4 they usually can me picked up pretty cheap and I figured you guys would like them because there's turbo kits for them and they are fast they are governed at 75mph and also can be road legal! Idk if they are around your area but here in MN they are pretty popular and and smaller cc dune buggy can be picked up cheap for what they are.

    Those respond well to a lighter weight kit in the torque converter. It delays the transition to high speed and let's the engine wind out longer. Highly suggested if you keep the GY6.

  • @Big_John_C
    @Big_John_C 5 років тому

    We have 2 of those, they have plenty of power and speed when running correctly.... Unfortunately they have a very finicky carb and ignition system, any small problem and they start hard or not at all and leave you stranded if you take them into the woods. 48-55 mph with a couple of big guys on it. FYI, if you throw those bearings in the freezer for a couple hours they will slip right in without beating on them.
