Well done young man, everyone's had years to work out this stuff. As hard as it was to find lead guitarists back in the day who could handle the work that Steely Dan presented with so many wonderful guitarists brilliant works, it is good to see that todays musicians still recognize the masterful work and take the time to get it right. You're not just copying the licks, you seem connected to the guitar much like the man himself and this makes me very very happy for the next generation of players who will learn from you. Imagine it's 1976 and you are probably a long time from being born and these cat's got together and made this record. Now 46 years later and guys like you are understanding the worth of this music. Thank you for this man. Thank you!
Thank you for your extremely kind words, I fully feel you about the concept of such incredible music being conceived so long before myself and others… a beautiful concept
Larry was pure taste and understated fire. He evoked more emotions by his minimalization. The other perfect example is his work on Third World Man. I would LOVE to see Alden take a stab at that. It may be too slow for you, Alden, but I would love to see your take.
@@aldeniw Yes, sad but gorgeous song. It was actually recorded first for the Aja album but it was thrown into Gaucho (re-recorded and mastered) at the last minute due to the loss of the Second Arrangement master. @@martyweiner6525 thanks so much, I appreciate the kindness. What would I do differently? Well I think LC’s playing in this song is basically perfect so I wouldn’t have done anything differently. :)
My guitar playing took a giant leap in 79 or 1980 when I “ kinda“figured out Room 335. I remarked on this years ago, but that is a stellar performance!
Wow. Totally nailed one of Larry Carlton's best ever performances. The timing and phrasing is spot on and that PRS not only looks good but has killer tone as well as guts.
Faultless rendition of probably my favourite Steely Dan. As great as cover versions are, I am always gobsmacked at the creative genius and skill of the original composer, Larry Carlton
I have to say - there are a zillion covers on youtube by guitar players - and I've watched a lot of them - but this one really stands out! Really superb.
Nice to see young people keeping this music alive. Well played young man. You are never to old either. I started playing at 48 and I'm now 60 and can pretty much play any classic rock songs including solos pretty decently. Don't give up !!! it's an awesome thing to know how to play guitar and have fun ~
I was vocalist many many years ago in the late 70's. It was mainly a Steely Dan cover band, which had a great musicians. This reminds me of the band back in the day. Nice job.
First heard Larry Carlton back on a vinal, playing in those days with the group The Crusaders. Check out a track Spiral by Carlton. But loving this more than great Guitarist. Love his fealing, and everything else New Zealand
Keep coming back to this video....the best guitar transcription on UA-cam...of ANY song. I have practiced this pretty consistently for 3 years now, and know that I will never come close to you Alden. Clean and Pure transcription of Larry Carlton in his prime.
Love that shade of blue you painted the walls and the white window molding, ceiling and the paisley window shades and espcially the blue painter's tape sealing the window shaker. And I love this Steely Dan guitar lesson.
Amazing job my friend!!! 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 I am a die hard Steely Dan fan. I have been since middle school. This is one of my favorite songs! I live in Oregon too. 😊 They’re superb musicians. Please keep up the good work! Looking forward to more! 🎸 🤘🏻♥️

I can play this song all the way through, just like you. The major difference, however, is that I look like I’m being chased through back alleys by dogs and MAFIAoZA’s arm to the teeth! Blood sweat and tears pouring out of various parts of my body and I often barely make it from one change to the next. You, on the other hand are completely relaxed, almost to the point of being bored! I don’t mean that in a bad way, but you’re so in tune that it looks like you might be thinking, “ I wonder if the macaroni and cheese is done yet damn, I’m hungry!’ Great fun and thanks for the post.
nearly perfect. Unreal. Best transcription on UA-cam. Best I have ever seen and heard besides Carlton himself. My favorite part is actually the bridge and your version is gorgeous.
That really moved me, just started learning this solo tonight.....it's not just technically beautiful, your timing and the way you lean in just right at the right times is stunning. I'm struggling with the first two bars lol. You really ride that groove like the best of them, best wishes to you Alden.
Gotta admit....theres a lot of these that are close. This is about the best I've heard. Guitar tone, subtle vibrato, BRAVO
