This is pure heaven on earth for anyone with a guitar player's mentality.... I keep coming back here every few months for total immersion....will never stop listening to this until the day I die.
THIS VIDEO popped up randomly already liked by my grandfather he passed last year steely dan was his favorite, if he liked your video means you got some serious talent man, rip grandpa miss u everyday ❤
Mailing steely dan come back with such great feeling. This kid i worked with loved steely Dan, he was several years younger than me good guy died too young, when i hear this stuff he's the 1st thing that pops in my head Love ya Joey Maliska ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
Man ALIVE!! THAT was pure perfection!! NOTE BY NOTE, just incredible...and you make it look so damn easy and effortless! You were playing ridiculous notes and you weren't even looking at the freaking neck sometimes... Just awesomeness...
Rick Beato stated that Steve Lukather's outro on "Running With The Night" by Lionel RItchie is the top outro solo he has ever heard. Of course Beato is also a huge Carlton fan and has many times featured Kid Charlemagne and Don't Take Me Alive in his top solos ever.
good god Alden, not only PERFECT transcription, but more importantly, the perfect emotional touch of LC. You should be out on tour with Donald Fagen...
Good lord that's two in a row (just watched your Don't Take Me Alive vid). My guitar is laughing at me, I'm gonna have trouble falling to sleep. Brother if you're ever in Southern Vermont I'd be floored to take a lesson! You can sign my guitar so in ten years I'll be able to sell it and have a decent retirement fund.
Perfect sooo glad I clicked on this.. Really great job of playing ill be BORROWING some things just figured id be honest lol Excellent job.. may I ask what you were playing through to nail that sound so well I heard it was a tweed deluxe
Thanks! Fully digital signal chain. Carvin DC727 -> UA Apollo Twin Duo -> TSE808 tube screamer plugin -> waves GTR amp sim -> Catharsis vintage 30 cabinet impulse responses. I just turn the dials to get as close to whatever I'm looking for as possible.
@@aldeniw Excellent playing thanks for the tips I went axe fx awhile ago Im constantly amazed at technology and all for it this after chasing 40 years you sir are a gifted and talented player Id want the left hand fingerings you are using just to try them and I also rely on pinky of left hand but I can see your approach is correct. Id be interested in the Dan transcriptions with left hand fingerings and any right hand notes also That could almost be done by slowing the videos down its a chore but I feel crucial for playing these tunes right that and the actual sound which you have accomplished. Im located in Texas..
@@aldeniw Makes sense, that it was handy at the time. I admit it did raise my eyebrows a bit, as Larry Carlton was known for 6-string ES-335s. That said, it's an excellent performance, and I'm sure you could make it sound good on any guitar.
@@aldeniw They certainly aren't cheap. Even a very basic 335 is well into the four figures, and one with all the accoutrements demanded by elite players like Carlton or B.B. King can easily top $5K. A cheaper way is to go the John Lennon route with the Epiphone Casino, one of which can be had for about $800 to $1,000.

Forget Alden's incredible talent. I am almost as impressed by his GUITAR collection, and the way he matches each one to its particular tune.

Nailed it again Alden, one of the best rock guitar solo's ever devised too. (IMHO)
That is not your opinion. That is objective fact.

Great job!both Solos were fantastic!!🎸
Well that was fucking fantastic!
One of the top ten guitar solos in music. Larry Carlton had such a unique way of expressing himself with the guitar.
What a sweet feeling it must be to be able to play this that comfortably and competently. Sounds perfect
Absolutely superb! Not just note for note, but with the feel of the original. Tasty as hell! Keep up the great playing.
Just...WOW! Love me some Larry Carlton. Your Steely Dan covers are all brilliant! Thanks for posting.
You've got a great feel for this classic Larry piece. So nailed it.

good god Alden, not only PERFECT transcription, but more importantly, the perfect emotional touch of LC. You should be out on tour with Donald Fagen...
Thanks! That would be a dream come true…
@@aldeniw a better Steely Dan transcription than Jon Herrington.....I am serious.
Amazing dude…
God that was good Other covers here on ytube dont have as much feel and sre rough around the edges
Thanks again Mike, that’s really nice of you to say

Thanks! Funny enough, I’m heading to (Northern) Vermont this week to engineer some drum recordings for my own band. Based in MA, small world.
Fandamntastic
great job on this... i play this one myself, but I haven't put a vid up yet.
Touchdown!!!!! Epic bro....😎🤘🏼
109 POSITIVE THUMBS UP.... 0 thumbs down.... As the late great George Carlin used to say...."that's quite a ratio".... for good reason.
Carlin is one of my idols. Thanks!
That was really good. You listened!
Just the right amount of tapping...The hair rocks, you need to know that too...It's a brotherhood!
Damn!
god damn
just damn excellent playing - you could have been on the session .
Thanks a lot, not sure I’d be nearly as brilliant writing the parts as LC. One can dream!
@@aldeniw --- keep dreaming - keep playing ! ! ---Cheers

brilliant, how long have you been playing?
Almost twenty years.
Well, if Donald Fagen ever needed a lead guitarist, you should be at the top of his list imo…😷🤙🏼
In my dreams, Glen!
What style guitar are you playing. Nice 7 string.
That’s a Carvin DC727.
BTW. You are a very good guitarist. Keep on, enjoy life, and put smiles on people’s faces.
I couldn't help but notice: why the 7-string?
Happened to be there at the time and I love that axe

That’s true; if I were to go the cheap route I’d much rather buy an 80s MIJ ripoff: Tokai, Greco, Fujigen, etc. They were very expertly built.
Was that awesome? Yeah... I think it was.

Can't here you playing it..... Its just the recording playing
No, it’s me playing along with the recording.
I can send you the raw file of my guitar track if you really don’t believe me.
Can't hear is guitar!
you’re putting too much amazing content out too quickly! let the people catch up first
Fantastic!
