This is one of the best cover songs I have heard at anytime, anywhere, in my entire life of nearly 70 years.
Very, very good cover, but I direct you to this: ua-cam.com/video/P_8aZZ9d_EA/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, aka Steely Dan, cherry picked the best of the best musicians in the business to record with. This bands ability to delivery such musical virtuosity and feeling so effortlessly is amazing! This wasn't a cover, they owned it!
What a great comp!! Thx!
Sad early death of Walter !
So true, I would pay to see them, Steely Dan is timeless music.....
Saw them in Memphis, on Mud Island, 2008. I was very lucky to see them before Walter passed. However, I missed Tom Petty and Joe Walsh when they came through. 😢
"The Royal Scam" should have a place in every record/cd collection.
My favorite album of all time
Still play it from beginning to end regularly….absolutely brilliant & timeless album👌
It’s in mine!
Probably the best treatment of Larry Carlton's guitar work I have heard. Kudos.
Oh si!!
Yes sir I agree. I'm digging those Noble & Cooley drums. They ain't cheap.
Really nailed the tone there!
Agree for sure. No easy feat!
@@mikemaxwell1801 Did he ever!
As an old guy who once worked as a DJ in the top five radio market, I have these songs ingrained deeply in my brain, and I have to say that this was a very, very, very good treatment of this track.
Thank You.
@arthouston7361 As an old jazzer that digs classic rock I feel the same way.
Same
hell yeah
Masterful and passionate, perfect execution of a timeless piece of shining art!❤❤❤
Can we please give the drummer some love!??!
And in the business about 40 years and I’ve never heard something sound so good and so close. Props to the band and the vocalists
Wow ... we love all positive comments, but it really means something coming from a pro! Thanks Timothy! So very appreciate!
The "Lexington Lab Band" does really good Steely Dan also. -UA-cam
Unbelievable how good this is. And what a lead singer!
Many decent SD covers fall short from lead singing. Not here.
You people are unbelievable that guitarist is killing it and the whole band is phenomenal
Terrific comment ... thanks!
This is soooo good..!!! The guitar player really understood the Larry Carlton assignment.
A lot to get, but Jeff's got it! Thanks!
Kudos.
Take a bow Stealin Dan - the best cover of Steely Dan I have heard. What is impressive is how tight they are considering they are live. Fantastic.
One of the best covers I've ever heard Of Steely Dan
Great lead vocal. Superb lead guitar tone and playing. The drummer smashed it.
I have been a Steely Dan fan since their first album and saw them many times but no more....... This tribute band is outstanding and filled me with emotional nostalgia. Fantastic !!
Really great .every song tells a story , the wonderful "Fire in the hole" all of them , soon in Spain will set up my sound system 100 w per channel free Sony with 2 10 inch tannoys , spiders web remover .
Great to hear an excellent group of musicians keeping Dan alive
Pretty good
I've seen Steely Dan and this band is very good....
Great job with Fagen's vocals, Musicians are top quality , excellent vocals all the way around. Not an easy song to cover.
Amazing. Great vocals and guitar work
Truly excellent rendition of one of my favorite Steely Dan songs. 👌💪👍
As a Steel head, kudos to this band and their clever name. Like to see a Cover Band named the Moody Dudes now. 🥰
Very good cover of a fantastic song .....One of my favorite Dan songs....
Gotta love a tribute band that does so well.
thats not a tribute band where u come up with that statement
@@campusman1957 Before you claim that this band is not a “tribute band,” perhaps you could provide an argument for why you disagree. Your turn.
OMG I just realized that they’re not the real Dan
Guys got a great voice....
Really great. Vocalist has the ´attitude´ , makes all the difference
Stunningly good - says this 60-year-old.
Superb rendition ,man that lead player is something else
.
Great Band here. The guitar player was excellent!!
Dudes! I’m probably the biggest Steely Dan freak you’ll ever meet, and I’m just stunned! Brilliant! And damn! Who needs Larry Carlton! Brothers got chops!!
Man, you guys are tight. Outstanding musicianship, the entire group.
One word......Unreal.
I know most are loving the lead guitarist doing a bang up job as 'Larry Carlton' (me too!), but dude on the keyboards is killing me. That brother is straight serious about his craft. The look on his face.... Bravo!👋
This is such a wonderful rendition. One of my favorite songs ever.
One of our fav’s, definitely. Great set opener ….
Seen the Dan live afew times. Played music for almost 40 years and our best Dan don't hold a candle to this. These folk are killing it. Superb.
Great version, you guys were spot on 👍
God they were great. Steely Dan was a large part of my life in the '70s and '80s. Their sound was surely their own
Hats off for even attempting Steely Dan at all. sounded Fantastic.
Kudos, Just fabuloso !!!!! Amazingly beautiful! (45 y musician here ;) )
Great performance of a great song. The guitar player killed it.
Without question the best cover of SD, ever. ESPECIALLY the guitar.
@@garymorrow2896 Thank you , You're too kind
Thanks paul! It's a good one, isn't it? Had me on the first listen ... as best as I can recall ... lol
Killer voice for steely dan covers
Love this hot band . Love this song - all aspects ! Thanks
The lead vocalist is SO smooth - he sings effortlessly. The two female vocalists are equally smooth. The blend of the voices perfect. The 3-part "ahs" at the end of the second verse are flawless. This is the finest rendition I have heard of any SD cover band doing this song.
Wow ... soooo pleased your enjoyed the details ... sending a big thx to the original gang who created this masterpiece song!
Sounds better than Fagan
The bass player is worth listening to all on his own.
agreed
YES ...that gentleman NAILS it !!🎼🎶🎵🎶🎵
Doesn't get any better than this.
Just WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long long time Steely fan and these people NAILED IT!!! Just WOW!!!
OMG - that was phenomenal. I Love Steely Dan, and that was The Best Cover, I have ever heard (of anyone doing them). Really enjoyed it. oNe LovE from NYC
Michael .. amazing comment. Thanks so much for your time and interest!
I've been a professional audio engineer for over 30 years and have worked with many amazing musicians, Walter Becker included. It's amazing that a bunch of people I've never heard of before are absolutely killing it, great job Stealing Dan, I want more!
I absolutely loved that. Took me right back to when I bought the album. Beautifully played and sung
Im late to this party....just amazing guys.
I was a band photographer in the 70s as I worked in a camera shop across from a rock bar. Bands would come in an ask if someone could take pictures of their shows. The first time I heard "Don't take me Alive" was a cover by a Tacoma group called Freeway Jam. I was hooked on Steely Dan from that moment on. This is a great version, very well done.
Good story. Never heard a lot of Dan in the bar world, save for Reelin' and the odd My Old School attempt.
@@stealingdan-sn6wv Another group, one I went to school with performed Reeling in the Years. Long time ago now.
Seriously kickass. Seriously.
Tight tight tight Dan! Enjoyed immensely.
Truly fantastic cover of a classic though it was the original keep it up
Holy spit oh ma dog this is so excellent
Please play live a lot in Victoria BC asap
Wow, I'm a Dan fanatic, and this was excellent. Also, that Strat player is ON, man!!
The guitarist has a humbucker in the bridge position in his strat in order to get the double coil Larry Carlton sound.
Excellent playing and singing all around.
Excellent cover! Very faithful to the original
Really astounding. Loved it. The whole band are purely impressive.
Mad Dog Surrender!!! Awesome…
Love it!
Steely Dan recorded this song piece by piece...bit by bit...using many tracks and many takes until it was perfect in a controlled studio setting, ( although Larry Carleton nailed his parts perfectly in one take! ). So, for this group to replicate such a masterpiece song so accurately LIVE....all at once...is quite an achievement !! I loved it! Especially the extremely accurate guitar and perfectly blended background vocals. The mix was spot on, with only a tiny hiccup near the beginning where the piano was too loud for a brief moment. It was a pleasure listening to this because it was faithful and well done....even the Dan live is not that faithful to the original.
What ?!? … piano too loud. Whoever heard of such a thing? lol! Thx for your comments - much appreciated.
Five star rendition of Steely Dan's best. Awesome...Keep um coming
AMAZING & SO GOOD!They worked out every nuance and intricate detail.....
I’m glad this showed up in my suggestions.
So true to the music and vocals.
Thanks for posting it.
These guys are so close to capturing the original Steely Dan sound on one of my favorite songs. Thanks.
I hope to see these guys someday.
Excellent, just like the album, funny as man times as I have seen Steely, they never play their songs like the albums... the guitarist has one mighty heavy duty cable...love it!
OUTSTANDING!! Every bit of it. Outstanding.
Excellent. It's difficult to pick a favorite Steely song, but this is one of them. Nicely done.
One of our fav's too!
Dirty Work!!!
EZ
So true. Except St Louis Toodel-oo for me. I know it is a Duke Ellington comp and I, am sure, genius, but after 30 years I am still trying to digest the SD cover...
Helluva great job from the lead guitarist!! Bravo.
Wow. This is excellent. One of my favorites, wore this record out. This is legit in every way. Jealous to be honest, wish I was in this band .😢
You guys nailed this most difficult Steely Dan song. Everything was well played and tight. The bass and drums really stood out to me as perfect. Fun listen, thank you
Holy shit!!! Liked+sub'd. Any major dude will tell you that you cats are awesome!!!
Nice lyric reference ... appreciate the comment!
It's me again: on this listening I just caught Jeff Drummond's bass lick at 2:41. I'm a fellow bass player. REALLY nice, Jeff.
This what you call Precision at it's finest !! Unreal !
Bugger me , I misread the title , I thought this was the real group , my God they’re outstanding, respect from England 🏴
Now that’s a compliment! Thanks from Vancouver Island, Canada!
SUPERB-ABSOLUTE!!!
Thank you for doing justice to an old favorite...
Amazing. I initially thought it was Steely Dan. Great talent all around 👍👍
Absolutely outstanding in every respect! 👏👏
Excellent!
Absolutely bloody fantastic!! 12 points from irish jury
Well, then an Irish Jury it is!!! Thanks!
Thank you Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (RIP) for giving us the best music in history. Nice job Stealing Dan.
I've been a musician for over 50 years. I don'y ever follow bands or subscribe. To me music is art and creativity. When I watch kids playing in the videos I think, Jeez they'll sell a guitar to anybody. The players and vocalists in this group are perfect. Nobody comes across as Look at me, look what I can do. They're real musicians (not just kids that can play 10,000 notes a minute that don't go anywhere). They respect the song, they respect music. I truthfully enjoyed the band and subscribed. I look forward to hearing more.
Really appreciate your thoughts and comments, Bernard. We love playing this music!
Amazing note for note performance. Great production. This is how it's done.
Great kudo, Sully. Thanks!
My favorite S Dan Song👍 Killer version-as good as the Original! All of ya Rock🇺🇸
What they said! I couldn't enjoy this more! Wonderful.
It's not easy to get anyone to listen to a Steely Dan Cover to the end, for obvious technically very difficult reasons! But this was immaculate, and even added a subtle new flavour thanks to the gorgeous voice combination and little subtleties from all the band. Beautifully played and no doubt extremely well rehearsed!
Wow..I thought they must be playing the album over them at first..perfect performance !
Andy ... we're blushing!
If you ever come to South Africa I'll buy tickets for every damn show!
My favorite song of all time!!!!
Excellent vocals too! Fagen's attitude and phrasing are hard to emulate. Many Dan bands fall short. This guy nails it.
That's Jim Papp on vocals ... great comment! Thx!
You're so right. Fagens style, phrasing and intervals make him deceivingly difficult to cover. This guy does an excellent job. Way to go Jim Papp!
True that. Donald would be sardonically proud. I think.
@@Bludgersofficial
I’m a sceptic when it comes to cover bands, but even I would go out of my way to see these guys live, bravo from🇦🇺👏👏.
Absolutely Sublime .❤👏👏👏
WOW! Thanks a lot, Liam!
Wow, very impressive and true to the original. Thanks!! 👏👏👏
That intro was Flawless. Note-for-Note perfection.
Just when you think rock is dead. Fabulous
Fantastic cover- kudos to the lead guitar player you really nailed Carltons solos
Thank you God - to have hearing.
Wow, first time listening to these guys, EXCELLENT!!!!
Outstanding! Simply Outstanding!!!
I’d have to say the best Steely Dan cover I've ever seen. The singer captures all the essence of Fagan. And the guitar player slams it. Drummer great. Background vocals spot on. I'm impressed! You’ve gained a big fan here. I’m certainly looking forward to more!!!
Big thanks, Troy. So appreciated!
Amazing performance by all players / singers. More amazing is how much like Larry Carlton's ES 355 Gibson that Strat sounds ! Fantastic tone and nailed every nuance of Larry's liquid smooth fluid phrasing and flowing solo style.
Bass player is awesome, vocalists perfect, drummer, like a metronome..................................they are all f***ing stars. This is the real deal not just a cover band.
WOW ….. gonna share this one around! Thanks! Let me guess, guitar guy?
@@stealingdan-sn6wv Don't play guitar myself, but you don't have to play to be able to see and appreciate good technique and excellent players.
I play harmonica and sing a bit !
Great cover by ever member of the band. And that lead guitarist. . . wow!
