    Hello, I followed the video/diagram but I must have missed something. I have it wired up the way the diagram says but I can’t quite figure out the neutral wire. If I wire it one way, as soon as the turn the car on it gets full power to the wheels and the pedal doesn’t control it. If I switch the neutral wires, then the wheels dont spin when I turn power on but the car loses all power and restarts when I press the pedal?

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  2 місяці тому

      I previously used some larger relays with big old heatsinks that were way Overkill (or so I thought). They were great actually but they took up a lot of space so I condensed them into a smaller unit. But if you got the space they're definitely good DC to DC options. I think the link is still on my original video. Let me double check.

      That's the one I originally used but then replaced with smaller units. It supports 25 amps and has a massive heatsink so I think it should be good. However, there's good and bad parts of anything. So since I didn't use it long-term, I can't speak for the quality over the years.

    • @bigworm1978
      @bigworm1978 7 місяців тому

      I got the new motor controller on. I have reverse now and forward I had to wire it into the switch for the factory harness But the only thing on my remote works steering

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  7 місяців тому

      The remote doesn't go forward? I'm trying to think of a simple way to get reverse working from the controller. It just reversed the polarity coming out of the factory controller so I guess if you had another relay with a normally open and normally closed side then you could basically operate the physically forward and reverse switch with the relay.

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  7 місяців тому

      But if you aren't going forward either you might want to check to see if you're getting voltage out of the stock controller when pressed. Also sometimes those controllers are funny there is a s button or something in the middle that you have to press before it will engage one of the functions

      I don't see why not.     • @overvolted

      You can choose what you want to have on the 12v circuit. I kept my remote and MP3 player and lights and stuff on the 12v and just put the motors on the higher voltage...so the motors are the only things at risk in that set-up.

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  7 місяців тому +1

      Depending on your vehicle most of them just invert the polarity of the current going to the motor. If that is how your reverse setup works, it would not trigger the relay. BUT you could switch out your motor controller to one that supports an external reverse switch for less than 20 and wire it in to the in vehicle forward/reverse switch. I just put a link to it in the description.

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  7 місяців тому +1

      No. You can just set the low voltage cutoff to stop pulling power once the battery voltage drops below a threshold. It doesn't lower the voltage itself

    This doesn’t hurt the motors for the wheels right? Running on 18 volt?

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  9 місяців тому

      The speed controller is variable so you don't actually have to run it at full chooch. But that being said, technically overvolting anything is going to add some heat and potentially reduce the lifespan. Go too high and you can definitely hurt the motors. In this case, the 18 volts going between two motors keeps everything in check even when I have the controller cranked all the way up.

  • @WarMachine550
    @WarMachine550 8 місяців тому

    So, if your car does not have a remote control, but DOES have lights, the on/off switch and hi speed/low speed shifter like your jeep, do you still need to do the dual 12v/18v setup like youve done here? Or can you get away with just wiring in the "WUMZIJ " kit you linked here?

    • @overvolted
      @overvolted  8 місяців тому

      You'll probably bypass that high and low and use the knob on the speed controller for higher speed. I think if I didn't have the remote and mp3 and things then I'd just wire it in. The lights are really the only question on if they would run on the 18 volt directly. You could always step down to 12 just for those if you wanted. Buuuut if you don't mind some trial and error then you can give it a shot directly wiring it in

      Oh dang! Sometimes if the voltage cut off isn't set right you can lower the voltage so much that the stock charger won't charge the batteries. You can generally recover the batteries from there by connecting The positives and negatives together from a working battery to one that has low voltage. Normally just for 10 minutes or so and the charger will recognize it again and charge it back to normal capacity.
