This instant pot air fryer lid has every safety feature you can think of and allows us to finish our meals in one pot. Thats is not why the cord it short. The cord is short because it pulls a lot of current and the shorter and thicker the copper is in the cord the more current it can handle without getting hot and melting or causing a fire. Its the same reason they cover the other socket.

Perhaps they did that for costs savings, but it was not a safety thing. You just need to add more insulation / heat resistant insulation to protect against what you're saying. And the reason for covering on the socket and the shot cord is so that you cannot plug in the instant pot and the top at the same time. Doing so would destroy the lid.
CORDS ARE MADE SHORT ON HOT COOKING APPLIANCES TO MAKE THE APPLIANCE SAFER, EXPECIALLY AROUND CHILDREN, PLUS, IT COSTS LESS MONEY IN PRODUCTION IF THE CORD IS SHORTER! IT'S A DOUBLE BONUS!

Love my IP Air Fryer Lid. Don’t forget to spray the inside of the basket with an oil and I always put parchment paper on the bottom of the basket too. Makes clean up so easy. Also Always Temp whatever you cooked to prevent and health issues.

Always temp chicken to 165 degrees. And be sure whatever you are cooking is cooked to the proper temperature
There’s also another air fryer lid for the Instant Pot called the Mealthy CrispLid. Works great and the lid is made of glass so you can keep your eyes on what’s cooking and change settings, etc., if/as necessary. No, I’m not a Mealthy Rep just a very happy Mealthy owner who wanted to share the info that there is another alternative available that rivals this one. Happy air frying and have a great day!

Wish you had taken an internal temperature reading right out of the fryer. Just curious if pressure cooking before air frying will keep the meat moist even if it is over cooked to like 190 or so.
I find that the meat is always moist even with air frying, but I believe it is because of the pressure cooking before hand. Thanks for watching :)

What’s wrong with browning using the glass lid on sauté with little to no water or stock?
Theres nothing wrong with browning using the glass lid on saute with no water, but this air fryer lid allows you to air fry bacon, bake dehydrate, and broil your food. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching :)

If you are specifically looking for a dedicated air fryer I would purchase a standalone air fryer such as the instant vortex. I have both, and I use the lid to complete my meals to make it a true one pot meal, and I use my vortex for the sides :)

The problem with these, as with the Ninja version, is cleaning that lid.
You have to dismantle it, It might be better in the dish washer (except some of the parts are very small) but hand washing them with baked on fat it really hard, you can't put pressure on the parts because you are worried about bending them.
So if you have an easy way of cleaning them it would be handy to see that video.
Hi Rob, I have that concern as well, I have the Ninja, and it is tough to clean. So far I haven't had any issues with cleaning the lid just yet, but I am sure once I get to that point, I will have to start brainstorming ways to clean it without having to dismantle it. The real reason it had a short cord is that they had to use larger gauge wire which drives cost up

You mentioned that the lid pulls a lot of current. We live in an RV full-time and Instant Pot has become a very important tool for me. Can you tell me specifically how much current it pulls?

When air frying Italian sausages is it safe to use the broil dehydrating tray?
During “turn food”, take the lid off and put it on that tray while turning? You said it will stop cooking as a safety feature but does it continue where it left off when you place it back on?
Hello, yes that is correct. Per Instant Pot's manual: "If you need to put it down, place it on the protective pad. Cooking will resume If the lid is put back on the cooker base within 3 minutes. If not, the lid will go into standby mode and display OFF". Hope that helps.
I think it be worth a try to lightly pressure cook a not so prime cut of meat and then hit it with the broiler. Pseudo suou vide?

Hi David, the lid is great when flipping the meal. Typically with any air fryer, its best to flip or shake the meal for even cooking. Having a mat for the lid allows you to place it safely on a surface where it will not damage your counter.
I, would cut it into thick or thin, or both slices and then pour some of the extra tasty heated chicken broth that is left in the InstantPot, over the chicken slices, to make them even more juicy!

If you rotate the heat tray 180 degrees so that the big notch is at the top, the protruding part of the air fryer lid will fit down in there so the lid sits flush on the tray and keeps it from wobbling. I got mine 3 days ago and love it!

Many users (including me) recently discovered the air fryer lid due to a blog that announced its arrival. The dimensions of the lid are: 10.7 x 11.61 x 6.14. Did you dump the chicken broth out of the instant pot before air frying? Do you need liquid in the base of the instant pot Pot like the minimum 1 1/2 cups for pressure cooking?
Hi Pat, I did. I mainly remove the liquid from the pot for the best air frying. Heat and fluid will create moisture, and are not beneficial when crisping something up. I have seen other instant pot posts say its ok to leave the liquid in the PC while air frying, but I feel it wont crisp as well. To answer your second question though, liquid is not required when air frying. Hope this helps :) Thanks for watching

Perhaps an adapter ring is in order so it fits all the rest of the models. I wouldn’t want to be the one to point out the obvious to the Instant Pot brain bank. But they are right now sold out of the lids, so I guess they have bigger things to worry about.

I suspect this device is pulling about 15 amps, which means a 20 amp circuit breaker might trip if some other high-current device, say a microwave, is on that same circuit-and the circuit is different from the outlet. Several kitchen outlets are likely to draw from that same circuit breaker. No big deal. That circuit breaker will keep you from drawing too much current. If it trips, reset it and learn from that to not use both devices at the same time.
Thank you for the information. It definitely draws a lot of electricity. I know my kitchen and laundry room runs on the same current, and like you mentioned, if one device is on, I cannot have the dryer on or it trips the circuit haha.

What about smoking? I have purchased and returned 2 air fryers - both highly rated - Phillips and Ninja Foodi grill - because of so much smoke cooking chicken wings. What has been your experience? Thanks.
Hi Mary, I haven't had any issues with the lid smoking. I have found that to prevent smoking from the devices, the oil needs to be a high smoking point oil such as avocado oil, or grapeseed oil. With my Ninja Foodi Grill I did have smoking because of the olive oil I used, but since I have switched, I haven't had any issues with either air fryer so far (knock on wood, haha).
Night Time Mommy Reviews Thanks for that feedback. I was using avocado oil so the smoking surprised me. You could see it swirling under the cabinets and around the lights at the ceiling. I suppose it was from the fat in the chicken wings, but even so it was not tolerable. Even my clothes smelled!!
can you air fry, say a larger chicken not using the included basket and just the inner pot alone?
You definitely can, I have a video with the air fryer lid with a whole chicken but I did use the basket insert. My only advice when not using the included basket is to use the trivet or a sling to pull the chicken out :) ua-cam.com/video/7xsH5KHriCk/v-deo.html

You'll also need a specifically European model. It is not just the plug. Electricity in Europe is 230 volts, versus 115 volts in the U.S. Take my word for it. You do not want to put 230 volts into a 115 volt device.

What the heck is the ceramic pot insert. You lost me there ?
Instant pot usually issues the new instant pots with a stainless steel pot insert, but you have the option to purchase a non stick ceramic instant pot insert instead for those meals that tend to stick to the pot. Its great for the pressure cooker but does not work well with the instant pot air fryer lid :) Hope that helps

Hi John, I don't believe the lid will fit as it wont turn on until it is aligned with the instant pot base. I would look into the mealthy crisplid. I hear it is compatible with multiple pressure cookers.

Hi, I just ordered the lid and I have a couple of questions I couldn't find answers to. I was going to purchase the Mealthy Crisp Lid. People were saying that if you remove the Mealthy lid to check the progress of the browning while it was cooking, it would default back to no time left on the timer if you left it off the pot for too long and then you had to reset the time and temp again. Is it the same with the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid? And my second question is: Once you're done browning and it's cool enough to wipe off (but it may still be a bit warm), has it cooled down enough at that point to lock on the pad and store in a cabinet or panty shelf on the pad? Thank you.
Hello Cindy, the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid also has a similar safety feature when removing the lid from the pot. I found the following in the manual, "If you need to put it down, place it on the protective pad. Cooking will resume If the lid is put back on the cooker base within 3 minutes. As for your second question, I have always let it cool for about an hour before wiping it off, and placing it on the lock pad for storage, but I think if it was cool enough to the point where you could wipe it down, it would be ok to lock in the cabinet or pantry self on the pad. Can I use olive oil
It really depends on the temperature. Most olive oils have a smoking point of about 400*. If you plan to use a lower temperature, it should be fine, but I would just check which olive oil you have and verify the smoking point first :)
Will it make fried chicken?
Yes! I am very close to releasing that video. Hoping for it to be out in the next week or two :)
Never use this lid on a MAX or Ultra model because they have a secondary temperature sensor near the top. If your particular Instant Pot has a sous vide feature then you cannot use this lid without damaging the top temperature sensor.
Get a Ninja Foodie Grill it is an infinitely better product and you can grill a 4 lb chicken in it to a golden brown !! If you get the PRO version it has a temperature sensing probe and you can cook to a specified temperature in the meat !!

Why does the food have to be cooked before you can use the air fryer portion? That makes this an extremely time consuming task. I'll be returning my lid and buying a real air fryer if that's the case.
I bought this thing and the pot. I am an old school cook and it just seems like a whole lot of farting around for such little food.

It can be :( I think its a great investment if you use your instant pot regularly and find yourself transferring meals to the oven as the lid can allow you to cook and finish it all in the same pot.
I think it depends on what airfryer you are looking at they can be cheaper by like $5-10 some airfryera are the same price as the lid and some are more expensive I've just been comparing prices on Amazon

Hi Daniel, It really is an amazing product. Haha. I know, I wish I could fix it. At the risk of sounding dumb, I truly did not know that about the ground prong. I am going to start using the bottom one. Thank you so much :)
There is no requirement or standard that says the ground socket needs to be in the down position. It makes no difference electrically. Oddly though down just seems to be the accepted norm which makes me wonder why.
@@macweenie seems as though i was told by an electrician is the standard they use, i always refer to things like this as "Bubba's electrical Service"

@@macweenie no it makes no difference electrically , much like a wall switch will still work upside down but will tell you, NO this isnt right.. (some people have to think about this one), the "correct way" is ground plug on the bottom , but the whole statement was meant as a joke,, so relax its going to be OK!

Interesting, but a total cook time of 22 mins will most likely yields tough chewy piece of meat. I’ve cooked chicken in the suggested amount of 10-15 mins or even 20 mins from a solid frozen state on high pressure. No way was it nice and tender. Pressure cooking takes less cooking time than baking. I’ve found the best cook time for high pressure cooking for tender chicken is 35 mins. If you want that browned baked look, 25-30 mins on HP and a few mins in the air fryer may work, but her way isn’t going to give you tender meat. Notice how white the chicken still looked! Also, it’s good for the liquid to touch the chicken for juiciness. Try it and see what works for you. For me, I’m not into rubbery chicken...
Why use an oil that has to be chemically extracted? I really think people need to look into natural products, food industry is interested in your money not your health.

Never had issues using olive oil in the IP. It’s supposed to be the best overall...
@@rcole6679 There isn't an issue with using olive oil while using the pressure cooker functions, however because olive oil has a low smoking point, it is possible for your air fryer lid to smoke because the temperatures are substantially higher without any liquid being present in the pot.
@@NightTimeMommyReviews I agree olive oil has lower smoke point. I still would prefer a natural oil that can be pressed with a weight vs chemically extracted
