Welcome back to another Project Teacup vlog! It's been a while since I did another 'write a book with me' vlog. For anyone who doesn't know, I'm currently working on an adult fantasy novel. So this video is essentially a day in my life while I try to write a novel. I'm currently editing draft three which has... presented challenges hahah.

I needed a break from math, so I took it - only to see in my notification bar some words from Christy’s channel. I am supposed to get back to math after this video, but God, all I want to do is WRITE ALONG WITH CHRISTY.
I really love seeing other peoples' writing processes! I have been DYING to make more writing vlogs, and you've inspired me to get into it as I revise a book I started last year; this was so fun to watch, and it's so exciting to come with you on your journey toward publishing.
These videos are so helpful because it helps fellow authors realize we are all having similar experiences and aren’t alone
Writing fantasy to be under 100k is such a challenge! I had an agent tell me she would consider looking at fantasy at 125k but I’m still trying to get it lower to open it up to more agents.
It's really tricky but from what I've heard, it's essential for commercial fantasy to around 100k! Epic fantasy tends to go a lot higher, of course. I think if I indulged too much and let this have the word count I'd actually want (120k+) it would definitely never get published hahaha 😅 best of luck with your writing and editing 💛💛

About minute 14 or so you do the most WONDERFUL explanation without using specifics. To dumb it down it was like "I need to move the thing from here to over there. Then move that thing from there to before there and then I need to restructure and work on the overall thing." I was SOOOO amused by your actual description. Your book must be amazing!!! ❤

I'd love to see how you get over writing slumps. I'm in the phase where I think I'm an idiot for even trying to write a book, so I'm looking for ways to get over this mindset and how to get stuck back into writing.
That's just imposter syndrome. I also often think I'm an idiot for trying 😅 I think the most important thing to remember is: just because it's difficult, doesn't mean you're bad at it. It just means it's difficult.
Loads of people publish novels. You don't need a certain background or education. There's no reason it can't be you.
Plus, one of my favourite things I do is give myself permission to write the "shit draft"--i know the first draft will be bad. I KNOW it'll have cliches and bits that need to be fixed. That's okay--that's what revising is for.
Headspace and low confidence are such tricky things to work through but I absolutely understand what you're going though. Best of luck with your writing 💛💛

This is so impressive! It’s really interesting to see how you break down doing a creative project like this into manageable chunks. I would absolutely love a video about how you experience imposter syndrome and if there is anything you do that you have found helps to combat it.

Christy, every time I see you making a cup of tea I make one for myself too, lol ! Thank you, this video is a gem, it's so inspiring to see you putting such energy and effort into your writing project! I also really liked how you organize your writing project, to be able to see the whole with spreadsheets, and the time organization with Notion (so happy for you with this sponsorship, I love Notion too). I wrote my dissertation last year, and it was 300 pages. I wish I had seen it before I finished the dissertation. But now I am revising/editing it to submit the final version, and I will try to do something similar. So, I would really appreciate it if you could talk a little bit more about how you organize your time and the text as a whole.
There. Back now. Loved your Neil Gaiman vlog. Such excellent ideas. I'm working on finishing my first draft. Although I had the requisite number of words I did not have an ending. I'm writing it by hand and trying the writing or nothing idea. So instead of muffing around doing all sorts of delightful thingies like synopses and beat sheets I gave myself March to finish the ending. Then I'll finish a proper first draft, do beat sheets and go into a proper revision. Like you I love revising. My process seems so chaotic and backwards but I'm going to trust it because my last book was traditionally published. Woo-hoo! I do want to tell you that publishers don't mind you sharing the name and idea of it because it means you've already started generating interest in it. A win-win. Anywhoozie you share great stuff so thank you.

Hey Christy! I was wondering if in a video you could try to breakdown rewriting/ how you’re going about it in sections of project teacup? I love your organization. I may try notion. I have so much for each novel I write to keep straight. I have binders of "book bibles" I call compendiums for each book I have done. I am also a nerdy girl who adds pictures of what I think my characters look like and devise magical laws, races, rules, character bios, chapter outlines, main story layout, what world is like, religions, countries, government, trade. (I write fantasy novels too). Good luck with your magical teacup project! I know the stress involved. I love how smooth your organization is. Mine is controlled chaos.

Amazing! Are you going to do a tutorial on how you outline your book Christy? Or maybe do you have a template of the excel planner sheet (if you do, that would be nice!)?
I loved this video! I think something I want to hear your thoughts on is what you do when you feel parts of (or all of, like me) your story is dragging on and there isn’t enough excitement or attention-grabbing. I love a slower paced story but I worry that it is TOO slow paced. How do you include everything you want while not shooting yourself in the foot while pacing? This has had me in a writing slump for months 😅

I feel this. I'm editing my fantasy novel but I've had a lot of people look at it already. And I spontaneously decided to send a query and some sample pages to an agent. I doubt it'll go anywhere but it's something to work toward while I finish my edits (I have to turn it in soon since it's also my graduate thesis). Good luck with your draft!

Hi! This video was great, I cant wait for more project teacup updates! If you want to, it woud be very interesting for me to hear your take on writing despite imposter syndrome. I am trying to write a book (and have been for years) and although I love my characters, story and world, I cant bring myself to actually write it. I start, stay consistent for a couple weeks and then stop, mostly doubting its good enough to be written, even if it is only for myself (the fact that I know I would want to show it to someone, even if they are friends, makes me terrified of their "judgement" and makes everything worse). Thanks in advance!

You showed us a snapshot of your Excel file today... does that mean you write your whole novel in Word? Or do you use something else? I am also interested in writing a novel; I have quite a few stories I would like to tell the world. Love this editing set up! If I could offer one piece of advice it would be to get some beta readers or critique partners that aren't anyone you know irl (e.g family or friends) who can give good feedback from a completely unbiased POV. Was life changing for my writing!
