I'm doing a no-pressure Nanowrimo, meaning, any number of words is fine with me. My discipline is to write (or research/plan) every day on my novel project. Once I have worked on my novel, I can write a poem or short story but the novel comes first. So far, I've been happy with the focus and discipline that has given me. I have a really tough time with genre. I'd say its literary fiction, possibly historical fiction (by accident.) Set in the 1940s-80s in the UK. The story follows a small coterie of characters who's lives intersect. One man's obsessive pursuit of an inconsequential goal changes all their lives. Fingers crossed and good luck to you. I'm pantsing too but I have put it into beats and now and inserting beats inbetween the existing beats etc to fill in the story. Currently at 22K words but only about 15K are from November. Still, I'm happy with that.
That’s great, congratulations! And I love the idea of a no-pressure nano where researching and planning count, too. I might take that on for the rest of the month since I need to do a lot of research to get this book finished! ❤️
This is so validating because I'm planning to do the same next year (I had exams this month so couldn't). I too enjoy literary and historical fiction - in the shorter end, the most. I also write creative journals very frequently through out the year so there is no point in pressuring for the world limit, it's all about the discipline. All the best to you ✨💗
@@PlantBasedBride How far did you get in your November nano-writing ? Are you happy with the results ? Are you in editing phase now ? I got a bit side-tracked at the end of November and completely derailed in December. But looking forward to getting back to it after Xmas.
ugh i'm happy to hear others are struggling too! last year i was pretty happy with myself to get over 25 000 words in total, this year i'm still somewhere around 5 000 words where as one of my friends already hit his 50 000 words goal 😵💫
I know it’s hard, and I know I didn’t follow my own advice through the entire video, but try not to compare yourself to others! You wrote 5000 words… That’s amazing! I hope you’re proud of what you’ve accomplished so far ❤️ and you’re definitely not the only one struggling!
I really like this style of videos! I feel they're very balanced in terms of relaxing vibes and information about your progress (which is also relaxing so yeah 😅)Thanks for sharing!
I heard the concept that most writers are either diamond polishers or swamp drivers. Diamond polishers try to make everything perfect as they go, whereas swamp drivers plunge ahead and just try to get words on the page. I tend to be a diamond polisher and obsessively gone the story as I go, but I’ve found that swamp driving is better for NaNo when you’re trying to hit that mark.
Omg this is perfect 😂 I’m definitely a Diamond polisher, and it really slows down my progress! I like to make sure punctuation is correct, and I add quotation marks, I have to go back and fix typos… I really need to just go for it and let the mistakes exist, lol
Similar to some others in the comments, I'm doing a no-pressure NaNo. I'm just trying to get in the habit of writing but that's looked more like plumbing the internet for short story prompts and then writing a quick drabble for each of those since my story idea didn't end up being as easy, or interesting, to write as I thought that it would be. I have found that the only prep I did, which was to be honest about the number of days this month that I would be writing and figure out my daily goal from that, was extremely helpful. I'm going to try to do a NaNo Camp this year and will definitely be using that strategy again.

Thank you so much! 🥺 I really appreciate that! I’m working on building that clogging muscle. It’s a very different way of filming videos but I’m enjoying the challenge!
I don't even remember how many times I watched this video. This video always comes to my mind when I need motivation to write. I wish there was a sequel series. 🤍
Just found this video on Day 2 of April 2023 Camp NaNo. I’m still working on my novel that I want to publish sometime this year. Also, thinking of starting a vlog but haven’t decided yet
Ah, I know that feeling, you don’t plan to write another nano but somehow you still ending up doing it just because you just got a really good idea for a book. So happy that you decided to write again this year. I my self have been writing very little and trying to do some world building and more of the plot cause I need more of that to start writing. I really want to write this story so hopefully I will take more time to write on it. Good luck. I believe in you! 😊❤ Oh I love those nano blogs.
I loved this! I actually published my first book in October and so I am waaaaay too burned out on book promo to do NaNo right now. But honestly I just revived a fanfiction project I was working on yesterday and it feels really great. Also I totally called it! I KNEW you were writing horror/Dark Academia 😆
Congratulations!!!! That’s so exciting 🥰 and thank you! It’s a chaotic mess at the moment but I think there’s a tiny kernel of something intriguing somewhere in there 😂
Thank you so much for this vlog ! I had set my own personal goal at 15 000 words this month, meaning I would write 500 words per day. I was doing pretty well the three first days of NaNoWriMo (4 795 words in total) and actually believed I was capable of reaching the official 50k goal. Unfortunately, that and the fact that november is a busy month completely blew my motivation away. Your vlog brought it back. Thank you 🥰 !
I just write little snip bits of my character Rainys life and stories she has around midnight. And her remembering things that happened in the past and other things that she has experienced. And some of her high school memories and ghost hunting adventures with her boss. I love writing stories on her as a teen and her as an adult. She's just so interesting to learn more on and the stories my mind comes up with are amazing.
loosely participating as well - trying to really work on my first draft of my 2nd novel in a series, my first has just released earlier this month - "From Feathers to Stars" and I am working hard to get book 2 well underway! so excited
I thought I'd be writing a dark academia story for NaNoWriMo this year but couldn't plan anything at all! So Nov 1 I just started writing whatever came up and ended up with a fantasy story. With no planning I usually do okay but this year my word counts are so low and I'm not sure how or when I'll get out of this funk lol good luck with the rest of the month!!
Try to focus on something other than word count. Like maybe writing five days out out seven or count the hours you spend writing with hashmarks on a post-it note. Its all good. You're writing and that is what counts. Brava.
This was a very relaxing video. It was slightly hard to hear you over the music at times though. Best of luck with NaNoWriMo! It's a feat to even attempt it.
I was sure it would be dark fantasy, and it wasn’t too far off! I wonder if Nanowrimo itself would make a fun setting for a dark academia book. Best of luck and enjoy yourself!
Tazo green ginger tea is my favorite! There was a while that the only two grocery stores in my area stopped carrying it. So I had to settle for just green tea.
We haven’t put the handles on yet so we open from the bottom 😂 our kitchen is only half done because we’re doing it all ourselves and both have full time jobs!
First time doing it, started strong for the first couple of weeks, but have lost all motivation the last week! I have ADHD and get the whole ADHD paralysis thing plus it’s my time of the month so I’m hoping in a few days I’ll be feeling a bit more motivated - I’m not even halfway there on word count yet so suspect I won’t win this year but that’s ok. I’ve still written more this month than I’ve written in years, if not ever.
Still a huge win! I hope you feel better soon and feel some new inspo. I read a tip to jump to the end and write the final chapter if you’re feeling like you’re struggling, and I found it really helped me get more motivation!
Sadly, I cannot do Nanowrimo because of school and how it's winding down, but I do a sort of a Nanowrimo week, where I take almost all the wips I'm working on (there's four this time around) and I write one chapter for each of them until my Thanksgiving break, then around the holidays I'm writing like mad trying to get everything done before the new year, and before I write a new story (which I would have to put on the backburner until one of my wips is finished, or it carries on into the new year).
@@PlantBasedBride yep it does! I take a day to focus on one story and my creativity just comes out for that one story and then all i want to do is write a whole lot for all of them at the same time. It does it overwhelming sometimes, but I take a break to do something else before coming back and working it, and it turns out to be a beautiful thing :)
