Nice video . Can you write a song that is a hybrid between SRV and another very different musician? Something that is not just going back and forth between riffs but where it's very blended. That would be interesting. I wonder if the AI could help on that. For instance what would a hybrid of an SRV solo and Sultans of Swing or Blackbird by the Beatles sound like?
Or the Lenny solo mixed with Dogs by Pink Floyd.
Also in the video on how to ingrain a lick, I would say use a pitch shifting playback app and learn it in all 12 keys but when doing this not changing from one key to the next key chromatically, instead randomly selecting the next key or just writing down 12 keys in random order before starting. That makes it harder in a good way, in that you don't get used to any predictable modulation. If you improvise in some key that is not often used but with the same chord progression it can give you new ideas. So when you take the progression through all the keys and record improvisations you can then go back to the original key and transpose some of those new ideas back to the original key.
Then a further version is try to change the lick from major to minor or minor to major and see if it still sounds good. If it does then it can have even more application and it might also set apart from just being a straight copy.
Do you know this song by Roy Buchanan- The Messiah has come ? It's a great one, I think might fit your tastes
Also Frank Marino - Live at the Agora Theatre - Something's Comin' Our Way (this one build in intensity over 12 minutes)

There's probably a lot more to it though...

    • @Simrasil_
      @Simrasil_ Рік тому +7

For image generation there already has been a number of copyright lawsuits, stable diffusion is currently facing one. The argument there is, that the result, while never an exact copy, is *derivative* of the copyrighted artworks that were used to train the model. A work would be considered transformative, if the new art piece has enough "new" ideas, features, additional information etc. that makes it fair use. (I'm not that familiar with law, let alone us law, so take that with a grain of salt)
In my personal opinion though, stable diffusion using copyrighted images and fusing them together into a completely new image, is no different than a human artist using those original artworks as "inspiration" for their own work. The original images are not present in the trained model, or only very implicitly and arguably not recoverable, in the neural networks weight parameters. So in my opnion, these copyright claims don't really have a case.
As far as ownership of the generated pieces goes, that is different for music and images imo. Music is a performed art, and while a specific recording of a music piece should be copyrightable, the "idea" of the song shouldn't be - again, in my opnion. The court seems to disagree with me on that, looking back on the precedents of the last few years with the ed sheeran/marvin gaye thing and so on. There is a long and rich history of music, making use of existing chord changes and melodies to create something new, be it Jazz improvisation or a Hip-Hop producer sampling old vinyls, and I think much would be lost if we deemed all of that illegal. I think the copyright system is long overdue for an overhaul anyways, and this AI thing would be a good time to start doing that.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Here is what chatgpt has to say about it. But who knows if this is true or not, lol:
"Yes, if you use the lyrics generated by the model, you would need to give credit to OpenAI in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 license mentioned earlier. This would typically involve including a statement such as "Generated by OpenAI" or "Lyrics generated by OpenAI" alongside the lyrics. The exact form of the credit will depend on the specific use case and context, but the aim should be to clearly indicate that the lyrics were generated by OpenAI and to provide a link to the OpenAI website if possible."

I think something about AI art that is worth thinking about you didn't mention, it's not just the writers of the code that essentially "co-wrote" the song, there are all the people whose data it collected to train the AI. Do those people get a cut?

I'm not sure the pedals are necessarily heavily modified (Although it is John Frusciante so certainly not beyond the realms of probability). I think the fact that you can buy the pedals very easily is deliberate for touring musicians. If one of your pedals breaks while on tour you can easily get a replacement in a very short space if it is something fairly common. A replacement for your $10,000 Klon Centaur would be somewhat harder and take longer to obtain.

AI seems to be a search engine that presents its findings in the form of whatever medium you’re using. So for chat - I don’t find it actually comes up with novel thoughts or ideas. It just finds what’s common on the web and then presents the findings as though they are an original thought. Art - similarly - finds images and then tweaks them in the style you’re asking for. I’d have to assume the music is doing the same. Although maybe the guitar stuff will be better since it seems to assume we have nine fingers on each hand.

The original lyrics were good, I agree. I've heard (written) far worse while actively trying, just like you said.
Your touch-ups were amazing. Felt like when my friend would look at my clunky stuff and delete half of it and turn it into poetry.
But you didn't delete half of it, just changed a word here or there and it was total magic. I had chills at the end of your reading.

Love this show! The AI stuff is changing the game in every way and it’s insane to watch. Laws are still catching up to the freaking internet, so no way are laws going to be able to adjust to AI quick enough. Wild Wild West baby!!!!

I am pretty sure Greta Van fleet just had AI write a bunch of led Zeppelin songs for them and then tried to sound like Led Zeppelin, That has been my theory since the 1st time I heard them

I had the same idea with chat GPT but with asking it to create a solo over a chord progression. At first it was just a note progression but I got it to focus on a melody, and then asked it to add bends and so on. Ended up using about 90% of what it came up with.

The line 6 thing, sometimes the simple things are great cuz it just does what it does and in context of a whole board it shines. Or, it's what you know as an up and come-er and so just use what ya know kind of a thing?
    As you say, "Eh!"

I've been following and playing with various AI tools for awhile now, and I think we're at the point where it can be used as a very valid springboard for musical idea. If anyone is interested, I have a little tutorial/example over here: ua-cam.com/video/NlJm-ErA1gg/v-deo.html
Granted, this is more using MPC style pads, but you can easily jam guitar over it, which is what I usually do!

My thoughts on AI writing Music: We shouldn’t be using technology to make EVERYTHING easier. With some tasks, like those that require a lot of physical strength, machines are good for replacing human strength. But music and other forms of art are a way for us humans to express emotions, experiences in life, or a message. What AI can do is mostly write by numbers, which is just bland and the same thing over and over again. We already have the write-by-numbers happening in modern pop music and it is quite boring. IMO the best artists are those who always tried to do something a little different. Artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Steven Wilson, and many more. Artists who don’t want to repeat themselves too much.
Also, when Sammy mentioned how he could imagine using ChatGPT for changing up a line of a lyric, I had to think about the fact that some people spend weeks trying to come up with better lyrics. And honestly, that’s somewhat of an accomplishment. Should we as human beings try to always reach for the easy way out by using AI? I think creative problems like these should always be solved by humans, even if it takes multiple of us.

Modern pop producers have been using A.I. to make the same bland pop songs over and over again for the past decade. The technology isn't as new as people think. There is a reason why modern pop sounds very 'by the numbers'...

We have been using technology to make EVERYTHING easier in writing and recording music for decades. The Beatles and Pink Floyd used Technology to do Expand their music. Reverb, Tape Delay, Synthesizers these are all tech developments that allowed them to produce the new works they did and it's only grow since then. Virtually zero pieces of music you hear today don't rely on some form of signal processing on every bit of them. Before you claim that's different... These are all tools and the way people use them is what makes their inclusion art. The final piece of art be it music, film, animation, painting, sculpture is what matters. Your method is up to you to choose. You are welcome to your opinion of how you would prefer art to be made and whether you give it any value or not. " I think creative problems like these should always be solved by humans, even if it takes multiple of us." and it has, those other people made ChatGPT.
