    Love the block design and wondered if a jelly roll could be used instead of the accuquilt cutter and die?

    • @CarolThelen
      @CarolThelen  2 роки тому +1

      I'm sure you could use a jelly roll. My first thought is to use something like Thangles because you can put two fabrics together in strips to make HST. You could also cut them into triangles. That's a great way to use up jelly roll scraps too. And you don't have to use one fabric for the background/light side. Use light scraps for that too. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching.

    Carol, I don't have the ability to use dies to cut my fabric and use the rotary cutter and self healing mat to cut my fabric. What size are your blocks before they are sewn together to make the HST's? What size is the square used in the middle of the star? I would like to get busy cutting my fabric, and I need this information to start.

    • @CarolThelen
      @CarolThelen  Рік тому

      The squares and the half square triangles finish at 2". Cut the squares 2.5". Cut the half square triangles 2-7/8" squares. Good luck and thanks for watching.

      Two inch finished! I can’t believe I left that out🤪 thanks for watching.

      So the HST are 2.5” n sew either side of drawn diagonal line n cut n square up? Newbie here with measurements for HST 😇

    • @CarolThelen
      @CarolThelen  2 роки тому

      No, that's not correct. I use the AccuQuilt cutting system to cut the size triangles I need. If you want to use the method to stitch on either side of the diagonal line, the cut size of the square is different. Take a look at my video called Half Square Triangles and Flying Geese Tutorial -- ua-cam.com/video/g5A9JZ4_Ux0/v-deo.html
      The video has a download with information for making different size half square triangles.
      The half square triangles (HST) in the Friendship Star are 2" finished after they are sewn into the block. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

      @@CarolThelen thanks for the info and size chart via the vid link.. when it came to the boarder tho, it threw me 2” HST and 2.5” plain squares didn’t make sense or line up against the block made.. lovely quilt but think I’ll give a miss making up this one
      Happy quilting!
