For the 14.5” you can use a standard bird cage flash hider, and there are silencers that mount to the standard birdcage, griffin and b&t are two I can think of off the top of my head. It’s a great way to keep a shorter overall length without a silencer, but if you’re going to run a silencer then running a longer muzzle device doesn’t matter with the can on it.
If it’s a suppressor mount you’ll want to use shims, most come with them in various widths, also use some type of thread locker such as vibratight or rocket. For my pin and weld I used the shims it came with to time it perfectly, I also used vibratight, torqued to 29ftlbs, and used the back end of the drill bit I used to drill the barrel for the pin, I used a chemical weld and not there’s no chance in hell it will come off during any amount of firing.
Good 1! I just had this problem today. I have a ba13.9 and have two muzzle devices lucky because the first device VG6 Delta clocked in at 15 7/8th of a inch on the rod. So had to use Epsilon to get to 16.1
I really want to see more after market parts for this like different charging handles, this is just 1 idea but I feel like there's not enough after market for this upper and there needs to be. Left side charging uppers, ambi uppers, different BCGs, maybe some sorta non reciprocating charging system. I think this has so much more opportunity in it and no one seems to give a shit. I'm no machinist or else I'd try my hand at it
Show the 10.5 with like the KAK 6 inch muzzle device,I saw one at my local range this weekend and my god it’s ridiculous.can we just stop the brace BS,I hate paying the government for something that should be a right, but I think if you go 10 inches or smaller just pay the $200 for SBR.
If you do use a crush washer or lock nut for can use, make sure you use an oversized bore can. .30 Cal can on a .22 Cal projectile. I'd argue that's better regardless but personal preference.
I got mine almost done! I have the 13.9” with a SOLGW Nox pin and welded. I am using a Aero M4E1 with radian ambi safety, Guiselle maritime bolt catch, strike dual folder with cheek riser and strike picatinny adapter, I wish I could have found a shorter picatinny adapter but I a wanted a qd cup for my sling. I’m a lefty and it’s perfect for me. I’m trying to decide if I want the non reciprocating charging handle adapter or the folding handle, which do you recommend? I’m also trying to decide what optic to go with, do you have a recommendation? I’m looking at dot and magnifier, 3x or higher prism maybe even an ACOG, or a lpvo with a top mount red dot. Thanks for making my favorite and main rifle. As a lefty who uses a silencer you guys have made the perfect setup. I wish you guys would make a 8”ish 300bo, 10” is great but a 7”-8” would be awesome.
The NOX will work but it’s made to bring the 13.7” to OAL 16” so it will be a touch longer than needed, but will work. I have NOX(2.866”) on my 13.7” and I use the Dead Air FH (2.7”)for the 13.9”
Got the 13.9", but my Surefire muzzle device (3P or CT) will not clear the bottom of the hand-guard. Any known solution? I'll be contacting PWS and keep the tail-hook on for now. I love the BRN180 platform; Brownells /PWS are top-notch. But there are a lot of little issues still to work through.
How come brownells doesn’t pin and weld before shipping? In areas of the country where it’s not as free it’s hard to find gun smiths that pin and weld. It would save the end user a lot if pinning and welding was an option from brownells.
There are just too many varieties of muzzle devices out there and everyone has a personal preference and different use case. If you need help finding a local gunsmith, feel free to give us a call.
I pay $75 for the pin n weld service. Most people want to match their preferred muzzle device with the CAN they are using so I completely understand why this makes it much simpler on their part.
What I was thinking if brownells had a system set up on the website where you can buy the upper and a muzzle device together and at check out put the order number in the comments to have them do it. Obviously if you have a muzzle device already or from another store you check out as normal. But if the device and upper are purchased together they could charge an extra fee to have pinned and welded before shipping. To make it easier on the end user.
Will a Greek Arms 3FO work with a 13.9" barrel because from what I can tell it is allot less of a cost than the muzzle devices you mentioned especially a Surefire, the Breek Arms 3FO works just as good if not better than most muzzle devices in the same class👽
Bring back your brn180 lower reciever guys! What are you thinking lol. That thing was unique and sick , either that or give me the cad files ill pump those puppies out for people. In 80% as well lol
Can you tell me what that vertical cutout towards the front of the handguard is? It looks kinda like a cutout for fixed front sights but way too small. I’m curious why that is there
Can you make a video on how to fix a misaligned muzzle device by surefire if a can and alignment rod aren’t aligned? I can’t find a video or forum topic on this. Like minimally shifting the shims doesn’t seem to work. Wonder if there is even a fix.
Its probably not the muzzle device or the suppressor. Its the threads on the barrel not being concentric with the bore. The only solution is to get another barrel. Have you tried installing them on a different barrel and doing an alignment check? If not, you need to do that first. If its still misaligned then there is a problem with either the muzzle device or the suppressor and you need to contact Surefire for a warranty claim.
I hunt with any gun I buy, so in my opinion shortys suck, but I'm going to watch because I am sweating to death with no power outside live oak Florida, hurricane central. It took 10 min to load this enough to see what the vid is about, so better than watching the sweat pour off my arms.
Because a 16" barrel is 16" plus a muzzle device, ending up 17-17.5" if you have anything better other an A2 bird cage. A shorter barrel with a p&w muzzle device is 16".
Wrong answer. A 13.9 inch barrel plus a muzzle device is 16". A 14.5 inch barrel plus a muzzle device is 16". One has 1/2+ inch less rifling than the other and they have the same barrel length. Why would the one with less rifling be preferred?@@bobbertbobberson6725
Innocent question: Does a shorter barrel naturally have more recoil? I have a 13.9 that is obnoxiously over gassed. Curious how much of it is attributed to the gas port and how much is inherit to the length of the barrel. Keep up the good work 🍺
They usually do. Its a combination b/t a more violently cycling action and the lower weight of the shorter barrel and hand guard. Go buy a Superlative Arms clamp on adjustable gas block. I prefer the clamp on over the set screw versions. The just hold better in my experience. If you don't want to use an adjustable gas block then there are options available like a sized down gas tube, adjustable gas key or bolt carrier, or a barrel with a known small gas port size like the Ballistic Advantage Hanson profile barrels. I have a 13.7" Hanson barrel with a carbine gas tube. The port is .054" which is very small. It won't cycle steel cased ammo without a suppressor. I use an H2 buffer with it. Its very low recoil.
A man of sophistication using the world's finest flash hider 👌

Great explanations Caleb, thanks! I hope the next video shows how to torque the muzzle device without having flats on the barrel end ;)

I'd say, if you have the choice, skip out on crush washers. They're a liability all around. Use shims and straight washers, preferably titanium.
Very nice
I would like to see some of your custom built rifles Caleb.
Looks good on the ADM lower🍻

Is there going to be an 11.5" barrel coming out?
I only wish I could get a 13.9 in 300 black out. The brace rule limbo has me to nervous to get the 10.5

Why use a spacer with a 13.9 instead of just getting a 14.5?
Because
Question??? Is a 13.9" 5.56/223 barrel better than a 13.7" 5.56/223 barrel? If yes why? Pros and Cons?

If you’re talking about the old school lower, heard they discontinued it because of functionality issues.

Probly to adjust the gas block
Its where you adjust the gas settings.

WOOO!!
Do they mount on standard AR lowers?
Yes. I've mounted them on regular forged AR lowers as well as Polymer80 lowers.
does it fit on a standard lower?
Yes
Wish yall had a 14.5" upper in 7.62x39, just bought a 16" though and I'm sure ill have a ton of fun with it.
Give 8 inch upper

The objective is to wind up with a 16 inch barrel. Why in the world would you prefer 1/2"+ less rifling.

My 16" barrel with a Surefire muzzle device is 18.25". A 13.9" barrel with the same muzzle device is 16".
I wish you guys would focus more on your HK416 clones. Why not sell complete uppers? Buying piece by piece is super frustrating.
We are, they're coming!
