- We've arrived in Kyiv Ukraine and our first experience is this $25 first class sleeper train to Rivne. Experiencing a Ukrainian train is something you must do as you travel the countryside. These sleeper trains were used all through the soviet times, although first class looked much different back then.

They have them also on the Moldovan trains. But there it seemed like it was a reconstructed 4-bed-compartment with wholes in the walls. Maybe that's a ladder to reach the space above the aisle

Oh man, having lived in Ukraine for over 4 years now, I forget how truly dodgy apartment buildings look from the outside -- and then you get into the apartment and it's actually renovated quite nicely! 😂 It's always fun to see what other people pick up on as the unique peculiarities of Ukraine!
So, it seems you survived travel on UZD, Gz! Some comments to your impressions:
1) Rom-cola - is not really something "special" for ukrainians. For some of us - probably, but not for all. I tasted it once, when was a teenager. It suxx. Beer is better.
2) The coupe - is not the "old style", it's just old ^_^
3) The outlets in the old trains. Even where it is present, like in toilet, it is marked as for the electro-shavers, you still can't charge your notebook from it. In newer trains however, there are outlets in each coupe.

A comfortable direct sleeper train called the Kiev Express links Kiev and Warsaw every night, leaving Kiev main station (also known as Kiev Pass) at 18:48 and arriving at Warsaw Centralna at 09:50 next morning. The train has comfortable Ukrainian 1, 2 & 3 bed sleepers with washbasin.
oh wow i didn't know that ukraine and poland had a connecting train thats working right now?! might have to check that out
@@alexandwhite It doesn't run at the moment. And those coaches are horribly small. You have three beds on one side and that in the gabarits of European railways

There are many places in Ukraine where delicious food is prepared. In supermarkets, almost all products are good. But I will give advice - never buy ready-made food in supermarkets. Like "Olivier". That is, you can buy anything there - but never go to the "Cooking" section.

First class but no electric plug? Very Weird normally in the Philippines, most deluxe and first class buses have electric plug.
