    I discovered this video 12 months ago and since then have followed the routine religiously once a day, missing only two days. I've lived with mild scoliosis for almost 60 years but would estimate reducing about a 15 deg curve to about 10. Jess says that if you're dedicated you will see some changes happening and I've found that to be true. I encourage anyone to follow the routine daily and to be patient. I don't know if you still look in here from time to time, Jess, but I did thank you on your Facebook page earlier. Thankyou once again anyway.

    i’ve been doing this video (and the other one on this channel) for two years now. my curve was about 25 degrees and then it progressed to 39ish degrees or like to the point where if it progressed even a little bit i would need surgery. and let me tell you, this video worked. my curve has gone down to like 34 degrees and i’m not in the danger of surgery anymore. so if you are like how i was, very scared and unsure of the future, just have faith

      @@ChanyaM nope because when it did get to the point that i needed to consider getting a brace, i had almost stopped growing so a brace would have been almost ineffective

    I had been doing this for months along with the more advanced video exercises early this year. My curvature showed improvement, from what my spouse noticed. I later had an arm injury (unrelated to exercise) and had to stop it for the summer, while I did physical therapy (stretching and later weight training) to restore my arms full function. This was successful.
    I'm now back doing the Pilate scoliosis exercises again, and have continued also with my upper body work along with long walks.
    I'm in my late 60s, and am in pretty good shape for my age despite the above challenges. I intend to continue daily exercise including the ones from your videos.

      Hanno the Phoenician I know this is three years old but I just needed to let you know what a great encouragement your comments were! I am nearly 69 and have moderate scoliosis. There is hope for me! I too am in pretty good physical shape but have not addressed the scoliosis til now. I am determined to at least be more flexible and decrease pain in back legs and hips. (Didn’t realize I had scoliosis til about 5 years ago). I was a dental hygienist for 35 years.

    Hi, Jessica.I work out in the gym regularly and couple of weeks ago my muscles in the center of my back hurt so much while doing an exercise, I was literally out of breath, I couldn't move or anything. I visited a doctor and was diagnosed (If I can say that) with scoliosis. I have tried your videos, and It helped me a lot even after first try, so I will keep on doing it. Thank you very much and keep up the good work ;)

    Hi there :)
    I've recently started doing Pilates at home, using your vidoes primarily and then I discovered this video! I have scoliosis. It's not a bad form but it really effects my right shoulder, it slopes down and sticks out quite significantly. I've only been doing this exercise for a couple of days but I really feel the benefits already and if I carry on and i physically see a difference I will be one happy lady!
    I think your vids are amazing and it's such a benefit that you're a physio therapist so I know that everything I do is going to do wonders for my back and posture!
    Thanks again!

    hi Jessica, I'm 56 years old and I have recently been diagnosed with scoliosis in my lower spine and my neck (so an s shape). I have always been super fit and done a lot of high impact exercise classes which I'm now worried has added to the bends in my spine? I also have frozen shoulder at the moment (which is how I came to find out by chance about the scoliosis) after having some x-rays done. The frozen shoulder obviously limits my movement even more but I want to start trying to work on everything together to get back to being able to exercise properly again as soon as possible. I was unaware that you could improve the bend until coming across your channel on here so I am so pleased to find your exercises. I've started doing them as best i can along side frozen shoulder exercises and hoping that I can maybe even get my hips back in alignment as well as my spine straighter as at the moment they are very uneven. Is there any other things you recommend to do or avoid to speed up recovery please?
    nici xx

I honestly believe it is a miracle cure! I am only 22 years old and I suffer from quite bad Sciatica as a result of my Scoliosis, do you have any advise on techniques to help with this?

    • @JessicaValantPilates
      @JessicaValantPilates  9 років тому

      Sarah - that's great to hear and I'm so glad you have been doing Pilates for a while - what a difference it makes! Sciatica can be associated with scoliosis as the nerve becomes pinched from assymetries in the pelvis. The exercises you are doing should help address this as they hopefully decompress the area around the nerve. I of course recommend physical therapy as well! Visit me at www.pilateshappyhour.com for more tips, and you can contact me directly there 😊

    Thank you for this video. It's really great and easy to follow for a beginner like me. I don't know if it will fix my scoliosis but it did relieve my back pain when I tried it. Will definitely be doing this daily. 🙂

    Hi Jessica, I understand this is an old video but I really hope that you reply me. What is the adequate workout period for people with scoliosis? For instance, can I do a full one hour with the exercises you have taught us in both of your 'Improve Scoliosis' videos ? Or is that too much for my back? I HOPE YOU REPLY!! THANK YOU :)

    Hi Jessica, I had been diagnosed with scoliosis for over 8 years now. I have been doing very minor exercises till now. I want to reduce my abdominal fat so that it puts less pressure on my spine. Will these exercises help reduce abdominal fat? Also, I go to the gym for treadmill and cross-trainer. Is that okay?

    Hello Jessica, This looks very good. I did a course of Pilates once but the teacher was an ex-ballet dancer. I had difficulty keeping up! You pace this nicely, thank you. One question - why do you 'inhale' when compressing the diaphragm e.g. bring the head forward? Logically one would do this the other way round. Does this put extra 'squeeze' on the muscles? Or is there another reason?

    Can you do spinal rotation in scoliosis? I can see in this video that some exercises involve some rotation like that one that targets the obliques. My doc said not to do rotation as it further worsens the curve because of the movement itself? hope u'll address my concern nevertheless great video thanks xxx :)

      Each curve is different so you may want to consult your doctor about your specific curve and if this workout would be effective!

    So frustrating. I'm not overweight, but the curve of my spine and how badly my belly is distended because of it makes it nearly impossible for me to sit up with my legs straight out in front of me, let alone do any of the stretches that involve leaning forward.
    God I was hoping this stuff could help me but I'm wondering if it's even gonna make a difference if I can't even come close to doing most of these exercises.
    Doesn't feel like I'm doing good stretches.. just feels like I'm moving in ways that are going to pop things out of place. :/

    Please teach us the exact exercises we need to do everyday in order to perform the splits in the future.PleaaSeeee! All people from youtube just show us how to the splits but not all the exercises we can do everyday to get there.
    To perform the split we need hip and hamstrings exercises?There's something more?

      I actually can't do the splits and don't do it in this video, so I don't teach it to others :).

      You should do specific side shifts to the left in the upper part of your body. See scoliopilates of Katherina Thek on UA-cam or find a trained therapist. And then integrate this into all general exercises.

    Jess, can I do these exercises if I've had surgery for scoliosis? I have hardware in my back, so just wondering if it's safe. (herrington rods on both sides of the spine, done in 1992)

    • @JessicaValantPilates
      @JessicaValantPilates  9 років тому +1

      Versannette Blackman Hi! Without doing an evaluation on your back I couldn't specifically say and would recommend you discuss with your doctor. I have worked with clients with hardware and Herrington Rods in the past and I usually work on stabilizing through the hips and pelvis and upper body, as well as the core. The hardware will prevent a client from moving the spine segmentally, but they can commonly still do exercises in a neutral spine position. I hope that helps!

      It depends on the person and the abdominal strength and the way it's done. At the gym with a heavy medicine ball maybe, but with control and no pain it can be helpful.

    at the wide straddle position I literally cannot bend my body forward, I try stretching and pushing as far as I can (without causing too much pain) - a lot of the positions where you have to sit up right with your legs forward/stretched out I can barely hold myself up. I've actually had surgery on my scoliosis with a titanium rod bolted into my spine though so I try not to push myself too much. I'm thinking of seeing an actual physiotherapist though, but I do pilates and yoga a few times a week, do you think it's worth going into see an actual physio?

    • @JessicaValantPilates
      @JessicaValantPilates  9 років тому

      Leigh Dorei Yes I definitely would recommend seeing a physiotherapist! Good luck!
