One of the most emotionally moving, romantic films of all time. It hits the bullseye on all levels. Well acted, photographed, directed, written and the music fits the story so well that it's dangerous to hear the music in the company of people who won't understand why tears are welling up in your eyes. The only other movie I can compare it to is "Random Harvest". There are so many great scenes that you look forward to on repeated viewings.
You worded that perfectly, Louis. I agree completely. I turned this up while viewing, and my wife came in the room and asked me why I had tears streaming down my face. Not many movies have this effect on me. It is the combination of the music and Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve - the perfect combination. When I saw movie in the the theaters, I immediately went out and bought the soundtrack. Cheers to John Barry for the soundtrack, and Richard Matheson for the screenplay.

This is a classic one of the best movies it makes me feel over the clouds everytime I watch the movie or the clips I think the best scene is when she finds that he did not leave the hotel and she scream Richard and comes running to him was what a movie it is and always be
Yes, she is! I also love Jane Seymour too! When I first saw this wonderful movie for the first time in 1986 that's when I also found out about her, and fell in-love with her too! She is incredibly beautiful. Even still today is right! Me and her are good friends on Facebook! She has me listed as her "Top fan!"
@@Blondie35 Very interesting. Jane Seymore, whose name is Joyce Penelope Frankenberg, is I would say is the most graceful and beautifully styled actress of all time, is of Jewish and Dutch ancestry, who originated from England. The selection of Elise McCenna in this movie, potrayed by Jane Seymore, is the best possible choice as Jane here portrays a very intelligent as well as skillful woman who brings the movie, Somewhare In Time to real life and emotion to those who watch it and are intrigued by it's deep emotional yet tasteful content.
@@danbasta3677 Yes, I agree. All of it is so very true. Yes, I did hear of her real name being Joyce Penelope Frankenberg back in the early 1990s when I was doing some research on her. You know, it's funny that when I was in high school back in the mid 1980's on up to 1990 a lot of people said that I looked just like Jane Seymour?! I saw it myself as well!!! I was really shocked!!! Oh yes, Somewhere In Time is my most favorite romantic movie of all time. I always watch it over and over and again and again. I can't get enough of it. The first time I heard of it, and saw it was back in 1986, and that's when I first fell in love with it....
@Some One No, and her last name is spelled Seymour not Seymore. But no, she today she does not look like the old lady. BTW,, the old lady's real name was Susan French. Jane Seymour is still as beautiful today ever as she was back in 1980 when SIT was released.
One of the most beautiful songs ever. I googled this song to see what year it won the Academy Award for “Best Song “ and was surprised to see it didn’t win and was SHOCKED to see it was not even nominated. Really??? WTF!
The movie came out during an industry strike so this was basically a cult movie because people found it on video and not in the theaters per say. Music probably missed the award shows
Ocwireless11 Thanks for that information, I did not know that. However I am still shocked it was not even nominated given other songs that were in previous years, some that I would consider to be pure trash. I would put this song up with the greats.
This is my life now.. I 16 he 18 now we are 60 and 63 after all the years I found him he came to me now we are going slow but I see the rest of my life with him.. July 15, 2020.
Somewhere in Time, is the Loveliest romantic Film you would wish to watch, the Actors are the finest, and the music seems like it is coming from Heaven, being played by the Angels. This is how romantic Films should be made.
I agree. My ex husband, Dean & I with friends visited the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. The Grand Hotel is sooo beautiful and a such short wonderful drive with tall trees lined the entrance to the Grand Hotel. It was so magical. Our one afternoon on the Island was exciting for me because, of course I loved the Movie. The Movie Somewhere in Time was released a few years after my high school graduation. For those who haven't visited the Mackinac Island it's worth the time/money. To enter the Grand Hotel there was entrance fee of $6 at the time of our visit in the mid 1990's.The rooms were pretty costly for us since we were had plans to visit Eastern Canada and if you like yummy fudge and keepsakes the small town is quite a tourist trip. But... who cares. Enjoy the amazing view. My sweet girlfriend, Colleen brought me a wooden jewelry box with view of the Island on top. I have still that Jewelry Box to this day almost 30 years later. My present husband, John of nearly 20 years I believe was blessing from God. ❤❤
I lost the love of my life in a plane crash. He once told me that this was one of his favorite movies, definitely a romantic. I pray that we will meet again somewhere in time
The last shot did work out a dreamlike vision. ☁️🌥🌤 So heavenly that it almost seems like untrue. Yet, it does remind me the great promise of God; a place with no more terrors nor no more tears. Somewhere just there! 🌈🌈🌈
Goodbyes are only temporary, just as perfection. Genuine Soulmates are never lost to one-another, they’re threaded together by love, and will keep finding each-other, remembering each-other again & again.
Not sure if you play piano, I've had the sheet music (33 years now) for both Somewhere in Time Theme and Rachmaninoff Rhapsody. I play these songs quite often on the piano. It's so soothing and calming. While playing, I recall different parts of the movie and that emotion comes out in the music. It makes me cry as well.
@@robertduran8002 I was in my best friend's wedding & I remember she had this song played as she came down the isle (sp). Oh... so incredible! That's the most meaningful & beautiful wedding I've ever been too!! 💟🎶🥰👍🏻

I'd definitely get lost from the world when I'd play the sax or piano... with no one was around!
I quite agree. This has happened to me in my own personal life two times, and since then, I've completely given up on lov, the word of love and it's total meaning and definition of what love truely is.
My mom took me to see this movie in the movie theatre when it came out (she made sure i was well rounded,LOL). Even at a young age i remember thinking in the car afterwards...what a great movie. I've watched this movie many times over the years and each time it felt like she was right there watching it with me. She passed a year ago and when I hear this music or see this movie I think of her. its funny how a movie or music can transport you back in time.
I constantly watch the film excerpts and I love everything about the film she is wonderful and the music is just right for the film I love it and I love playing it on my computer.
Just hearing these beautiful notes being played and my tears flow. Yes, I found him, at 39. My dreams told me he had blue eyes. I was only 15 at the time. Now we have been together 26 1/2 years, each day a gift. The Dream never ends.
I’m 48 years old and have never gotten over this movie. It haunts my mind and the music also. It haunts it in the most beautiful way. My heart will never be the same again.
This movie was so beautiful and the actors were so exceptional and perfect for their parts. I will never ever forget the beautiful music and the story lives on in my heart !!!
Fell in love with this movie and The Grand Hotel when it first came out I’m a 60 year old man now and I still cry when I see the movie or hear the music It’s magical
I saw this movie as a kid and I fell in love with it, the era, the clothes, the music the story, it was beautiful, made me cry then, still makes me cry now, can't tell you how many times I've watched it over and over, this is a such a heartfelt romantic movie that makes you feel the love they had in the depths of your soul, well written and performed. I can only dream to find a love like that.
perfect couple to a perfect story with the perfect sounds of music even if i don’t exist that time released the movie this one will be cherish for me forever…
I remember coming out of another movie in 1980 and seeing the poster for Somewhere in Time playing in the next theater. I was in my late twenties. I looked at it and thought - no, it seems boring. Forty years passed by, until by chance I viewed some videos here on UA-cam. I borrowed it from the library about a week before Covid-19 hit. From that time until now, I must have watched it twenty times. Besides, I must have gone through 10 boxes of Kleenex. Talk about a powerful movie! Thinking back, I would have appreciated seeing it, but not like now. Well, tomorrow night, it gets played for the twenty-first time. I'm hooked. Thank you for this UA-cam video!
My husband and I loved this movie so much, that when we ordered our Grandfather Clock, we had 'Somewhere in Time' engraved on the brass plate on the clock, along with the year of our wedding...
@@jameyrimmer4280 That's the most meaningful response I've read in here! My best friend got married a while after & had this song played rather than Here Comes the Bride. There wedding is the only one I remember besides mine! I'll probably remember also... what you wrote! Amen🎶🥰✝️
An absolutely perfect film, it's cast, crew and soundtrack... John Barry at his very best. Masterpiece. Jane Seymour will always be my favourite Bond Girl and Christopher Reeve Showed what a great range he had outside of Super-Man.
One of the most romantic films of all time.....❤💏🕰🎬🎼 Somewhere In Time. Christopher Reeves & Jane Seymour, they truly made this film moving with their on screen chemistry. When I think of this film a poem by the British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, published in 1850 comes to mind......I quote " I hold it true, whate'er befall, I feel it when I sorrow most, 'Tis better to have loved and lost. Than never to have loved at all. I truly wish they had made more films like this for the romantics out here!! ❤😊🎻🎬🎼📜✍
The most painful longing It is that of faceless love, without identity What was left behind In another life, In the mists of oblivion. I miss a love that was not born Together But he remained forever In the background of my heart. A kiss for you, unknown Goddess of my days.

Jane Seymour stood out in an uncommon way in this film. All cast members were exceptional; Chris and Jane having excellent screen chemistry, and she was simply gorgeous.

I used to write it to my wife on the fogged up glass of the bathroom. “Is it You?” The movie “Somewhere in Time” seems to transcend time and makes us realize how short a lifetime is.
"Pide al tiempo que vuelva", el gran anhelo de la humanidad, para volver a vivir aquel intenso amor que no se realizó, para volver a ver a nuestros seres queridos aunque sea por un instante, para corregir el error cometido, para decir si en lugar de no, o para pedir perdón, por tantas razones o sin razones de un u otra manera sería maravilloso, bella melodía que no me canso de escuchar.
This is the best short synopsis of the film that I have seen. Thank you for bringing it all back to me. I used to have a video copy of it and I watched it over and over and over again after having first seen it in a theater when it was released. I was always so disappointed with the negative critical reviews and thought for a long time that I was the only person in the world who truly appreciated the beauty of this film and its music. It's been so satisfying in recent years to see that so many others have loved this movie as much as I did.
I remember like it was yesterday, the first time I saw this movie. I was visiting family in Pennsylvania on Memorial Day Weekend and it Came on. From the beginning, I was mesmerized with the music. The concept was surprisingly touching and moved me for the years that followed! I recall family members laughing at me because at the time, Music was Disco and people didn’t have a positive outlook to idealism then. Thank You!
This movie, Somewhare In Time, was written by Richard Matheson who also has an Original Star Trek series connection in the episode, The Enemy Within, first season, was also written as well as produced, and released in 1980. A very poignant time and deep change in everybody's lives at that time that as time itself has gone by, has gotten even much more complicated each and every day to this very day, 2020.
WHEN I STABILIZE.....WHEN I STABILIZE THEN I WILL CRY THE CRY I HAVE TRIED TO SUCCUMB TO FOR DECADES.....THE CRY OVER MY FIRST TWO LOVES AND THE LOSS OF MY BOYHOOD HOME AS I BROUGHT THESE REALITIES DOWN IN MAJOR DEPRESSION OVER THE PURSUIT OF GOD ANSWERING MY PRAYERS. I WENT TO THE BRAINSTEM FOCUSED AND SURE OF IT WHEN I LANDED AT THE DEEPEST POINT OF MY HEART.....MY EMOTIONS....THE BASE OF MY THALAMUS AND HANDED OVER BY FAITH AND BELIEF TO GOD THAT SOMEDAY SOON HE WOULD ANSWER MY PRAYERS TO WIN MY GIRLFRIENDS HEARTS BACK AND NOT TO SELL MY BOYHOOD HOME. THEY ONLY GAVE ME INCREDIBLE ENDURANCE TO PUSH ON THOUGH I WAS SUICIDAL SINCE 1989. YOU GUYS TAKE IT FROM THERE.
This same story being in love with a Ghost has happened to me and maybe to a few other people, long before I understood why all my romantic relationships always turned to disappointment, I would always look upon the woman as perfection everything about her i loved and put her on a pedestal. And little by little with each dis- appointment they would fall from the pedestal, i would do this subconsciously not realizing why i felt the need to turn them into a Goddess only to be disappointed later until i realized I was comparing them to the Virgin Mary and one day I made the connection and for the last 25 years or so the Virgin Mary appears to me in my dreams and everything she tells me and counsels comes out true. I am 61 years old now and have a calling to help the needy the orphaned children, the abused and homeless. My gift to God and the Virgin is to help others without ever falling in love but having fond memories of my past romantic relationships. I am a 3 x Cancer survivor the last one Lymphoma was a 5 year life expectancy and now science has found a cure for Lymphoma and feel very happy and very lucky.

Jane Seymour was amazingly gorgeous, and she's still today. Marvellous actress. Thank you
This is a classic one of the best movies it makes me feel over the clouds everytime I watch the movie or the clips I think the best scene is when she finds that he did not leave the hotel and she scream Richard and comes running to him was what a movie it is and always be
Yes, she is!
Una película única llena de nostalgia y romanticismo con una música preciosa qué te transporta al amor puro!!!.
Hermosísima Película y Música tuve la suerte de verla hace años me encanta enamoré de ella Felicidades a todo el equipo

John Barry. What a talented composer. His music has touched so many lives in so many great movies. Especially this one. Such a beautiful movie.

As Richard Collier said in this movie-"You will. You will".
Goodbyes are only temporary, just as perfection.
Genuine Soulmates are never lost to one-another, they’re threaded together by love, and will keep finding each-other, remembering each-other again & again.
this movie still makes me cry and the music
Oh realy?me also
Not sure if you play piano, I've had the sheet music (33 years now) for both Somewhere in Time Theme and Rachmaninoff Rhapsody. I play these songs quite often on the piano. It's so soothing and calming. While playing, I recall different parts of the movie and that emotion comes out in the music. It makes me cry as well.

I was in my best friend's wedding & I remember she had this song played as she came down the isle (sp). Oh... so incredible! That's the most meaningful & beautiful wedding I've ever been too!! 💟🎶🥰👍🏻

Oh yeah... I had organ lesions when I was in 2nd grade. I hated it! Father's choice, not mine.
I began to learn instruments in middle school and eventually the love of my life began a saxophone.🎼🎷🎵✌🏼🤓💖❗I never had piano lessons but taught myself well enough to do okay.
I'd definitely get lost from the world when I'd play the sax or piano... with no one was around!
We used the music in our final spring dance program in college. Wish we would have had men that could pas de deux....

I agree.

Just hearing these beautiful notes being played and my tears flow. Yes, I found him, at 39. My dreams told me he had blue eyes. I was only 15 at the time. Now we have been together 26 1/2 years, each day a gift. The Dream never ends.

🙏😢💕💝
My husband and I loved this movie so much, that when we ordered our Grandfather Clock, we had 'Somewhere in Time' engraved on the brass plate on the clock, along with the year of our wedding...

One of the most beutiful love movies I've ever seen. The first time I saw her I was newly married, at the end of December 1980. A real gem.

The most painful longing
It is that of faceless love, without identity
What was left behind

In the mists of oblivion.
I miss a love that was not born
Together
But he remained forever
In the background of my heart.
A kiss for you, unknown Goddess of my days.

Wonderful....what a beautiful lady.....
I used to write it to my wife on the fogged up glass of the bathroom. “Is it You?” The movie “Somewhere in Time” seems to transcend time and makes us realize how short a lifetime is.
RIP Christopher Reeves. A beautiful actor.
"Pide al tiempo que vuelva", el gran anhelo de la humanidad, para volver a vivir aquel intenso amor que no se realizó, para volver a ver a nuestros seres queridos aunque sea por un instante, para corregir el error cometido, para decir si en lugar de no, o para pedir perdón, por tantas razones o sin razones de un u otra manera sería maravilloso, bella melodía que no me canso de escuchar.

The best romantic film for me, actors and wonderful music. The film of my life
This is the best short synopsis of the film that I have seen.
It's been almost 25 yrs now when I watch this movie and still giving me goosebumps everytime I hear the song...come back to me.....
AS YOU CAN SEE THEY WERE NOT ANSWERED BUT IN **3 1/2 ** YEARS IT BECAME PROPHETIC WHEN I FIRST TIME READ JEREMIAH CH.30 AND ZECHARIAH CH.3 AND OTHERS. THEY ONLY GAVE ME INCREDIBLE ENDURANCE TO PUSH ON THOUGH I WAS SUICIDAL SINCE 1989. YOU GUYS TAKE IT FROM THERE.

This same story being in love with a Ghost has happened to me and maybe to a few other people, long before
I understood why all my romantic relationships always turned to disappointment, I would always look upon the
woman as perfection everything about her i loved and put her on a pedestal. And little by little with each dis-
appointment they would fall from the pedestal, i would do this subconsciously not realizing why i felt the need
to turn them into a Goddess only to be disappointed later until i realized I was comparing them to the Virgin Mary
and one day I made the connection and for the last 25 years or so the Virgin Mary appears to me in my dreams and
everything she tells me and counsels comes out true. I am 61 years old now and have a calling to help the needy
the orphaned children, the abused and homeless. My gift to God and the Virgin is to help others without ever falling
in love but having fond memories of my past romantic relationships. I am a 3 x Cancer survivor the last one Lymphoma
was a 5 year life expectancy and now science has found a cure for Lymphoma and feel very happy and very lucky.
