This is "Lazy Man's Card Trick", published in Harry Lorayne's "Close-up Card Magic" (1962). This is actually not a Harry Lorayne effect, as it was revealed that Al Koran (who we've spoken about on this channel before as "the man who fooled Albert Einstein) taught Harry Lorayne the effect and has published his handling of the effect in "Abra No. 450" (1954) under the name, "The Lazy Magician Does A Card Trick." But the original concept came from neither, as Jack Miller was the one behind it.
I actually changed a bit of the handling so then the initial loss of the selection into the deck would be less awkward. I also changed it so that you wouldn't necessarily have to turn the deck face-up, but it does require the spectator to hand the deck back to you.
If you're interested in this effect, it is part of "Close-up Card Magic", which is sold as an eBook.
