Jazirian's riddle is the entire basis for my Yuan-ti Pureblood Celestial patron Warlock. He is climbing the mountain and got to Uroboros but incorrectly answered the riddle so Jazirian sent him back to the mortal realm to live again and every time he dies he gets another shot at the riddle. But he's never born with memory of his previous life so most of his lives he doesn't even know he's suppose to be looking for the answers. The Yuan-ti character went from Chaotic evil(as yuan-ti tend to be) to lawful good after a chance meeting with a couatl which unlocked his memories of Uroboros(but not his past lives). So he's a Lawful good Yuan-ti Celestial(couatl) patron Warlock. His existence bends the other player's minds because he's not suppose to be possible to exist.

I love the concept of Celestia, an afterlife that demands more of the petitioner than perhaps any other. Celestia is a nice place to live, but that isn't its purpose. If you think about it, the multiverse is just vast, infinite and not even the gods know how far it stretches... How is possible for you to even make the difference for the whole if your entire existence is miserable? The answer is because you are not doing to change the multiverse, but because is just simple the right thing to do

In all fairness, most of this stuff doesn't really stand up much to logical scrutiny. I actually like to play up the apparent hypocrisy - like why do these planes get to decide what "good" is? Isn't it pretty sketchy how the people of the material plane are duped into not deciding for themselves what's good for them?
I like to see Mount Celestia as not just one faction but a unique location which houses many factions.
Also, if you watch AJ Pickets vid on Mt. Celestia he'll say how some lore states that petitioners to the Outer Planes lose their memories when they get there - which is actually kind of terrifying. It implies what you did in life didn't really matter in the end - that your soul was pre-destined to go to Mt. Celestia.
So if your soul is already destined for an outer plane, why bother adhering to a certain morality? If you're already considering this and you're already destined for the Nine Hells, why not do everything in your power to extend your life and save yourself?

I had an idea of an arc for an NPC demon character who is neutral good (long story how they got there from their previously chaotic evil state) at the time to essentially climb mount celestia as a means to prove their willingness to reform. Needless to say, the holy water didn't take too well as not only is the demon... a demon, but is also one of the fire aspect (Homebrew) and is vulnerable to water. (Enough that rain deals damage) As part of the test he was given the unlimited capacity to resurect after death (The demon is immortal, but falls back to his demiplane each time he dies usually. A whole summoning ritual is required to bring him back or he can cast his own spell after 2 days of meditation (48 minutes of regular plane time), but the immense pain just getting to the island would have been immense.
Other player characters get to intereact with this demon on their journey and recieve some great wisdom and if the player characters have previously engaged with this NPC and have helped and that the NPC has had a positive experience, the demon NPC will join the player characters and help them on their journey.
I'm thinking for the fourth mountains test, the NPC will have to sever their connection to the demi plane rendering them mortal before taking the leap of faith.
I can't wait for the next video to get some more ideas! Plenty of stuff to read in the meantime though.

The mountain is not for the Neutral Good, it is for the Lawful Good.

    • @DemonXeron
      @DemonXeron 2 роки тому +8

@@jonathancampbell5231 The demon is technically extraplanar (Technically a kind of demigod (Does not obtain their power through worship though), all homebrew). Only calls themselves a demon as they don't want to call themselves anything else until they have reformed. Their looks never change in the process. Think fire lord Imix but with no mouth (Like a protoss in starcraft) and dart stone plate armour. Maybe like you would imagine a lava elemental to look like, but instead of lava or fire it is plasma like in a star that runs through their veins. There are many demons like this one (in a homebrew plane), but this is the only one to have reformed in this way and only one of few to have a demiplane.
Part of the reformation process is becoming lawful, which is essentially the hardest part the demon has to come to terms with (Though they want to)
The demon did not reach the plane through normal means after all, so they can be any alignment on entering

Either way, it's a sliding scale, and not all "good" people are trying to get to the top of Mt. Celestia, just like not all "evil" people are out sacrificing babies to Asmodeus.
Also, it's not just an up/down scale, Law and Chaos factor in too. The paths of Mount Celestia are a very nice concept, and following one of them would definitely be interesting for some PCs.
Putting aside the paths, Mount Celestia may appear to be too peaceful a place to offer any challenge for adventurers. But that's not necessarily the case. PCs who're not especially law-abiding yet have to visit Mount Celestia for some reason could easily come into conflict with the locals. While fighting the archons and the other defenders of the plane wouldn't be much fun, having to outwit them could be quite interesting.

My current Pathfinder character is a monk/cleric who grew up essentially Taoist, but fell to worshipping the Great Old One Hastur. He's trying to break away from the King in Yellow by returning to the wisdom he learned in his youth, and cultivating divine power within himself. He had to go through ego death to erase the Yellow Sign Hastur had written on his heart, and to bring out his own divine spark.
Now not only does he grant himself and his students spells as if he were a god, his alignment counts as whatever alignment benefits him the most, as in giving himself up he can become whatever he needs to be.
