Seriously, that thing would be a bloody nightmare to fight. I think FromSoft managed to break me, because I can’t stop laughing at how many times I’m gonna die horrifically trying to bring it down.
Watching this after the game released i remember thinking, “some of these bosses look too wierd for a fromsoft game”. I have since played elden ring and these seem tame in comparison
Not really: The Drowned and Nuckelavee here are more imaginative than the mounted enemies in ER, Elemer's/Margit's multiple encounters are much lamer versions of what Pesta's could've been, while Herne and Erda are much cooler and more creative environmental bosses than the dragons, tree spirits or Fallingstars in-game, and that's not even all of the fake bosses. From should go all out crazy for their next original IP, cause they really did seem to limit themselves somewhat outside of the Remembrance/main bosses in ER.
@@icecreamvendor8245 They did not limit themselves, I think Astel, Rykard, Placidusax, Regal Ancestor spirit, Malenia, Fire Giant and much more are proof of that.
@@nahelb1248 The bosses described in these concepts would have taken too much technical investment to not have been remembrance bosses. But yeah mini bosses really dropped off in game after reaching Altus. Knowing Miyazaki he probably had some crazy stuff planned which they didn't have time for. Everytime I see a repeat boss I wonder what fromsoft originally had planned for that arena.
List hasn't even begun and you've already won me over with the first image of the video. Just the idea of a giant fisherman swinging their fishing rod at you. I would love such a boss fight.
I like that you don't even comment on the giant axe the man is carrying XD But I second the opinion. A man attacking with a fishing rod without making it comical would be super cool!
Looking back, the nuckalavee works even better than it did when this video was first made. In the network test people have been saying both bleed, and being dismounted are big parts of the gameplay. Both of these are incorporated into the fight. It's almost like the creator somehow knew about the games mechanics before they were shown haha. We'll have to see if from will create anything on that level for ER.
Damn, it's an honour to even be inside the top 100 with the absolutely insane quality of work on show here. Well done, you impossibly talented people, you. (Mine was THE WOUNDED KING at 28:24)
Man, that second place was amazing, it felt like I was looking at actual concept art. Definitely my top 1 out of all of these, especially with those indepth boss weapons and battle phases. I admit that Saoidh is more "soulslike" but god dang, that presentation of Nuckealavee was definitely the #1 in my book. Really loved Pesta as well. I don't even think that the dark valkyrie deserves to share the #3 with that masterpiece, no offense. Sure, it had gorgeous art, but the way you described Pesta was just so much more awe-inspiring to me. It was just so fitting, considering you have to find clues and trail it to even learn of it's existence. Pesta and Nuckealavee had such great presentations that I could practically see the boss fight in my head. It's not that I dislike the generic swamp skeleton, but no matter how well it fits the lore, the ones before it were just so much greater in my eyes.
Interesting how the bosses that are almost certain to be connected to plague or poison zones that everyone’s definitely going to hate are the most popular. 😏 Guess we really do have a love/hate relationship with poison swamps.😆
Oh absolutely, number 2 should have won by far, and the Pesta Boss was definetly my top 2, i was wondering who topped the number 2 but was left waiting, never happened, number 2 was so damn good I couldn't even get excited for number 1.
I cant wait for everyone to be disappointed when the game's lore is NOTHING like what we made it up to be and are mildly annoyed because it could never be as good as in our heads.
Yo, Number 6 is nuts. Makes me wonder if there was ever a 3D action game where you play with a musical keyboard. And fight them to the tune, I think it would be great stuff for teaching/learning music too.
After playing the dlc, the first thing I thought of when entering the abyssal woods was this 7:24. Kinda wish they did something more similar to this but still the experience was still great, very atmospheric.
Wow, I was thinking the EXACT same thing! It was just too perfect for such a boss to appear, "don't let it see you" "it can't even be touched" I was certain something similar was gonna appear in that waterfall section, but sadly it was just empty land. The part where you're reaching the manse and there's thick fog covering the area, hiding the yellow lantern guys...I thought a jumpscare showing this monstrosity would happen, but again, sadly that was not the case.
Such amazing work! I hope the artist of the number 2 is secretly an artist at FromSoftware and this was a sneak peak and that is why he doesnt have a portfolio.
@@changesforthebetter7172 Thank you, i had seen some of his videos before, but not that one. Already used it (3 Months ago). It burned some resources, and was a cool fight (even cooler for the Mounted Paladin), but I used a homebrew of it. Didn't knew of the Original D&D Nuckelavee...
7:00 Herne would have fit perfectly in the abyssal woods, what with Torrent being afraid and the creepy messages. Imagine hearing this thing howl, seeing it speed across the area, and having to evade its watchful eyes? The Knockin at 12:49 would have also been fitting in the underwater section of shadowkeep, too bad it was just a tree spirit :( Lastly, the Nikhil from 20:54 could easily replace "Demi-human queen Marigga" from Cerulean coast. The entire area is kinda like the one described in the video. DLC is still great, but I really hope Fromsoftware branches out more in the future when it comes to diversifying the designs of their bosses, like Romina and the Dancing Lion were really unique! Metyr and the knight guarding St. Trina were also pretty good.
Nikhil is already in the game (kind of) as the Putrescent Knight But that abomination in abyssal woods is actually a great idea. And the Star Child as a young Alabaster Lord.
@Not Alfie no. You as an individual are unique, but not original; there are many humans but you are the only one like yourself. Making a weapon that’s literally two rocks on top of each other tied together with a stick would be original, but not particularly unique.
That green...horse...thing? I mean, fucking hells, man. What even is that?! Hadn’t seen nightmare fuel like that since the Magic Eldritch Moon set released. I approve!👍
28:14 Thank you for featuring my Chained Nightmare in your video! (and right after the winner nonetheless) Congratulations to everyone, win or no win these are some awesome artworks!
Shame you didn’t get in top ten but that is pretty amazing! If I had any money I’d ask if I can commission D&D stuff from ya but Yknow real broke hours
@@smithanimal Typically, the kind of stuff I would have commissioned would be character references, or references for homebrewed monsters. Additionally, it can be nice to commission a group shot of all of your PCs together! While a reference image certainly isnt required, sometimes it can add to the experience to know what your friends look like for sure.
Plus, sometimes a badass moment happens and you want it immortalised or whatever. Facing down a dragon solo and managing to finish it off, or something.
I was thinking about this and I think it's a little unfair comparing the allure of a concept art to an actual in game asset. I'm pretty sure you could make concept art of kindred of rot, astel, regal spirit, fortissax, Malenia, grafted scion, etc that would look mind boggling in the absence of their in game versions.
@@makxspeed Agreed. I mean this was froms first attempt at open world bosses and it seemed like they played it safe with most being either horseman or dragon. Hopefully they'll try more creative things in the future.
The Nuckelavee would have been a perfect boss for Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula. Imagine fighting that horror on the shores beneath the castle instead of some jackoff Leonine.
I love that Vaati makes an effort to support artists with these competitions and he also shouts out their other artwork in these videos. He's really just an all around nice guy.
There really is some amazing work here, but I trust that Miyazaki and GRRM together can come up with some truly great stories and creatures for Elden Ring
Having seen every boss in the game now through many VODs, I honestly think the vast majority of these bosses are far more interesting. Maybe not their place in the game, but in isolation... especially the musical boss!
I would actually switch places with 1 and 2. It's just insane how a comunity can do so much wonderful work! It's so cool and i hope these people will make conceptart for games in the future since they have tremendous skill!
The second place boss reminds me so much of Orphan of Kos. The setting is in a beach thing and he looks weird and lovecraftian like the theme from Bloodborne.
# 6 was insane. Somebody better email this to Miyazaki, but I’m sure he knows about this channel already. But honestly I wouldn’t be mad at all if he saw this video and decided to wait another year or two to release it.
Yep, these entries are from some absurdly talented people. I personally love Erda's Ring (#6) , it really was just something set apart by itself. I feel both awed and pathetic by comparison, even by those that didn't land in the top 10.
my favorite boss from elden ring is george rr martin wielding a typewriter welded to the end of a cane very important to the lore very BEAUITIFUL desingng
Hopefully George will made an inside-joke character bout himself... A writer who died & didnt finish his work. In his room, u'll enter a water hole portal & enter his mind where u'll help him finishes his story...
You have 2 minutes to provide a motivational dialogue to spur the boss into action but if you fail... he applies a paralytic effect that doesn't diminish until he FINISHES the book.
these are so conceptually good i fear i may feel "cheated" when Elden Ring eventualy drops i mean no.6 would be actualy groundbreaking for the entire "formula" of bossfights if done right. I can't think of a single exemple in recent times that incoporates that sort of approach to sound-themed bosses in recent vidya history. Hell the closest one i got is Dancer of the boreal valley, which if you didn't know, is hard the way she is mostly because her theme plays in a different time signature than ALL of the other bosses before her, thus throwing the player's sense of rythm and momentum off balance through *pure.fucking.music.*
When he said the arena was a giant lindwurm, I was picturing it almost as a fight on top of a moving train. This dragon barreling through the mist as you try to stay on its back with wind attacks whipping at you from outside your view...
there's no reason to feel cheated though, many of these sound amazing, but they are allowing to be this amazind and groundbreaking because they don't need to actually be made and put in the game. Like the plague one for example, can you imagine a boss that organically moves through the open world and permanently changes entire villages it happens to pass by? I'm sure we can, but making that would be a nightmare. I hope they do attempt to do a wandering boss in some way though
Vaati has still left some Sekiro things vacant. 1 particular theory (he does not even allude to) comes to mind, but i cant help but wonder if he is holding out for DLC to get into it. Vaati, its time to talk about Wolf, Buddha, and Takeru. :)
I actually love the 2nd place entry, it looks fantastic, I would be so happy to see a boss like that in a game, it just seems so impactful and creepy in the best kind of way and that concept art for it on the beach is fantastic, the only think I think would be able to make that better is seeing the other forms in that style, but that's a lot of work of course, just that alone is mind blowing
Feel like the second entry got cheated because it had more to it, with a much cooler arena, boss design and abilities , how the boss fight could be altered on how you did battle, it even added weapons and replay ability, etc
Number 2 absolutely should have won, after that one I was so exited to see who topped it, but i was left waiting, It did not got any better all, it couldn't have ,a good one for sure, but definitely not better than the second place.
Your presentation skills are unmatched. I really felt myself being drawn into each boss that has been put forward. My favourite would have to be No. 2. I was blown away, no other words can describe my emotions while watching. I cannot wait for Elden Ring! Bring it on FromSoft!
Personally I liked Pester/Phantom Queen the most. I can imagine it so well in the game and love that it would feature diffrent types of gameplay to confront her. First tracking her, then finally confronting her. A mechanic to get you hyped for the fight fitting perfectly in a open world. And the lore could be so wonderful. If they gave us some lore beforehand about Pester and the Phantom Queen separatly, that moment you realize they are the same, and feeling your brain work as it tries to fit the lore so far together to make sense...
Hey Vaati, why not make a series out of all the submissions you received? I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'd love to see more of these videos where you go over the different pieces that were submitted! Plus it helps the artists out that put a great amount of time and effort into their work :D Loving the vids man, all aboard the ER hype train!
The wind themed one is easily the best on the list (for me at least, though it would need some tweaking) I genuinely want to see this in the game, like so badly.
we should all come together and make our own game lmao. honestly there's so much fake lore, and all these boss designs are amazing. more then enough content for a game and I would love to see them in one. I feel like they're too good to not be in a game.
I was tearing up throughout the whole video. It's just insane to see so much passion and originality being put forward for Elden Ring. Despite all the gid guds, Souls games fanbase is really one of the greatest out there, and it makes me happy to be a part of it.
souls fanbase is one of the best ? Vaati fanbase maybe... But you rarely see fans as toxic as souls fanboys claiming they are real gamers, that souls games are not juste about difficulty, they are art, not like other trash games blablabla Just check the Sekiro fb group... Game awards drove them crazy, bitching on Death Stranding and people enjoying the game...
//// sure thing, but because of the difficulty of the games, Souls fans have « a reason » to think they are better than everyone else. Same thing with Rick and Morty with their big brains. Because of the unicity of the games/show/..., the fanbase is more agressive towards people who think differently.
//// I agree for everything you say, but that doesn’t justify mocking people who enjoy Death Stranding even if there is no complexe gameplay and difficulty and treat them like ape enjoying playing with shit. And yes, that’s also the point of R&M, but when someone doesn’t like the serie, they say he’s just too dumb... There is toxicity in every community but those are an example of what in can be
//// sure, no game is perfect. But the main argument I’ve read is « lol ur stupid walking simulator lmao » And if you mention one default in a souls game, unless it’s the 2, they’ll call you a rager that know nothing. Not everyone of course.
I got a concept for boss/npc helpers but not like summons. I'll use the Star Child as an example. Like in the video if you spare his life he'll eventually get captured right? What if there was an optional mission to free him, and once you do you have dialogue around the lines of "I still despise you, but I am in your debt." Later on in the story with a specific boss, he comes in and helps you. From here three things can happen 1: You both kill the boss and the Star Child gives you an item (could be a weapon, a material to make a weapon, or a token of friendship) But he is badly injured and once you got back to his boss room you see him slowly dying and his last word to would be "Thank You." 2: He dies during the fight and never comes back even after you die yourself. You got back to his boss room to see all the fairies either having a funeral or a celebration (you decide) And 3: If you die while he is still alive and return to his boss room, you'll see him injured and barely able to get up. He'll say "I thought you were stronger and yet you left me to die. Leave this place and never return" What do you think? I like the idea if you spare/help certain npcs and bosses they'll all come together and help you with the final boss at the end of at the story.
Blasphemous is so good! They are working on free dlc too. I can't believe you were able to choose only 10 artists. I can't believe how good these guys are.... all of the top 100 are ridiculously talented.
really cant wait for the lore videos to start being rolled out. been reading and listening to whatever i can find but stringing it all together can be difficult.
23:06 if From Software doesnt put this boss fight into their game, I'll be extremely sad. For years they've tried and failed to replicate a gank boss fight as memorable, challenging, and loved as Ornstein and Smough. This is it.
Number 2 looks and sounds way more interesting than the actual Putrescent Knight lol. I would honestly love it if we could take all these boss concepts with their respective artists collaborating in an indie souls-like project, they all clearly share very similar folklore inspirations

Number 2 is my favorite. I just love that creature i just simply do. Dungeons and dragons vs knights in stories are awesome but the Nuckelavee mixed with lovecraft? that's just hit every piece in my spine and every fiber of my being! are the artworks available somewhere? I need both the one belonging to Amdrei and Daniel ruger.
Wanna know as well
In the description he has a imgur link, not sure if that is enough tho.
I really want the Nuckelavee to be an actual boss, that was really cool
Seriously, that thing would be a bloody nightmare to fight. I think FromSoft managed to break me, because I can’t stop laughing at how many times I’m gonna die horrifically trying to bring it down.
@Eddie still, you would need 4 playthroughs to have all weapons on your person, sign me up
I never seen a boss like that. Like really, in any game ever
@Eddie only if the creators saw this amazing shit would be goty in 2 seconds
Outstanding
I like how the number 2 can be regarded as the putrescent knight in the dlc.
When i saw it, the fight reminded me of this video.
@@lahunica2726 Those are all remembrance/main bosses. He said Fromsoftware limited themselves outside of those (I agree).
@@nahelb1248 The bosses described in these concepts would have taken too much technical investment to not have been remembrance bosses. But yeah mini bosses really dropped off in game after reaching Altus. Knowing Miyazaki he probably had some crazy stuff planned which they didn't have time for. Just the idea of a giant fisherman swinging their fishing rod at you. I would love such a boss fight.
I like that you don't even comment on the giant axe the man is carrying XD But I second the opinion. A man attacking with a fishing rod without making it comical would be super cool!
And this alone, shall be the grim reminder, of how heavy is the weight this game carries on it's shoulders.

You deserve the cred man. That picture is insanely good!
I’d love to see a backstory for this boss great job 🔥🔥
I really like your entry!
Your entry was amazing!
Colton Williams I guess we all developed some sort of Stockholm syndrome
Oh absolutely, number 2 should have won by far, and the Pesta Boss was definetly my top 2, i was wondering who topped the number 2 but was left waiting, never happened, number 2 was so damn good I couldn't even get excited for number 1.
God I can’t wait to waste my life on this game

It was just too perfect for such a boss to appear, "don't let it see you" "it can't even be touched"
I was certain something similar was gonna appear in that waterfall section, but sadly it was just empty land.
That good and detailed without and social media / ways to find hem... I think you're on to something here!

The Knockin at 12:49 would have also been fitting in the underwater section of shadowkeep, too bad it was just a tree spirit :(
Lastly, the Nikhil from 20:54 could easily replace "Demi-human queen Marigga" from Cerulean coast.
Nikhil is already in the game (kind of) as the Putrescent Knight
But that abomination in abyssal woods is actually a great idea.
And the Star Child as a young Alabaster Lord.

You might also be able to commission miniatures of your characters from specific artists, which can be good if you're using a grid.
Although i love elden, im still a bit sad there weren’t any bosses like this
I was thinking about this and I think it's a little unfair comparing the allure of a concept art to an actual in game asset. I'm pretty sure you could make concept art of kindred of rot, astel, regal spirit, fortissax, Malenia, grafted scion, etc that would look mind boggling in the absence of their in game versions.

I feel both awed and pathetic by comparison, even by those that didn't land in the top 10.

So elegant, so elegiac, the artistic successor to the Dancer of the Boreal Valley
But there's a secret boss if you finish the game in less than 8 hours, you get to fight David Benioff and Dan Weiss and get the bad ending.
these are so conceptually good i fear i may feel "cheated" when Elden Ring eventualy drops
i mean no.6 would be actualy groundbreaking for the entire "formula" of bossfights if done right.
What's her time signature

there's no reason to feel cheated though, many of these sound amazing, but they are allowing to be this amazind and groundbreaking because they don't need to actually be made and put in the game. Like the plague one for example, can you imagine a boss that organically moves through the open world and permanently changes entire villages it happens to pass by? I'm sure we can, but making that would be a nightmare.
I hope they do attempt to do a wandering boss in some way though

I actually love the 2nd place entry, it looks fantastic, I would be so happy to see a boss like that in a game, it just seems so impactful and creepy in the best kind of way and that concept art for it on the beach is fantastic, the only think I think would be able to make that better is seeing the other forms in that style, but that's a lot of work of course, just that alone is mind blowing
All of these entries were amazing to put it mildly, but it was number 6 and number 2 that really blew my mind across the wall behind me.

I was tearing up throughout the whole video. It's just insane to see so much passion and originality being put forward for Elden Ring. Despite all the gid guds, Souls games fanbase is really one of the greatest out there, and it makes me happy to be a part of it.
Rustem Agayev I think the git gud and Casul jokes are a good thing
souls fanbase is one of the best ? Vaati fanbase maybe... But you rarely see fans as toxic as souls fanboys claiming they are real gamers, that souls games are not juste about difficulty, they are art, not like other trash games blablabla
Just check the Sekiro fb group...
But the main argument I’ve read is « lol ur stupid walking simulator lmao »
And if you mention one default in a souls game, unless it’s the 2, they’ll call you a rager that know nothing. Not everyone of course.
"I imagine they made the Sekiro underwater mechanics for use in Elden Ring."
*Yeah... about that...*
The person who made the second placed entry is so badass, sends the most beautiful entry and just goes "i did it for funsies"
From here three things can happen
1: You both kill the boss and the Star Child gives you an item (could be a weapon, a material to make a weapon, or a token of friendship) But he is badly injured and once you got back to his boss room you see him slowly dying and his last word to would be "Thank You."
2: He dies during the fight and never comes back even after you die yourself. You got back to his boss room to see all the fairies either having a funeral or a celebration (you decide)
And 3: If you die while he is still alive and return to his boss room, you'll see him injured and barely able to get up. He'll say "I thought you were stronger and yet you left me to die. Leave this place and never return"
What do you think? I like the idea if you spare/help certain npcs and bosses they'll all come together and help you with the final boss at the end of at the story.
Blasphemous is so good! They are working on free dlc too. I can't believe you were able to choose only 10 artists. I can't believe how good these guys are.... all of the top 100 are ridiculously talented.
