WOW! About to hit 5 years and 1.3 million views. I'm so glad I have been able to help so many people. Thank you to everyone who has subscribed, liked and commented!! It means a lot to me. Please keep it up. I have been away for a while but am back creating new content. I will have new FORD F series videos out soon. Stay safe in these crazy times.
Well, honestly, I didn't do this video to make money. I was just messing around trying to do my part to pay back all the youtube community that I have learned from over the years. I had no idea it would ever make a dime. It wasn't until about a month ago that I logged into my adsense account and realized that I was actually getting paid. It's not a lot but did pay for a new camera and sound equipment. Now I just have to make 100 more million view videos and I can retire.
Awesome. I just bought a 2021 F150 and thought it was strange that I couldn't get behind that seat. This hack worked for me and took only a couple minutes. Thanks for the great Tip.
dealers don't know much about their products - their purpose in life is to gouge customers and tack on ridiculous charges to every transaction they can.
I’d rather talk to someone like this guy than a dealer any day. It’s amazing how little they know, even more disturbing is how little they care to educate themselves on their own product
I just got a 2013. The jack and it’s hard storage case were mounted under the seat as well taking up even more room. This is fantastic and I’d never heard of it before. Thank you for sharing!!
Holy crap great little hack. Just picked up a 2017 yesterday and it is the same. Took me 5 minutes. That gives you so much more room. Even though this is an old video it is still relevant for the 2017s Thanks
Thank you so much for making this video! I bought a 2013 F150 in 2018 from a Ford Dealer. No owners manual or instructions of any kind came with the truck. I saw a video on UA-cam where the guy said the back seat would fold down. He didn't say how, just that it was very difficult. I went to the Ford Dealer and the Service Manager looked at my trucks back seat and said that my truck seat wouldn't do that. I have been surfing UA-cam ever since, until I found your video. I cannot thank you enough!
I've been looking for a crew cab and researching for months. I finally fought a 2010 f150 supercrew and this is by far the best tip I've seen yet. Thank you!
Good video, great tip. I had no idea that space was back there. And your paracord tip is outstanding! UPDATE 1: I did the mod today, easier than I expected. Works exactly as advertised in this vid. Only tricky part was getting fingers down behind the seat--tight fit!--and finding the right place to pull up on the latch. Just took some touchy-feel exploration to figure it out. Looking forward to utilizing that extra, fairly discreet space. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! UPDATE 2 (Aug 21, 2017): This mod works great if you're only occasionally accessing the space behind the rear seat. I positioned some HAM radio gear back there, along with some other tools that benefited from the discreet storage. However, I found that I was accessing the space multiple times a week, and I couldn't find a solid enough key ring of the right size to fit through the pin. Result: the undersized key rings inevitably bent and distorted from the pressure exerted, and I went through a couple fairly fast. I needed something more durable, and in another UA-cam video came across the F150 Rear Seat Latch Mod from BuiltRight Industries. Ordered two of them, got them quickly, installed the pair in about 7-8 minutes. These are GREAT!!! Not cheap, but they're built well and are classy--what Ford should put into these trucks in the first place. If you're accessing that behind-seat storage only occasionally, then go with the mod in this video from heyjacks. If you're getting into that space repeatedly, you'd probably benefit from the BuiltRight F150 Seat Latch Mod. Just search for them on UA-cam, and you'll find their Installation Guide video, and you'll see what I mean. I don't mean to detract from heyjacks' great video on the FREE mod he demonstrated; it's a GREAT option at zero cost. I'm just trying to let other users know that there's another (albeit more expensive) option for those that need more durability. For the record: I have absolutely ZERO relationship with BuiltRight Industries in any way, except as a satisfied purchaser, installer and user of their product. No fees, no considerations, etc.
Thank you heyjacks! I show to my Daddy that complain of exactly what you show us. No storage inside his 2014 King Ranch. He didn't know it was there, and is HIS TRUCK! I show him your UA-cam video and he is SO HAPPY now! So, thank you!
This video was awesome! Thank you so much. I was just trying to figure out where to put my jumper cables and tow rope without taking up the valuable space under that seat. You're the man!
This is simply awesome! I've been frustrated with the lack of storage for the utility items (tow rope and jumpers) and had no idea the backs were able to fold down! This solves it all - GREAT TIP!
Great tip! as mentioned below, I can finally clean the bottom of the back windows. I used a box end wrench to pull the pin initially. I couldn't get enough leverage to pull with my finger, but located the pin and slid the end of the wrench over it and pulled. Worked perfectly.
Thank you for sharing this. I will be doing this tomorrow. Happy Valentine's Day 2018. You have definitely paid it back and helped this disabled veteran be able to finally carry my jumper cables and a few other tools.
I thank you friend My husband passed suddenly at only 49 yrs old and I now drive his truck. I was afraid to drive it before because it seemed so big . But now I refuse to drive anything else . I see him everytime I look at the truck and trying my very best to maintain it . I just bought new seat covers and your video was very helpful . Bless
I found that they also made kits for this after seeing your video. I just bought a 2011, so after seeing this you inspired me to do this with mine too. I did some modifications to your set up to dress it up. After cutting the paracord I sealed the ends with heat shrink tape. I then looped the cord in side by side fashion at the ends and sewed them together creating loops on each end for the rings. Then where I had sewn the ends to the main length, covered with another layer of shrink tape. They are functional and they look like they were factory installed. Thanks for the video!
I have a 2017 F150 Lariat. This hack works! I did it and I can now get whatever I need from behind my back seat. My passengers side back seat already has a nice lever to pull and it unlatches, but the drivers side does not. I did EXACTLY what you did and it works! Thanks for posting!!
Thanks for this video! I asked my nephew 2-3 years ago, who was a Ford mechanic, if this was possible, and he told me it wasn't. I had a feeling it was. And thanks to you and this video, I did this to mine earlier today.
Dude, I did this hack just today. Very industrious. I knew the seats laid down but was a pain to get to. Thanks for the idea. A word to the wise... drilling the pin is tedious. Start with the smallest bit and work up to a bigger bit. Once the hole gets started, it's not too bad to drill.
I just want to thank everyone for the comments. I was just messing around when I made this video. I can't believe that it has almost 70K views. I guess a lot of people have this same problem / question. I will be making an update video soon that incorporates some suggestions and alternative ways of attaching the cord that others have come up with. It will also cover the 2015 and newer F150's
heyjacks thanks for this video. I did the modification to my 2014 F150 but the latch doesn't seem to catch easily. Did you have to make any changes for that? In the video you just push the seat up and it latches. I find myself trying to align the bar just right then slamming the seat several times to get it to latch.
If the bar isn't at the right height, the latch won't catch. Other than that, I haven't encountered any major problems getting mine to latch. Maybe it would help to lube the latch mechanism with some machine oil (or even better, gun oil / frog lube). Hope this helps.
Works Great on the 2015 too...!!! Only change is on the passenger side it already has a loop to pull as that is where the jack is stored The 2015 looks and work the same way. Thanks for the great video.
Robert I have a 2015 and haven’t had to use my jack yet (hope I never have to) but I have looked at it back there several times, even felt around it, trying to figure out how I would remove it if I ever need to! I’ve really been afraid to Actually attempt to remove it because then I would have to get it back in there! Crazy!!! The owner’s manual does not mention this latch at all, it only says the jack is located behind the seat. The dealership has no idea that this latch exists! I have a electrically actuated shotgun lock that will very soon be relocated Behind the driver side rear seat!
Awesome hack! I kept seeing all that space that I couldn't even get to. Once I saw this video I immediately implemented it. Works great and now I have a place to keep my hitch etc.
This is awesome! I always wondered why the rear sests didn't fold forward. I just moved all my emergency supplies back there and have a ton of room under the seat. Thanks for posting this, man!
****FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T, OR WON'T DRILL!!**** All you need is a couple of 1/4" self-locking washers. Put the paracord around the little cylinder, slip on the washer all the way against the knot, pull tight and your done. I personally tied a bowline hitch knot once the paracord was over the backseat, that way you have a 2 finger size handle to pull up on. Then connected to the rear headrest to keep the handle accessible. Overall, this route is much faster and easier. Credit to the poster though because I wouldn't have thought of this otherwise
man, thanks a ton for this video! i traded in my regular cab for a crewcab and thought i had actually lost space to store stuff behind the seats! great video, thanks again!
Thank you! I can't wait to get to my truck to see if I can make this work. I have a 2012 F150 Crew Cab 4X4; I was told that there was no access behind the seat. I look forward to going back to the dealer, once I do your modification..... I wonder what the salesman will say when I show him this!? ☺
WOW, pretty awesome. I just bought a 2013 and the when looking at it with my dealer I asked about flipping the back seat forward and he stated they did away with this....LOL. Thank You very much for sharing
I’m heading out to the garage right now with my drill and my ring and paracord. You’re correct, it is a total pain in the butt to get that backseat down..... now I know how to make it simple because of you. Thanks so much....I really appreciate it
Thank You ! That's Awesome ! My favorite upgrade has been a power locking tale gate, set to lock/unlock on a single press ! Pop & Lock PL8250 Power Tailgate Lock for Ford (For tailgate with OEM lock) . and yes it does fit !
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I stumbled upon this while trying to install my new seat covers on my 2013 SuperCrew. Saved me a lot of hassle. You just earned a new subscriber. Thanks again.
What an awesome tip, thank you! Word to the wise, *don’t rush when drilling your hole so you don’t snap your drill bit like I did. I adapted to my situation and made it work. Also, once I did this mod, the latch was not working. I hit it with a little WD-40 on all the moving parts on the latching mechanisms and worked every time thereafter.
Great tip. Thank you for sharing. That is one really hard pin. I snapped a bit also. Should have mentioned that. I'll be doing an update video on a 2021 F250 Tremor. I'll be sure to include both tips.
I’ve been driving Ford pickups since I was 16. Probably had 10 of them, thought I knew it all. Just bought a new limited that I get to pick up on Wednesday. I can’t wait to try this. I had no idea. Awesome share. Thanks a ton! Shawn Keys
Thank you for this knowledge and the time you spent refining this so others may utilize this hidden area. You are a creative gentleman and I applaud you.
@@ufixit appreciate you making this video, jokes aside! My big hands can't even fit back there but one of these weekends I'll try the hanger method to pop them down.
2109 F150’s passenger side seat is already setup to drop down due to the emergency Jack being behind it, but good to know about the driver side I’m gonna give it a try.
I'm glad this video popped up again. I've always thought there has to be a way to get the seats down to clean the rear window. Now I know!! Thanks a lot!!
Did this today after watching your video. Thanks. Although, it's easier to get to, and see the pin if you remove the headrest, then fold the horizontal seat up. This will cause the vertical part of the seat to push up and come forward 3-4 inches making it MUCH easier to see and reach the pin. The paracord is a great idea, works like a charm.
Any problems drilling it do you need a special drill? Good tip about the headrest removal, I don't use the rear seat headreasts anyway just have to confirm they come off in mine
Wow this is a great little tip. This really should have been done at factory. When I bought my truck I was shocked it didn't flip down. Thanks for the video
You just made my day I just bought a 2013 crew cab and was thinking it would be nice to get back here and store stuff definitely doing this trick thanks
You are A'M'A'Z'I'N'G!!!!! thank you!! I just did it this morning!! *Put my cables *My door opener kit to help folks who forgot their key inside their car. * my ratchet and sockets sets.. Awesome!!!!!
Thank you so much! I watched another of your videos, it was helpfull... but THIS one showed the latch! Once i could see HOW the latch worked i popped it right out!
Gave me an excuse to go buy a new dewalt drill today! Thanks for the video. Nice to get some of that junk out from under my seat to behind my seat with easy access! This was super simple... Took a half hour tops!
Thanks for the info. I just bought a 2014 F150 Lariat Crew. I am definitely going to do this......Thanks.... glad I accidentally ran across this video.
Space is great for clean amp, and speaker components, etc. Installation and should be difficult for criminals to operate, not truck owners!!...So really appreciate this video, wish I watched it sooner!!! Thanks!!

Awesome mod. Just did it my 2013. You deserve a medal and a place of honor in the history books

Thats great! Thank you for the feedback.
It's funny the passenger side has the pull cord to access the jack but the diver side doesn't on 2021. Good to know this trick still works.
dude, this was great. I've had my '13 for 4 years and have always thought the space behind the back seats was wasted... no more. thanks man!
Dealer told me it was impossible for that seat to come down on my 2014 F150, Thanks so much for the info. You are a God sent.
I just bought a 2018 and they told me the same thing. I bet it is the exact same setup. gonna try when i get home

heyjacks thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a try. Noticed that yours seemed to latch easily and on the first try. Take care.
Move the lower part of the seat up and down a little while pressing the back gently against the latch. That will help it lock into place.
Thank you for this. I've had my truck for seven years and never knew about this capability.

****FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T, OR WON'T DRILL!!****
All you need is a couple of 1/4" self-locking washers.

Saved me from a under seat truck box, this is actually gonna serve me way better. Thanks a ton for sharing!
that's a great ideal on the paracord to latch, i'll be doing the same on my Ecobeast. thanks
thanks for the video man! I did the same setup on my truck. I was tired of my tools sliding out from under the seat. this worked out perfect.
Brilliant, simply put, thank you os much for this knowledge.
This is one of the best guy knowledge advise I’ve gotten in a long while! I thought I knew everything about my 2013 crew cab. Thank you!
Hey brother
Very helpful video
Thanks
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I stumbled upon this while trying to install my new seat covers on my 2013 SuperCrew. Saved me a lot of hassle. You just earned a new subscriber. Thanks again.
Great to have a new subscriber. I’m glad i was able to help.
lol didn't even know my truck did that
Me neither, I just assumed only the sitting portion of the seats lifted.
Richard Recupero 6
Haha nethir did I
Me either guess I am drilling my truck tomorrow
Not all of them do!
I'll be sure to include both tips.
only took me 6 years to find this
same
no shit man. i'm so happy i just stumbled across this vid!
Me too. Thanksss
Thanks !!!!
It took quarantine 2020 to find this out, truck is 6 years old now
Recently bought a 2013 Platinum Crew. Did this little hack tonight. Thanks for the info! Nice little storage space.
This is not a crew cab. It’s a super crew. That’s what Ford calls it.
How cool is that! Almost bought the after market fix for over $30!!!! Thanks!!!!!
Just bought a 2014 FX4 and was pretty bummed when I couldn't get the seats to fold down. Thanks for posting..I'll fix this issue tomorrow!
1969Bossman429 did you get this to work? I couldn't find it on my 2014 fx4 Screw.
I had no idea that my truck did this and now it's done. Thanks a ton!
People that dislike this video must have a Chevy 🤣🤣🤣
Or a Dodge.
Awiwi
At least with some Dodge Rams, they have storage in the floor. Of course if you have stuff on the floor, you can't really access it.
I’ve been driving Ford pickups since I was 16. Probably had 10 of them, thought I knew it all.
Just bought a new limited that I get to pick up on Wednesday. I can’t wait to try this. I had no idea. Awesome share. Thanks a ton! Shawn Keys
Great ! Thanks for the feedback.
very smart. thank you
Thank you for this knowledge and the time you spent refining this so others may utilize this hidden area. You are a creative gentleman and I applaud you.
Thank you for the kind words. I was just messing around. I had no idea this would be viewed by so many people.
this is awesome I have to say
Great tip. Took literaly 10 minutes to do both sides. Thanks!
Awesome!!
-"Hidden Storage"
- 1.2 million F150 owners 👀
Ha, good point. Its hidden from all the Dodge and Chevy folks anyway.....
I have a 2016, and I’ve always felt like there was a little extra space back there. And now I know, THANK YOU!!
You bet. Glad I was able to be of assistance.
I was wondering why the seat didn't fold down
Wow 😮!!! Who knew you can teach a old dog a new trick!! Thank you for your UA-cam class in UA-cam University Mechanics 🧰
Very nice, I've been wondering if I could get behind them. Thanks.
I'm glad this video popped up again. I've always thought there has to be a way to get the seats down to clean the rear window. Now I know!! Thanks a lot!!
That looks like place for my gun haha
I can't wrap my head around why anyone would dislike this video. Thanks for the info!
The likes are easier to see but I try to learn from the dislikes also. Thank you and take care in these difficult times.
I didn't dislike it, but I could have skipped it as mine is a 2015. No go. The model years should have been in the title, that's all.
I sense ex-military hmmmm........ paracord,' hide in plain sight'!

Just did this exact thing to my 2015 F150. Works perfectly. Thanks you very much.
What types of knots did you end up tying on there
Looks like a "ring hitch" tied off with two half-hitches.
WHY does Ford not include this “fix” as a stock feature?!!!
I agree. Would be an additional selling point.
Thank you. Just got a 2020 XT F-150 and it’s been a struggle to figure this out. Very helpful.
Wow this is a great little tip. This really should have been done at factory. When I bought my truck I was shocked it didn't flip down. Thanks for the video
You just made my day I just bought a 2013 crew cab and was thinking it would be nice to get back here and store stuff definitely doing this trick thanks
My lol boy and i just did this. Great find!!!! Any more things to help a family out is appreciated! Thank you!!
this is awesome. As soon as I get my truck back from the dealer I plan on doing this modification to mine. goldmine of a video.
You are
A'M'A'Z'I'N'G!!!!!
thank you!! I just did it this morning!!
*Put my cables
*My door opener kit to help folks who forgot their key inside their car.
* my ratchet and sockets sets..
Awesome!!!!!
Thank you so much! I watched another of your videos, it was helpfull... but THIS one showed the latch! Once i could see HOW the latch worked i popped it right out!
You're welcome!
Gave me an excuse to go buy a new dewalt drill today! Thanks for the video. Nice to get some of that junk out from under my seat to behind my seat with easy access! This was super simple... Took a half hour tops!
5 years of my life wasted by not finding this video till now! Excellent job!
Thank you sir
Thanks for the info. I just bought a 2014 F150 Lariat Crew. I am definitely going to do this......Thanks.... glad I accidentally ran across this video.
Me too. Its an older video but still good info.
Space is great for clean amp, and speaker components, etc. Installation and should be difficult for criminals to operate, not truck owners!!...So really appreciate this video, wish I watched it sooner!!! Thanks!!
You are very welcome. Thank you for watching.
