I'm currently about 50% through the book "King's X: The Oral History", and one of the things that has struck me so far is how genuine and nice everybody in that band is. So glad you did this interview, Pete. If anybody wants to really dig in to the history of King's X, that book is also highly recommended.
Im almost 63, it was about 20+ years ago I discovered Kings X. I freekin LOVE that band!!! The whole dang band is killer awesome.....I turned my kids onto them!
A musicians band for sure. I heard an a radio rock show where they talked about how (prior to digital / internet music age) the Label for KX would get so many requests from other bands and musicians for their new releases that the label would complain that it was eating into their sales volume!
Love, love, love Ty as a guitar player and I love him even more after hearing about the influence of the great man Alex Lifeson. I knew it!!! Both of them use these beautiful big chords with all those open strings. Great, great atmospheres they created that served the songs so well. Plus they rock insanely hard. Ty also has one of the greatest tones in recorded history.
I had the privilege to open for Kings X in 2018. Not only one of the best bands in the world, but they're also the nicest, humblest guys to work with. I wish Ty and the guys many more years of success. Thanks for the interview.
It’s crazy they became my favorite band almost the very first time I heard their music in the fall of 1988. I’m blessed enough to have been raised in Houston,TX so I’ve seen them over 75 times on every single tour they’ve done.
I begged my parents to allow me to play an instrument when I was a kid in third grade. But was rejected at every attempt. My uncle got involved and paid for my first guitar and several lessons. He was and still is my hero! His passing, many, many years ago, broke my heart. Mostly because I was stationed in Germany at the time and couldn't be there. Ty is one of my all time favorites. He's such a cool dude. Thank you guys, I've been glued to the tube watching and listening. Can't get enough. Huge fan as well, and a guitar geeks paradise is what this is... 🎸🤓🎸🇺🇸☮
Im here on July 31,2022 and I just saw Ty, Dug and Jerry at their first live show in several years in NYC. They killed it ! Ty is such an amazing artist and so down to Earth. Can’t wait for the new album!!
Two of my favorite musicians having a chat. This video is golden. Ty is hands-down my biggest influence, absolutely love his approach to songwriting. Both of you truly understand tone and are masters of the craft.
@petethorn thanks for this video, I had the pleasure of building Ty’s Zion guitars from back in the day.. I left the company back in 2002 after Ken sold Zion been on my own building ever since
My husband turned me on to Kings X (we connected through work and music), got to see them at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento-amazing show, loved it. I been playing guitar for over 40 years, and so the sound of Ty’s playing is so amazing and inspires me to try (sadly, I am very mediocre) and learn some of their stuff. So thank you for this interview, and Ty-you, DuG and Jerry are amazing and my hubby and I are HUGE fans!
Pete, you are one of the best, if not the best, interviewer I've ever heard. Your comprehensive, and instinctive questions are riveting. You're an amazing musician as well. Please keep these coming....💚🎸
So cool! Ty is my favorite guitar player and it makes me happy that not only do you appreciate him, Pete, but that you actually interviewed him! Saw King's X in Buford, GA last year and got to meet the band. One of the highlights of my music life
Really awesome interview! Lot of things to take note...I just tried the modulate delay effect to the lead and just sounds awesome...listening to "over my head" and that's the sound man! So grateful for this jewel Pete!
What a treat. two of my favorites ever. Thank you Pete for making this happen. I've probably seen King's X 20 times in my life. I've had a chance to talk to Ty a few times. What a wonderful guy. Please do more of these interviews.
Amazing! You asked him so many things that I would have wanted to ask. Every time I have had the opportunity to chat with him has been so brief at shows over the years. Had the best chat with him after getting to open for Kings X in Atlanta a couple of years ago. Seriously one of my favorite guitarists, writers, and people I have ever met. Thank you for this! 🙏🏻
Cheers from Texas! 🤘😎🤘 You guys are... stellar souls! Thank you so much for hanging out online (extended) with us! So appreciate it! So much learned over the years! We miss you down here ;) Peace M
Ty is one of the very very best. Thank you so much for sharing. The only time I got to speak to him was in Newcastle. He was using the Axe-Fx at that time and I'd just bought one. All I could think to ask him was "what amp are you using in your Axe-Fx?". He stopped for a moment and replied in his wonder Southern drawl "Da-as Meta-al". Wouldn't have guessed that the gig I'd just listened to was played through a model of a Diesel VH4! Still sounded like Ty and it sounded so good.
First saw King's X on the Faith Hope Love tour, and it remains one of my best gigs ever. There's not a week goes by when there isn't some KX playing in my house... psyched to hear the new album. Great interview, thanks for sharing. Stay well guys.
King's X are absolute legends. Their first 7 albums are brilliant without a single weak track. I can't think of another band that released 7 consecutive albums of unskippable tracks. That's like 90 songs. Insane. Legends.
Pete, dude seriously this was among the best interviews I have seen Ty do (not that I am a gauge for this) but his comfort level speaking to the questions from another expert made the interview feel like two experience pro's were letting us in on it. OF course thats exactly what I just saw and heard. Thanks for extracting some of those cool tidbits from Ty such as the tweener setting between 100 and 99 and "pray vibrations off the stage dont move the setting".. .I mean so much more too from Ty. To learn he was doing a follow up too gave me another level of anxiousness to simply waiting for the Kings X next album drop too. Wow. Thanks again!
This man Ty is an incredible, tasty and extremely talented guitarist & human. Down to earth and obviously humble. The King’s X band is amazing. For the newcomers: go crank up their LP, Gretschen Goes To Nebraska. The gtrs are amazing 👍🏼👍🏼
Solid gold. Thanks so much Pete. Ty and KX are long time favorites that never get old. Got to meet them after a show a year or so back. Just lovely folks.
Thanks for dragging him in Pete. Ty was a breath of fresh air upon hearing them in '89. I noticed his love for Alex Lifeson, the pedal Tones. It is like hearing Rush meets country twang meets Trower type soloing.
I bought Faith Hope Love back in 90 for the cover alone. I had no idea what to expect, but when _It's Love_ came on I hit repeat and listened to it I don't know how many times. I couldn't get enough after that. I think I saw them in 95 on the tour for Dogman. My brother had come with me but he wasn't 18 yet and couldn't get into the bar where they were playing. Sucks to be him because Lost In Germany is incredible live.....that tone and riff are connected directly to my musical soul.
Kings X is one of my favorite bands, I had to add a couple of their songs to the band I play in's song list black flag and black the sky, just killer songs that I feel can't be left out of songs we play, rock on Ty you are an extremely talented musician for sure.
One of the things I love about King's x is the fact that anybody who knows who they are always says the same thing that they're underrated and underappreciated. Back in the day when I was in high school these guys were the band that all musicians turned to. They were the Beatles of our generation.
Nice interview. Cool chill vibe. I always loved Ty’s early tone. It was interesting to hear about the MXR and the midiverb. I figured that there was more to it than just the L5. Sounds like the aion electronics guy should send his L5 pedal to Ty.
Nice. I built an FM station in the early 80's in Alaska and we used to play Kings X, "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska", and also "Faith Hope and Love" during the late night. When I moved to California around 93, one of the first things I did was hit up a King's X concert on Katella down by Disneyland. It was deafening, but I stood right up front and just took it all in. As a guitar player I always appreciated Ty's guitar work and song writing. A good friend of mine from the UK turned me on to them, and we ended up covering a few of their tunes, I don't remember the titles, but the first lines were"Hey Mr. Wilson", and "I, sit on the beach, feeling the sun, feeling your hand, and I, there's a ship on the ocean and I can't decide if I like it." Thanks for the interview Pete. Good job giving Ty time to answer. The only question I would have like to heard was "what are the secret settings on the Gibson L5 ..exactly?" HA
That was wonderful. Had to pause and missed the end chat, but someone mentioned Jerry next and I think that would be a really interesting interview. The Kings X fans love him, and he so solid and powerful, he's as huge a component of that King's X sound as the others. Would just kind of love to hear what he has to say about whatever. So 2 votes for that one.
How did I not see this before today?!?! Ty has no idea how much he’s changed my ear and how I hear melody today. Stellar guy, worth the line to meet after shows. Thanks to both of you for this!
Enjoyed the interview! It was great hearing from Ty after your question about his early tone and the moves to different gear. It's easy to forget sometimes that changes are made to gear, especially live, due to the history of reliability, among other things, of that gear. If a show gets wrecked because that gear is breaking down regularly, it's the next obvious move to seek out new gear. This was one of the highlights for me from this video. The other part I enjoyed is the openness to trying new gear, i.e. solid state vs. tube, not depriving oneself from a piece of gear because of an insistence of "one over the other" type of thinking when it comes to tone production. Cheers!!
This is a fantastic conversation! I've listened to Ty and King's X since 1989, and have dug a lot of his music over the years. The stories about his childhood guitar and musical experiences were touching and fun to hear. Thank you, both!
My late 90's R&B band....the L7, 4x10's.. a 335...found the right mid filter, plus compression...turned her up most of the way. Best tone I ever had...couldn't lift it prior to back surgery, it had to go. I wonder what it would weigh without the cab...that amp sang.
I saw King's X a number of times from 89 to 92 and Ty had the most impressive lead tone of any guitarist I ever heard. When he'd go into a solo, the sound didn't drop out. It was thick and filled the room. I'm glad I saw them on nights where everything was working right.
Thank you for this!!! What a treat to listen to during the pandemic. Ty is in my top four guitarists influentially. Such a good interview!! Just reminded me of all the great music Ty has been a part of.
I can't put into words how good this guy and King X sound. Very sophisticated! I can only thank you, as I would thank Mozart and Beethoven and many others if I had the opportunity!
Great interview, Pete... thanks especially for giving Ty room to talk about the hand pain and carpal tunnel stuff. I am experiencing this issue lately and it's freakin' me out! I'm guessing the pain is due to the extra time I have to practice now while the COVID thing is happening in the world. I actually could not even press a simple traditional chord two weeks ago after playing hard one day for about 7 hours. I'm just now getting the strength back in my hand, but I still cannot shift to certain chord shapes, or play certain lead licks, without feeling pain all the way to my elbow. The strength in my pinky is just gone! Nice to know others have had similar experiences and have made it through to the other side!
Thank you, thank you. This was so amazing. I am such a fan of Ty. It is fun to be watching two great guitarists on the screen talking about things I love.
The biggest compliment I ever got on my guitar tone came from Ty Tabor when I was in a Black Sabbath tribute band that opened for them... I was using the Orange Jim Root Rockerverb micro head with a range Master clone. Talk about being honored... Maybe I had a small influence on him switching to Orange amps... Maybe...lol
Hey Pete! Got to thank you for all the great content you’ve brought to the guitar community. It’s really cool that an accomplished player of your caliber makes the kind of effort to share his experiences like you have. It’s been especially cool that in these crazy times when most of us are staying home we have guys like you putting out great stuff to entertain and educate. I’ve been a Ty Tabor fan since forever- so this was just icing on the cake. Thanks - Jim from NY
What a great interview at a great and much needed time. Thanks Ty and @Pete Thorn. I found myself so happy and relaxed watching and listening to this. THANK YOU!
Pete, thank you so much for this. King’s X and Ty Tabor are a huge inspiration in my musical life. This is just what I needed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Wow!! This was amazing, Ty is one of my biggest heroes. So nice of him to share so many of his secrets... I've been wondering about some of these tonesecrets since 1993... when Kings X took me by storm. 😅 What a treat! ❤🙏
Thanks for posting this, I loved every minute of it. Was waiting for you to ask when the new KX album comes out. They seem to have gone silent on that subject. Thanks Again!
Ty Tabor's Gretchen era tone is the best recorded solid state guitar tone ever IMO.
What a delightful guy! Ty Tabor is as humble as he is talented. Just an inspiration to hear both of these guys hang out. God I love this channel.
Thanks so much for watching!
@@PeteThorn thank you Peter I've been waiting on interview with him for a long time
Ty is one of my absolute favorite players ever. He has the tone!
I love Ty so much, he mastered our second album :) Such a honor!!!!!!!!

A musicians band for sure. I heard an a radio rock show where they talked about how (prior to digital / internet music age) the Label for KX would get so many requests from other bands and musicians for their new releases that the label would complain that it was eating into their sales volume!
Most underrated rock guitar player ever! A genious!

I literally listened to 4 hours of King's X this morning!
Same thing! I just play
.... Silent Planet over and over again!!
nicholas ditolla I’ve been sleeping with Kings X in my headphones for the last 3 days-I just love it.
I had the privilege to open for Kings X in 2018. Not only one of the best bands in the world, but they're also the nicest, humblest guys to work with. I wish Ty and the guys many more years of success.

Massively underrated player is Ty. Great player and seems to be a really down to earth person.
Two of my favorite musicians having a chat. This video is golden. Ty is hands-down my biggest influence, absolutely love his approach to songwriting. Both of you truly understand tone and are masters of the craft.
I saw king X open for Rush along time ago! What a show!!
You need to get the book if you don't already have it's a great read
Man, I'm jealous!!! :D
Man, that EAR CANDY record is highly underrated. It is absolutely one of my faves, Pete! Glad I ain't crazy.
This is amazing Pete -- King's X and Ty and near and dear to my heart. I've been a fan for a long, long time. Thanks.
Big fan of King's X!!! RESPECT Great interview Pete!

Wow. Learned a lot from this video. These guys are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks Pete and Ty!
Ty Tabor is one my favorite guitar players of all time! Such a nice and humble guy too.
Omg, Pete. This is so great! Can't believe it. Huge fan of Ty. You asked some great questions. Thanks so much.

Page, Lifeson and Ty...the BEST
"Walking the plank!" Fantastic analogy. Real improvisation
One of the things I love about King's x is the fact that anybody who knows who they are always says the same thing that they're underrated and underappreciated. Back in the day when I was in high school these guys were the band that all musicians turned to. They were the Beatles of our generation.
Ty Tabor should be a household name as well as the rest of King's X. Saw them in Largo last month. Amazing!!!!
My all time Favorite guitar player!!!!!!!!! You're great too Pete
Most EXCELLENT chat, Pete!!!
Ty is probably my favorite guitarist of literally all time, so many out there. His playing encompasses everything I love about rock guitar!
Nice interview. Cool chill vibe. I always loved Ty’s early tone. It was interesting to hear about the MXR and the midiverb. I figured that there was more to it than just the L5.
Sounds like the aion electronics guy should send his L5 pedal to Ty.
My secret weapon when I play is stealing as much Ty Tabor riffs and make them my own.. Dude is a riff master.
Love Ty and all the music all of the guys in King's X play on.
Nice. I built an FM station in the early 80's in Alaska and we used to play Kings X, "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska", and also "Faith Hope and Love" during the late night. Love his solo stuff...
How did I not see this before today?!?!
Ty has no idea how much he’s changed my ear and how I hear melody today. Stellar guy, worth the line to meet after shows.
Thanks to both of you for this!
Love Ty. Love my MS homey. Such a nice humble guy. What a beautiful soul. What a killer discography.
Thanks Pete to bring back Ty. One of my biggest inspirations in music.
great interview! Loved the Phil Keggy shoutout.
Pete - thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

Outstanding interview Pete. I’m a huge Tabor fan, and have always wanted to see an in-depth interview with him, and you did a great job. Well done!
One of my favorites.
This is a fantastic conversation! I've listened to Ty and King's X since 1989, and have dug a lot of his music over the years. The stories about his childhood guitar and musical experiences were touching and fun to hear. Thank you, both!
One of my favorite ever players.
Thanks! This was a lot of fun. Have been a King's X fan from the beginning. Also a HUGE fan of Ty's guitar playing. Such a great guy. Cheers!
Excellent. Comprehensive. Inspirational.
The Difference is a beautiful song
Love King's X & Ty Tabor! My band had the honor of opening for them a couple years ago. So fun.
Thank you for this!!! What a treat to listen to during the pandemic. Ty is in my top four guitarists influentially. Such a good interview!! Just reminded me of all the great music Ty has been a part of.
One of my favorite musicians!! Loved the interview. Thank you Pete and Ty!
Outstanding interview with two of my favorite guitarists.
Spot on Pete, the guitar tone on “train” rocks me too! Should have known it was a Marshall.
Thanks Pete for the interview..
You and Ty are my favourite guitar player..
Great talk Pete. Ty is a brilliant musician. Been a fan since the ‘80s.
Thank's a lot Pete and Ty. My day sucks and this come up! Thnks!!
Maybe...lol
And aye....can feel difference..🛡❤
Ty, Brian May, Hendrix and Nile Rodgers - my heroes. Among many ... Great intervju, Pete! Love your channel!!
Great interview, thanks so much for posting. Ty is one of the best guitar players and very underrated

What a great interview at a great and much needed time. Thanks Ty and @Pete Thorn. I found myself so happy and relaxed watching and listening to this. THANK YOU!
Thanks!!!
Kings X fucking Rules, Ty’s in my top 10 all time fave axe slingers 🤘🏾💥🎸
Pete, thank you so much for this. King’s X and Ty Tabor are a huge inspiration in my musical life. This is just what I needed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
That's an awesome first guitar story Ty told.
Pete thank you both for such a great gem of an interview and Pete keep smiling and keeping things positive. 🙏🙏🙏
Wow!! This was amazing, Ty is one of my biggest heroes. So nice of him to share so many of his secrets... I've been wondering about some of these tonesecrets since 1993... when Kings X took me by storm. 😅 What a treat! ❤🙏
Really great interview with Ty!
Ty is the reason I sold my trumpet & bought my 1st guitar at 17.
Ha! Me to! I hated trumpet, then got a guitar.
Wow, that is really cool that Ty did all that studio work so, young!
What a great discussion! Thank you!
Thanks for posting this, I loved every minute of it. Was waiting for you to ask when the new KX album comes out. They seem to have gone silent on that subject. Thanks Again!
Great interview Pete! I absolutely love Ty. Great cat!
