Saw King's X open for Dream Theater years ago. All I remember is that when King's X was playing, I thought my innards were going to vibrate out of my body. One of the sickest bass tones ever and damn could those guys jam. Dream Theater was kind of a let down after that.
I've seen King's X numerous times. One of the best three-piece bands of all time, IMHO. And Dug Pinnick is not only a fucking killer bassist, but one of the most soulful singers in rock 'n' roll!!
I’m blessed enough to be a life long Houstonian and I’ve seen King’s X since 1988 on every single tour multiple times. They’ve been my favorite band since the first time I went to that first show over 32 years ago.
B Wigley, same here, Having loved OOTSP I bought GGTN on its release Autumn ‘89 and can honestly say that one month has not gone past since when I don’t listen to at least one track from it. The best rock/metal record of the second half of the 80’s......
OMG... First there was a Pete Thorn and Big Wreck connection made.... And now... A Pete & King's X connection. My two favorite bands. Life is better than good!
Pete, Thank you so very much for featuring one of the most original bassist in rock music! I Saw King's X at a club in Toronto during the early '90s, and Dug's bass tone not only kicked me in the teeth volume wise, but his tone made his style of play cut through the room so beautifully. This interview is proof that you are a musician and not simply a guitarist. Purely Brilliant! Will there ever be a vst plugin release of the DP3X?
Thanks Pete for the great video. As a left-handed bass player I have been a fan of Dug for years, but one thing I didn't realise was he is 67 years old, man he is looking good. Cheers.
There are very few people who will leave me starstruck, but every member of Kings X definitely will do! You just said the very same thing before I'd even written this comment! Lol
Oh pete. A man after my effing heart. Kings X have been my fav band for over 10 years. I heard gretchen and was taken over. Love you man and LOVE DUG!!! Xx
Doug! Maybe finally he and king’s x are getting some of what they are due... they blew my mind with their sound and after gretchen, there was just no turning back. No shame in confessing your fanhood, Pete! ;)
Absolutely the best thing I've seen on youtube in a while. I used to jam out on some King's X all the time. His fingers have to be the longest I've ever seen. Chords I couldn't make on the guitar, this cat could play on a bass.
Love Doug's contribution to rock's history via King's X !!!!! Incredible vocalist, bass playe, and song writer. He didn't sell out to the devil like so many other bands did to make it big. Respect !!!
Wow Pete!!! As someone said before me - there are not enough thumbs to give up to you an dUg!!! King's X is one of my all time favorite bands in this world!!! Maaaaaan!!! Thanks to both of you!
I hung out with Dug for a couple hours during NAMM 2013 at the Schecter Party at The Grove. We stood directly in front of Tommy Victor during Prong's set & completely geeked out together. Such a kind and wonderful person.
Cool how Dug references the needle jumping out of a vinyl record. The opening (the second note actually) on "Hello Hooray" off of Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar babies" will throw the needle out of the groove if you leave the dust cover up on your record-player with your system turned up loud. Feedback and sound pressure are wonderful things...most of the time lol.
Two of my favorite people demoing an amazing pedal i just discovered, using one of my favorite songs to demo it, with the DI out, like I wanted to hear. Exactly what I wanted when I needed it, and more. Thank you, God Almighty.
I relate to Dug’s tone search so hard. I started biamping cheap guitar amps along with my bass cab back in high school. We’re talking bottom barrel crate guitar amps, but I was after THIS sound. His pedal is the first all in one solution I’ve heard really nail it. I toured for a long time, years until this quarantine. Waited too long to order one of these pedals but have one on the way. Love you Dug. You’re a legend and seem like such a great dude.
WOW... Pete, this must be so awesome for you! With all of the legends you have played with and continue to play with, this must've been a serious fan boy moment!
King's X my all time favorite band. I have every album they ever made. Dug's ability to carry the band puts him in a class by itself. He IS the rythm section and he and Ty work seamlessly together. Jerry is rock solid. The result is a most unique sound that is a real trip
Wow -- this is amazing Pete. King's X are very special to me, a fan since '89. Dug is one of the faces carved into my personal music Mt Rushmore. One of the all-time voices in rock.
How did I miss this one! Got to meet Dug and the rest of the band when opening for them in NYC a few years back. Have every King's X and KXM album. Dug is the man! You totally nailed Ty's parts on Dogman too! Great segment.
What a great video, two of my favorite musicians. Great hearing the story of how you developed your sound because I LOVE your sound. The dUg sound is the definitive bass sound.
Awesome. Kings X fan since I saw them supporting AC/DC (1990?). The coda to "We Were Born To Be Loved" blew my mind! Dug doing great stuff with KXM now too.
There was only ever one band called King's X and there will never be another... What a great interview with a legend!! Love that you guys played Dogman, that song is like a million elephants charging at you, massive!
i bought one and used it recently. sounded great at recent local jam plugged straight into PA. still adjusting tones when chunk is mixed in. classic rock jam so didnt use the chunk much except on improv bass solo's. my bass has EMG's. I played outside in full sun, the tuner indicator was bright and very visible, thumbs up for bright LED's.
Awesome video! I was late to discovering King's X but I've been enjoying going back through their albums the last couple years. Incredible musicians and songs!
First of all-you are a GREAT guitarist!! How fun to jam with dUg! Second, really good interview-good questions, and you didn’t try and tell your own stories and talk over a legend. Awesome job.
Doug is the bass tone king ! Great interview. I have great memories of being part of the sound crew in the late 90's doing a few shows in Maine for Kings X, awesome group of great musicians.
Sold.....gotta love Dug and King's X! You can really tell that he put a lot of time and dedication into his signature pedal and amp. A lot of the things he says explain so well the ideas I've had about bass and working your sound into the mix.
I don’t have enough thumbs to fully communicate how awesome this was
i did 111.
Pete, You got to have Doug back on and Jam with him on his 12-String SCHECTER Bass. You guys Sound AWESOME, TOGETHER!!!❤
Bass players are the foundation to a band. Their groove is where it's at.
YES!!!!!! Love King's X quite possibly the most underrated band ever, but the three most supremely talented and gracious gents ever.
Dug’s relationship with Tech 21 just keeps making things better and better for us. Awesome sauce!
Thanks for having Dug on.
dUg has the best bass tone of all time. Love King's X. Such an underrated band. They should be a household name.
Am I the only one that replays that jam on Dogman over and over again?
I bought the DP-3X 5 years ago , still my go to pedal!
My secret bass weapon
Saw King's X open for Dream Theater years ago. All I remember is that when King's X was playing, I thought my innards were going to vibrate out of my body. One of the sickest bass tones ever and damn could those guys jam. Dream Theater was kind of a let down after that.
Holy Crap. King's X opening for Dream Theater? How did the universe not explode?
Awesome. And did Dug sing on Lines in the Sand? Or DT didn't play that song?
Most likely during the falling into infinity tour....would’ve loved to have seen that....
Saw them headline @ Billboard Live. Guitar & bass tones were sick!
I would hate to go on after Kings X!!! I’ve always thought they’re one band that should be a household name!!! 🤙
dUg is a great friend who gave me access to photograph him and the band for the better part of the past 12 plus years.. Lots of love brother
This dude is a killer bass player and his vocals are superb.
Man, it dooesn't get better than that crunchy riff from "Dogman."
I downloaded four of their albums after you recommended them in one of your streams. Theres some huge tones in that band
Great stuff, , the VOICE that man possesses! "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska" is one of my all time favorite records.
B Wigley, same here, Having loved OOTSP I bought GGTN on its release Autumn ‘89 and can honestly say that one month has not gone past since when I don’t listen to at least one track from it. The best rock/metal record of the second half of the 80’s......
Two of my favorite musicians on the planet.... Make an album together guys!!!!
OMG...
First there was a Pete Thorn
and Big Wreck connection made....
And now...
A Pete & King's X connection.
My two favorite bands.
Life is better than good!
Yes - my All Time FAVORITE BAND!!!!❤❤❤
i saw Kings X twice, and both times were among the best sounding live mixes I've ever heard. Tone to the bone!
I keep coming back to this vid to hear this bass sound. It is the best ever!
Will there ever be a vst plugin release of the DP3X?
two of the best dudes !
pete should tour with dug and george lynch man that would be awesome
One of the most underappreciated bands and musicians on the planet. King's X is a gem.
Thanks Pete for the great video. As a left-handed bass player I have been a fan of Dug for years, but one thing I didn't realise was he is 67 years old, man he is looking good. Cheers.
Doug Pinnick = LEGEND! Thanks to both of you guys for this!
The man. The voice. The Tone. Dugg!!!!
Could not click fast enough for this one!! King's X favorite band EVER!!!
Pinnick is such a killer bassist and these riffs are amazing. it's crazy to think that he was already in his 40s when "it's Love" came out!
duuuuuuude. the sound of your version of dogman! sounds SOOO good! the way the guitar and the bass blends is so great!
Was so much fun to do that. I think we only did one take!
Pete Thorn so cool! Pros at work!
Xx
I have a Trademark 60 and two Trademark 300 heads. Great company, great tone. Dug is always so interesting to hear both verbally and instrumentally.
Doug! Maybe finally he and king’s x are getting some of what they are due... they blew my mind with their sound and after gretchen, there was just no turning back. No shame in confessing your fanhood, Pete! ;)
K'sX has so much groove and those 3 are so tight, love em'....!!!!
Absolutely the best thing I've seen on youtube in a while. I used to jam out on some King's X all the time. His fingers have to be the longest I've ever seen. Chords I couldn't make on the guitar, this cat could play on a bass.

Sorry, I didn't double check the spelling of Dug's first name
Seen Kings X tonight in Hermosa Beach, California....Came home and pulled this right up........Legendary!!
I can't wait to get this pedal. I love Dug's sound and always have. His tone should be the standard for metal bass. He's perfected it.
Wow Pete!!! As someone said before me - there are not enough thumbs to give up to you an dUg!!! King's X is one of my all time favorite bands in this world!!! Maaaaaan!!! Thanks to both of you!
Doug is a legend. What a tone. I love bass and play in a rock covers band. I keep trying to convince them to do a King's X track.
Those are some major truths being said there. Bravo Pete and Dug.
Thirty years a fan. I love Kings X to the point of absurdity.
I hung out with Dug for a couple hours during NAMM 2013 at the Schecter Party at The Grove. We stood directly in front of Tommy Victor during Prong's set & completely geeked out together. Such a kind and wonderful person.
How many fans remember King's X? dUg is such a cool dude...
Bass a soooo important to any genre. Great sounds here.
We are not worthy of the riff MONSTER that is Dogman. Thanks for sharing the interview, Pete!
Jaysus Pete ! just when i think you couldn't get any cooler ! Doug Pinnick!
Two of my favorite people demoing an amazing pedal i just discovered, using one of my favorite songs to demo it, with the DI out, like I wanted to hear. Exactly what I wanted when I needed it, and more. Thank you, God Almighty.

Pedal is awesome. Dug is awesomer!
That sounded MASSIVE!!!!!!! wow. Just killer!.
You hit it out of the park with this one, bravo Pete.
Oh yeah ! That bassist would make anyone totally rock out and sound great
Great hearing just the bass line from the verse of _Over My Head_, the way it jigsaws together with the guitar is brilliant...
glad to see Dug get his own pedal! He's one of my all time favorite musicians and his music has always been an inspiration to me.
Anybody that loves Chris Squire is alright by me. Thanks Pete.
Legend of a musician Legend of a band 👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍💙💜
Nice interview. Thanks for giving him and King's X more exposure. If just a fraction of your followers check them out, that's a job well done.
How did I miss this one! Got to meet Dug and the rest of the band when opening for them in NYC a few years back. Have every King's X and KXM album. Dug is the man! You totally nailed Ty's parts on Dogman too! Great segment.
LOVE DuG. Spoke with Ty a few weeks ago and he's super cool as well.
Ahhhh, the musicians band! Major Kings X fan since the late 80's killer vid Pete!
Jesus, I love every second of this - thank you!!!
This is still the best Bass sound I've ever heard. A year later and I'm still in awe
This makes me so happy.
This was great Pete! Dug’s awesome. And I can seriously listen to you two jam on “dogman” on a continuous loop.
Pete you have made my entire year and it's only March.
This is great....I also spotted Pete at the Kings X show the Whiskey a couple of years back. Awesome show.
King's X!!! Love these guys!
THIS IZ the GREATEST youtube VID ever...Period
Pete - your metal side has been surfacing lately. Have to say you've got the knack - why have you been hiding it? Great conversation with Doug.
Killer, dUg rules! This pedal is sick! I'm not really much of a bass player, but I need one.
Dug is the man! Met him at Golden Gods 2012...
What a great video, two of my favorite musicians. Great hearing the story of how you developed your sound because I LOVE your sound. The dUg sound is the definitive bass sound.
Thanks Pete for that gift. KING'S X the most underated band in the whole history. I miss for new records from them
I love King's X!

Awesome video! I was late to discovering King's X but I've been enjoying going back through their albums the last couple years. Incredible musicians and songs!
That was funny watching Pete geek out like we would meeting a legendary player. Great video Pete! Dug's other project KXM is just KILLER!
Huge Kings X fan! Awesome to see Dug in an interview - thanks Pete, your demos and reviews are always top notch.
Pete, you nailed that Dogman riff. Fan since the early '90s. Such a good good band. Thank you so much.

James Furr when and where?
So much love, thank you Pete and dUg.
First of all-you are a GREAT guitarist!! How fun to jam with dUg! Second, really good interview-good questions, and you didn’t try and tell your own stories and talk over a legend. Awesome job.
Wow Doug is the best musician most people havent heard of love his work
Nice! Been into King'S since Gretchen. Entwistle was a fan of the high end as well.
Doug is the bass tone king ! Great interview. I have great memories of being part of the sound crew in the late 90's doing a few shows in Maine for Kings X, awesome group of great musicians.
