Anyone who doesn’t have hearing loss - and I’m someone who has hearing loss - probably doesn’t understand how frustrating it is. Thanks to Mr. Simon for sharing his experience.
Is your hearing just gone or is it drowned out by ringing? My dad has tinnitus that drives him insane. Doc says it’s from dehydration but he can’t drink as much as he needs to bc of prostate issues (very slow growing cancer).
Life is way wiser than we are...just look at the intricacies required for the functioning of the human mind and body not to mention Creation itself. When life presents us with something we don't like or want, in reality, it's offering us an opportunity to change our direction for our BENEFIT which few people seem to realize at the moment but often understand in retrospect. Don't know why Paul's not taking the hint...it's time to focus on more important aspects of his life as he nears its end (at least here in the physical realm). I truly appreciate his musical contributions but perhaps it's time to focus on resolution of internal issues or some type of world or community service work. Consider the possible opportunities. 💞
I admire what he is doing- coming to terms with the changes that happen with aging - and working with what he has . I know that I will play my guitar and sing as long as I am able and will continue to write songs as long as the inspiration is there.
Anthony Mason is a fabulous interviewer. He asks great questions and really listens. He brought out Paul Simon at his most authentic and brilliant. Thank you both!
Agreed. He's the one interviewer I could watch for hours. Love that when he's trying to get more from the subject he's not pushy about it. He has a wonderful way with people.
Anthony always seems to thoroughly enjoy his interviews with music artists. I can tell he’s a fan of most genres and the people who create and produce.
It would be so easy for him to just ride off into the sunset and retire but you can tell he still has the passion for music after all these years. A true artist and a true professional from every ounce of his being. How could you not love Paul Simon! ❤
God love ya Paul Simon. I've listened to you for most of my life. Its hard to see your favorite icons becoming old and having issues. I admire his tenacity to continue to perform his art. Much love Paul. ❤

Paul Simon is such a courageous man. He is an inspiration on so many levels and is dealing with adversity in such a positive way. Love how he expressed being grateful for all the wonderful blessings rather than focus on the negative.
Paul, always the consummate intellectual. His self-awareness, thoughtfulness and intelligence always shone through in his music and that’s what I’ve loved about it
No surprise Paul Simon still sharp as a tack and able to articulate his hearing loss so well. Was always a fan of Simon & Garfunkel so many great songs that have stood the test of time. Graceland was a masterpiece and one of the best albums of the '80's.
Such a national treasure and perhaps the most gifted singer and songwriter in American pop history. And don't forget that he has always been an absolutely phenomenal guitar player. His lyrics are stunning, evoking various emotions as nobody else can. Perhaps my favorite lyric of all time from him comes from the song America. "Cathy, I'm lost, I said... though I knew she was sleeping." The whole song is about searching for (and not finding) direction, and you can just feel the sense of loneliness in that line.
I really appreciate him being so open about it. Hearing is really a challenging one when it starts to go, especially from those of us who built our lives around hearing with music or other auditory work. Very courageous and he’s thinking of the bigger picture, he thinks about others in the same struggle if he’s doing an interview like this. Thank you, Paul Simon.
Saw Paul Simon on his farewell tour when he came to Orlando. It was astounding! Always the gifted artist, arranger and director as he was since the very beginning of his career.
I always enjoy Anthony Mason interviews with musicians… he asked thoughtful questions and shines light on the artists being interviewed… I can’t imagine what it’s like for Paul Simon not to have his hearing… but he finds a way to deal with it as best he can… I hope technology can help as much as possible… and Thanks 🙏 for all the music 🎶 you’ve given to the world… You are a Blessing…
Have loved his music from the beginning and will always love him as a musician and singer. His music is the definition of beautifully expressive poetry!🥰🥰🥰. Thank you so much, Paul, for sharing your wonderfully brilliant gifts!
I can completely relate to what Paul is going through....I played drums for nearly 40 years before my sudden and severe hearing loss back in 2018 which left me permanently and 100% deaf in my right ear. Because of this, I am no longer able to play. I cannot begin to explain how every single aspect of my life has been affected ever since. The frustration and depression can sometimes feel a little bit overwhelming but as Paul said you just focus on what you CAN do, not on what you are no longer able to do. I am currently 60 and have been a fan of Simon and Garfunkel my entire life......thank you Paul for all of the great music. I will always admire you.
Well interesting. Paul Simon we adore you for your upbeat optimism. You are a legend. I'm 62 have loved your music all my life. I admire you for the determination and you seem stronger than the last year interview. So see how far you've come and just know that to Us, your fans, we want to hear you sing regardless and we love you.
Paul helped me find a way to navigate my adolescent youth. I can't say enough about his influences throughout my life. A supreme poet and musical genius.

You are amazing Paul , you must know you are loved by so many. Miss you and your incredible talent. Can't wait " Lord willing" to hear you again. However, we still have you, thats a blessing as well. Ca calling!
What an interesting, honest and insightful interview. When I first saw Simon and Garfunkel on the Andy Williams Show, I was aged eleven. I think it was in 1966. They sang Scarborough Fair and I was smitten there and then. In the following decades I learned as many of Paul's songs as I could, and I still play and sing them today at age sixty-nine. Thank you Paul for the magic songs and recordings.
People don't understand how devastating about hearing loss. I was born with hearing loss, love music, but as I get older, I get scared . How will I become?
I have hearing loss and use technology for hearing loss. I only play mostly with a guitar in a quiet room while recording. It is a wonderful feeling to accomplish and complete a song without interference.
I can both appreciate and relate to Paul’s disappointment as an aging musician having his health impact his ability to do what he enjoys and loves. I am seventy five and have played guitar for over forty years, and I have developed severe osteoarthritis in both of my hands. I can no longer form chords with my left hand and I very much miss the pleasure I derived from playing my instruments. In looking at my situation I researched my potential alternatives to giving up playing guitar altogether and discovered that I could try playing slide guitar. I did find that I have had some success with playing slide, and like Paul as he ages if life gives you lemons make lemonade.
Thank you for your wonderful songs Mr. Simon. I have been listening to your songs since my High school days. Your guitar playing is top notch as well. Peace and all the best.
If I could take only one album to a deserted island with me it would be Simon & Garfunkel’s greatest hits. And I was a teenager in the 80’s loving VanHalen and Whitesnake and so on! ☺️ Love Simon’s solo stuff, too. He’s a legendary genius of course. ❤️
It's crazy that he mentioned Matisse, as I immediately thought of him as this interview began; thinking of how an artist loses the ability to use his "tools" and what options are available to them. Matisse was unable to hold a paint brush later in life so he figured out how to hold/use a pair of scissors and cut out his visions in paper-creating some very memorable art. Let's hope Simon can "cut out" some new-cool art.
