I am sure many will agree, Phil is one of the best fisherman in the Newport Back Bay in terms of all types of species. Learn a lot from all of his videos and he is such a great guy as well. Shout out from Cebu Philippines and hope to have him shoot some great content from here in the future😊
I always enjoy your videos Phil. Man, I was float tubing in Newport Harbor on Sunday from 6-9:30. Launched at Coast Guard Beach and that weather was so crazy that morning. Rain off and on, wind changes directions like three times! I ended up with 7 Spotties and 1 Sandy.
Hi Kevin! Yep, it's good to get back out there. Had a lot of things going on last month and it cut into my fishing time. I tried the plastic but the fish were biting the bait rod pretty quickly so I just turned my attention to that. I met a dude named Andrew out there, he had a good day on the Bass. He has a UA-cam channel called "Fishing with Stingray Drew", cool guy!
I recently started watching this channel because I am planning a trip from Boston to Huntington Beach. I have to say, very good fishing knowledge on how to fish there. Hopefully when I go out there I will catch a fish or two. Great channel! Amazing the different species out there from the East Coast.
Hi Rick! Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it very much! I checked out your channel and I see what you mean by the different species on each coast. I've never been able to make it to the east coast to fish, but it's definitely a bucket list item for me. Hopefully you get some fish when you get out here. Newport Beach Harbor is only a few miles south from Huntington Beach. While Los Alamitos Harbor and Huntington Harbor are to the north. Fishing is slow right now but usually picks up in March. Good luck out there. Hit me up if you have any questions.
I go to balboa Island 2-4 times a year and its hard to get info on shore or dock fishing in this area. Everything online is from a boat. Your videos have helped a lot in my struggle to teach myself how to fish.
@@anglertoanglerfishing6652 Yeah I fish the coral st dock when I am there. Last time I tried throwing baits around the canal but. Being a rookie fisherman from arizona its the blind leading the blind in a circle room. not going anywhere.
So what’s the purpose of the video if you don’t want to give valuable information? By the way don’t hold the fish by the gills, just like trout take your time hold the fish with wet hands and let him go. 🤔
@@springteen3743 The purpose of the video is to explain the technique I used to catch them. Not the spot where I caught them. You can use this technique anywhere in the harbor and have a chance to catch a few. If you do some research you can find out exactly where I was fishing. Do the work like we all do and you will find the spots. Thanks for the feedback.🙂
@@Dangerousrides You can can fish it from shore but only in certain spots. You cannot fish the area from any floating device like a boat, kayak, float tube or paddle board. The fish and game office is located back there so the officers are out there all the time patrolling.
@@garyvannguyen Basically, cast out, let the lure hit the bottom, lift the rod tip so the lure lifts off the bottom about 2 feet, let the lure settle back to the bottom, repeat until the lure gets back to you. Hopping off the bottom might be a better term.

Thanks man. I'm glad to help. Next time you are in Newport look up public docks in Newport Harbor. There are several that you can fish from.

Nice. Where do you gey your mussels from
I usually get them from the jetties and pilings at low tide.
I've tried that spot twice and it's horrible. I'm surprised you caught something.
I hear ya. I've fished it several times and caught nothing. Got lucky this time I guess.🙂

Hi there! You can get them from the jetties at low tide, or pull them from the pilings and public docks.🙂👍

Back bay area.

I can't tell you exactly cause I don't want to burn the spot. Hope you understand. Best I can say is it's Newport back Bay. Hope that helps.🙂

If you not keeping the fish just tail hold them as trout and wet your hands first. Do not stick your fingers through the gills 🙏
How do I reel in the plastic bait to get spotted bass yo bite?
I like to cast out and bounce it along the bottom. Fish this way in the channel and around structure. Hope this helps!🙂
