      Mr. The3Birdman I would like add my own take at 10:28 I see this scene as showing the kids are still kids even in the suit, in the game it makes sense to not explore that however correct me if I’m wrong in the game (after the first installment) also tells us that the animatronics only attack because they think the player is the same security guard who unalive them. (Sorry for this being SUPER long.)

      I just want to say, thank you. I felt like the movie was really lacking the true terror of fnaf and also made a lot of unnecessary changes from the lore and tone. It doesn’t even have the proper lighting or ominous atmosphere from the games.
      Also, the age rating just feels too limiting. Not saying it should be a gore fest, but at least show us loads of blood with Springlock scene.
      Not to mention, the scene where the animatronics are acting like kids could’ve still been terrifying. Just don’t show them moving and show the after math of it, making Michael and the viewer question if someone had broken in or if it were the animatronics.

    • @ImpulseEvan37
      @ImpulseEvan37 7 місяців тому +267

      I agree, but technically that’s not even a difference, the animatronics have never really been the villains, and the movie was pretty much entirely accurate with that. It was kinda hammering home that point with the fort scene and preparing us for the fact that there would be an ACTUAL villain

    • @Th3Birdman
      @Th3Birdman  7 місяців тому +442

      Antagonist =/= villain.
      You can be an antagonist but not a bad guy, and a bad guy but the protagonist.
      The Kens in Barbie are antagonists but are not villains. The Barbies are the villains in that story, but the protagonists.

      @@avalonplemel8933 Your comment is implicative; since you are responding to me specifically referring to the animatronics as antagonists, your usage of the words "sympathetic characters" are in direct contrast. So I simply clarified that they can be sympathetic characters, but also antagonists. I think a lot of ghosts in ghost stories are sympathetic, being that they died under circumstances of being abused, killed by another bad person, etc. But being that they haunt the protagonist, they are antagonists.

    @AgenteFuego 7 місяців тому +393

    10:36 The fort scene makes perfect sense within FNAF lore despite the animatronics being the antagonists. It was established all the way back in the second game that they only attack adults, so it makes sense they would want to play with Abby and not attack right now as not to scare her.
    The one time an animatronic attacked a kid was because it was not possessed yet and it was programed to do so by William.
    Aside form that, great video, as always.

  • @humanoid251
    @humanoid251 7 місяців тому +394

    I agree the whole building a fort with Abby thing was pretty weird BUT to play devil’s advocate there is precedent to this in the game lore. I believe it’s in the FNAF 2 phone calls where Phone Guy says that the animatronics aren’t “acting right” but he makes note that they only seem to be acting aggressive towards adults and not kids. So the possessed animatronics being friendly to kids and not adults is an established piece of the lore and I assume the fort building scene was their way of showing that

    So, I'll admit, I had this gnawing little pit of dread in my stomach during the fort scene, because my mind was not on the fort building itself, but rather on what it theoretically achieves. Considering that a major plot point of the film was Mike trying to cope with a predator taking his brother, my thought was more immediately on how a predator would take Abby despite Mike being there. The most logical answer to me: build up their trust by acting playful so they drop their guard.

      FNAF gameplay is fine but by far not the crown jewel of the series. It isn't anything mind blowing and absolutely not why the game got popular by any means, but it also isn't particularly bad either. IMO the gameplay, on its own/in a vacuum, is pretty mid.

    8:23 they could also be stealing tokens is because, well, scalping reasons.
    Depending on when the FNAF movie takes place, tokens have been mostly phased out, even Chuck E' Cheese is phasing them out, and they've been replaced with game cards. Heck even our local Cici's got rid of being able to play the games with cash, you NEED a Cici's game card to play them now. Not to mention, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza as a franchise in-universe closed down due to the incident, so for them to steal a bunch of tokens means that they could theoretically sell them to collectors and enthusiasts for biiiiiig money!! Rare Freddy Fazbear Tokens? Claim you had a bunch of them from when it was opened and sell them for hundreds if not thousands of dollars online!
    If it takes place in the 90s, having rare Fazbear Tokens could also be just a massive bragging right too.

    You can see just how much the movie caters to fans with things like this. There were a lot of things people complained about that are honestly totally on-brand for FNAF, but that they weren’t expecting because they know FNAF as “that horror game with the murderous animatronics that jumpscare you.” The interpersonal relationship drama, the animatronics not being villains, the campiness- none of these surprised me, since I’ve been a fan ever since the series started. But people unfamiliar with the franchise went in expecting something very different, so it makes sense that they walked out like “What did I just watch” lol

    Honestly the moment we got told "this will be different from the games" I went "alright cool, what we doing?" A little unstable home drama, switching the afton and Emily families, having Vanessa be Michael's daughter, basically everything thats REQUIRED when you're using different backstories for characters that have been preestablished? I had no problem with that. The animatronics building a fort? Yes please! Id love to know how active the child souls are in the suits and seeing them in the dreams? Lovely little touch.
    Also, Golden Freddy teleports. Yep. Thats what he do. For someone complaining about how the movie isnt like the game he sure does overlook things that are like the game. I think the biggest surprise to most fans was that it could actually move and had weight.
    Honestly if you're up to date on the franchise you should be used to the "similar but not the same" vibes the movie gives. Its the only way to stay sane.

  • @JamminGiant117

    I knew when I watched the movie that CinemaSins would never bother to research the lore. They can’t be bothered to research more simple things, so the FNaF lore was definitely too complicated for them.
    I personally appreciate that it’s not a direct one-to-one. If it were, then we’d know EVERYTHING that’s going to happen, what characters are going to die, and how it all began.
    Scott seems to like making different stories out of the different media formats that FNaF reaches. The games have the main story, the books have a separate story that shares some similarities, and now the movie(s) seem to be going for that as well. If it were all the same, what would be the point?
    The different stories offer new ways of looking at the characters. In some, the animatronics lean more into the murderous horror side. In others, they lean more into the souls of children side. In one type, we’re afraid of them while in the other, we feel sorry for them.

    CinemaSins really shouldn't have touched on anything to do with a fandom like this. Most of what was in the movie, and really the idea of the movie itself, was all for the fans. The "I always come back" line, the appearance of Golden Freddy's spirit when it speaks to Abby, etc. were for the fans, not to make the best movie with the best plot. It's the main reason why it got a pretty bad score from critics and a really high score from audiences. It wasn't supposed to be the latest and greatest award winning film. It was more of a high-budget fan project.

So, in summary, I enjoyed this movie and a lot of the stuff in it made sense.

    My take on this movie is that I’m mixed on it. As for CinemaSins, I actually agree with his complaints about Williams presence, because Vanessa feels pointless in this film and that William should’ve been in the scenes she was in. I get that she’s in the latest games, but still. As for the table fort scene, I understand your complaint about the film muddying weather or not the animatronics are antagonists or not, but it felt kinda cathartic seeing these kids have fun considering their situation. As for your comment saying the film should’ve followed the games lore more closely, a lot of people I’ve seen online disagree because they think it would just make the films story confusing, and my argument is that the games are confusing because 1. Scott was making it up as he went since the first game was supposed to be a one shot originally before it got big 2. because the series makes it so that you need books that give hints to the story but don’t take place in the same timeline and 3. the games try to tell a linear story exclusively through cryptic hints, so of course the story is going to be a mess on some level imo, and a fan film by Ex Blue managed to follow the games lore a lot more closely and still make a good story out of it, so it was definitely possible. That’s my take at least. Granted, I find the gameplay of these games oddly addictive (probably due to nostalgia admittedly most likely a part of that because of nostalgia because I was one of “those kids” when the first four games came out), and I hate barbecue sauce, supposedly the “best” burger condiment).
    Hopefully I worded this comment well.
