My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
    Enjoy browsing!

Never heard the "rinse with tap water before swimming" tip! I love swimming (in any pool or ocean) so that's super helpful

I can confirm that these tips can really work. I did summer field research for archaeology a couple years back where it was almost a 100F and full sun. I will say that wearing a sun hat and a French braid really keeps the hair protected from the sun. I also found that since I was having to wash it more (archaeology=soil) every time I washed my hair I just skipped normal conditioner, and always used conditioning mask like a normal conditioner. Now idk if this work for everyone, but the best thing that I noticed for my hair, was to always wash with cool/cold water. Seriously, I’ve always struggled with growing my hair out, and in that summer my hair grew like 4 inches lol.

another tip for swimming is, if u can, use a swimming cap. obviously not the most stylish thing ever but since chlorine can really damage your hair it helps a lot!

Very useful tips. And dark hair knows how to get extremely hot within a short amount of time. I use UV hair products even though they are definitely expensive but I spend a lot of time on the beach so it's an useful investment though I didn't buy this year courtsey of quarantine. I thoroughly enjoyed the video.

When i was made to take swimming in school my hair got so damaged. It went from medium brown to brown fringe around a bright red in back that faded to light blonde. Ended up pulling it into a low pony and cutting it off to make it look on purpose.

As someone with long and thick and colourd dark pink hair, I've already overheated twice to the point where I fainted andgot woozy lol That happened with my hair up and I had been drinking a lot as well. My body temp is quite high normally though, so it makes sense but yeah. Definitely liked the tips tho!
Oh and, my hair actually gets super soft when bathing in salt water lmao it's super weird

I always oil my hair before I go swimming. Best is overnight but a coat applied before a spontaneaous visit to the public swimming pool is also a good help.
I just use whatever oil I have on hand.

Might sound stupid but would oils "fry" the hair (specially dark hair) in the sun?

    • @matildas3177
      @matildas3177 4 роки тому +4

I think that depends on the oils, but I think so yes. They certainly do fry your hair if you use them before blow drying or flat ironing/curling it.

There's a certified natural hair care brand Lagona that has affortable and safe heat protector. Especially if you swim a lot in natural warters you NEED to take into consideration the effects your products have on the environment. And of course it's also good to care for the health of the people around you in pools too.

I use salt water spray to help style my hair, usually. So I wonder if that is kind of the same as swimming in salt water? Or does the hair react different on those two?

I have curly frizzy ringlet hair and I usually straighten it with a hair iron. I use "It's A 10 Miracle heat protectant" but it is *expensive*. I wish I could find something with similar ingredients that is more affordable. :\ I really want to get either the Revlon One Step or the Hot Tools version but, I'm not sure how it would be on very curly hair.. And if it would be more heat damaging or less that blow drying and then ironing.. I'm sure it would cut out so much time if it works!

Something I didn’t hear you mention in regard to summer hair- humidity and how that can affect hair. I know that my hair instantly becomes frizzy and even curlier (why I don’t even bother straightening my hair in the summer. No point, I’ll have curls at the front and at my neck within 5 minutes).
    Any tips for that?

hair gel! I like forming a gel cast when i air dry my hair, and then scrunching it out when its fully dry. It doesn't completely get rid of frizz, but it definitely helps a lot. There are some great tutorials on youtube about how to do it. They saved my hair and my sanity when i moved to Florida.

I only WASH my hair once a week.(i do take showers more but i only wash my hair on Sundays)
I find that during the summer my hair gets SUPER DRY.
It gets so dry it SERIOUSLY does not grow!
I am ALSO on accutane for my skin(ITS AMAZING)...so that makes my hair even dryer!
LUCKILY this is my last month on accutane.
    But about my hair...
Even without accutane my hair is super dry in summer...my hair seems to not grow for about 3-4 months through summer...
My hair has such a hard time growing and idk what to do to help it grow!
Ive tried growing it for YEARS!
    Like 6 years.
I cut it 6 years ago real short to about my chin.
Because before that i had tried for 8 years to grow it out.
IT NEVER GOES MUCH FARTHER THAN MY COLLAR BONE.
The LONGEST i got it was about 2 inches above my nipples...but the ends were real dead and uneven so i had to trim it to even it up.
I used to wash my hair daily...that was even worse for it. So washing more will not help.
ANY HELP ON GROWING MY HAIR WOULD BE GREAT!

    • @StormyIness
      @StormyIness 4 роки тому +1

Use a leave in conditioner and get regular trims every several months. Deep condition your hair once in a while. Wear it in braids or buns to protect the ends from the damage. Be careful when you brush your hair. Sleep on a silk/satin pillow case. I hope this was helpful!
