Thanks, I wash my hair every day with natural soap or shampoo, i don't use conditioner, i don't know is conditioner healthy? . My hair is neck length and I want it thicker and longer.
@@danihaiden890 I personally can’t live without conditioner. It’s much, much more important than shampoo. I did used to just co-wash (was using a conditioner only), but it does require quite a bit more effort in terms of working it into your scalp and roots, and I’m disabled, so that’s a bit difficult for me now. So I use a shampoo that is sulphate free (I find sulphates really dry out my hair and scalp and give me dandruff), and then a conditioner that is silicone free. Silicones work to coat the hair strand, and they leave it looking shiny and smooth, but they can also prevent moisture from getting in. Silicones can also be difficult to remove from your hair without sulphates (hence why most shampoos have sulphates in them- they’re what makes shampoos very sudsy). But if you’re not putting silicone in, you don’t need sulphates to get it out. So no sulphates and no silicones. And I use a LOT of conditioner- but I also have dry and curly hair, your mileage may vary. I also use a leave in conditioner, Argan oil, and a conditioning cream that I find works well to lock the oil in. The most important thing for my hair is that it is well moisturised. But that’s because of how naturally dry my hair is. Oh, and my hair is waist length and growing- it’s grown about six inches this last year, so I figure I’m doing something right. I got a lot of my info on how to care for my hair from the Natural hair community, and Black women. I’m white, but my hair has similar issues (dryness, tangles, frizz, etc). I’ve also worked in some very old hair care techniques, like always putting it into a braid for sleeping (or just keeping it in the braid if I’m not styling it). I’ve found that has really reduced both tangles and breakage. And I don’t care about maintaining my curls from day to day, so plaits work well for me. Other great tips include using satin type scarves, bonnets, and pillowcases. It doesn’t have to be silk, poly satin is fine- what matters is that the material feels very smooth to the touch. That is one of the first tips I learned from the natural hair community, and it applies to all hair types. So as to your original question- the idea of going without conditioner made me wince. A real big wince. But that’s partly due to my hair type. Shampoo (even the natural stuff) strips the hair of its natural oils, so you want to put moisture back into it. Going without conditioner can also lead to your scalp working overtime to produce oil on its own, because it feels how dry everything is. Which means you then need to wash your hair more often as it looks greasy quicker. It might sound weird, but conditioner actually prevents overly oily hair. So my recommendation is to find a good conditioner that works well for your hair type, and preferably has no silicones. If you aren’t sure, have a look on the ingredients list- anything that ends with “cone” is a silicone. Like Dimethicone. That’s the most common one you’ll see. And you should be getting things that have water (aqua/agua) as their first ingredient, and also where the fragrance isn’t too high up on the list- it should be near the end of the list. Best of luck.
EmmaAppleBerry I’m from Australia too. The sun is so strong it bleaches my hair to a medium brown. I’ve been covering my hair every time I get sun exposure for over a year now. In my teens I kept dying my hair black but now I have naturally black hair just by protecting it from the sun.
your hair oil is life-changing! 🥰 i have been using your DIY hair oil and for the first time in my life, my hair is healthy and shiny and easy to work with 💕 i have a natural curly, thick, dry and frizzy hair. now it's bouncy and happy thanks to you 💕
Heatless curls are a game changer. I basically do the same thing as you, one day of nice, fresh straight hair, and the next day - heatless curls. I absolutely love your tutorials, they helped me a lot, especially when experimenting during lockdown, haha :)
I use a silk pillowcase, my hair is too short for a bun. Another thing that helps with your hair is to make sure you are not anemic. Low iron levels in the blood can contribute to split ends in the hair
Eh, my hair is very wavy, and I find that sleeping on a satin pillowcase with wet hair brings the waves all the way up to the roots and turns some of those 2c waves into 3a curls. My hair doesn't respond well to heavy oils; the most I usually do is a light glaze/scrunch in the morning to tamp down any escaped fly-aways. It really depends on your hair, and finding what works best for you! Besides, I'm too lazy to defuse upside down after hair washing days XD
I don't know if I'm just bad at doing buns, but my hair is very straight and very fine and just doesn't want to stay up in a bun, especially when I'm moving around at night. I've started putting my hair in two loose braids and making sure not to tie it too tight at the bottom. My hair doesn't even really need to be brushed a second time in the morning. It's great.
My hair is actually quite textured, and I can do buns with nothing to hold it but my hair (no bands, no pins, nothing), but I still prefer plaits or braids for sleeping because I find that they prevent tangles the best. And I don’t care about keeping my curl pattern pretty because I either don’t leave the house, or wear my hair up most of the time. The only time my hair is curly and down is immediately after washing it. And then I plait it agin before bed.
Yes! I was sleeping in a loose ponytail or bun on the top of my head then stopped bc I felt it was contributing to my hair breakage, my hairdresser agreed and advised me that two loose braids is a much better way to avoid overnight hair breakage.
Omg I love your mug! I agree, I always sleep with hair tied and it's the best. I Don't find oils beneficial at all on me. Prefer pre shampoo treatments with conditioner, yolks, honey to add moisture and shine.
Hair stylist here. The ideas are good, they do help, HOWEVER, some consideration for maximum efficiency: - Tie the hair before sleep: be careful with HOW you do it, dont make a high tight bun. Ideally, you should choose a medium tension braid over a bun, not that buns are bad, but the braid is a little more gentle to the hair. - Overnight oil treatments: they are GREAT. For a more light (superficial) protection, a normal styling leave in oil is good. Deep moisturizing/nutrifying treatments should be done with EXTRA VIRGIN OILS ONLY. For these, you can put the oils in the scalp too, so that the hair folicule can absorb the nutrients too, the only oil you SHOULD NEVER PUT ON YOUR ROOTS is coconut oil. It can create blockages in the folicules and your skin. Coconut oil is a good friend to your hair, it just cant go on the roots. Jojoba, olive and castor for roots are the best options and you can make your own mix, just mix the oils at the application time. Try not to mix a big batch, mix only the amount necessary to coat your hair. - Overnight curls: it's a case by case situation. It can be great for people with healthy, strong, virgin hair. But for people with coarse, dry, damaged, porous hair, IT'S A NO NO. These types of hair are too sensitive and prone to breakage. These types of hair actually do better with heat styling. The tips are pretty solid, and other than adapting them for your type of hair, there's not much to add. If i could give one tip of my own: get satin or silk pillowcases. They help with the hair frizz, shine and reduce damage. They are also really good for the skin.
I like to sleep with my hair in two braids, or with the front bits in rag curls and the back in one braid. I still get split ends, but definitely not as many, and it keeps my hair wavy (or curly) and untangled.
If I do anything with it like braiding or putting it up it will always keep the shape the next morning. For braiding it means that it's gonna be uneven and krimpy (because part of my hair always loosens up over night or the elestic will slide up or out) and for putting it up it means that I will wake up with the most ridiculous volume at the roots. If I do a low bun I will either wake up without the elastic or my hair will still have a dent where I "folded" it. Not a fan of sleeping with "done" hair ^^
Thanks for the good tips! And yes, putting oil in your hair every night makes such a difference, especially in its shine. My issue with the overnight curls is that I don’t get the overall volume I do with a blow dryer and curling iron. Does anyone know how to fix this?
When I sleep with wet hair I wake up with the best curls! Never had any issues, but I have very thick and strong hair, so I can be a little rough. Funnily enough, my hair doesn’t really tangle either.
Just a heads up, oil in itself don't add moisture. It is in it's name, it's oil not water. If your hair feel like it needs moisture, you can use oil to help seal moisture in by adding oil to wet or slightly damp hair. Edit to add: I do this especially in the winter months when the air is more dry, I dampen my ends in the morning and add a light oil like almond oil and it helps with the dryness and prevent split ends.
@@zi6803 You are far from alone in this, I used to wonder myself why everyone was raving about oiling their hair and what wonders it did for their hair, as I was putting oil on my dry hair for the longest time. :P
I have curly hair naturally and I found the rare times I do go to bed with wet (or even damp) hair it actually ruins the curls by making them flat more like waves. Even if my hair is dry the curls do flatten when I sleep but not nearly as bad and I just put a curl reviver in my hair in the morning. Before anyone says anything about tying my hair up at night to save the curls I cannot stand having my hair tied up at night in anyway. (I have to put my hair up for work anyways so they then do get ruined but still on my days off I like having my hair down)
interesting how it differs among people cause I also have curly hair and mine looks better when I sleep on it wet lol. I can't have my hair tied up at night either, in part because having it up all day (I also need to have it up for work) makes my scalp cranky if I don't have it loose overnight
I've got 2c/3a curls. I sleep with my hair flipped over and in a cotton scarf. Satin doesn't stay on because I'm a rough sleeper. I've found not tying it and just letting the scarf keep it up has been better for my hair. It's definitely gotten longer. I may use the oil tip, but sparingly as my hair gets oily if I use too much
Anytime i had slept with wet hair, i got sick. I have been using caster oil. I cant use it too much because washing it out annoys my scalp, so once a month i make sure to remember to add it in

To be honest, my hair looks and feels healthier after I have stopped using oils. My hair used to break a lot and look really dry while using different kinds of oils (mainly jojoba, coconut and olive). It's weird...
I think that is because of the protein/moisture balance. I had the same problem and quit using moisturizing oils and started with hair care that contains proteins like keratin ☺️
I believe this is because the oils form a film that prevents the hair from absorbing moisture from the environment and treatments. I think that a way to avoid this is to use products that contain humectants before the oil and only then seal the hair with some oil that will prevent this moisture from being lost to the environment. I also think that periodic use of an anti-residue shampoo is important as well.
@@momovalentine7409, yea, now that you mentioned, I think that was the issue. I started using a mask with goat milk protein (called Ziaja) and my hair kinda fixed itself. Now I use Garnier Hair food with banana and my hair never looked better, to be honest. Thank you for your input!
@@Jordana1917, yeaaa! I apply now and then a few drops of hyaluronic acid on my damp hair as well, after my hair has been washed and treated with a mask. Great improvement
I get a lot of breakage whenever i sleep with either a plait/braid or when i tie my hair up (with a silk scrunchie) or just put it in a bun so sometimes i just sleep with my hair down but that causes a lot of split ends. Does anyone know what i could do to prevent any breakage and split ends?
Try the silk or satin pillow case or the silk head wrap? And yeah i guess make take some vitamines and do the other good things. Watch some videos of black ladies/ people protecting thier natural hair .. thats really where I have learned the most about hair care
I do the same except putting my hair up because with my very straight hair it won't stay up if loosely tighten and doing overnight curls (I just don't like it). I use drugstore hair oils because I've been told some oils can be irritating (olive oil in my memory is one of them ?) and I'm too lazy to learn which one so I take the preformulated ones for hair before combing it. I don't know if it makes a very big difference as I do not have hair that is prone to split ends but I do wake up with a lot smoother hair than if I sleep with wet or unconditioned hair, that's for sure !
@@doroehm8395 great that works for you. But I get pimples even if I leave any amount of oil/grease even for an hour or two, despite keeping a very regular skincare routine. The struggle is real for some of us. Happy for you tho!
i have alopecia and dont have much hair left but it is shoulder length so I'm trying to find the best way to wear my hair at night to keep from doing any damage or losing more hair... anyone know how?
Youre applying too much. The hair cant absorb excessive amounts of oil anyways try just a few drops depends on the density of ur hair and see how it goes.
so if I can't sleep with wet hair, how does it work with the overnight curls, witch should be wet or dammed? is it because they will be curled up that it doesn't damage the hair?
That may even be a better option. Because at night we toss and turn so using a satin pillow case will reduce the amount of friction on the hair strands or else you can get a satin bonnet or scarf and put/tie it on your hair.

What about brushing? I was told to go back to using a natural brush and give my hair a good, gentle brushing before bed. But I’ve read that over-brushing is a cause of split ends and breakage. I think it distributes oils, natural and added. But is it damaging? Yikes!
Does anyone have any tips for someone with really really thick hair? Any hairstyles to keep hair up but also healthy? I have a sensitive scalp and live in a tropical climate so putting or leaving my hair up is quite painful but necessary so i don't overheat (i only recently started growing my hair out long- I've only ever had short hair until now) so any tips will be welcome!
put your hair up but very very on the top front (almost like a unicorn), where the gravity wont weigh down your hair and it just sit on your head. i have a very thick heavy hair and if i set my bun on the top-back it will pull my front roots. also use srunchies/loose ties. if i want to wear my hair down i will put a very loose twin braid.
Singeing!!! No joke, it sounds drastic but it has helped my split ends SO MUCH. I wrote a blog post about it: loepsie.com/2020/09/three-months-of-hair-singeing-what-happened/
@Eliza Cosmos I don't really use hair conditioner they really damage my hair but i do trip my ends from time to time but not that frequently because i am trying to grow my already 3ft long hair longer 😂 but thanks for the advise
there is no such thing as terminal length hair oils help moisturize your hair and keep it strong so it can grow and hair and nail gummies will help your nails and your hair grow stronger and thicker
Shout-out to all the people who were taught that sleeping with wet hair would kill you. My curl pattern means my hair takes hours to air dry and it will not dry overnight. It's a guaranteed cold.
1. do not sleep with wet hair
2. sleep with hair up
3. apply oil before going to bed
4. overnight curls only

I do pretty much none of what you said and my hair is healthy and long. 😂
I heard from a pro that wash as hot as you like but make the last rinse cool
your hair oil is life-changing! 🥰 i have been using your DIY hair oil and for the first time in my life, my hair is healthy and shiny and easy to work with 💕 i have a natural curly, thick, dry and frizzy hair. now it's bouncy and happy thanks to you 💕
I read shaved and got shook

this video came at the perfect time! I'm trying to grow my hair out and keep it from breaking up around my hairline
The title shocked me for a second ngl lol You're glowing though Lucy 💕
I love heartless curls! They’re so much better than hot irons, these are awesome tips!
Great tips!! You look amazing in the video.
It's great.
Team super-fine-super-straight hair here, same thing, buns don't hold (especially if I use a soft scrunchie) so loose braids are the way to go. :)
Yes! I braid my hair to sleep too!
Same man, i feel like it just slides down untill i have to detagle it from my ends -face palm-
Yes! I was sleeping in a loose ponytail or bun on the top of my head then stopped bc I felt it was contributing to my hair breakage, my hairdresser agreed and advised me that two loose braids is a much better way to avoid overnight hair breakage.
Sleeping with my hair up or even a lose braid gives me headaches. Then again I have what some call super long hair (it's just below my waist).
Be careful with long-term sleeping with your hair up, you could get traction alopecia from even the minor strain on your hair being held up.
Omg I love your mug! I agree, I always sleep with hair tied and it's the best. I Don't find oils beneficial at all on me. Prefer pre shampoo treatments with conditioner, yolks, honey to add moisture and shine.
Thanks Lucy, I love your videos. Always easy, stylish and fun!! 😉❤️
I use a velvet scrunchi and put my hair up on top, this helps with preventing breakage and adding volume. You're great!
you've always been a big sis for me!
This video was so useful and I love your hair
Hair stylist here.
The ideas are good, they do help, HOWEVER, some consideration for maximum efficiency:
- Tie the hair before sleep: be careful with HOW you do it, dont make a high tight bun.
Love that mug!!!
Early squad♥️😁...Such a helpful video...I love how u look😍 aur bangs compliment u soo well.. i wish i had such bangs too🥺
If I do anything with it like braiding or putting it up it will always keep the shape the next morning.
Sleeping with wet hair is always when my hair looks best but I hate it's bad for it
Love and miss these types of videos. ❤️❤️ I use all these tips. Do you still use tea rinses?
Yes, occasionally 😊
Thanks for the good tips! And yes, putting oil in your hair every night makes such a difference, especially in its shine. My issue with the overnight curls is that I don’t get the overall volume I do with a blow dryer and curling iron. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I looooove your hair because is amazing
That’s a really good tip, thanks for sharing!
wtf so that's why it never worked for me. I always put oil on dry hair and then I wondered why my hair is still frizzy and dry
@@zi6803 You are far from alone in this, I used to wonder myself why everyone was raving about oiling their hair and what wonders it did for their hair, as I was putting oil on my dry hair for the longest time. :P
Aah I can't wait for the singeing video!
omg the mushroom mug aaaaaaaaa now i neeed one
Yay amazing tips I love ur videos!! ^^" 💛🙌🏻🌼
I was just reading about rice water rinsing for hair care ... lol coincidence!?
I may use the oil tip, but sparingly as my hair gets oily if I use too much
Amazing tips💖
She's so pretty and those are killer eyes, suggest growing out the bangs though
Woah? I didn't know texture can damage my hair. Thank you for the information! ❤
Anytime i had slept with wet hair, i got sick. I have been using caster oil. I cant use it too much because washing it out annoys my scalp, so once a month i make sure to remember to add it in
Add sleeping on a satin or silk pillow case
You have beautiful hair 😍
Hi, do you cut your bangs yourself?? They are so cute and exactly the style I want for myself. love the video 😁
The second I saw the title I was you wat
Then I was like ahh right
Wait Whaaaaat!!
Hey! are you a relative of Lalisa Manoban?
Someone should've told you how much you look like her❤❤❤
videos with such beauty are definitely not for skipping. Thanks for the tips👍
This happens to me sometimes too... It's likely that your hair is very porous and absorbs too much of the oil which causes the ends to swell and fray
I get a lot of acne so applying oil before sleep seems counterproductive for me
@@doroehm8395 great that works for you.
If I use oil on my hair at night..it would take me 3 times a day to get it out.
Omg you look so graceful from that angle, I look like a potato from that angle lmao
I was just about to go to bed and I see this. Akwosksksmams Thank you! 💖😢
It seems...you are going to trim your bangs soon👌
This video just came at the right time. What did you mention at 2.15?
I like to shower before dinner so that I am washing off dirt from the day; but, I still have time for my hair to dry completely before bed.
That thumbnail tho 👌💤
How damaging would you say overnight pin curls or foam rollers curls are to the hair? Does it all depend on the set? The products you use?
Totally agree with your routine, but I personally can't do over night oil 😭 my face/pillowcase turn in to an oil slick after one night.
*Some people just open their hair or with wet hair, throw themselves in bed*
No, don't tie your hair in a loose braid or bun before sleeping.
I can't use oil because I have oily scalp :/
You are so cute!, I love to be your subscriber.
What about Satin Pillowcases? I've been thinking about purchasing one. Opinions?
That may even be a better option. Because at night we toss and turn so using a satin pillow case will reduce the amount of friction on the hair strands or else you can get a satin bonnet or scarf and put/tie it on your hair.
Nice eyes
Omg is dat een Efteling blond Amsterdam mok MET PADDESTOEL HENDEL ? I’m sorry weird question maar where did u find that 😱
Love de efteling x blond amsterdam collecties so I have to know 🥰😂
Hahaha ja! Hij was onderdeel van een collectie die... twee jaar geleden? Drie? Bij de AH lag
What hair oil do you use?
What about brushing? I was told to go back to using a natural brush and give my hair a good, gentle brushing before bed. But I’ve read that over-brushing is a cause of split ends and breakage. I think it distributes oils, natural and added. But is it damaging? Yikes!
Yeah, I've heard both as well. I personally don't brush my hair at all, so I'm afraid I can't say anything about that from experience
I have so many split ends any tips for that?
Singeing!!! No joke, it sounds drastic but it has helped my split ends SO MUCH. I wrote a blog post about it: loepsie.com/2020/09/three-months-of-hair-singeing-what-happened/
@@Loepsie thanks i will look up to this
@Eliza Cosmos I don't really use hair conditioner they really damage my hair but i do trip my ends from time to time but not that frequently because i am trying to grow my already 3ft long hair longer 😂 but thanks for the advise
I would suggest you look for fast hair growth fortified shampoo.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love you 😘😘👍
I typically sleep with wet hair bc it doesn’t get as frizzy...when I shower in the morning my hair goes insane. Does anyone know how to combat this?
possibly using oil
there is no such thing as terminal length hair oils help moisturize your hair and keep it strong so it can grow and hair and nail gummies will help your nails and your hair grow stronger and thicker
There is s rule that oil used for your hair should match with your hair type/texture, for exapmle usually curly hair doesn't like coconut oil :)
Shout-out to all the people who were taught that sleeping with wet hair would kill you.
My curl pattern means my hair takes hours to air dry and it will not dry overnight. It's a guaranteed cold.
