      I have long thick hair too and another method I’ve tried that works pretty well (not featured in this video) is rag curls, I just just rolled up tissues and separate my hair into 8 sections and roll and tie them up. Varying results, sometimes really good ringlet curls and other times just a princessy wave/curl at the ends of the hair but way quicker and easier, and can be done with last minute supplies

  • @Kitsune1989
    @Kitsune1989 4 роки тому +1

    I use socks since I have rather thick hair. Wet, grab a section and wrap the end of it around the sock as if you were using a curler as in the last option in video. Roll up as normal. Tie it in a knot. Sleep and then take out. It also has the advantage of being able to make the curls as tight or loose as you want or as high as you want. You can do it really loose and brush it out well to make waves. You can braid it and roll the braids if you want really small curls.

      I've had a chin length bob for the past 3 years and the easiest way I found to curl it is to take your damp hair into sections a little bit bigger than you would put in a roller and just twist it into a bun, secure it with an elastic and let it air dry. You can make your sections however big you want but mine work best with about 1.5 inch sections. It's basically a miniature version of an over night bun all around your head.

  • @julzalta6466
    @julzalta6466 4 роки тому +37

    Yes, heat styling causes damage and breakage on the length of the hair (particularly the outer layer of the hair) BUT... tight hairstyles (like high ponytails or rollers) worn for a long time (like overnight) can cause thinning of the hair if repeated regularly (not breakage, actual hair loss, at the roots) and long period humidity in the hair can cause damage of the inner layer of the hair (resulting also in more breakage if repeated). So I wouldn't say that overnight wet set are an amazing alternative for heat styling, particularly comparing with the use of a moderately hot blow dryer. Once from time to time is alright but not as a go-to method for someone concern about thinning hair. The same goes for not washing the hair. Yes it can prevent breakage because of humidity and combing but your chance of thinning hair due to oxidative stress or dermatitis (dandruff) at the roots goes up. Everything is about balance.The scalp is as important if not more than the ends.

    I know I'm late to the party but I just discovered this channel and looooove the videos. Just wanted to leave a review of my experience with the sock bun. I've got medium/thick hair with medium/high density and my hair type is 2a/b. My wave pattern gets ruined at night so I've been on the hunt for an overnight wave/curl styling method to help keep things looking nice in between washes. Had high hopes for the sock bun, but unfortunately you need to have fine/thin hair for this method to work. I gave it two tries two nights in a row and the first time, I guess my hair wasn't wet enough. Turned into a frizzy tangly mess. The second time I used more water aaaaannnddd it turned into a damp frizzy tangly mess. I did use one of Loepsie's bun tutorials though to salvage my hair those two days and it ended up looking great! So for me and for others with a hair type like mine, skip the sock bun for overnight curls. Love this channel though! Great content and so many fun things to try out.

    I do something like the bathrobe tie but you braid bandanas in your hair and then tie the ends and so far they are the only thing I found curls my hair nicely. You can use less bandanas for less of a curl or use more for more of a curl. I hope it may help anyone. And then you just undo them and brush them out in the morning. I use oil to smooth them a bit but it's a style that doesn't make my frizzy hair worse.

    The version I've tried (and gotten mixed results) is a basically using a "rag" as a roller. It creates very tight curls when used in small sections. It's almost a mix of rag and pin curls since it goes all the way to the scalp, but the rag ties around the roll to hold instead of a pin. It doesn't look comfortable, but it isn't bad to sleep in.

    I usually twist my damp hair around an elastic headband. It's comfortable to sleep on but it doesnt usually give me defined curls. I'm gonna try the bathrobe trick!

    The bathrobe tie look is so cute but I personally do it with a silk neck scarf as it's gentler with my hair.

    Thank you so much, Lucy! I'll definately use all of them. I have one question though, I have a high porosity hair, do you think humidity would affect those curls?

  • @KaylaNoelle1
    @KaylaNoelle1 3 роки тому

    If you use one of those thick Asian skincare headbands to do the “robe tie” curls it’s a bit easier because you don’t have to tie anything. I do want to try that silk covered foam bendy thing though because I feel like anything silk is more gentle and I already love my silk pillowcases.

    I curled my hair the other day with scrunchies. It is hard to explain how I did it with out a visual but the curls came out nice and was comfortable to sleep in.

    • @marissagiberson3140
      @marissagiberson3140 4 роки тому +1

      Was is kind of like the sock bun method where you wrap the hair around the scrunchie?

    • @carveylover
      @carveylover 4 роки тому +2

      @@marissagiberson3140 not really. I flattened them and rolled them like a regular curler. I then pulled the end of the scrunchie through the other end and made like a bun after.
      I guess not too hard to explain except for that last bit. It was like a mix of cloth and roller curls.

    The only problem with the foam rollers is that they’re getting harder for me to do as my hair is getting longer. Does anyone have any ideas? Do the pillow rollers work better for longer hair?

    • @inez4556
      @inez4556 4 роки тому +1

      I use bendy rollers, they are a bit more uncomfortable since they have no bounce like the sponge ones do. But it is a DRAMATIC difference time wise. A full set with sponge rollers takes me about 30-40 minutes. Bendy rollers, maybe 10-15 minutes. You can fit a lot more hair on the roller so it goes faster, but you might want to set the hair earlier at night to give it more time to dry. My hair is almost waist length.

    I don't know how my hair got to be pretty dry, thinner, and straighter than it was when I was much younger, so I'm hoping to get the curls I had at about the age of 4 back. My hair was straight at the top, and curly at the bottom, just like my dad. Hopefully I'll help my hair and scalp regain its glory!
    Edit: What's another object I can use for the second method? I don't have a bathrobe belt
