cool video, planning on a bike trip to Key West very soon, been studying the best route from Orlando down, I've done the southern tier from Florida to California 3 times and 2 years ago I rode from north central Indiana to Florida, this trip was done during the winter, was not a fun trip and the mountain ranges in Alabama really kicked my ass, my touring bike is a Surly Long Haul trucker, need to study the maps to get through homestead...

Awesome, were planning a Southern Tier ride for October. St. Augustine Florida to San Diego, cant wait.
Getting through Homestead is way easy. Find the M trail coming out of Miami, it basically hugs Rte 1. The M trail turns directly into The South Dade Trail, So its all bike path down to were the path merges into Rte 1. From there its maybe 20 miles of road riding through The Everglades to Key Largo were immediately more bike path begins. Very easy to navigate. Have fun on your trip to the keys.

@@TravelingThru222 Thank you so much, take your time and study the route, so many roads through Alabama and MIss. have rumble strips on the shoulders, forcing you to ride in the traffic lane, for me the hardest part of the ride was crossing the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, the bridge is long and high and no bike lane, your on ST Rd 190, several videos on UA-cam about it, the other choice is staying on 90 and going through New Orleans, also, when you west of Houston, you can jump on Interstate 10 all the way to New Mexico

Excellent. You guys past right by my neighbor hood.At the beginning of the video in Miami, that's 57ave Sw 9st.Ive been thinking of riding from Miami to Keywest.I wasn't sure how to ride from 57ave Sw 9th St to Homestead or Florida City. Then I wasn't sure if there was a bike path from Florida City to Key Largo. This video helps.
How many hours did it take you to get to Key Largo?
How many days to get to Keywest?
Any flat tires? What do you recommend to bring?I have a rode bicycle with 700 25 tires. Are these tires ok?Any tips will be appreciated.Thank you for the great video!!

Hey, glad you liked the videos. From Florida City im pretty sure it was only 30 miles or so. That stretch of road is flat and straight, it only took a couple of hours on the bikes. The shoulder was big and seemed like a pretty safe road to ride. Also saw some other bicyclists headed both directions. This route is well biked. I think the whole trip down was 3 days, being the 3rd day we arrived in Key West early afternoon.
In Key Largo starts the The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, this trail runs parallel to the highway all the way down to Key West. The trail switches back and forth from one side of the road to another. So sometimes following exactly the trail wasn't the fastest route. The road is flat and awesome down there. We experienced no flat tires along the trip, but we always come prepared with tubes, patch kit, and air pump. I only tour on Schwalbe Marathons, they are just great tires. I have ridden 3500-4000 miles with one set before experiencing a flat tire. 700 x 25 should be fine for the ride. Its a little tricky to stealth camp in the Keys but plenty of hotels, and campgrounds. If you have anymore questions let me know. Subscribe for more bicycle adventures. I should be in Florida again in a couple months. See you on the road.
