I have sold 30,000 books online, via amazon and ebay mainly. And I had 30,000 books at my house at any given time. I was obsessed! I LOVE books, always have! My childhood escape from a very disfunctional and violent family, books were my best friends. Thru watching this show, I learned about myself, and then when my Mom collapsed from a heart attack, I had to go and empty out the house to make it ready for sale. I learned a lot about me thru doing this and this show (she was a hoarder) but kept it to two rooms of the house, very, very packed. Dad was a neat freak, a barracks inspector, so she wasnt allowed to hoard the whole house. He wouldnt have it!. I came home and started getting rid of my books, taking them to thrift stores. . as by that time the kindle had come along and I couldnt sell like I used to. I know about "timber"! I have had many leg injuries due to book piles collapsing on me. Now I am down to about 300 books, still selling a few. I made a rule, that I will get rid of at least one item per day. My house is clear now, no more piles everwhere!

Who decided it was a good idea to have a lit candle in a room literally full of paper? If they don’t keep it organized, they’ll have more piles of collapsing books around candles and that’s terrifying to me. 😳
I could see me doing this. If I had physical copies of all my ebooks added to the physical books I have, I'd have at least 10,000 books. I see a lot of myself in this couple.
That's the wonderful thing about digital libraries though! You're able to go crazy with as many books as you want and nobody can label you as crazy 🤣🤣 reading books is good for the soul.
There are more books in that house than there are in my local library. They should open a library or donate them to one. Keep the best. Get rid of the rest.
One: What good is having such a high IQ if you can't reason objectively? Two: Although I applaud that they read so much, why keep so many books? They will not read them all again and, when they die, they will not be able to take the books with them. Three: "Books are not dangerous, books do not bite" But they are an excellent place to accumulate dust, humidity and, God willing a mouse does not enter that house... Also, a small spark and that house will burn to the ground... With them inside. Speaking of fire... With so many books, why did the organizers put lit candles? 🤦🏻♀️ 9:33

Most libraries wouldn't accept the donations of large book collection. They have their own stockpile that they need to move on as there is only so much room for them for their own collections. Hence the reason libraries will have boxes of books for sale for a quarter or they have a free book area to pick through.

Put bluntly; libraries don’t want garbage. I see a lot of old textbooks and reference books in this house, as well as a lot of books in poor condition. Libraries add very few donations to their collection, but these are books that won’t even be salable for fundraising. Seriously, I worked at a library for years and people would get so salty over our refusal to accept donations of boxes that reek of basement and cat hair…
Man, if I were them, I would go through all of the books they have and take an inventory. Keep the ones that are rare (like a first edition rare book) and then donate/sell the rest and then replace those books with e books on a kindle. They'd need about 25 of 32GB Kindles, but it would save all of the space and they would be giving up literally nothing.

They are in their 60’s and have the standard of living of an undocumented and illiterate immigrant… driving an old car, wearing rags, living in a dilapidated old house (of which only a few square-feet are useable…)… They are pathetic at best. No one needs their books (that they didn’t read anyway)…
They let it get completely out of hand! I like books but even when our parents died I limited the number I took due to lack of space. I only have them in my office and 2 bed rooms upstairs. It is better to have fewr things you can see and reach than double the number and not be able to reach.
I wonder if all those books they got rid of were donated? If they were donated i hope it is nowhere near where they are living at cause they could easily go re buy the very books they donated and fill that house back up in no time. But 26 rooms? Those rooms must me half size or so small that they could be called half rooms. I hope that they continued getting rid of more books in that house like in the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom(you could not tell where all they cleared the books, looks like they cleared out a living room area and a small hallway possibly leading to either their bedroom/kitchen) and not buy any more books cause i have seen where some hoarders after getting areas of their home cleared out it would not be long after that the hoarder would go buy more stuff and fill up the house again. It would be easier if they have a kindle service cause they could read whatever they want on it for a small fee and also not feel tempted to buy books again. I can see the love they have for each other and see how they fell in love with each other over the years not just from the books either. As a book lover i do read most books online and whatever books i have at home i do keep cause they belonged to some of my family members who have passed away and their handwriting is in them and i can't part with them(books), there is not many only 10 small books, my late grandmother had so many books that i have donated after my family went through and picked out what they wanted for mementos and what was left with me i gave away, some books i had to throw out due to water damage(there was mold caked on it due to a leak in my home 2 yrs ago) cause i was not donating that kind of stuff and i had no choice but to tell some of my family what i did(i took pictures just in case) some were mad at me cause i did it but you could not read anything in them and sealing the books in big bags is a health issue and i had to make a quick decision on them, after a while some family members cut off all contact with me due to this(among other things-not disclosing it) when i did nothing wrong besides throwing badly damaged books out that was a health issue that i did not want anyone getting sick over. I can relate to this couple over their love over books but they made wise choices for their health by getting rid of many books(looks like it could still be possibly a million in there not 200,000-500,000 just by looking at it).
@@myowncelestial5017 Especially when they are in their 60’s and have the standard of living of an undocumented and illiterate immigrant… driving an old car, wearing rags, living in a dilapidated old house (of which only a few square-feet are useable…)… They are pathetic at best.
With all those books, they could've opened their own public library & let people rent the books. More people need to refine their literacy, or else we're all doomed to being enslaved intellectually
A few books I will keep forever. 1 I had autographed. 1 series I stared reading in 2000 I just add to. Everything else gets donated or traded for credit. I still have a lot, but all in 1 bookcase. My husband has 1 smaller bookcase. Keepers from my past are in a bin in storage sharing space with a few childhood toys.
Vance is clearly on the spectrum and can't seem to communicate how he really feels. This is then taken as being rude and disinterested. I feel sorry for him.
Im trynna remember all the series i read in school but i can't remember em all. All the halo books from before 2010, the eye of minds, the fifth wave, maximum ride, and definitely others that i cant remember the names for
Ironically, this video was preceded by an advert for Ziffit. I regularly use it, and it's been a godsend. It's so easy, just read it, scan it, box it, sell it. No book hoards for me anymore! 📦
Damm, this woman and her husband might have enough books to fill a library, but seeing all those books stacked very high and taking up almost every available space, it is a terrible disaster waiting to happen. Should a fire break out in that house it will be a horrible nightmare from which they might not escape alive. They call themselves book lovers but in reality they are book hoarding freaks. 😱
2:54 Dorothy could have arranged to build a library as an organizer but I'll keep watching to see what happens 5:32 and a bookstore seems like a better idea where the old man could pass on his INCREDIBLE knowledge and his love for books 📚 could have been a neighborhood legacy to his dedication. 10:06 okay outcome
There's a book shop in a college town near me that I'm pretty sure is an older gentleman's hobby to share his knowledge (with some buying and selling of first additions for the rent)
As a collector of physical media (DVDs & hardcover comic books) I’m impressed more then anything, up to 500 thousand books? My gawd that is insane. Imagine how many books this couple has read between them. I can’t help but applaud them.
The 'organiser' does NOT understand the mind of a hoarder. She is rude and unempathetic. Belongings become family members. He knows it has to be done, and once someone understands him and how he feels, he turns the corner, and he can let go of them.

Academics are some of the most “safety last” people you’ll ever meet.
Thank god for Kindles 🤣😅
They are well read and if all those book fell down they would be, well covered in red .
Reading books is my life i love to read
Why would anyone light candles in that place is my question?
I like books too.......have they ever heard of a library where you can loan them?
Get a fogging kindle, ¿no?
I can relate to this. But with me, it's with physical media (mostly VHS). A lot of what I have is in my basement.
Romans 1:18-27 professing themselves to be wise they become fools 🤓👍
I'm always suspicious when a person boasts about having a high IQ.
6:29 was not expecting to see my favorite book
One dollar each is half a million dollars
Chose who are friends and who are acquaintances
A few books I will keep forever. 1 I had autographed. 1 series I stared reading in 2000 I just add to. Everything else gets donated or traded for credit. I still have a lot, but all in 1 bookcase. My husband has 1 smaller bookcase. Keepers from my past are in a bin in storage sharing space with a few childhood toys.
Why couldn't those books be donated to a used books store? Throwing the books in the garbage was a colossal waste of money.
Books Are the Most Heavy stuff…😅😅😅
I don’t get it we know them all those books but what people don’t know is that they are dyslectics bless them ❤
If Dorothy keeps up that aggressive attitude Vance is going to suffer a cardiac incident through the stress she's causing him!
kinling. i hope they have a fire extinguisher in all 20 rooms just in case
It's not the worst house they ever been in .sometimes the organizers are so petty,I feel unappreciated, boo hoo!
Someone show them audible 😂
Vance is clearly on the spectrum and can't seem to communicate how he really feels. This is then taken as being rude and disinterested. I feel sorry for him.
Im trynna remember all the series i read in school but i can't remember em all. All the halo books from before 2010, the eye of minds, the fifth wave, maximum ride, and definitely others that i cant remember the names for
Christ!! They could open a library or book store. Have they considered buying a kindle/ e-reader? Saves a lot of space.
Sad to see the books get thrown. Cant it be donated or something?
This is one hoarder clean up I wouldn't mind helping with. I could take whatever they didn't want.
SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE VANCE !!
The only hoarder episode that hurt my heart!!!😪😪
Dorothy is my favourite!!
That would’ve been a good idea getting a library/building
Seems like a lack of physical activity has given him health issues being a homebody.
Well that describes most of us, unfortunately.
@@ahill4642 Are you a bot responding to me ? There are a large number of people that keep in good shape.

I wonder if they bought them all. Must have cost a fortune 😂
Surely lots of used books, inherited some books, library sales. 👀 Oops, I just realized I’m describing my own vast collection.
The 'organiser' does NOT understand the mind of a hoarder. She is rude and unempathetic.
Belongings become family members. He knows it has to be done, and once someone understands him and how he feels, he turns the corner, and he can let go of them.
Belongings are not family. They are things that serve a purpose. Things to use and discard.
I agree with you that she has an unpleasant attitude
books aren’t dangerous if they are kept properly and not just sitting around like that.
but those books can fall on you
