It is not up to the government to "solve" this crisis, but it is up to the government to move all its rules and regulations out of the way and let the free market resolve the issues of supply and demand.

Are native brits breeding more now than we did in the 80s/90s? I don’t think so! Statistically we are choosing to have smaller families and children much later. So how do we not have enough housing in 2024? Answer 1 - mass unregulated immigration. Answer 2 - local housing being brought by non locals and turned into HMOs or air BNBs for greedy landlords.
For Cornwall it's purely the government types, boris Johnson for example own homes here to come down in the summer. I used to live in a village where 80% of the homes were empty year round. When my mum grew up there, the entire place was lived in. Our generation is suffering through the greed of the baby boomers
The white population of this earth peaked in 1930. If you look at the population of major cities they're often lower than they were then even with our foreign friends. London peaked 1939,paris in 1922, Manhattan in 1910, Berlin 1939, my home city is still 50,000 shy of its 350,00 peak. I've never seen anyone go into real detail on this matter. As for the choosing to have less children take a look at the of abortions per year, the culture is the problem not the housing. Personally I think bankruptcy is our only hope.
You are right about our population. In fact the world population (surprisingly) is predicted to slow down (which surely is a good thing.) There are so many 2nd (or even 3rd or 4th homes - yes, really - l have lived and worked in the next county along which has a similar problem with housing - l personally knew of people who truly had more '2nd homes' than you could count on one hand.) I really don't think constantly building is necessary - just use the current housing stock better - this programme highlighted this when talking about the problem not being as out of control before masses of homes got bought up in 2020. Places like St.Ives are now bringing in tougher rules about 2nd homes - the rest of these places need to have the 'courage' (and honesty) to do the same.
It's horrendous in the UK for young folk these days. Looking back to 1991, my partner was pregnant and we got a mortgage on an old house for 22,000 pounds. I was a bus driver on 10,500 pounds a year. The mortgage was 110 pounds a month which was about 15% of my wages. My missus didn't need to work. Nowadays, a bus driver earns 3 times as much as I did in 1991, but house prices are 10-15 times as higher than 1991.... Now that's the problem!
I'm 64 and disabled/unable to work. I'm 'lucky' to live in a tiny council flat - but at least I have one, and have a roof over my head. I had to go to the local Pantry today. I don't drive and it's a struggle to get there. I haven't been for over 3 weeks because of the difficulty getting to and from there. It's very good as its £5 for the bus fare, + £5 for £20 worth of food - it's a Godsend. It takes me 4 to 5 hours for the round trip, due to the horrendous bus service (it'd take 40 minutes round trip in a car). I'm always very ill by the time I get home, and am wiped out for the next few days. 90% of the people who go there, are foreigners - they live within walking distance of the church where it's held. Today, they said we could have one extra 'luxury item' as its their 2nd year of being. Open. I was number 18 in the queue. EVERY foreigner came out, with their items, and large tubs of Quality Street chocolates, or 2 boxes of chocolates. When it got to my turn, I was given a small pack of low calorie 5 pack of cereal bars!!! There were tubs of chocolates available, but I was told 'they weren't for me'!!! Other English people had the same as me - the large boxes and tubs were only available to the foreigners!!!!!! I know this isn't anywhere near as awful as being homeless, but I just wanted to point out the truth of how us indigenous people are treated VERY differently to foreigners. It's despicable and latent.
I feel like I am living in a foreign country, yet I am a 50 year old indigenous English born white man. I live in a converted garage and it costs me £900 per month. Take care, stay safe 🙏
And most of them get all the good benefits aswell probably go out and beg then go use food banks ,they know how to come over here and take us for everything they can
It's just incredible to think that with the right people in charge, this country would be loaded, and not a single person who was capable of working would be out of a job or skint.
Don't forget the £187 million this traitorous government gave them in "overseas aid" (i.e bribes),.or the fact the government doesn't recognise them as a terrorist organisation.
how dare you say its a failing on the uk the people were never asked about mass migration hundreds of thousands of families coming here is unsustainable as we have all been screaming at you for years now we reap what they sowed allowing this flood of people
You voted for a criminal organisation called Tories for 14 years. You voted for Brexit, which has massively impoverished the country. And now You say that it is migrants' fault? You would better to address your intellectual incapability.
Looking at these comments I can see that the British people know exactly what the problem is even though it wasn’t mentioned in the video, illegal immigration and government policy’s that favour this.
Basically the woman who left abusive relationship is homeless whilst her criminal ex is in prison with a roof over his head and 3 square meals a day. Wheres the justice in that? Sums this country up...
I’m guessing drugs and alcohol are involved in her situation. There was no need to leave the home she was in as he’s in prison, they probably wasn’t paying the rent and they got evicted.
Homelessness is a massive problem everywhere. I left the wife last year due to domestic abuse & lived in a Mini for 3 months. I work & earn the most I've ever earned although it's only a bit above minimum wage. I could rent a 1 bed flat where I live for 3 weeks wages. The 4th weeks wage would hopefully cover the extortionate bills & fraudulent claims such as council tax but that's not a given. So, I work 50-60 hours a week to live in a box & rely on a food bank to eat with nothing left for any kind of pleasure whatsoever. Can someone, anyone, make that make sense to me??? What that is, is modern day slavery whith chains you can't see. While I lived in the mini I saved & bought a van which I now live in full time. I still work & it works for me. I love the way I live now but if anything happens to my van, I'll be street homeless, losing everything, again, for the 5th time! I don't do poor me, I just work hard to make my life how I want it to be & try to help others. If you see a homeless person speak to them. Acknowledge they are there ffs. The worst part of street homeless for me, is being invisible to the flag waving virtue signallers. You'll take in a Ukranian from a fake war but can't bare to even look at the homeless guy, sat freezing outside Tesco!
No wonder there is such anger at how badly our own people are being treated as opposed to how well invaders are treated by, criminally, entering our country illegally.

I was homeless for two years. People don't realise how many just ended up there through bad times. I've seen many people that are pretty normal people become homeless that are now substance abusers or alcoholics. You try living like that without anything to numb it. Especially through winter. I have my own place again now and I'm moving forward but yeah, I did drugs and drank when I was homeless. It made it so much easier to deal with it. That's the reality of it. At first it's easier to deal with, then it starts to get at you. Then you start breaking down slowly and the harder it gets the more it gets at you making it harder still again. And then you get hit by winter which hits your body. You get through it. Move on. Get on with things. Then another winter starts approaching....
The lack of compassion for those who fall on tough times is depressing and rather bizarre. The current ethos will accept all kinds of criminal or unsavoury behaviour, yet the judgement levied at our most unfortunate is harsh and unforgiving. I may be cynical but I can only assume that support for vulnerable, disenfranchised individuals does not generate enough social media clout. "There, but for the grace of God, go I" Keep on keeping on
I have been on the streets. What do people expect you to do to get through it. Not drugs for me but wine to get to sleep through the cold and rain. The term broken doesn't come near. I am still broken and no longer trust others. The abuse is unreal, the people trying to be kind was soul destroying they would give food not money. That food was unhealthy and not something my body needed. I obviously accepted gratefully but coins would have meant i could wash my clothes, get a nice meal not eaten off the floor and felt human again. At least for a couple of hours
Yes, I have seen people say they don't want to give money because it's a concern that they will spend on drugs or alcohol. But I think it's an insult for the homeless person to have the ability to make their own decisions in a way. I can see both sides.@@JennyMartinPhoto

We have a housing crisis all over Australia now too. It’s a disgrace! Byron bay would be our equivalent of Cornwall ; plenty of luxury Air bnbs & high end motels. The rents have soared and locals now living in tents behind the beaches and councils come to rip them down every week. Terrible just terrible! Feel for the locals in Cornwall and right across England.
Big money from London purchasing lots of houses to rent out in holiday season shouldn't be allowed. I wonder how much is being claimed as expenses for these second homes that are being leased out in holiday season. What chance have locals got??? Affordable housing should be a priority for all councils. UK Boarders should be closed until we have our own house in order. Vetted migrants welcome only after we've sorted our own problems !!!!!
It’s wrong on many levels - our government don’t care about our English people on the streets - yet they spend billions each year housing and looking after complete ‘illegal’ immigrants
that woman who said that its not migration that is causing this. it is playing a big factor. there are cities and towns of mass migrated somalians and asians now.
I'm not in the UK but in the US. I am 67 years old and disabled. I have what in the UK would be called a pension and my deceased husband's military retirement. I live in an overpriced apartment (flat) for $1450./month. There are no windows to the outside so I never know if it's daylight or dark. My monthly Social Security cheque is $1500. I too am looking into finding an affordable bus or van to renovate into living quarters for one. I don't know how I'll do the renovations by myself at my age and disability but I know I cannot afford to pay to have it done even though I do know how to do it myself. I too live in a beach tourist area where the shop help and food service workers are paid minimum wage. I guess they have partners or family to live with. This was a basically affordable area where you could buy a small home that needed some work for $150K but that has more than doubled in six years. I despair for what the next generation will have to deal with but I am more concerned with getting through the remainder of my life with a roof over my head.

Good luck to you. Get out, as best you can manage, and let the light hit your face, and find somewhere safe you can be around others. Don’t give up the roof over your head. In Britain, this is a different problem. We have the council houses for everyone homeless, but they are full of immigrants.
Supply and demand pushes prices up, it's a capitalists dream, profiteering from the dismal situation created by those in power policies. They should build millions of more houses but then they wouldn't be able to charge extortionate rents etc
I worked with the homeless for 4 years and was homeless myself for 10+ years. Nothing has changed in decades, in fact its got a hell of a lot worse. I couldn't carry on in that sector because of the injustice i saw everyday, particularly immigrants being put up in hotels when our own people are literally left to rot on the streets 😔. Trust me when i say that this is only going to get worse, much worse.
The charity woman who says 'we havent got many migrants here' - no you haven't because they are all in the 4 star hotels before being given a house above those who have being waiting years for one love thats why!
All the houses have been sold of to rich people so they can have a second home. LOL you can blame immigrants all you like, But this is Britain. If you dont want a sh1t life, be rich :P
Currently in America. The 1% are paying less in taxes, and the insane cost of everything from rent, food and clothing due to their needing "record breaking profits" for the top brass and shareholders, whilst we pay the price. There is going to be a revolt, eventually, and the filthy rich will hide in their "panic room" and again, we will pay.
I'm 53, divorced and been homeless nearly 2 years. I work full time and have long term health conditions. Homechoice is pointless, private renting is unaffordable after I've paid my child maintenance and my ex wife went bankrupt after we separated and ruin my credit rating. I don't have any debt, don't use any non prescription drugs and don't drink. Sleeping in a car exacerbates my health problems, trying to stay clean and tidy for work appearances is difficult. My diet is terrible and I have lost so much weight I'm now classed as malnourished. I only see my children for short periods because they can't stay over with me. I'm not living, I'm existing. If you are homeless and work there is no help and I don't want to claim benefits and stop working. The system that is supposedly there to help, just creates misery and despair. What's the point of it all.
I live in filey in North Yorkshire , its a very small seaside village but every year we are inundated with holiday makers, we have huge static caravan parks all around us but so many houses now belong to second home owners so they have taken all the house that locals would be able to rent. They rent them out during the summer and they stand empty the rest of the year it's disgraceful we have businesses we own and kids in school etc but can't find a property to rent. The council need to stop people being allowed to buy second homes here , if they want a holiday home buy a bloody static home on the parks which are designed for that and leave our homes alone.
They can't stop anyone from buying because they need the proceeds , taxes and so on to pay for other services. They need to build more affordable homes to solve the issue but they don't , that's the main issue .
Yes property market and laws are the problem in England. Unfortunately free market capitalist thinking is to blame historically. Change the system to inclusive socialist values?
I'm denying it! There's a connection between rich people getting richer and richer and investing ruthlessly into houses which they then rent out to other rich people who come from outside the UK having no clue what the prices really are - so they pay 2000£ monthly rent for some stylish den. That way the price for rent becomes unaffordable. It's not the ones who are still more miserable than you who are the problem. It's the reckless, irresponsible, capitalist, egocentric "investors"! And the short-sighted city administrations who allow them to act that way! Stop selling out property to foreigners! Stop transferring homes into airB&B!
A lot of MPs have shares with Serco who look after the immigrants. MPs get richer by the day, not forgetting most MPs are landlords, so if they house the migrants they can get more expenses. It's corruption to the core.
Mental health is the main problem a lot of these people on the streets need support not just a roof over there head , many are incapable of the responsibility of running a house etc
@@Freiya2011 so how come the rent isn't 'too expensive' for asylum seekers? The government have spent £150,000 on five and seven year leases for properties on the private rental market as well as having almost 5000 hotel beds in reserve but both are exclusively available to asylum seekers. It's ridiculous to believe there's not a major link between the two
It's a lack pf housing for local population, airbnb and hotels are more profitable than making homes for private or social renting. Cornwall has 96.8% white. So it's clearly not immigrants is it? It's local policy and the pull factors of being a seaside town.

Wait a minute. Outside of UK so may not understand. But do we not have a Duke and Duchess of Cornwall? And isn’t their £1.2B income from rents in Cornwall? Do they not own most of Cornwall as a private estate? What about the hardships in this documentary and the riches of this Royal family? Are you all liking this?
If the so called Great King Charles is supporting this madness (which he obviously is seeing as he reigns over this country) He has a vast amount of massive properties, Buckingham Palace being one and he cannot possibly need so many rooms. Therefore, why doesn't he section it off and put all the boat people in there, after all, he is not doing anything about them invading his country is he? Why have we even got Royals now, they are not fit for purpose.
Same thing happening in Inverness. I used to live in Inverness 5 years ago before moving to Glasgow outskirts area. I was looking forward to move back to Inverness because I love Highlands, but having seen how the rents skyrocketed there I'm pretty much stuck where I am now. So many B&B, airnb, holiday rentals, second homes... whatever is there left to rent has London rents.
If you're living on the street I imagine the need to get off your head and out of the vicious reality - through alcohol or other drugs - is a necessary coping mechanism.
I agree and she no doubt has to use her own money to get food. When I was homeless there was more help for women even if it was a refuge than men. It seems to be equal now. I was told by numerous charities and the council to sofa surf with friends or find family. You soon know who your friends are when you have nothing, if you have a dysfunctional family it can be even more trouble! Especially if they want money that you don't have.
Disgusting how could you let this family with disable kids leave like this. The govt should help first this family who needed help before thinking about immigrants priorities should be for people in this country.
If this government wasn't wasting our money on hotel bills for boat people there would be money to help people like this shame on this government for putting the boat people first.
If conservatives get in power again the unelected prime minister pledges to strip all benefits from millions of people if they don't find work within 12 months, with the help of the work coach, so that's the sick, disabled etc without support, will make homeless people in the millions if the tyrant has his way, he even said he's stripping the doctors abilities to write sick notes 😡

Problem is most of the people banging on about the housing crisis are the same ones calling you a waycist just for having an opinion on immigration. Think long and hard about having kids in this country if you are lower level as your guarantee about being looked after by state is slowly eroding and as we see you will be below some immigrant just arrived in the pecking order of handouts.
Prioritising illegal migrants over natural British citizens shows the contempt westminster has for the citizens that PAY their wages . This country has gone to the dogs

I'm a Cornishman and a resident of Newquay. I know some of the people in this report and it rings true what they say. The Cornish economy has been moving increasingly towards a seasonal, gig economy .... although this isn't a new thing. However things have most certainly been exacerbated by the trifecta of Tory austerity, Brexit and to a lesser degree covid ... say what you want but we see it everyday.
As GDP increases the majority get poorer which us why it's a useless measurement of our economic success particularly as it's been artifically boosted by population increase via mass immmigration. When you hear the words 'we need to grow the economy' it simply means we need more immigration to boost GDP but without the necessary investment in infrastructure and housing.
As ex military, I can confirm we were inoculated every time we went on a deployment, the reason was boosters 3 or 4, this is the reason so many ex military have health issues, physical and mental, we were injected with crap and fobbed off

I am not British, i might not understand in full how things work even if i have lived here for 10 years. But how can they leave people that fought for the country, for everyone and the generations that come, in such a misery? It's disgraceful to think that they are sent to death in the war, and if they make it, they are sent to death on the same land that they defended with life. What did they do wrong to deserve such a fate?
Supply and demand issues, with wage increases causes inflation to rise, all roads lead to too many people wanting things which we can't supply, so the pressure is alleviated by inflation rises to sort the situation out. Millions of less people would fix the problem, but millions arrive annually making the situation much worse anyone with half a brain should be able to see that.
The vastly overpopulated United Kingdom is in such a serious state of decline and decay in so many different areas and this mass invasion of immigrants is contributing detrimentally, negatively and massively to the myriad of problems we as a nation are now confronted with.
It's scary they are building homes first not the infrastructure. Near where I live they have built on the flood plains and the houses are always in repair due to the awful materials used.
Same in Worthing.. Locals elderly and Veterans sleeping in the bushes while huge numbers of Kurds Afghans and Syrians are beautifully accommodated .. When our Council said publicly that not one of these foreign Nationals had been given a Council House, they were being devious and dishonest.. So its true none were given council housing stock, but all were accommodated in the private sector, which of course we pay for .. Worse still, greedy landlords, realising these immigrants will be accommodated regardless, shove their tenants out under false pretences and immediately fill their properties with the immigrants, with the murky agencies facilitating this, able to pay up to six time the usual rent.. We have failed our people whilst bending over backwards to meet the needs of illegals and foreign Nationals .. Absolutely disgusting
Legislation - No second homes. Legislation - No more AirBnB. Legislation - Developers can only build social housing or houses of affordability linked to the living wage Legislation - Reposession of long-term empty properties for families in need. Legislation - No new builds to be sold to private landlords or build-to-rent, or companies looking to buy as assets. If councils want help - take advice from the Mayor of Barcelona, who is sick to death of what is happening in his city.
I live in a similar tourist town in Australia and we also have a LOT of homeless and van dwellers. My theory is ban that awful awful air BnB. it has stripped so many residences out of the rental market into the holiday lets. SO many stand empty in between the seasons. Makes my blood boil. The flip side is there are other places not in this popular destination with lots of accomodation, but a lot of the young folk affected by this want to live here even though they realistically cant afford it.
And let's ban the ability of rich, absent overseas investors like the Chinese, buying up expensive properties and leaving these houses empty and untenanted, whilst pushing up house prices beyond the reach of the average Australian.
Really? In the sixth richest country in the world, that sends money all around the world? This has to end, start with a punitive tax on house sales for other than primary residence, give it to the local council to build affordable homes for locals

3. Spending billions on illegal immigrants.
@@just_em_jayWasting billions on Brexit making the rich richer offshore.
The man with the Bus has done an amazing job. Inspirational. I wish them all the best.

Homelessness is a massive problem everywhere. I left the wife last year due to domestic abuse & lived in a Mini for 3 months.

Exactly the same as Windermere
They can't stop anyone from buying because they need the proceeds , taxes and so on to pay for other services. They need to build more affordable homes to solve the issue but they don't , that's the main issue .

How anyone can deny the link between our own citizens being homeless and immigration

Exactly 💯 how many people come home from work and open a bottle or have a 🚬 At the moment most of the country is self medicating 😢 But we expect Our homeless to live in a box and just deal with it😢 I think the Majority ofus would need something to get through a night sleeping rough 😘❤️🙏
Where they are taking money from for drinking and drugs?
That's not an excuse...
@@kambe9713lot of petty crime and prostitution. Shop lifting etc. If someone has a class A habit and is habitually offending to feed that over maintaing occupancy even in say a temporary housing unit which may not be ideal but surely would beat being outside, you can be fairly sure they will be getting decent money but if they are at that stage of sustaining £100s a day on drugs alone things are clearly going to be tricky.
More like drinking and drugs put them in that position
The girl in the blue tracksuit in the hotel that turned down one of the pods isn’t thinking straight! I would have jumped on one of those offers….Now they closed the door on her!! Good luck Cornwall. Same situation here in Canada🙏🏼🍀👋🏼🇨🇦
🤔 I've heard Canadians are very rich, are they also having housing problem?
We're giving Aid all around the world but we can't look after our own...
❤
There is no money to be made, when they send money over it gets washed and used for bribery/corruption and never-ending wars.
Nothing more disturbing than poverty or having no compassion
People who use drugs deserve no compassion or special treatment. Prisons are there for a reason.
Simple ,stop the boats ,stop all foreign aid ,and spend it on our own ,can't tax working people any more, not worth working now
so the south west is more worried about net zero and 20mph speed limits.
These people dont serve the people.
Dark side? You say it like it's news, the British have always been put last.
As a brit in florida same thing. Rents are so high people on streets with dogs and kids
People on the street, if the law to criminalize gets passed should be able to sue the council for not providing basic human necessities.
This is what our leaders have done bloody great ain’t it what a pit we have become
Same happening in Canada, America, Australia, Ireland, all places where liberals and globalists rule free for all give away to millions of newcomers 😢
It's not the publics job to sort this, it's the fault of successive governments ignoring and failing to address the issue!
Somehow we manage to house half the worlds dispossessed in 4 star luxury.
Statistics also show British are having children much later in life birth rate in England 1.47 per child.
The public go to work to pay taxes or the government steal out taxes you think they would at least put it to the right places but they don't sadly!
Yet GDP is not increasing.
As ex military, I can confirm we were inoculated every time we went on a deployment, the reason was boosters 3 or 4, this is the reason so many ex military have health issues, physical and mental, we were injected with crap and fobbed off
Live in sussex all coastal towns been left to rot.
My partner lives in Brighton, and when I go down to visit, all you see is homeless ppl in tents living along sea front and in town, it's terrible then I come bk up to West Yorkshire and the same problem up here, help our own first before helping ppl from other countries.. 🤬🤬🤬
That poor girl Hanna , this is dispicable 😢
The council have someone with CP living in a bus........WTF?!?!

She didn't have too, I wanted to build a disability house using our own money and was turned down. The only form of housing they offered her was for me to put her in the Foster system until i had found suitable accommodation for her. Have that on an email from adult social care cornwall

Stop Rich people buy loads of houses
Stop Government's buy loads of houses
I’m so ANGRY!
Accommodation costs have spiralled out of control while wages have largely stagnated.
This is so sad ,if our government stops giving our money to outsiders they could sort this out 😢
The vastly overpopulated United Kingdom is in such a serious state of decline and decay in so many different areas and this mass invasion of immigrants is contributing detrimentally, negatively and massively to the myriad of problems we as a nation are now confronted with.
The way the government solve these issues is by putting bars across benches and signs saying “no sleeping” then its job done really
Legislation - No second homes.
Legislation - No more AirBnB.
Legislation - Developers can only build social housing or houses of affordability linked to the living wage
Legislation - Reposession of long-term empty properties for families in need.
This has to end, start with a punitive tax on house sales for other than primary residence, give it to the local council to build affordable homes for locals
i live in a (formally nice) little uk village, i have found people living in cars and checked on them here before, if i told people they would be shocked but its just in local doctors car park, i see more campers/ mobile homes too, sometimes in a country lane..
Being pushed out like the cuckoo situation, marginalised by over influx into the country, this creates a massive housing crisis, unfortunately its only getting worse until the pressure eases, all the politicians fault entirely
I went to Leeds recently, have to say what an eye-opener. Many homless people scattered around the city centre. Some sleeping in bus shelters too. A far cry from the city I saw a few years ago.

True👍
They can go to New York and get 5 star hotel with 1000$ debit card per month
And US homeless people can move to England and avail the subsidies for illegals..
Win win!
Homeless people in USA can’t afford bus fare let alone airfare to sunny England
The government treat the underprivileged people or street sleepers pretty unhuman. They should tackle the root cause, not arrest the homeless people
