In this era , victory was decided in the first 15 overs (if u r chasing) and last 5 overs if batting first. During chasing most important was a good start and with field restrictions u can take risks. you save wickets till 30th over and can double your score. Last 5 overs, u can throw ur bat around and score the last 40-50 runs in 30 balls and that will demoralise the opponents and victory assured. Most teams also preferred to bat first, chasing was simply too much pressure.

Srinath was the only genuine fast bowler we had those days 😂😂😂..the rest were medium pacers in the name of fast bowlers..
Venkatesh Prasad was a very talented bowler though he was not fast. Prasad picked up loads of wickets in SA and Eng where conditions suited him better.
Later also we had very less fast bowlers,after Srinath it was only zaheer khan, Ashish nehra was good in quick bowling but his consistency was not upto the Mark.
I was expecting one bouncer from prabhakar and it never happened 😃

I started following cricket a year after this match - from the 1996 World Cup onwards. In hindsight, it is amazing to see the transformation of this Sri Lankan team within a year. Individually, it was the almost the same team as in the World Cup, but the team in this match had players who seemed to have no self-belief or confidence. They were "nice guys" - happy to be last. The tour of Australia later that year, Ranatunga's captaincy and Dave Whatmore's coaching changed all that. Sri Lanka toughened up, became the world-beaters that would terrorize the best teams for the rest of the decade.
It is sad to see the state of the present team (2016-19) though.

Along with inzamam it is arjuna who might have been run out so many times and in spite of that arjuna dared to take on of all the people Azhar, wow that is suicidal. Moral of the story never dare take on some one line azhar those days and later on kaif and yuvraj and then raina and these days jadeja. I was there in sharjah watching this game and the pass was given to me by sanath jayasurya's maternal aunt who was the sales manager in Emirates airlines and she was my client.

Azharuddin was my favorite batsman then.Used to copy his batting style.He had more talent ,skill and time than any indian batsman i hve seen till date.And add to that he was the most aggressive batsman of 90's.Once his score was past 15 rest assured he would be hitting boundaries every few overs.He held fhe fastest centure record for a long while.It was only he who could have destroyed his own career.Nevertheless,he is the most beautiful batsman i have watched ply cricket.
