Those were the days. No stump cameras , no super slomo cameras , no computer graphics and no decision review system. Integrity was associated with Cricket and people used to say “ it’s not just cricket “( referring to something that’s unfair ). And Umpires decision is final. Here in this match -35 years later -we can easily conclude that both Imran Khan and Javed Miandad are out - but clearly it was Umpire’s ineptitude.( as Australian umpire can not be termed biased towards one subcontinental team ). Javed is always known for his gamesmanship-(opposite of sportsmanship) and creating needle and getting under the skin of opposition. However, Imran -tall -astute-Oxford educated and considered himself as a fair and honest Muslim (Pathan), it’s surprising to see that he had so blatantly cheated !
So big grounds 3runs were common,, today 4s & sixes are common due to very small ground 🤪😧😧

Srikanth scored 67 in 78 balls and ravi shashtri 50 in 135 balls.
Srikanth played excellent odi innings and ravi played excellent test innings.

Vengsarkar is obviously enjoying the winning moment- and did not really bother to remove the bat from the hand -and merely extended the hand 😅!! Unimaginable scenario! Can’t imagine those things today !!

Srikanth was the top scorer in the 1983 World Cup finals and here in 1985 at the B&H World Championship of Cricket!! Fearless attacking style! Him and Kapil Dev influenced a lot of youngsters those days.
1982 World Cup win in England was a turning point in India's cricket, but 1985 World Championship win in Australia was the turning point in sponsorship money pouring into India's cricket. Post-1985, all of India's international cricketers became professional, and did not have to do a day job in SBI, Railways, Police etc.

I've learned an important point in India's cricket history. I always thought sponsorship, brand ambassadorship and athlete management came in to India with Sachin Tendulkar and Mark Mascarenhas. But it was these modest heroes who turned the tap on. Today's rich Indian cricketers owe their wealth to these players, who used to get back in the dressing room after the day's play and clean and whiten their pads and shoes. At some venues they were accommodated in the pavilion because the cricket boards could afford hotels only for the managers.

all was going well from 1983 to 1986 till Miandad hit that last ball six off Chetan Sharma in Sharjah, and that psychological blow continued for many many years.
I was only 5 at that time and was cheering for Srikkanth Shastri when they were batting. But my favourite was only Kapil and no one else. Woke up at 4 am those days to watch this match.
If you were in India, in that B&H series, we had to wake up at 5 AM only for the group match with Australia...all others were D/N matches and we could comfortably wake up at 9 am.

The game was very different then. A strike rate of 75 was considered good. A score of 250 was a mountain to climb and the pitches were not batter friendly. Shastri played with all these considerations and won an Audi sports sedan at this tournament. It is also worth remembering that he hit 6 sixes in an over at a first class match.

Gavaskar denied Sivaramakrishnan a hatrick. He may have had talent but was for sure not a team player.
During those days, only one ball was used throughout an innings, i.e no new ball taken after 25 overs. So chasing under lights is too tough when the colour of the ball changes. Also, the pitch is rough, outfield is slow and large ground. No free hit. No pressure for bowlers. So that comparing two cricketers of different era on the basis of numbers is not right.
